PALERMO IN QUARTER FINALS OF UEFA CUP THANKS TO 7 CRAZY MINUTES:

US PALERMO - AJAX 4-0
50' Bouchouari
52' Bouchouari
56' Moutinho
57' Bouchouari (PK)

MOTM: Bouchouari (8,5)

To be fair to Ajax, they were the equal of Palermo save for that 7 minutes. Bouchouari's speed and shot power made the difference.

UDINESE - US PALERMO 1-1

23' Carraciolo
35' Mauri

MOTM: Insua (6,5)

Two beautiful goals (the first was a superb combination, the second a fantastic long range shot) in a good match between two teams who are very close.

Milanwin against Parma and take the lead by goal average. Juventus is third 9 points behind Palermo and Milan.

Below-par Barca Bow Out

Barcelona's disappointing Champions League campaign finally stuttered to a halt last night, failing to reach the knockout stages for the first time in recent years after being humbled at home by upstarts Ascoli.

The Catalan faithful witnessed a frustrating night, as their domestically dominating assembly of stars failed once more to really get going on the European stage. Barca started reasonably well and were the better side in the opening stages, but it became clear that it was going to be one of those nights when Ascoli broke up the right against the run of play, Valerio Virga got a lucky bounce off Puyol's shin and strode on to momentarily silence the Nou Camp with the opening goal. The home side recovered, however, and Samuel Eto'o cancelled out that effort with an accurately side-footed equaliser.

But this was going to be Ascoli's big night. Francileudo dos Santos has endured a dismal start to his Serie A career but once again he came through on the big stage, matching his brace against Benfica by blowing Barcelona away with two goals in five clinical second-half minutes, despite barely featuring in the match until that point.

Man-of-the-match Matteo Brighi, surely in contention for Ancelotti's national side after performances like these, had a hand in both goals. For the first his clever chip sent the ever-adventurous Jaime Lozano to the byline, whose cross evaded two Barca defenders to allow Dos Santos to finish with a composed volley, and for the second Brighi fired the ball directly into the feet of Dos Santos, who wrongfooted Marquez and pinged the deciding goal in off Valdez' post.

lineceleb.jpg

Stunned and reeling, Barcelona needed a win and found themselves unexpectedly - and perhaps undeservedly - facing a two-goal deficit. Ronaldinho kept going and pulled one back in the dying minutes, but it was too little too late for Frank Rijkaard's men. The Dutch coach could face a backlash from the Spanish press this week, not least for the premature exit but also for last night's baffling tactical decision to replace the injured Messi with a fourth central midfielder, playing directly into Ascoli's hands.

The Italian side will join Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk in the Quarter Finals, a tantalising distraction from their disappointing league form. Barcelona, meanwhile, must ensure that they maintain their advantage atop La Liga - for Rijkaard's sake.

BOLTON REVEAL NEW MANAGER AFTER SAM TAKES ENGLAND OPPORTUNITY

Today Bolton wanderers were hit by the news that Sam allaydyce had signed a pre contract for the england job, which many had speculated would happen. The bolton board were quick to relieve Alladyce of his managerial duties, quoting "Bolton need stability now. We cannot have any uncertainty in the club as it causes disruption". The chairman, Phil Gartside was quick to call in rookie manager Tesito Albaraqa to take over the managerial post.

Thanks db. At the time of that signing, half the season - 15 league games. Plenty of time to turn things around (I hope).

Malagó has only played two or three matches so far but he's been a notable improvement already. He seems to have a sharpness that Cudini's 35 year old legs were lacking.

I think Molinari is right, Anders needs some time. How would you rate your first season db?

Could do better mate ;)

I really thought after those first 3 wins there was a smell of victory in the air, however it appears to have been the smoke from a pipe dream.

I think the squad needs whittling down a bit too, as some of the fringe players hardly got a look in really and are just adding to the wage bill.

Anyway, report on the penultimate & last weekend of the season coming soon...

ARSENAL MAINTAIN 9 HOME GAMES UNBEATEN RUN

Arsenal fc once again showed their attacking prowess as they come from behind to beat a determined Manchester city team 3 -1 who took the game to the Gunners right from the whistle and were rewarded with a 5 minute strike from Andy Cole..

In Highbury, were the gunners are enjoying an impressive unbeaten run so far this season proved to be a wake up call as Henry simply outclassed Man city with stunning world class strike to cancel out the lead wit a 40min strike and a double strike in the second half to condemn manchester city to a defeat and send them to a second place position with 11 games to go in premiership as both liverpool and Manchester stutter in thier games against Newcastle and Everton.

Arsenal fc are having such a wonderful season which soccer plaudits never predicted.Under thier new manager MMENY MONEY... who in its first season guided the club to a premiership promotion and a double silverware winning season in the club's history as they won the English division 2 league title and Division 2 cup.

In his first season in the premiership he has guided them to an impressive second place position in the premiership and suddenly the thought of winning the premiership league title with one point behind leaders Chelsea and making into europe doesnt sound like a far cry with 11 games remaining in the premiership. The club boards realising the sudden success they are having in their very first season and the hunger to make it to europe have seen them make significant signings of Alou Diarra from lens and snatch a young moroccan internation Abdessadki from the nose of Charlton Althletics and rejected a big money move for Hleb to Lyon.

Re: The All New PES5 Master League Thread.

It's not that hard mate, you just need to find the download for Max drive to Xport convertor program (Don't remember where I got it from) and then you can convert from these two formats of .xps to .max back n forth. Do a search or ask someone like Fishcake and perhaps they know where to get one from.

As for your ML, well it'll be more realistic than others who have no stats from us but still.. we can only post few stats while tweak so much so this league or ML you're playing could still be shit load more realistic cuz think about it, almost all in Lens for example of just ONE team I'm talking about needed huge tweaks (barely any players were fully correct, needing minimal tweaks maybe there was one or two in whole squad there) yet I've only posted publicly my stat tweaks for Hilton and Alou Diarra to give you examples but judging by how wrong they were (since I showed you their original stats as well), you can see how wrong the others in that type of teams and same teams are as well and I've fixed just haven't posted.

So from this team alone you can see that you have 2 players correct now and still the majority inaccurate while with the first beta file you could have them all correct in Ligue 1 at least. That's why in few days it'll be perfect time for many including myself, JeffT and about 60 others to start our realistic Ligue 1 adventure! :) (So we play with that while other leagues/teams get realistic)

But still it's better than nothing so no problem and you're most welcome! ;)

As for you bringing in Alou Diarra, yeah I don't think it's unrealistic because if Wenger shows enough cash, Lens will sell to Arsenal.

Duisburg Snatch Cup Final Victory

Bayern Munich 1
Hargreaves 96'

MSV Duisburg 1
JH Ahn 102'

(Duisburg win 4-3 on penalties)

MSV Duisburg defeated Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties in the 2005/2006 DFB Pokal final, after the game finished 1-1 after extra-time at Dortmund's Westfalenstadion

Bayern had seen their dreams of a treble disappear earlier in the week, when they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Chelsea in the semi-finals. The Bavarian giants look odds on to win another Bundesliga title and so the DFB Pokal would have meant a welcome double for the Munich outfit. Duisburg came into the final in poor form, having lost at home to VfL Wolfsburg and scraping a 0-0 draw with Hamburg in their previous two league games.

Despite a lack of goals within the 90 minutes, the tie was certainly played like a Cup final. Referee Mark Moller issued 4 yellow cards to Duisburg players, while Bayern saw both Willy Sagnol and Roy Makaay substituted due to injuries. The Bavarian side had the lions share of possession, but the Zebras proved a threat on the counter. After 90 minutes however both teams had done sufficiently well enough to thwart any incursion on their respective goals.

It wasn't until the first half of extra-time that the deadlock was broken. On 96 minutes, Bayern midfielder Owen Hargreaves rose to meet a cross from a corner, to head home what surely looked like the silver goal. The television replays showed that the ball had rebounded off the crossbar and back into the goal off the back off Duisburg keeper Georg Koch. Professor Nutmeg reacted immediately, bringing off the tired Dirk Lottner in central midfield and opting to field the pacey winger Kai Michalke behind the two frontmen. Bayern looked happy to sit back in the remaining few minutes with eleven men behind the ball. On 102 minutes, january signing Blagoj Georgiev was gifted time and space and the Bulgarian moved forward in to the Bayern half. The midfielder then picked out substitute Jung-Hwan Ahn, a yard inside the box. The Korean did well to ride the challenge from Phillip Lahm and stayed on his feet to slot the ball past veteran keeper Oliver Kahn from 17 yards. Bayern's heads dropped as Duisburg's fans erupted in the stands. In a moment of sheer delight, the evercalm tactician Professor Nutmeg darted out of the dugout punching the air as if he'd netted the equaliser himself, the fourth official having to restrain the manager as he buoyed his players on.

Duisburg had forced another 15 minutes from the tie, but both sides were now reluctant to lose possession. And so, just as the the semi-final against VfL Wolfsburg went to penalties, so too did the final. Bayern won the toss and opted to go first. Duisburg went ahead however when Bayern's Peruvian striker Guerrero despatched his penalty over the crossbar. Kahn then showed his experience and quality, when he saved Markus Kurth's spot kick to even things up and raise the tension levels even more. Both teams continued to convert their kicks until Bastian Schweinsteiger's effort hit the post. The youngster appeared to hesitate and payed the price for his indecision. This left Duisburg's Alexander Bugera with the opportunity to seal the victory with his penalty. The ex-Bayern midfielder made no mistake as he smashed the ball past Kahn, sparking huge celebrations from the team and the Duisburg crowd alike.

The DFB Pokal is Professor Nutmeg's first piece of silverware with the club since his arrival at the beginning of the season. Furthermore Duisburg have cemented a place in Europe next season, no matter where they finish in the table. Critics are now drawing parallels with the success he experienced at Hertha Berlin back in PES3. If they are to be believed, Duisburg may well have good times ahead.

Calcio Update...

Ascoli seek late boost

Sasa Bjelanovic's sixth and seventh league goals of the season sealed Sunday's surprising 2-0 win for Ascoli over Inter in the San Siro, prompting Ascoli's coach to call for a strong finish to a topsy-turvy season.

"We have three games remaining and I hope to gain maximum points from all of them. We've had a disappointing season domestically but now we have a chance to finish on a high before we re-group for next season", he said.

To do so, Ascoli must overcome Sampdoria, Fiorentina and potential treble chasers AC Milan, who were responsible for halting Ascoli's Champions League adventure at the quarter final stage. A top half finish is still not beyond them, as Ascoli have lost just once since the end of February in a run of form that has shone a better light on a difficult domestic campaign.

morales1.jpg

Morales heads home

Ramón Morales' agent revealed this morning that the former international midfielder has signed a pre-contract agreement with Mexican club Guadalajara, with a view to returning across the Atlantic this summer.

Morales, who will turn 34 later this year, has enjoyed a successful time in Europe but has been used less and less this season by Ascoli. His forthcoming departure could also raise suspicion over the future of fellow Mexican teammate Jaime Lozano, who moved to Italy with Morales three years ago and formed an inseparable double-act down the left flank.

Re: The All New PES5 Master League Thread.

Supporters and the media alike, will have an opportunity to gauge how this may pan out as Metz travel across the border to Germany to participate in the 2006 Puma Cup. With games against formidable opposition in Stuttgart, Olympiakos, Lazio and Villarreal scheduled.

Nice concept there denirobob :)

I did the same thing when i was doing a ML with FC Twente (on PES4), where i played friendly with teams who were sponsored by Umbro.

Re: The All New PES5 Master League Thread.

Yeah, Konami should put a mini tournament like that in the ML.

Like you'll have the Adidas Cup where you could get called up to participate in the tournament, with three other teams sponsored by Adidas. Also there could put a rule there where everytime you score a goal you get a point (like the Amstadam tournament)...and if you win it you get 1000 point and eveything.

Konami can play around and put other mini tournament in the ML.

Re: The All New PES5 Master League Thread.

Yeah those pre-season prepration cups would be cool.

At the moment it tends to be something like:
GK: Carlo Zotti
RB: Massimo De Martis
CB: Marco Malagó
CB: Matteo Contini
LB: Jaime Lozano
DM: Domenico Cristiano (C)
RM: Valerio Virga
CM: Matteo Brighi
AM: Ramón Morales / Fini / Speranza
CF: Dos Santos
CF: Sasa Bjelanovic
Code:
		LB: Lozano ->
CB: Contini AM: Morales	CF: Dos Santos
GK: Zotti	CB: Malagó	DM: Cristiano (C)	CM: Brighi	CF: Bjelanovic
		RB: De Martis SM: Virga
I'm happy with Zotti in goal, and Contini is my one fully dependable defender. Malagó has done well but is really a stop-gap solution, I'd like to move him to RB and find an experienced CB. That's probably the priority.

Cristiano and Brighi are lock-ins, while Virga is developing nicely. The other priority is to find a creative AMF. Morales is leaving, Fini will be 35 and I don't think Speranza is up to it.

Up front, I really signed Dos Santos to play off Bjelanovic - the target man - but they haven't hit it off. I sometimes drop a striker to add an extra DMF alongside Cristiano, and I think I might do that more often next season.

Re: The All New PES5 Master League Thread.

If the dutch cap fits...

Anders Svensson today revealed the names and whereabouts of the 4 players he is tracking to fill the right wing/midfield berth at Metz.

All are currently plying their trade in the Erivdivisie, and the Swede is confident if the terms are right, all would jump at the chance to show off their ability at a higher level.

It is the first stage in the plan to move promising younster Dino Djiba into the engine room of midfield, where his power, running and graft are hoped will dovetail nicely with the vision and passing ability of Gregory Proment.

1526876208.jpg
Djiba - revs up nicely

Abdelnasser Ouadah is of course the other option on the right, but the Algerian is far more comfortable coming inside onto his favoured left, and has never possessed the pace needed to get down the byline, even more so now, as the years tick by.

This change of formation from a diamond to flat midfield, represents the manager's own admission that the club need more goals and that rather than splash out on a costly centre forward, he would prefer (at least initially) to put his faith in the Tum and Gueye partnership.

4 in the frame....

Hmm, does that come out all wonky on your screen? I had it lined up on mine.

It's supposed to be a flat back four, one central DM, three across midfield and two up top. The midfield three are fairly level with each other but just have different roles assigned.

ANOTHER MASSACRE BETWEEN PALERMO AND EMPOLI:

An outstanding US PALERMO won once again a violent match against Empoli.
There is a catch to this victory however. Man of the match Izmailov was virtually assaulted three times durong this match. This resulted in only one yellow card for Moro and a nine weeks injury for the Russain side midfielder.
Jean Marc Bosman was reported saying that he hopes Empoli will not be able to avoid relegation. Once again wz suffer an injury after a voilent match where theref never thought about protecting attractive players...

Gerd DK refused to comment.

US PALERMO - Empoli 2-1
23' Bouchouari
35' Makinwa

MOTM: Izmailov

US PALERMO still co-leaders with Milan...

PS: what is it with Empoli???are they brutal IRL too or is this a coïncidence???

PPS: Nice touch of Konami. When i had to substitute Izmailow (who had left the fiel on a stretcher), Mariano Gonzalez who was is substitute received orders from a person of the technicalstaff (he did'nt resemble me at all...seemed rather young and attractive).
