Real Madrid Thread

Teams and players have been doing that for ages, why does it matter so much now? Because it's Mourinhos Real Madrid. If it was SC Braga no one would give a damn.

Because they did it in a high-profile Champions' League match and made it so obvious it was embarrassing.

Most of the time when a player wants to be booked they'll trip someone up or at least do something that can be said to be just part of the game afterwards. What Madrid did was make a complete mockery of the game, Alonso and Ramos might as well have stood there and said "do you mind giving me a second yellow please?".

I suppose if you were around in the early 19th century you'd be saying "we've been using Africans as slaves for years! Why is it such a problem now?" wouldn't you?*

Just because people have been doing something wrong and getting away with it for some time, doesn't mean they should be able to continue doing it.

*btw for anyone spoiling for an argument, i'm not comparing playing with UEFA's rules to black slavery, i was just using that as an extreme example.

In my oppinion, as in most of the things Real Madrid has been doing lately, the problem is not what they do (almost all teams do this, and it's logical), but HOW they do it, showing little respect for sportmanship, spectators and rivals.

There's some kind of anxiety in the club to win something, and seems that it doesn't matter much how you win, everything's allowed. I'm quite sure Real will get some silverware this season, but at long term I don't know if it's a good strategy. I think the club is loosing the respect and image around Spain and Europe very quickly.

They don't have much respect from most people but as a club Real Madrid will always attract the best managers and players so they don't really care.

Period.

Real Madrid is the type of club you hate or you love. There's no neutral point but one thing is certainly - Real Madrid is the most prestigious club in the World.

I would call winning mentality, mate.

Honestly, I think people have a bad idea about Madrid due some press bullshits. Mou is doing exactly the same he did at Stanford Bridge or Giuseppe Meazza. The difference is the repercussion in the press, I mean, we all know how Spanish press acts, they tend to make things in an extreme way. Actually I don't see where Madrid were disrespectful with rivals (apart of Preciado's theme). In fact, it's Catalonia press who are flaming things. Every single day they put Madrid in their front page: "Cristiano bla bla bla", "Mourinho bla bla bla", "0-8 tiembla Madrid", "Cantera Barça 8-1 Madrid Cantera", etc, etc.

Honestly, I think you're not aware of how things are unfolding in Spain. Up to the 80s and 90s, Madrid was the first choice team for most of the football fans. It's tipical in Spain to be fan of your local team and also being simpathiser of Madrid or Barcelona. And Madrid was cheered in a lot of stadiums (just like Juventus has traditionally been in most of italy stadiums.

In the last years, the trend has changed dramatically and not only because of the success of Guardiola's team. There's a lot of hatred towards Madrid and not towards Barcelona because of HOW things are being done. It's usual to have Ronaldo and Mourinho booed in EVERY stadium in Spain, something that would have been unthinkable 10 years ago.

Catalan press is only influential in Catalonia, as you should know, while Marca and As, that sell 75% of sportive press, are managed by Florentino's puppets and their editorials are always emphasizing how great Cristiano, Mou and Madrid are. So, despite this press power, Madrid is being booed by fans all around. There may be something else than Catalan shitty press about it, right?

90% of the coaches have told to the press that Mourinho is being disrespectful with them. He has even charged against referees and told "go to shit" to a ref. He didn't even ask for forgiveness and recently told he was very happy to have done so and was very proud of his actions.

If I were a Madrid fan I would be worried about it. And in fact I know a lot of Madrid supporters here in Barcelona that are a bit ashamed of the club as it is right now. You can put all the excuses you want, if you were fair you would accept that all this hatred have to come from somewhere.

I say it again, a winning mentality doesn't imply being disrespectful, insulting people and being a prick. Guardiola has a winning mentality and doesn't act like a spoiled child all the time, and he's not being booed anywhere. When Mourinho went to San Siro two weeks ago, he appeared to the pitch and showed "three fingers" to the Milan supporters, remembering the treble of Inter last season. Now, when everyone is trying to eliminate violence from football, do you think this guy is doing the right thing? I can't think of any serious person who would like that. It's pathetic.

Well that is the thing. Mourinho is representing the image of Madrid now and even though there are humble players like Kaka,Ozil,Khedira,Higuain, and Di Maria in the team, it is Mourinho that is going to give them that image of a bully. The hatered is partly becuase Madrid are super dominant with Mourinho now and it will go away once they start losing and Mourinho leaves which is 2-3 years tops. Look at Inter for example. :D

And what really did you expect? This man needs controversy. He was always complaining about the media in Italy in the way it made things bigger than what they seemed but come on, he loved it. He got into arguements with Ranieri and Anceloti. I was surprised he was so calm in the first couple of weeks at Madrid but then it was bound to start.

Mourinho doesn`t care he is already planning his next gig in the PL  . IMO some look for a wife to have a future and some just want a few days w/ a model (NO- future) and that`s mourinho = NO future! Will he do the airplane celebration ? Will Barca turn on the sprinklers?...I think Barca will win they want to erase that airplane celebration from that day :P

 Best example ever!

Now seriously, I think he's gonna respect the contract in Madrid (in normal condition, of course - remember Abramovich). He already said several times he's gonna rest 4 for year with Real Madrid. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he has never said that before both at Porto and Inter. Then yes, Premier League here we go!

@ drekkard, As I live in Portugal I don't know at all what Spanish supporters thought about Madrid during the 80s or 90s. Apart from the press crap, I also believe this hatred may be related with recent (well, not too recently) management by Florentino Perez and every thing behind his politics. People tend to hate Goliat. As I saw in the NBA thread you also hate the Miami Heat. Finally we share a hatred  (actually, I do not hate the Heat, I just hate LeBron for the way he left Cleveland).

There is an interesting article in Marca about the evolution of both Real Madrid and Barcelona badges. You should take a look. (Oh dare, how awful they were in the past!)

True except Di Maria should not be on that list! He's not humble!

He thinks he's amazing and has thought that for a looooong time now! Even before he had actually proven his worth and was very very young. Of course this great belief/confidence in himself has helped him become the top player he is today. :)

Its that same arrogance that makes Ronaldo what he is, so you cant really knock a player for that.
Thierry Henry had a bit of that at Arsenal too.

Yeah exactly. It's also the same arrogance and self-belief that has turned Mourinho into such a high profile successful manager. I was just saying Di Maria isn't 'humble'.

at the beginning I said this will be Barca vs. Mourinho, Then Barca vs Ronaldo and then Barca vs the economy. I was wrong Barca wasn`t proving a point their game is just 2nd to none and only Arsenal`s style comes close but from a far distances. Never defend against an attacking team you need a balance which we didn`t see in Mourinho`s team.

The longer I see Ramos play on the pitch the more I am disappointed by his behaviour. The second unnecessary sent off during the last weeks and also not the first one for uncontrolled actions based on emotions. To give the kick to Messi is one thing, but to hit Puyol and a second player(did not see who exactly) in the face, is absolutely disgusting. I hope he gets a real long time to think about it, this has nothing to do with loosing against your biggest enemy, this is pure stupidity. I was a fan of him once, but he became an idiot some time ago.

All in all and regarding the whole team you can say that Barca was superior and their win was completely deserved.

He pushed Puyol over, then pushed his face after he came back to shout at him then he pushed Xavi in the face as he walked off.

Best of friends!

Hahaha the funny part is they soon will be again.

Tempers flare in heated rivalries and Ramos has always been a temperamental individual. You just knew Real would get a sending off the way they were absolutely HUMILIATED and DESTROYED! And surely with only seconds left, Sergio who was always gonna be a likely candidate lol loses it.

And he actually had a HORRIBLE game. Nearly every goal, he was involved in on the defending side directly or indirectly and the attackers (Villa, Pedro, Messi, Etc. ) nearly always got the better of him.

Very poor game from him, Casillas and the whole team more or less.

Barca on the other hand were ABSOLUTELY amazing! DIVINE football. Perfection. Sometimes you just gotta hold your hand up and applaud! :WORSHIP: :WORSHIP:

Just humiliating really, very unclassy from the likes of Ramos, Carvalho and Ronaldo.

Ronaldo and Mourinho's faces at the end

@The_Special_One , much respect football is cruel sometimes and for me it`s been 6 Looong years .I do like ALL football including RM and Barca, but I only love Arsenal.

Beboq, of course the team that I love in first place is my beloved hometown club Estoril Praia but I do also feel love for Benfica and Real Madrid (maybe it's the fact of having family in Spain). I'm a very open mind in that question. In my opinion there is any problem in supporting many teams as you want (surely you can't support either Spurs and Gunners :P). It's the same of being member of many associations you like. C'mon, we are member of ONU, NATO and so on. But this is not the main point of my last post. The main point is, you should never give up supporting your team, no matter if you win or lose (at least people can't call me Glory Hunter, in fact I support the losers ).
Your team is playing beauty and sexy footy, you will win titles, it's just question of time. Cheers mate. :))

I've watched di Maria from his time at Rosario Central. And he's a humble player.

And he has the ability to be amazing. Just needs to look up more as I once said at the u20 WC.

I picked him , Aguero and Banega as the best three players in that u20 side.

well, my father supported RM back in the early days 60`s,70`s probably due that so many Spanish was brought to Dom.Rep. and their influence had no barriers.I always had a soft spot for them somewhat. Barca is pure style! you have to admire they way they bring players from within. Mourinho is a good manager ,but Pep exposed him last night , it`s just 3pts. w/ a bag of humiliation.

Yeah me too. He was easily one of the best players in that U20 tourney as well. That's where he first made it to most people's radars.

The guy is an awesome player, don't get me wrong. But in regards to being 'humble' then maybe we have different definitions because otherwise I definitely have to disagree. Messi is someone I call humble. Guardiola again is someone while confident like Lionel, is someone I'd call humble. Di Maria is more like C. Ronaldo or his boss Mourinho in the sense that he's great but he also damn well knows it. He's young, arrogant and has quite an ego. Can be quite individualistic as well. What makes it all the more interesting is that he also has his more 'shy' side.

Nothing wrong with it though, I mean in this world you have different people with many different personalities and characteristic traits. That's what makes it so interesting! :) And for what it's worth, I'm much more like a Ronaldo or Di Maria or Mourinho myself than like a Guardiola or Messi I have to admit. :P Nonetheless, I respect those guys and can see the difference in their attitude.
