Sony PlayStation 3

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

ThomasGOAL will no doubt find some and the world will be Sony again soon enough.............. ;)

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

No news from CES, disappointing move by Sony.

CES 2006: Another notable PS3 absence

It was a shame not to get any fresh PS3 news in Sony's keynote speech, but it seems there has been a further, more interesting, omission: the next-gen console’s slightly dubious control pads, nick-named the Batarang around the Games Digest office, were also AWOL at the Sony booth. This seems to confirm Sony’s plan to reinvent the controllers after so much negative feedback from the viewing public. Given how impressive the Xbox 360’s new wireless pads are, Sony is hopefully coming up with something pretty special.

Theyre feeling the heat now.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Why arent they showing the world anything concrete yet? a bunch of Renders is all we have seen as of yet, This is the exact same thing they did with the PS2, look as these Detailed decent looking renders!! woo hoo! gotta get this console........ then what do we get? Ridge Racer V which looks substandard, Tekken Tag which looks no better than Tekken 3, and its not until Gran Turismo 4 that the true potential is shown.

Same ol story with a different name?

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Well from the link amcp_ffm provided above (http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?art...ikref=alert534) it seems we might not be waiting any longer than next month (or so stated).... ..."apparantly" (read)
"Release Date and Price Point

The release date is still unknown. Where in the past Sony bigwigs claimed a Spring release was in order for Japan, in order to keep a share of your mind rather than leaving it all empty for the 360, now the only comment to be had is "later this year". Last weekend however Sony did announce 4,000 development kits have been shipped, which is a promising step forward. Sony avoided however talking about the PlayStation at last weekend’s big CES electronics and gadgets expo, and only the console along with the controller, now with a large "Conceptual Design" sign next to everyone's favorite boomerang, was shown [Editor: to me, it looks more like a PC Saitek controller from 1998]. Apparently however, Sony does have plans for a special event this month or next, which is likely the place where more details will come forward. Meanwhile others think the Game developers conference on March 20th to 24th will be Sony's stage."

Anyone going with this?? i dont know what to believe anymore, and i really dont want to refer back to history (PS2) but also i dont want to buy a console that dosn't meet my expectations, as the 360 is the only genuine piece out there at the momment TBPH..... what d'u folks think??

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

For those who think all this secrecy is all a bit 'weird' then you dont know Sony too well.

This is how they do things. They keep quite for long periods then bash us with loads of unbelievable info. Expect a giant snowball of info to be released at the Playstation Conference.

Dont forget the timeline pic shown at the E3 conference:

Clearly shows the Playstation conference in Feb as a main event, and more importantly NO MENTION OF CES in that schedule. Anyone expecting news at that show were being optomistic.

I personally feel the machine will make its Spring launch date, not forgetting Spring ends in late June.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Hope so. I wont be importing immediately but I'll wait and see what people's impressions are and obviously the sooner the better.

I cant wait for the PS3 thb. Any new console excites me.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Same a here Classic...how could June be spring in Japan...it's either summer (and Japan is on the northern hemisphere) or winter (if Japan would be on the southern hemisphere, which it isn't)...anyway enough geography...

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Just had a look on Google there, End of June is NO EFFIN WAY Spring in Japan, end of May yes, but June, July and August are there summer months as well, although June can be a very wet month, it is still classed as Summer there.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

So how long do you think it'll take to mod the PS3 and start patching for the new WE/PES games?

Also won't patchers have a difficult time to sort out how to patch WE/PES with the disk being Blu Ray!?

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Read it and weep you non believers, see all it takes is a little application, June is summer. Nuff said. Back on Topic.

lol @ bradley1886 BTW, Nah mate you cant have that on snes for s***... this is cutting edge technology right here, the ps3 wont even run a game like that without the processors and components leaking out the vents TBH :p
On a serious note though, hope we get some treat next month, at least even news from games developers and how they feel the dev kits are and what we're likely to be controlling on our HDTV's in terms of graphics and gameplay *hopes*

cheers mate.

But I still think it will be launched in Spring. With E3 happening at around 10th May, Im sure they'll have enough time to get it out before June. In Japan anyways ;)

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

After the Consumer Electronics Show rather disappointing in puncto PlayStation 3 passed week in read Vegas seem the large silence period around Sonys NEXT generation flagship now before the electronics Entertainment Expo 2006 in Los Angeles to possibly already break open to be able. As the electronics giant admits gave, become the internal DevStation conference in this year completely in the indication of the PlayStation 3.

On first and second March one in London 2006 in the context of several courses of lectures and presentations not only the CELL chip and operating system of the new console to therefore dedicate, but beyond that likewise first material of third manufacturers, concretely genannnt itself Epic , to demonstrate. Besides discussions turn around middleware and performance analyses of the new hardware.

It remains being waiting, to what extent we can count 3 and possibly new pictorial material in the course of the DevStation 2006 on interesting pieces of news regarding the efficiency of the PlayStation. We remain however at the ball.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Note, how PS2 came out:

Feb 1999 - PS2 announced
March 1999 - EE discussed, no games at all
Sep 1999 - PS2 videos, no games playable
Feb 2000 - PS festival - massive blowout with price and playable games
March 2000 - PS2 launched

So we only got playable one month before. That was in february, we also had a similiar video thing in september or near around that time.

So there is still hope, BTW this is for Japan, if they choose to do worldwide release, it might be a few months.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

But lets also remember how much Sony hyped up the PS2 initial line up with those funkily realistic face models. They also showcased those amazing footage of that "The Bouncer" game....but it ended up being quite cack in the end. What about those amazing footage of The Getaway - look how crap that turned out to be.

I wouldn't trust any of this footage until I see someone physically using the joypad and playing the game in front of me.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Getaway wasnt crap graphically. It was revealed before PS2 was released, and released almost 3 years after PS2 was out.

Graphically, it wasn't the marvel that Sony had shown it to be. All this PS3 hype is reminiscent of the hype Sony often don't live up to. We haven't even seen the console being used yet - hence why I'm not believing any of the stuff I see.

The fact is, whether the PS3 is more powerful or not, is irrelevant. Game publishers won't be bothered to make two different versions of a game for the 360 and PS3 - afterall, selling as many copies for as many platforms is what its all about. There are a few killer-app titles available these days, but most of these are non exclusive.

Never a truer word written on here, the XB suffered from PS2 ports for ages, it was only when games came out on it being built for it did it look much better, or games that came on it first because at the time people couldnt get the PS2 to do it, like ToCA Race Driver 2. Think about it, it's numbers of games shifted by a company, nevermind what format its on. It'll then be up to Sony or MS etc to lean on a software houses and say, come on, I know you can do better than that, but that will all be down to the dev kits and support they can give.

I was pulling rubbish out of the attic last week and found a magazine I got with my PS2 back in 2000. It had previews of 100 games planning to be released with screenshots for each. It had GTA3, MGS2, GT3 which all looked amazing (back then) but then there was the The Getaway, which looked real. I was deffinatly going to get that one.

I later learned that they used 3D car models and actual photographs of London in those screenshots. But only after they milked the publicity of the amazing graphics in their game. I didn't buy The Getaway on principle - and bcos I heard it wasn't that good.

I remember a game called Dropship was really hyped up back then. Hype that wasn't continued by fans.

Lesson learned: Ignore game previews and Sony are masters at marketing.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Yep take it all with a pinch of salt and only believe it when you see it running on PS3 Hardware with someone actually playing it :)

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Furthermore, the team is even considering including a feature by which a friend could join the battle at any time. He logs on to his PS3 or Xbox 360, sees on his friends list what you're playing, and he might just hop into the fight. As you're being hammered by enemies too tough to face alone, imagine your best bud parachuting through a hole in the barn roof above you, guns blazing as he drops in to save the day.

Now that sounds cool!

Anyway, after reading through the entire article, the graphics, great as they might be, didn't get me as excited as the new gameplay elements that may finally make a WW2 fps feel fresh and new...
