Re: Rock Band 2

Don't cheats block trophies?

Cheats usually block things like trophies or achievements - although Dead Space has cheats and you can still unlock the trophies for that game with them on.

Re: Rock Band 2

Just had a great hour on RB2 :))

Dunno if its using the GH3 guitar, or an improved charting of the songs, but its so much more fun than RB1.

I'd say "Alive" is the best experience I've ever had in a music rhythm game! Superbly charted, great solos and loads of hammer-ons - really fun (and its a fucking great song anyway).

Some other crackers... really enjoyed "Come out and Play", "Testify" - and "Down with the Sickness" is brilliantly done with nice little pinky hammer-ons during the power chords.

Getting late now and I'm already pushing my like with the clicking strummer, so I've not had chance to play "Everlong", "Chop Suey", "Battery" and a couple of others of note - and just flicking through the songs, I've already found some tunes I recognise but never knew the name of ("The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World for one).

Finally, nice touch - in some of the songs, the animation in the background is actually a music video (with your characters in still), rather than a concert setting - which works really well. "Create a Video" in RB3 anyone?....

Highly recommend this to my musical chums!

Re: Rock Band 2

Dont know if you all knew about this feature, but...

In the drum practice mode, you can play songs from your XMB/HDD in the background and drum along in 'free' mode... thought that is pretty cool.

Re: Rock Band 2

My Wifes Excited about the latest news:

Next week's Rock Band DLC represents some post-punk, some rock and the title song to a quintessential '80s movie. Earlier this week it was revealed that Presidents of the USA should be available the week of Nov. 4, but for all we know there may be more tracks added -- as has been the trend lately. Here are the songs that'll be vying for your wallet's attention next week:

Siouxsie and the Banshees Pack (440 / $5.50)

* "Hong Kong Garden" (160 / $2)
* "The Killing Jar" (160 / $2)
* "Kiss Them for Me" (160 / $2)

Individual songs:

* "Dammit" - Blink-182 (160 / $2)
* "Pretty in Pink" - The Psychedelic Furs (160 / $2)
* "Melatonin" - Silversun Pickups (160 / $2)
* "Well Thought Out Twinkles" - Silversun Pickups (160 / $2)

Re: Rock Band 2

EA has announced that Rock Band 2 will "begin shipping" in Europe on 14th November exclusively for Xbox 360 for a limited time.

The software will be released in the UK on 21st November, and the standalone bundle of new instruments will be at retail "beginning in December".

Rock Band 2 solus discs will go for GBP 49.99 / EUR 69.99 but there's no immediate word on instrument prices. The Rock Band 1 "Band in a Box" pack currently goes for GBP 99.99 on 360 and GBP 79.99 on PS3 and Wii.

To say the news comes out of the blue is to put it mildly. Yesterday EA distanced itself from the suggestion the game would be out "this side of Christmas".

But it's bad news for Activision, publisher of Guitar Hero World Tour, reviewed this week, which has yet to officially announce its release plans.

World Tour, which features its own range of instruments, is expected to hit in mid-November as well - and now that the excellent Rock Band 2, reviewed on import recently, is ready for release, it's going to be hard work for Activision to fight off the appeal of EA's decent instruments, excellent software and massive DLC archive.

As we wrote in conclusion when we took on Guitar Hero World Tour, "Were Rock Band 2 on the market today, the decision would be more difficult, as the gap between instrument quality would be reduced and the software battle would go in Rock Band 2's favour."

As well as all that DLC, the on-disc soundtrack for Rock Band 2 is over 100 deep, there's a Drum Trainer and No Fail mode for people who want to play without punishment, and it's possible to import dozens of the original Rock Band's songs for a small fee.

However, the silver lining for Activision is that Guitar Hero World Tour should be available with its instruments in mid-November and Rock Band 2's won't be around until a month later, and also that Microsoft has paid for another exclusivity period, giving it a free run on the PS3, PS2 and Wii.

For anyone who can't be arsed to wait a month on 360, or longer on the other formats, a GHWT bundle and Rock Band 2 solus disc later would be a powerful combo. No doubt it's a subject we'll dig into further as the release plans are brought into sharper focus.

Re: Rock Band 2

Harmonix and MTV may be on the verge of landing The Beatles for Rock Band.

That's the view taken by "several people familiar with the matter", who spoke to the Wall Street Journal yesterday after MTV and Apple Corps scheduled a press conference for 2pm this afternoon.

Songs have indeed been licensed, the WSJ reported, although "Key details about the Beatles game release couldn't be learned, such as which songs, and from what era of the band's career, are to be included. A release date and price also couldn't be learned."

So far MTV and Apple Corps have resisted attempts to clarify details of today's teleconference with executives, which is scheduled for 7am PST (2pm GMT) and promises an "exclusive agreement to develop [an] unprecedented global music project".

Should Rock Band have landed The Beatles, it will come as another blow for Activision's competing Guitar Hero World Tour, which launched in the US this week and is imminent in Europe. European distributor EA yesterday announced Rock Band 2 launch plans for next month.

We'll let you know when Beatles details are in the open.

:SHOCK:

Would be awesome!

Re: Rock Band 2

Stand alone game... not sure if you can export to RB2... more to follow!

Anouncement...

7:12 -- McGrath is talking up the success of Rock Band 2. Calling today's partnership the "boldest move yet" for Rock Band.

7:13 -- Van Toffler, president of MTV Music and Logo group, takes the mic. "Today, we're announcing an exclusive partnership with Apple Corps, MTV Games, and Harmonix to create a brand new video game featuring the music of the Beatles." Emphasis mine: So, this is a brand new game, eh?

7:14 -- Talking about how fans will be able to experience Beatles music in an "interactive, new way." Giles Martin, son of George Martin, to serve as music producer on the project.

7:15 -- Toffler about to pass it off to Rigopulos, but first: "We're not necessarily in the business of producing standalone music games for every band out there," he says, but this was a "perfect confluence."

7:16 -- Actually, it's Jeff Jones, CEO of Apple Corps, talking next. "In MTV and Harmonix, we see partners who admire the Beatles and Apple's original spirit and vision." Talking about introducing Beatles to new generation of fans and giving existing Beatles fans a new interactive way to experience the music. Giles Martin, he says, will "bring the same passion" to the development of the videogame as he did the Beatles Love soundtrack and show. And he's on the call today.

7:17 -- Alex picks up. "This is not just a Rock Band expansion pack, it is much much more than that." A "ground-up" project, a journey through the band's imagery and how the band evolved through their time together. This is a tall order.

7:18 -- Q&A starts. First question -- it's not a "Rock Band" branded title, says Rigopulos. Will be released holiday of next year.

7:22 -- Game will take us all the way through the Beatles' first album "Please Please Me" all the way to "Abbey Road."

7:23 -- The music will be based on the UK releases. Martin says: "We are trying to keep to, as much as possible, is for people to play the songs as though they're playing the originals... More of a way for them to interact with what they know very well as opposed to us remixing as we did in Love."

7:24 --Rigopulos: "A visual exploration of the Beatles' history is a big part of this project."

7:26 -- Does this mean Rock Band won't get Beatles music at all? They aren't saying.

7:27 -- Talks between Harmonix and Apple Corps started 17 months ago, says Rigopulos.

7:28 -- Press release just went out, check out these quotes:

"The project is a fun idea which broadens the appeal of The Beatles and their music. I like people having the opportunity to get to know the music from the inside out," Sir Paul McCartney said.

"It gives me great pleasure to be part of The Beatles / Apple and Harmonix / Rock Band partnership," said Ringo Starr. "The Beatles continue to evolve with the passing of time and how wonderful that The Beatles' legacy will find its natural progression into the 21st century through the computerized world we live in. Let the games commence."

"It's cool. I love it and hope it will keep inspiring and encouraging the young generation for many decades," said Yoko Ono Lennon.

"People are having so much fun playing Rock Band. Combined with The Beatles tracks, it is a great way to either listen or participate," said Olivia Harrison. "If you like the music, it doesn't take much persuasion to get you to play."

7:29 -- Those four people will be involved "every step of the way creatively and musically." Apparently they've all seen the game running already. I'm jealous! Of Paul McCartney!

7:30 -- This shit be exclusive, says an MTV exec (I am paraphrasing.) No Beatles in Guitar Hero, guys.

7:31 -- Alex Rigopulos says they're not saying what platforms the game will be available on.

7:32 -- They'll come back to the question of digital distribution of Beatles tunes, on iTunes or wherever, at the end of the call.

7:33 -- People are still asking questions about digital distribution and iTunes.

7:34 -- More stuff about how they're not yet prepared to talk about the content of the game.

7:35 -- Is there a "competitive element" to the game, or is it strictly "immersion and interaction," someone asks. Good question! They're not answering.

7:36 -- Why not call the game "Beatles Rock Band?" Because they're going into new creative territory, says Alex. "new creative exploration of their music and a celebration of their legacy... deserves a fully dedicated title."

7:37 -- "Game takes advantage of the Rock Band platform in many ways that we'll discuss down the road." (Well, okay. Good. I think people are just hoping that this isn't Wii Music. - CK)

7:38 -- Last question. It'll be a worldwide release, no specific date. Not talking specific songs, but they want to address the entire catalog of the Beatles.

7:39 -- They're going to address the question of digital distribution of Beatles catalog. "All I can say is that we're still working out the details, we have no announcement to make, no date or any information," says Jeff Jones.

7:40 - It's over!
====

Not excited about this. Dont like many of the Beatles songs and I cannot see them being a challenge in RB anyway.

Damp squib (unless you are forced to play left-handed :LOL:)

If its something like GH:Aerosmith, then we may get some Wings, then I'll be interested..."JET! Wooo-ooo-hooo-ooo-ooooooo..... JET!" :))

Re: Rock Band 2

Nah, there's a good few rock songs that The Beatles did, Hard Days Night being one of them :DD

Re: Rock Band 2

Live blog fully updated with details on page 8. Sounds like it may not be an actual 'Rock Band' game and they are vague about giving any details away.

If it was going to be the full band experience etc, why didnt they just say? All sounds a bit odd... I reckon it might be a different sort of game, not sure what, but you will obviously get to play the songs, but maybe in a way we are not used to.

How about something like 'The Sims' but with the Beatles characters and you have to guide them from the early days, booking small clubs etc, to playing Shea Stadium at the height of fame etc.

Dunno... good job I dont make games! :LOL:

(My other idea is a FPS where you can either shoot plectrums, or ping-pong balls from Yono Oko's flower...)

Re: Rock Band 2

Harmonix has detailed the second batch of downloadable Rock Band songs to be stuffed onto a disc and sold in shops.

The 20-strong collection will arrive on 17th November in the US, according to 1UP, and will also be offered on Xbox 360 and PS3 (the first collection was only available on Wii and PS2).

We're waiting to hear back from distributor EA about a European date and price. But you may remember the Rock Band Song Pack 1 cost GBP 25 on Wii, and GBP 20 on PS2.

By using our brain, we predict a price of around GBP 30 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 discs. This, we reasoned, was the cost of one song from Live Marketplace - 160 MSP (GBP 1.36) - multiplied by 20, which works out at GBP 27.20.

The full list is as follows:

1. "Afterlife" - Avenged Sevenfold
2. "Call Me" - Blondie
3. "El Scorcho" - Weezer
4. "Girl U Want" - Devo
5. "Girls Who Play Guitars" - Maximo Park
6. "Indestructible" - Disturbed
7. "It Hurts" - Angels & Airwaves
8. "Just What I Needed" - The Cars
9. "Message in a Bottle" - The Police
10. "Monkey Gone to Heaven" - Pixies
11. "Rio" - Duran Duran
12. "Saints of Los Angeles" - Motley Crue
13. "Simple Man" - Lynyrd Skynyrd
14. "Snow (Hey Oh)" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
15. "The Perfect Drug" - Nine Inch Nails
16. "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" - Fall Out Boy
17. "Time Is Running Out" - Papa Roach
18. "Why Do You Love Me" - Garbage
19. "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" - Judas Priest
20. "Zero" - Smashing Pumpkins

Re: Rock Band 2

I am selling my RB and Fender, sick of paying out for content and there are plenty other games coming out over the next month or 2

Re: Rock Band 2

Made the permanent step up to 'Expert' at the weekend and found a whole new love for the game. Much like the drums on expert, Guitar expert feels like you are playing every note (even the palm mute strums) and once you get over the speed of it, its much more fun.

Cannot believe I also havent mentioned the 'Tour Challenges' - how fun are they!?

If you havent tried, basically, its tiers of 'levels' with a number of challenges in each - one of each instrument type.

Beating a challenge unlocks the more packs, or the next tier of challenges. Challenges initially start of as your normal 3 songs, but after a while it gets fantastic - it picks challenges from your content.

So for example, after completing a challenge last night, I unlocked:

"The BloodSugarSexMagic Challenge" - the 4 songs I have from that album.

"The Oasis Challenge" - the 3 DLC songs

"The Doolittle Challenge" - Play the entire Doolittle album.

"The Infitine 90s Challenge" - this was all songs from RB1, RB2 and DLC from the 90's - which amounted to about 46 songs - IN ONE SITTING! :LOL:

There were others too (60s, Guitar Solos etc), but I just thought what a great way to play the game!?

Re: Rock Band 2

When's RB2 supposed to be coming out. I heard the game is out next week but what about the full band pack?

Re: Rock Band 2

YES! Quality DLC next week -

Jesus Christ Pose (SUPERB!) and Pretty Noose (Very good) from Soundgarden, one of my all time fave bands.

Cannot wait :LOL:

EDIT: Smile Like You Mean It & Mr Brightside from the Killers too... great week!

Re: Rock Band 2

I got this yesterday expecting it to be exactly the same as Rock Band 1 but I was pleasantly surprised. I actually think in gameplay and sound terms its miles ahead of Guitar Hero World Tour. The whole idea of drum fills instead of drum power is great and they sound much better this time and go with the song. The songs I think are better too and theres loads more than GH. The new World Tour mode is also great with you having to complete challenges instead of the boring samey gigs from RB1 or GHWT.

Re: Rock Band 2

OH FOOK!!!!!! I'm definately going to get Rock Band 2 and trade in GH:WT then. I just much prefer the look of Rock Band to GH.

Re: Rock Band 2

Oh my! Rock Band 2 is AWESOME!!! :ROCK: I just love Rock Band! (Dags can add it to his list of my fanboy-isms along with apple ;))).

I went to my local Blockbusters and none of them had any copies of RB2 left in stock. So I went home and rang up Game and questioned interrogated them about trading in GH:WT for RB2. The upshot was, I couldn't trade in my GH:WT because it was part of the Guitar bundle and didn't have a barcode on the back. So I thought for a sec, and then realised I had only paid £50 for the GH:WT Bundle, and Game retail it for £70 still, that it might be worth trading in...

So I went to Bluewater with Guitar plus GH:WT and went to Game and the trade in price that they gave was £40, so I was quite happy with that and got RB2 instead :)).

Oh yeah and I got home and then paid 400 MSpoints to export all the RB1 songs to RB2 :)).

And the 20 free songs that you get with the redeem code on the back of the RB2 manual, about 70% of them I've already paid to download! :RANT:

But I don't care, as RB2 is quality :)).
