ninjabreakz correct me if im wrong but is the scotish climate not the same as the english climate i think so.He also rejected AC Milan so im sure he is not daft and saw more sense to come to ibrox. Also the spl might be poor but it doesnt stop rangers n celtic beating premiership teams in europe

I will correct you. I meant, why would a player leave a sunny climate like Monaco (one of the factors) for a team that is no better i.e. Rangers.
As for Rangers beating premiership teams in Europe? You have a very short memory.

Rangers 0 - 1 Manchester United
Manchester United 3 - 0 Rangers

Prso is now playing football in a very weak league, and he is not even playing Champions League football. I just think its baffling.

Perhaps you should ask Prso himself for his reasons. We can't read his mind.

And yes CD you're right, not since we beat Leeds 4-2 over two legs back in '92 have we beaten a Premiership team in Europe. But the only other Premiership team we've played in Europe since then is Man Utd last season so it's not as if there have been many chances.

Re: The Rangers Thread - Murray Returns & Bids to Wipe Out D

True Foxy, just the boy who posted that message was trying to lump in Rangers with Celtic's wins over Blackburn and Liverpool in 2003, couldn't let that go un-noticed ;).

See your team got booed off the park yesterday despite winning and us drawing. When's the next Rangers away game, think McLeish's P45 is being prepared right now.

Away to Aberdeen in the CIS Cup on Wednesday night, then away to Dundee in the league on Sunday.

Then it's at home to Maritimo a week on Thursday. I think if we don't progress to the UEFA Cup group stages, he'll be sacked.

Possible managers? Who knows? I'd like Jimmy Calderwood.

Re: The Rangers Thread - Murray Returns & Bids to Wipe Out D

Toughie, I can see Aberdeen beating you tbh, they're doing well. Don't think he'll get the sack before the Maritimo match but if you lose that he's a cert to go.

Re: The Rangers Thread - Murray Returns & Bids to Wipe Out D

I would also like to see jimmy calderwood but i doubt if we could get him cause aberdeen would do anything possible to avoid losing him to us.... tbh i think we will end up with terry butcher or possibly george graham

0-1 Fernando Ricksen 45'

0-2 Steven Thompson 89'

Great result for Rangers. First away win of the season against an in-form Aberdeen, the result takes some pressure off Alex McLeish for a few days at least.

Re: The Rangers Thread

great strike from Ricksen . . . has there been anymore news on the Murray share issue lately?

Nothing much about the share thing but the club did announce the other week that we are in even more debt. Totalling £71m now.

Most of the focus at the club just now is on how secure Alex McLeish's job is. Failure to reach the UEFA Cup group stages next Thursday, may seal his fate.

Re: The Rangers Thread

Another away win for Rangers yesterday, beating Dundee 2-0. Nacho Novo got both goals, his first two in the league this season and against his old club. That's us 2nd in the league, 5 points behind Celtic.

All eyes are on Thursday now for the game vs Maritimo which could seal Alex McLeish's fate.

Re: The Rangers Thread

anybody goin to the maritmo game on thursday. do u think it will be a sellout?

Re: The Rangers Thread

I'll be there in Broomloan Front on Thursday. £22 which is a bit of a bastard.

My season ticket last season was Govan Front G 212. Had to give it up cos I couldn't afford it and my mates couldn't even afford to halve it with me.

Re: The Rangers Thread

I sat there for the CSKA Moscow game its a good seat.Thats were the hardcore fans sit , never shut up

Re: The Rangers Thread

Aye Broomloan Front is where most of the Northern Irish fans sit. Singing-a-plenty. I'll be wrecked before the game anyway.

Re: The Rangers Thread

well done to the Gers for getting through in the uefa cup but u made it hard for urselfs against a better side they would have takin u to the cleaners....but well done anyway.

Re: The Rangers Thread

Great to be through but we should be beating these teams in normal time.

I heard Prso's second goal was miles ONside and we should have had two stonewall penalties. I couldn't tell from where I was sitting. It was all down the other end.

The penalties were down my end though :mryellow:

Was absolutely brilliant. Shota Arveladze should never ever hit a penalty ever again though. He's crap at them. Novo's was quite jammy as well. Keeper was shocking for that one.

Re: The Rangers Thread

It was our AGM today and a few concerns were addressed.

David Murray says Jean-Alain Boumsong is not for sale at all and definitely won't be leaving in January or at the end of the season, hence the 5-year contract.

The shareholders voted unanimously to accept the rights issue that will be under written by David Murray's steel company for up to £50million. They also accepted the sale of the Albion Car Park across the road from the stadium for the building of a casino and hotel complex. Apparently, because of this, financial stability should return "imminently."

One shareholder voiced their concerns over Celtics recent announcement of a £25million five-year deal with Nike. Rangers responded by saying they're ahead of Celtic in that aspect and rake in between £5-7million a year on Rangers sports merchandise. However, they have a target of £10m a year. The solution....
Rangers are currently in discussion with "two major sportswear manufacturers," most likely Adidas and Nike, to replace Diadora after the end of this season.

Get in!

Re: The Rangers Thread

Read that comment on the kits thing, the only reason you apparently make more than us in that area is because you manufacture your own kits, and Diadora pay you to have their name displayed. Now do you think that Nike or Adidas are going to let Rangers make the kits and then pay to get their name on them, when they make all the kits of the teams they already are in agreement with around the world? And dod you think Nike would give Rangers more money than Celtic when they have been in the CL once in the past 4 years (at best, it might be worse I can't remember), compared to Celtic who have been there 3 out of the last 4 as well as a prolonged run in the UEFA Cup?

"Two major sportswear manufacturers" could cover a lot of sportswear companies, but fans' interpretation of just how 'major' they are will probably be different from Mr. Murray's. Maybe it's Umbro, trying to get back into a Scottish club after their deal with us wasn't renewed, or maybe you're going back to Admiral. ;)

Seriously, this guy ran up the club's current debt, and didn't let anyone know about it until it was at a diabolical level. He's having a laugh if he thinks he can breeze in and say "our kits are better than yours" and everything is alright. His comment on how Rangers "are the most important institution in this country after the church" was hilarious. Aye David, that's why Rangers were overjoyed at beating Maritimo on penalties whilst Celtic were gutted at losing last minute goals against one of the best sides in world football.

"For every fiver Celtic spend, I'll spend a tenner"

Re: The Rangers Thread

It'll all be sorted you wait and see.

I have faith in Davy.

Didn't like his comments about Ball getting injured, how the hell does he hope to get rid of him now?

Re: The Rangers Thread

I hope to fuck it's not Umbro. I'm still carrying out my lifetime boycott of Umbro products.

Wouldn't mind Puma.

And he never said our kits are better than yours. He said we're already making the same money on kits as you are about to get from Nike.

Re: The Rangers Thread

That was tongue in cheek on my part. I'm about to waffle on about stuff you know, but it's to make a point so please bare with me. ;)

He is saying Rangers make around the same/slightly more than Celtic will make from their contract with Nike. However the only reason this is the case is because Rangers manufacture the kits themselves, and don't pay someone else to do it. The Diadora on the Rangers kit is basically a second sponsor, it's just like the 'Carling' on the front. IMO, neither Nike or Adidas will be willing to do this, as they both have a defining, unique 'template' or style for all the kits their brand is printed on - because they make them. I cannot see either of them being willing to let Rangers control design of the kit, and then pay to get their name on it - it flies in the face of what they do.

And I wouldn't believe a word that comes out of Murray's mouth either, for example he's had Ibrox revalued a million times in order to make the debt look less than it truly is. Not to mention, the deal Celtic have sees them get £5m per year, but that's before a shirt is sold - retail profit is in addition to the £5m we get per season.

£70m+ debt, 12 months, all gone! Whoopee! One comment that plays to the fans and no one questions anything said.

Re: The Rangers Thread

Our new 3rd kits uses the current Diadora template so I don't see why the big two wouldn't agree to that. Who knows? Might even end up with the diddy Nike that Aberdeen use. Hope not, but I'd still prefer that over bloody Umbro.

We'll just need to see in 12 months what the situation with the debt is. If Murray can't hold a promise that he's made then he'll be up shit creek.

Some guy has given us £10m to spend in January. Rumours of Barry coming back. I'll admit we need him, our midfield is pretty pants just now. Blackburn are having none of it though saying he's not for sale. But they need money for Mark Hughes this January, and have paid fuck all of the transfer fee... so we'll see.

Re: The Rangers Thread

Feck knows, it's a joke. The way we're going MON won't be here to take us into our CL qualifier next year, and we'll not make it.

Re: The Rangers Thread

yeha n auxerre drew so we have had a good start to the group

Re: The Rangers Thread

"The most hate-filled derby in the world"

...and it certainly showed today!

Rangers 2-0 Celtic

A penalty from Nacho Novo and a header from Dado Prso was enough to see off Celtic but the talking points won't be the goals rather the kicking, punching, head-butting and square goes between the players.

Nacho Novo was picked up by the cameras after 5 mins kicking at Jackie McNamara only one day after having a red card rescinded by video evidence. Missed by the referee.

Henri Camara was booked after reacting to Alex Rae's tap on the shoulder.

Bob Malcolm, on the Rangers bench at the time, is escorted away by the Police for making an obscene gestureduring celebrating Novo's penalty.

Peter Lovenkrands went in late on McNamara and Alan Thompson reacted angrily by sticking his head on Lovenkrands' face. The contact was minimal but Lovenkrands hilariously went down like a tonne of bricks. The crowd roared, Thompson shat himself realising what was going to follow and started crying. Players start running over punching and kicking making a huge rammy which is always great to watch. Eventually Thompson was sent off. Lennon booked. Rae booked. Lovenkrands booked.

Camara blatantly kicked Gregory Vignal barely 5 yards away from the linesman who some how missed the incident.

Chris Sutton was sent off for handling the ball deliberatly... twice in quick sucession.

Towards the end of the game Neil Lennon spat the dummy out going in late on Ricksen. The referee gives him a warning but he doesn't learn and 30 secs later he's lunging in on Ricksen again. The referee tries to calm down Lennon who just can't take it and decides to shout "Cheats! Fuckin' cheats!" at the Rangers dugout.

Novo is caught on camera once again. This time allegedly stamping on Stephen Pearsons neck. The replays show Novo apologising straight away however.

In a final act of defiance, a frustrated Martin O'Neill puts his arms round Neil Lennon and leads him over to the Celtic fans to get a cheer. Fanny.

What a game! What a fucking game! 2-0

Have a watch at this collage of violence (7.3MB)

Re: The Rangers Thread

Thought the referee was abysmal.

Novo kicks McNamara after 5 minutes, nothing. The same player later STAMPS on an Pearson's neck/head, nothing.

Thompson does nothing more than 'square up' to Lovenkrands, if you watch from the side-on replay Lovenkrands ALSO does the same, putting his head forward. Lovenkrands spots the invisible sniper in row Z and hits the deck, red card Thompson. Lovenkrands has a history of this, against Celtic in the 3-0 game he was on a yellow card, and he struck Sutton and the free-kick was given - knowing he was about to go off, he then proceeded to spot his old mate the invisible sniper again, and went down like a sack of shit, needing stretchered off. Celtic scored from the resulting free-kick, but Lovenkrands came back on, TV replays again showing absolutely nothing happened to him. The guy is quite simply, a cheat, and if McLeish is happy to whine about Novo being hard done by he'll show some character and hang this guy out to dry, like O'Neill did with Camara after the game today which leads me on to my next point.

Camara should have been sent off, he reacted to Alex Rae's 'tap', which of course was intended to wind him up and it worked (IMO if Novo's ban hadn't been overturned Kenny Clark would have sent Camara off here), by pushing Rae. Later on, Vignal goes in from behind on Camara and both players end up on the ground. Replays show Camara kicking out at Vingal, but what no one picks up on is Vignal first kicks out at Camara. Both players here should have walked, because Vignal was booked for the original tackle and then if he kicks out the ref has to book/red him. Camara's kick was far clearer, and he should have walked, no doubt whatsoever. At least MON has the guts to say he should have been off.

Pish, but I just got Pro Evo 4 thru my door, so I am now a happy camper again. :)
