Real Madrid Thread

Great FK by Ronaldo, He's already got 6 goals in the CL?! We haven't even reached the knock out phase. Whats the record top scorer?

Ruud probably YG.

Edit = Checked, in 2002/03, Ruud scored ten in the group stages, but of course they were split over two rounds, he got four in the first round and six in the second, so you could say Ronnie has tied with the amount of goals in one group stage, unless someone else has scored more.

Edit 2 = Checked again, in 2004/05 they only had one group stage and Ruud scored 8 times, then obviously got injured and didn't score when we got knocked out against Milan in the second round.

Ruud really was/is a monster in Europe.

He is a good player but everything good is undermined by his unacceptable behaviour in the pitch and the fact he only plays for himself. Very good, indeed, but sad. If he could change these things then he could be a legendary player, but I doubt he will, he's not in the best club to achieve it.

Madrid is playing inconsistently lately, they played better with Van Der Vart instead of Kaka (I still can't understand what good he's done in the last 2 years) and Higuain. They lack playing the wings properly and miss an organizer in the middle. Guti can do it sometimes, but he's also too inconsistent to deliver.

Hope they mantain the good level so we can have a good 2nd half of La Liga.

PS: The media in Spain are so pathetic. I would gladly eliminate all "sporty" newpapers. How can Marca defend Cristiano when he broke it's opponent's nose is beyond me. Both barcelona and madrid newpaper represent a bad role for society and only serve to make people even more stupid. I hate sports journalism in Spain, it's such a shame.

I didnt think he meant to hit him in the face. He's trying to shake him off (maybe a bit too vigorously) and accidentally catches him.

He has only played around 15-18 games and already been sent off twice. As good as he is (and IMO worth his price tag), it looks like his team arent getting their moneys worth.

I mean, he's great when he plays but he's not playing as many games as they probably expected.

Excellent performance by Madrid last night, particularly the first half.

Also that assist by Guti was amazing, much needed goal for Benzema.

Yes it was a very good assist by someone who when mentally fit can be a great player. Only drawback is he's mentally fit only 1 out of 20 matches... Benzema is needing a lot of goals, he can suffer the same problemas Anelka did 10 years ago. Though I think Higuain is much better than Benzema.

Funny how the best teamplay by Madrid this year tends to happen precisely when Ronaldo is not playing....

That's not Ronaldo's fault, its the manager's fault.
Take a look at Man Utd during their strongest period. We were arugably at our best between 2006 and 2008. During both seasons, we managed to score 80+ goals in the league whilst Ronaldo was playing as a winger. After Ronaldo scored 42 goals in that last season, the manager started to focus more of our play through him to the point where he was even the lone striker in some games (while Rooney was pushed to the wing against his own will). And what happened? We scored fewer goals and we were no longer the attacking threat that we used to be. When you have Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov, Giggs, Scholes, etc in your team and the defence is stealing all the headlines, you know you have a problem. The idea of playing Ronaldo up front arguably cost us the Champions League final against Barca too.
And now at Madrid, Ronaldo has been given the same role he had at United during his last season with us (the wrong role).

When Ronaldo is the focal point of a team's attack or formation/strategy, the team as a whole suffers to make him look good. Ronaldo might look like a hero but the rest of the team look weaker than they really are. If Ronaldo was a part of a system where he isnt the most important player, the whole team performs a lot better than usual. We used him the right way (atleast between 2006 and 08), Madrid use him the wrong way. The fact that he's wearing the number 9 shirt tells me he's at Madrid to be the hero and the focal point of the team. He's there to cement his place alongside Pele and Maradona, not to make sure Real Madrid become a successful team again.

for some reason i dont think your being nuetral, LOL. You have to be kidding me, ronaldo for two years was clearley one of the most consistent players in england and europe

I am neutral really, I can perfectly separate my love for barcelona from analyzing things. Ronaldo is a great great player (not the best for me and I don't like his attittude) but the fact is Madrid is playing better without him on the pitch. And I watch their games, mind you. Have you seen them playing this season?

Of course it is a tactical problem, Ronaldo should play on the wing as RuneEdge says. The same happens to Messi at Barcelona. When he leaves the wing to play upfront the team lowers down a lot the performance. I think it's something that most stars suffer from lately. I remember Rivaldo being an absolute beast in the wing, and ronaldinho. But both preferred to play in the middle (maybe it's lazyness or the thought that they will play better that way). And both struggled when left the wings.

There's a reason why great players are great playing in the wing, and it's obvious if you have played football. So, I don't get why Pellegrini continues to make him play in a free role. Ronaldo may score goals, but is not participating in the team, not helping tactically and making the team worse, even if they win more.

The problem may even be having to put Benzema, Kaka and Ronaldo in the team. Too much offensive power but very unbalanced. People thinks simply putting stars together make a better team, and it's not like that at all. Madrid has played a LOT better with Van der Vaart instead of Kaka and would play even better if they had retained Robben and played Robben, Higuain and Ronaldo up front, with very open wings.

They don't play a formation with wingers though, They started out with the 4-2-2-2 which didn't work as it was just too offensive so they've know changed the system to a 4-3-1-2 which doesn't accommodate wingers so the only real option is to play Ronaldo upfront which they have. It might be down to ego but the 4-3-3 would work well for them but since its the "Barcelona way" I can't see them using it.

yes i agree he has been inconsistent THIS season... but yeah i think you hit it, pellegrini is playing him out of position

Taken from FC Barcelona Thread

I don't see how any position apart from LB and CB are "major" priority for Real? Were would Ribery or Silva fit into your 4-3-1-2?.

whereas Barca have a ageing Henry on the left with Ribery or Silva looking like great fits.

4-2-3-1 would fit better.

Imagine:
--------Casillas----------
Ramos--Pepe--Vidic--Filipe (Marcelo)
------Alonso--Cesc--------
Ronaldo--Kaka'--Ribery (Silva)
---------Higuain (Benzema)

In my opinion this is the best eleven you can think about. Pellegrini should realise that 4-3-1-2 or 4-4-2 with 2 mdf are crap. With the players he have and those ones in the market surely 4-2-3-1 is the best option.

Cesc is not going to Madrid, he's a barcelona fan and will return home sooner or later. Besides, MAdrid doesn't need Cesc at all, they only need playong more on the wings and add Silva or Ribery as you say. My oppinion: they already had 2 inmense players, Robben and Snejder, and they let them go to put Kaka in there. And Kaka is a flop, it's ages since I see a decent match from him.

Maybe it's his wife?

:CONFUSE:
She says that through the financial crisis, god gave money to RM to buy Kaka. And she's gonna open a Renascer church in Madrid. She really likes money.

As for Kaká, at least he's still great for the Seleção. :P

Real were brilliant in the second half, really showed their quality. Still most of their "Galactio's" haven't worked out, Kaka? Not yet anyway, Benzema can't get a game, Alonso's been pretty mediocre. Apart from Ronaldo who would perform at any club.

Great spectacle last night, I still believe Kaka will come good, just needs to find the right position on the pitch.
