A CRACKER !!!!!

Fiorentina - US PALERMO 2-3
(3' Cavenaghi, 12 Fiore, 22' Bojinov, 34' Makinwa, 42' Cavenaghi)
MOTM: Fernando Cavenaghi 8,5 (Makinwa 8, Izmailov 8, Bonnani 8)

This evenings match between Fiorentina and Palermo was a festival of offensive football, graet attacks, great saves and end to end play..
After 3 minutes Palermo took the lead with a crossed shot from Cavenaghi. Makinwa and Moutinho could have doubled the score but Frey denied them with two great saves...
Fiorentina was totally outplayed but their first attack resulted in a goal after a foul on Bojinov Fiore scored from the subsequent free kick. Immediately after that equaliser Palermo would have taken the lead were it not from another great save from Frey on a Grosso volley.
Ball loss from Zaccardo deep inside Fiorentina's half led to the superb second goal of the Tusca side: Bojinov picked the ball up and soloed to the Palermo goal where he beat Vilar with a great lob after awhat must have been a 60 metre run.
Palermo was not dicourage by this turn of the tables and this time Cavenaghi set a goal up for Makinwa; 2-2 after 34 minutes.

By now both teams attacked equally and Vilar had saves on shots from Bojinov, Guigou and Toni.

But once again it was Palermo that took the lead after a beautiful move which started with cavenaghi, went to Makinwa, led to an Izmailov centre and a second Cavenaghi goal. Five goals in one half is rather special in Italian football.

Neither team scored in th second half but that was due to great saves from both Frey and Vilar and bad luck for Fiorentina when a Guigou shot ended on the woodwork.

After the match Gerd DK and Jean Marc Bosman were elated but at the same time felt sorry for Fiorentina bacause they also played a great match and stayed with empty hands.

Gerd DK answered a critical Gazetto hack with one of his typical "wisdoms" when asked about the fact that Palermo makes fairly regularly defensive mistakes: "to me football is about scoring more goals than the opposing team, i know this inst a very Italian approach but we still are second in the Serie A"...

BOAVISTA DO ENOUGH TO MAKE THE FINAL

2 – 2 (Agg. 2 - 4)
Boavista%20badge.jpg

With Boavista taking a two goal cushion to Spain, manager Zakk Stevens left out a lot of the first team players to rest them for the up coming league games which will determine if they will spend another season in division 2 or a first season in division 1. Potenza, Kucera and Polacek all kept their starting places, there were also a starts for Nuno Morais, Rammel, Ederson and Varela.

Line Up (3-5-2) Carini (C) - Potenza, Kucera, Nuno Morais – Edgard Gnoleba Loue, Polacek, Bruno Aguiar, Rammel, Ederson – Varela, Iachtchouk

It was Osasuna who came out all guns blazing with Carini called into action with only two minutes on the clock but Brit’s weak shot didn’t really trouble the Uruguayan international. But the Osasuna pressure didn’t last too long as on 14 minutes Oleg Iachtchouk put the tie beyond the Spaniards by powering a right footed volley into the top right hand corner of Santamarias goal after a pin point cross from the left by Nuno Morais. The next time Santamaria was called into action was on the 32nd minutes when he made a excellent save to deny Bruno Aguiar a rare goal after he tipped his dipping free kick over the bar. 9 minutes later Santamaria was called into making a save this time it was to deny Oleg Iachtchouk who had already beaten him once from making it two out of two. Santamaria managed to get a hand onto Iachtchouks low drive and knock it around the post for a Boavista corner. Apart from Osasunas bright start they hadn’t troubled Carini what so ever in the first half, if it wasn’t for a few good saves from Santamaria they would have been going in at the break three or even four goals down instead of one.

After only three minutes of the second half Boavista won a free kick 20 meters out after Varela was man handled by Clavero. Bruno Aguiar and Polacek were stood over the ball but it Aguiar must have had something in mind as he ushered Polacek away from the ball, after a minute of lining the free kick up he finally struck it and when he did Santamaria could only watch as the ball flew into the top corner to put beyond any doubt that Boavista were in the final. The goal seemed to bring Osasuna to life as they had three clear cut chances saved in the space of five minutes but on the fourth attempt after Fran Moreno had seen his shot hit the post Milosevic was first to react and tapped in the loose ball to score which was no more than a consolation goal. After the goal Osasuna slipped back to their normal lackluster performance and Varela nicked the ball from Clavero and rocketed a shot under Santamaria but the promising Portuguese striker was denied by the post and Michelotti cleared the ball downfield. After that right up until the 91st minute the game was a bore both sides were content to leave it as it was and neither keeper had anything to do. But after a hopeful shot from Brit was parried by Carini, Milosevic came running in and tried to chip the ball over Carini who somehow managed to push it out but only into the path of Bruno Aguiar who bundled the ball over the line to make it two a piece which was a lot more than Osasuna deserved.

After the match Boavista manager Zakk Stevens said this “I am very happy to be in the final it is the first final of my managerial career and the first final for most of the lads. I’m a bit disappointed we drew on the day, we were easily the better team but we fell to sleep at the back a few times and we need to work on the so it doesn’t cost us any more games. We have three back to back league games now and we need maximum points to secure promotion and I am confident we have what it takes to win the title but we will see.”

Boavista will face FC Utrecht in the final in a month’s time after they beat Real Betis 2 nil on aggregate to go through.

Iachtchouk seems to be doing the business for you so far this season. Looks promising for promotion this season too. Good read there.

Yeah he has really impressed me very good buy. Taking into account he only came at the half way negotiations and he has already got 6 in the league and 2 in the cup, I just wish I would have bought him sooner. I have 3 matches left in the league think its Bilbao, Betis and Utrecht and then Utrecht again in the cup final. Thanks alot mate glad you liked it :)

Zebras Continue to Pick Up Points

MSV Duisburg have fashioned a mini unbeaten run of late. The Nordrhein-Westfalen region club have managed 4 games without a loss in the last month, registering 3 wins and 1 draw. Despite an indifferent start to the season, this spell of good form has seen them catapult up the league to fifth spot from tenth, under manager Professor Nutmeg, who is quickly becoming a fan favourite.

The last two league games saw Duisburg draw 2-2 away at Mainz where Markus Kurth was yet again on target. Duisburg claimed another big club scalp in the following week with a 2-0 victory at home to title contenders Schalke.

Critics may have to reassess their season predictions, as in this kind of form, "The Zebras" look odds on to stay up.

S.L Benfica vs Real Zaragoza - Division 2 Matchday 3

Match highlights - http://www.sendspace.com/file/lzdr9z

The three changes made for the home defeat were reversed for Zaragoza against the leagues bottom team at Estadio da Luz. This was a crucial game for both teams, and Benfica were going to be under great pressure in front of their home fans.

Just 5 minutes though, and Benfica took the lead. A long ball forward completely deceived Gabi Milito, and Angolan hitman Mantorras stole in behind the flat-footed Argentinian, and side-stepped the on-rushing Cesar and proceeded to slot home. Of course, his team mates were delighted with the goal, which was only their second in three games.

He's in there somewhere

It took just three minutes for the Spanish side to hit back. A patient build up with La Blanquillos paying close attention to ball retention led to Toledo breaking free down the left hand side. His quick pass to Movilla was then laid off to Oscar, whose one-touch pass allowed Diego Milito to fire in a low, left foot shot that sneaked in the bottom right corner past Moretto. Milito celebrated, and it was probably his brother who was more relieved, as this goal had cancelled out his previous error. The younger Milito did excellently to get away his first time shot before Luisao had the chance to intercept the pass from Oscar.

It was a shame that Gabi Milito was having a bit of a shocker. Karagounis had ghosted in past Toledo down the Benfica right, and Milito's hesistancy was capitalised upon by the Greek player, who slide a ball between the two centre backs toward Mantorras. Whilst Milito did well to get back, his clumsy challenge was enough to prompt the Benfica goalscorer to go to ground. The referee pointed to the spot after just 10 minutes of the match. It was to be Mantorras to take the penalty. His low shot to the bottom right of the goal was superbly parried by Cesar. The rebound fell kindly to Toledo, who cleared the ball to safety.

It must have been a sibling thing, because Diego Milito went mighty close at the other end. A neat move down the Zaragoza left resulted in Savio drifting in field to get away from Alcides, who had been caught hacking away at the Brazilian's ankle. Savio released Toledo, who's cross didn't seem to be finding anyone of a white shirt. Diego Milito, however, came out of nowhere and rose majestically, but his header rattled off the post.

Benfica stole ahead in the 26th minute. A high ball was flicked on well by Nuno Gomes, who had dragged Alvaro out of position. His flick found Mantorras, who controlled well and laid the ball off to the on-running Nuno Assis, who had just got the wrong side of Zapater. Assis' momentum carried him through, and his shot beat Cesar, and restored their lead.

Portugese midfielder restores the home sides lead

This exciting match saw Zaragoza take the fight back to Benfica straight away. Good work by Savio helped to release Diego Milito down the left side. The striker held the ball up well, and found his Brazilian team mate in the box. After some neat play by Oscar, Diego Milito found himself with the ball at his feet, back to goal, with Anderson right behind him. A fabulous turn enabled him to fire a shot away, but Moretto was equal to it, and tipped the ball over for a corner.

Moretto was called upon soon after. Savio made a forceful run in-field which ended when he played in a lovely through pass down the right hand side of Anderson, who was struggling against Diego Milito. Milito managed to get to the ball first, turn and fire a right footed shot from 20 yards out, but the shot was to close to Moretto, who tipped the drive over. From the resulting corner, Savio's outswinging corner was headed just over by Ewerthon.

In stoppage time at the end of the first half, Diego Milito slipped Ewerthon one on one down the right hand side against Moretto. The Brazilian winger will be most disappointed with his finish, which was at Moretto.

Half time stats

The first 15 minutes of the second half was really a tactical battle between the two teams. Benfica tried to keep the ball with Zaragoza pressing, but it was the team trailing that looked to be more dangerous. Good work by full backs helped to release Savio and Ewerthon, but neither player could pick out Oscar or Diego Milito in the middle.

In a moment of madness, perhaps, Beto, who had moved to the right back area to stop Savio latching onto a deflected Movilla pass, turned and played the ball away ... except that pass was straight to Diego Milito. Having gained the ball from about 23 yards out, the lucky striker moved in on goal, and from just in side the D, he slotted the ball into the bottom corner past a stranded Moretto. Milito's equaliser came with just 20 minutes left to play, and the game was up for grabs.

Milito accepts the applause of the away fans after a bad error by Beto

After the equaliser, Zaragoza found it increasingly harder to get the ball of Benfica, who kept possesion a lot better. The rest of the match was played at a more frantic pace, as both sides looked for the winner, but it never came.

Full time match stats

Final Score

Benfica 2 (Mantorras, Nuno Assis)
Real Zaragoza 2 (Diego Milito [2])

League table

Clearly the entertaining draw hasn't really helped either side, as they are the two bottom teams in the division. However, with many games left, it is still too early to rule out either team for a promotion push.

UEFA Champions League Qualification Round

alex.jpg

Fenerbahçe Take Control

Fenerbahçe moved into a commanding position atop Champions League Qualifying Group C thanks to a 1-0 victory over nearest chasers Ascoli.

Brazilian playmaker Alex dealt the damage, curling a ninth minute free-kick into the top corner of the net to give the home side the ideal start. Fenerbahçe were then on top for the rest of the first half, as Ascoli struggled to get any meaningful attacks going with Tunisian striker Francileudo Silva dos Santos somewhat isolated up front on his own. The presence in midfield of Matteo Brighi, rested on the bench, was distinguishable by its absence.

Alex went close a second time, whistling a fierce left foot drive past the near post, while Ascoli's first real attempt at goal was ballooned wildly into the crowd by Román Morales, on what was not a very productive night for the Mexican veteran. Team-mate Mattia Biso did slightly better, at least forcing a save from Volkan with a weak half-volley.

The visitors improved late in the second half when David Bellion replaced Biso and switched to two in attack. The Frenchman added some energy and spark, further evidence of his renewed enthusiasm after an indifferent first twelve months in Italy, but was unable to provide the finishing touch. He linked neatly with Dos Santos only to drag his shot wide of the post, before Dos Santos himself curled a late chance past the same upright. The Tunisian's search for a first goal goes on.

Click to WATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Also in Group C, Deportivo La Coruna and Glasgow Rangers did each other no favours with a 1-1 stalemate, allowing Ascoli to remain two points ahead of them in that second qualifying spot with two fixtures to play. Elsewhere, wins for Valencia and Roma ensured early qualification from Group A and Group D respectively.

Thanks Prof. Yep, it would have been nice if the Dos Santos flick had resulted in something better. Morales perhaps should have let the ball run across to his stronger left, he didn't need to take it early on his swinger. It wasn't a good night for him overall, some say he's not looking like the same player who arrived two years ago.

Fenerbahce beat us in both games and are likely to top the group, now we've got to make home advantage count against Depor and Rangers. Some shooting practice first might help ;)

Real Zaragoza vs Racing Santander - Matchweek 4

Match highlights - http://www.sendspace.com/file/sqvw9n

An injury to Savio, discovered at the end of the Benfica draw, meant that he was unable to play. The shuffle saw Movilla move to Savio's position, and Celades come into the centre of midfield.

It was the away side that started better. Felipe Melo had two long range efforts deflected and then sail wide respectively within the first 7 minutes. Celades had Zaragoza's first real chance - Ewerthon's cross only met the head of a Santander defender, but the clearance wasn't great. Celades, however, on his weaker left foot, fired over from outside the box.

The clearest shooting opportunity was squandered by Ewerthon, who fired wide from his good position from the right hand side of the box. Movilla's cross field ball caught out Pablo Alfaro, who got caught under the ball. The concern was Movilla though, who got clattered after his majestic pass by Stephane Dalmat.

The Mexican was carried off on a stretcher to receive treatment.

However, he just couldn't shake off the knock, and he was replaced by Sergio Garcia, who hadn't featured since his poor display against Alaves. He was to be played out of position on the left of midfield, as Zaragoza looked to use his pace against Regragui.

Santander then managed to stretch their opponents down the left side. Melo, who was impressing by not allowing Oscar time and space on the ball, headed over after good work down the right of midfield by Marquez. Garcia's stint on the left was ended when he was ordered to swap positions with Ewerthon.

With 5 minutes until the break, Santander's Antonito thought he was clean through against Cesar, and had even rounded him before the linesman flagged. Antonito was clearly dismayed with what was a very tight offside call. And, speaking of offsides, with the game in injury time in the first half, Celades played Diego Milito through. Everyone thought that he was offside, including the striker himself, and his effort went just wide of the post from about 27 yards out. The Santander players were furious that the linesman didn't flag, but replays showed that Milito was onside, and had he scored, it would have stood.

The sides went in level at half time.

Zaragoza made a quick start to the second half, forcing Melo and then Dalmat into conceding free kicks from 38m and 21m. Without Savio, Oscar took responsibility for set pieces. His shot from 21m whistled wide of Aouate's post, though the keeper had it covered. Ewerthon's pace down the left was troubling Regragui, who was done for pace and then skill, and had no choice but to foul the Brazilian.

A lovely one-two gave Zaragoza the chance to take the lead, but Diego Milito hit his shot at Aouate after Sergio Garcia played him through. It was beginning to frustrate the fans inside La Romareda. Milito then had another chance after Santander had used up all three substitutions. Alvaro hoofed the ball up the pitch, and Milito didn't beat Neru in the air - he just didn't jump, and the defender failed to connect with the header. Milito raced in on goal, but again, Aouate denied him the opener.

Santander look to change things up to win the game

Milito was determined though, and he had another crack. Garcia dropped off slightly, and won the ball, slipped a good ball through to Milito, who took the shot early across the face of goal, but it went wide past the goal.

Within a minute, Aouate foiled Zaragoza twice. Oscar made a late run, but his shot was parried, and then Milito couldn't reach the rebound. Zapater restarted the attack, and against Milito was stopped by Aouate. It was to be the final chance of the game, as neither team produced a chance beyond these last minute ones.

Final Score
Real Zaragoza 0
Racing Santander 0

Zebras Ease Through First Round

MSV Duisburg have put their name back in the hat for the second round of the Bundesliga Cup. The Zebras, arguably the surprise package of the league under Professor Nutmeg, defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 on aggregate. Jung-Hwan Ahn and Peter van Houdt put Duisburg 2-0 up in the first leg, before Kai Michalke put the tie beyond doubt in the second leg, with the game's only goal.

BOAVISTA ONE STEP CLOSER TO PROMOTION

2587_jogador.jpg

Oleg Iachtchouks second half goal was enough to give Boavista a deserved win

Boavista%20badge.jpg

50125.gif

Manager Zakk Stevens had fully fit team to choose from going into the first of their three promotion deciding games after giving every one of his usual eleven a rest over the past two games.

Line Up (3-5-2) Carini- El Mourabet, J. Costa (C), J. Ribeiro – Edgard Gnoleba Loue, Ederson (Ninkovic 71’), Bruno Aguiar, J. Pereira, Nene – Elton (Varela 71’), Iachtchouk.

Boavista started the game extremely well with every man having at least on touch of the ball in the opening five minutes and Athletic Club seemed happy for them to do so. After 6 minutes of torment Murillo clattered Iachtchouk from behind to give Boavista their first free kick of the day. Jorge Ribeiro swung in a vicious ball with his magnificent left foot which Elton flicked on but only into the arms of Escalona. After 22 minutes of Boavista commanding the game they had their first real opportunity. Elton did well in the corner to hold of Karanka and then laid it back into the path of Ederson who floated the ball to the back post where Oleg Iachtchouk met it with a bullet header which shaved the top of the bar. Try as they might Bilbao couldn’t keep the ball, but their persistence paid off on 32 minutes when Etxeberrias long range effort was deflected wide by El Mourabet and out for a corner. Yeste went over to the left to take the corner, which he played sort to Etxeberria who was caught taking far too long on the ball and once again Boavista cleared the ball high up the field. From then till the half time whistle Boavista controlled the game although never really threatened the Bilbao goal.

The second half was only five minutes old when Boavista finally broke the deadlock. Ederson ran the length of the pitch before crossing the ball into the middle of the Bilbao box where Oleg Iachtchouk was waiting to calmly volley the ball past a helpless Escalona who watched it sore into the top right hand corner. Seven minutes later Joao Pereira had a good chance to put his side two goals to the good, as he was left open on the edge of the area but his shot wasn’t much trouble for the Spanish shot stopper who easily held Pereira’s effort. Escalona again came to his side’s rescue ten minutes later as he palmed Elton’s low drive around the post and out for a Boavista corner. On 71 minutes Stevens made two changes bringing off the Brazilian duo of Ederson and Elton and in their place came Ninkovic and Varela. Just four minutes after his arrival Varela missed a great chance to put the game to bed, after initially playing Iachtchouk through he then received the ball back from his strike partner but could only manage to sky his shot in front of an open net. After 78 minutes of having been virtual spectators to the game Bilbao had their first chance and it came through the lanky Spaniard Llorente, after being played through by Etxeberria he powered his effort goal wards but only found the side netting. After that the game fizzed out with both teams being lazy in possession and the game turned scrappy, but Boavista managed to hold on to the one nil lead which puts them in a great place to gain promotion.

Zakk Stevens had this to say about his side’s performance, “That kind of performance is the reason why we are were we are. We controlled the game noting was happening unless we said it could. We dominated in every area of the pitch and all we need to do is give three more performances like that and we will have done the double, it’s that simple.”

That win leaves Boavista top of the league on the same points as Osasuna. Both teams now look certain to get promoted and it could all happen before the final game of the season which would be best for Boavista who could give their starting eleven a rest before the cup final.

BETIS BURST BOAS BUBBLE

4122977830.jpg

Kim Do Heons goal was enough to keep Boavista from gaining promotion

52265.gif
2 – 1
Boavista%20badge.jpg

Boavista boss Zakk Stevens faced the biggest match of his managerial career against Real Betis. A win for his side and a loss for Osasuna meant that he had won the league and won promotion into the next division. With that in mind he named an unchanged lineup from the victory over Bilbao.

Line Up (3-5-2) Carini- El Mourabet, J. Costa (C), J. Ribeiro – Edgard Gnoleba Loue, Ederson, Bruno Aguiar, J. Pereira, Nene – Elton, Iachtchouk.

Boavista couldn’t have wished for a better start after just six minutes they were one nil up. Bruno Aguiar played in Oleg Iachtchouk who could have shot but looked up and saw Joao Pereira unmarked, Iachtchouk slid the ball across the face of goal and Pereira tapped the ball into a virtually empty net with ease. Then on 22 minutes Boavista were pegged back after some sloppy defending from El Mourabet. He was caught out of position which gave Robert the space for a free header which Carini couldn’t get close to and gave Betis the equalizer. Just five minutes later Boavista were dealt a blow when Kim Do Heon was left free in the box and fired home a second for Betis, again poor marking was the main reason for Betis’s goal. After that goal Boavista couldn’t find a way back into the game, their passes were going astray and they were held to only having long range efforts which were no trouble for Relano.

Two minutes into the second half Oleg Iachtchouk was pulled back on the edge of the area on Boavista had a great opportunity to pull level. Jorge Ribeiro stood up to take the free kick but his effort was stopped by a six man Betis wall and went out for a corner. Although Boavista didn’t make the most of it and Bruno Aguiars poor cross was easily cleared by the first man. Boavista like they had done in the first half were really struggling to break down the stubborn Betis back line and were only able to have long range efforts. On 73 minutes Stevens had seen enough and he brought off Elton and in his place came Hazan Kabze in the hope of salvaging at least a point. Bruno Aguiar could have done just that on 79 minutes after he got on the end of teasing ball from the right by Joao Pereira but couldn’t direct his header goal wards. From then till the end Betis put everyone behind the ball and completely stopped Boavista from playing and that stopped them for the time being gaining promotion.

After the match Zakk Stevens had this to say “Of course I am disappointed with loosing you always are but it isn’t the end of the world we have one game left and we are still more than on the way to getting promoted. We have the team to do it unfortunately we didn’t play to the best of our abilities and we will now have to win the last game.”

BOAVISTA CROWNED DIVISION TWO CHAMPIONS!

065.jpg

Boavista celebrate as they are crowned Champions of Division 2

52323.gif

Boavista%20badge.jpg

With 4 teams all in with a chance of getting promotion it all was down to this game for Boavista. Would it be the best possible end to a great season and see them gain promotion or would they fall at the final hurdle. Zakk Stevens stuck with the side which was beaten by a stubborn Betis side, the win for Betis put them in contention for a place in Division 1 next season. Only time would tell.

Line Up (3-5-2) Carini- El Mourabet, J. Costa (C), J. Ribeiro – Edgard Gnoleba Loue, Ederson, Bruno Aguiar, J. Pereira, Nene – Elton, Iachtchouk.

This was without a doubt the biggest game of their careers for the Boavista players although you wouldn’t have guessed it. They didn’t look nervous or shaky they just seemed to let instinct take over and not get distracted by the importance of this game. All that in mind it was Utrecht who had the first shot on goal, Nelisse got goal side of Jorge Costa and let rip a vicious shot which Carini did well to bend round the post. Nelisse again called Carini into action from the resulting corner when Carini flew across the air to deny Nelisse a certain goal. Utrecht kept the pressure on by having another corner which again found Nelisse but luckily for Boavista his header went harmlessly over the bar. On the half hour mark after some neat interplay by Elton, Pereira and Ederson Boavista had their first real chance, as the ball was crossed in to Bruno Aguiar who caught it perfectly on the volley but he couldn’t quiet direct it towards goal. Then Boavista started getting into their rhythm and on 35 minutes Oleg Iachtchouk hit a snap shot Terols goal but the Utrecht shot stopped was more than equal to it and managed to knock it out for a corner. Unfortunately the corner wasn’t the same quality as the shot or the save and was easily cleared by Keller. There were big shouts for a penalty 3 minutes before half time as Pereira appeared to be pulled down in the box by Van Steensel after some neat trickery but the German referee waved away protests from the Boavista players.

As it stood at half time with all four teams currently drawing, Osasuna and Boavista were going up and Betis and Bilbao had another season in Division two to look forward to. The opening 15 minutes of the second half both teams were battling for possession with three or four tough challenges going in on from both sides. On 70 minutes Nene put a ball behind the Utrecht back four which Iachtchouk was onto in a flash, he then cut inside of Schut and unleashed a venomous low drive which beat Terols all ends up but at the last second seemed to hit a bobble in the pitch which sent it of course and it hit the post. In a final throw of the dice Varela was brought on to replace Elton who had a good game but Stevens needed some fresh legs. Utrecht shut up shop for the last 5 minutes the game ended a draw but as the final whistle blew the ground was silent waiting to hear news of the other results, then all of a sudden there was an almighty roar as word came in that Osasuna had lost which meant that Boavista were the Division 2 Champions!

After a long long time of celebrating Zakk Stevens had this to say “I am over the moon, I can hardly believe it. I knew we could do it I knew right from day one and I’m just over the moon. I’m happy for the fans and the players and everyone involved with Boavista football club it’s a great day in the clubs history and I’m glad to be a part of it.” Jorge Costa the Boavista skipper added this “I am lost for words right now I cant quiet believe we have actually done it, but we must not get too complacent we still have the cup final to get but were half way there if you know what I mean.”

Re: The All New PES5 Master League Thread.

Great stuff there Welsh Wizard - congrats on the promotion. My question - Is your squad strong enough to survive in Division 1? I have my own thoughts on this (I think it is), but what about you?

Re: The All New PES5 Master League Thread.

Thanks a lot mate I didn't think I was going to do it when it came down to last game and I just couldn’t seem to score, but thankfully Osasuna lost.

I think that it is yes especially now I have added a few new additions which I will post up soon ;). I do however think that with my attacking formation and only having three at the back that I will concede a fair few this season especially with playing the likes of Barca, Madrid, Ajax and so on, so depending on how well I am doing I may have to change to a more defensive minded formation mayby 5-4-1, but like I say it all depends on how I am doing.

I’m enjoying watching your master league develop and the pictures make it look class mate keep it up.

After being crowned league champions just seven days ago it was back to business for Boavista as they faced FC Utrecht this time though the league cup at stake. Stevens named an unchanged line up for the fourth game in a row for the final.

Line Up (3-5-2) Carini- El Mourabet, J. Costa (C), J. Ribeiro – Edgard Gnoleba Loue, Ederson, Bruno Aguiar, J. Pereira, Nene – Elton, Iachtchouk.

The final got off to a great start with both teams battling for possession in the opening 5 minutes or so but after that Boavista looked the better side they were confident on the ball and organized off of it, just what you would expect from the league champions. Joao Pereira was causing Braafheid all sorts of problems down the right hand side and the young Dutch man lost his cool with Pereira and lashed out at the Portuguese wingman and received a yellow card for his troubles. Although it was end to end stuff right from the off it took 36 minutes for there to be a real chance in the game and it fell to Utrecht, after some neat dribbling down the right by Van Den Bergh he whipped in a ball which Nelisse headed straight at Carini but the Uruguayan could only parry the save into the path of Fortune but just as he was about to shoot the Boavista captain Jorge Costa came from out of nowhere and took the ball away from Fortune. With that being the only chance of the half it wasn’t a surprise that the two teams went in at the break level.

The second half was identical to the first with neither side really threatening on goal but still both sides having plenty of possession. As the second half wore on it looked ever more certain that this final wasn’t going to be decided inside the 90 minutes. Oleg Iachtchouk nearly changed that after he spun and shot on the edge of the eighteen yard box causing Terol to fly across his goal and tip Iachtchouks curling past the post. It was almost inevitable that the game would go into extra time and with only 2 shots in the 90 minutes it was no surprise to anybody when it did.

Neither side came out in the first half of extra time with any enthusiasm nor any real effort to win the game, and the fifteen minutes flew by. With two minutes gone in the second half of extra time Boavista won a free kick when Iachtchouk was hacked down by Barth from behind. Bruno Aguiar stepped up and saw his effort come back off the wall and Schut cleared long downfield. With seven minutes to go before a dreaded penalty shoot out Nene found some space and crossed deep into the Utrecht area where Elton headed to ball into the path or Pereira who skied his chance which would have defiantly won the game. In the final minute of play Nene again did well down the left hand side and managed once again to find Elton who this time went for goal with his header and looked to have beat Terol but the Utrecht shot stopper scurried across his line and knocked the ball out for a last minute corner. It all came down to this corner from the left hand side, Bruno Aguiar came across to take it he took it quickly and found an unmarked Ederson whose header was blocked off the line and with the clearance came the end of extra time and the daunting task of a penalty shoot out.

Oleg Iachtchouk was the first to step up and he made short work of Terol sending him completely the wrong way. Next up was Ramzi who did the same as Iachtchouk had before him and sent the keeper the wrong way. Elton then placed the ball for Boavista and struck his penalty straight down the middle and Terol managed to stop the ball with his trailing leg to the despair of the Brazilian. Rossini then stepped up for Utrecht but the young Italian took far too long and made it obvious where he was going to put it and Carini made easy work of saving the penalty. Another Brazilian stepped up for Boavista this time it was the exciting left winger Nene who powered his effort out of Terols reach. After him stepped up Somers for the Dutch side and he made it look easy as he sent his penalty crashing into the top left hand corner. Boavistas fourth penalty taker was another winger this time Joao Pereira who put his effort inches wide of the right hand post to yet again give Utrecht the lead. It was on the veteran Dave Van Den Bergh’s shoulders to keep that lead but the pressure got to him and he blasted his effort high into the stands. Boavistas final penalty taker was Bruno Aguiar who like Van Den Bergh sends his shot into row Z. It was all down to Tyces penalty and he stepped up to the ball and calmly slotted it past Carini to give Utrecht a cup victory.

After the game manager Zakk Stevens said this “I am disappointed to loose in the final who wouldn’t be but we have to not dwell on this defeat too long because at the end of the day we have had a fantastic season and won the most important prize which of course is the league title.”

Not one of the Boavista players won any of the end of season league awards, Maachi from FC Utrecht won the best player overall, Bilbaos G.Fernandez walked away with the top scorers award and Sene from NEC was the leading assister. Although two of the Boavista players won division 2 cup awards, Oleg Iachtchouk took the top goal scorer and Milos Ninkovic was the leader in assists, Utrechts Mikoliunas won the overall best player. At the end of the season Boavista were 66th in the WEFA Team rankings.

Paris Saint Germain promoted to Ligue 1
Stewart's second season in charge and PSG finish runners-up in French Ligue 2, automatically promoting the Englishman's team to France's top division, Ligue 1. PSG brought in a few names at the beginning of the season on free contracts and Stewart made some shrewd signings, most impressive the Brazilian striker Lucas Pereira from Dutch club Ajaccio.

Stewart is now looking at bringing in some more new faces as the challenge in Ligue 1 will be a tough one.

STEVENS STRENGTHENS SQUAD

With just one week to go before the start of the season Boavista manager Zakk Stevens unveiled FOUR new signings.

Boavista had kept quiet after the end of last season and nobody had heard anything about what was happening at the Estádio do Bessa XXI, and some of the Boavista faithful were getting a little worried about the thought of going into Division 1 without adding to their squad. Today’s news of four new signings will now let those people breath a sigh of relief.

The first of the four new signings, strangely, is said to have joined the day after their cup final defeat with another two joining the following week and the fourth was said to have joined just yesterday. This confused a lot of people because nothing had been said about it. Why Stevens decided to keep quiet about this until now nobody knew. To the amazement of the waiting journalists when he came out today for what was supposed to be a routine press conference he wasn’t alone, he brought with him 4 fresh faces.

Nigerian international Victor Nosfor Obinna,

Swiss international Reto Zeigler

Czech international Radoslav Kovac

In the press conference Stevens had this to say “I didn't keep the transfers quiet as such, I just didn’t go broadcasting it to the world. Nobody had asked if I had brought in any new players so I didn’t answer.”

“I am extremely happy with the lads I have bought and I feel that they all bring a new aspect to our football with their own individual games.”

When asked if he bought the new players because he thought his team from the season before couldn’t cut it in Division 1 he said “I didn’t think my team from last season could do it for us in division 1, I knew they could anyone saying anything else is out of their minds. I have brought in these players to simply strengthen our already very strong squad. I feel now with the team I have relegation isn’t a worry.”

Here is the Boavistas 24 man squad for their Division 1 campaign

Goalkeepers
1, Fabian CARINI
25, Damien GREGORINI

Defenders
24, Karim EL MOURABET
14, Jorge COSTA
6, Jorge RIBEIRO
2, Stepan KUCERA
27, Alessandro POTENZA
2, Nuno MORAIS

Midfielders
4, Edgar GNOLEBA LOUE
10, ELTON
16, Radoslav KOVAC
7, Joao PEREIRA
11, NENE
28, Milos NINKOVIC
22, Tomas POLACEK
15, Bruno AGUIAR
13, EDERSON
23, Sascha RAMMEL
17, Reto ZIEGLER

Strikers
12, Victor Nosfor OBINNA
20, Oleg IACHTCHOUK
9, Hazan KABZE
19, Silvestre VARELA

This is the probable starting line up Boavista will use if Stevens has a full squad to choose from.

Starting 11

RCB – El Mourabet
CB – Jorge Costa (C)
LCB – Jorge Ribeiro
DMF – Gnoleba Loue
CMF – Elton
CMF – R. Kovac
RMF – Joao Pereira
LMF – Nene
CF – Obinna
CF - Iachtchouk

Funds - 1515
Team Salary - 10239

Stevens, undoubtedly has a tough season ahead of him and no matter what he says I fell that Boavista are going to be in a relegation dog fight all season long. Last year they had a very strong team indeed but this year they will be up against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ajax, PSV, Benfica, Valencia, Deportivo and Villarreal. One name missing from that list is Porto who after a terrible season which was hampered with injuries and of pitch problems was relegated into Division two. That means the two sides will have to wait at least another season before playing one another.

The Mediterranean Premiership – Division 1
Ajax
Athletic Club Bilbao
Atletico Madrid
Barcelona
Benfica
Boavista
Deportivo La Coruna
Espanyol
PSV Eindhoven
RCD Mallorca
Real Madrid
Real Zaragoza
Sevilla
Sporting Lisbon
Valencia CF
Villarreal CF

As you can see I have brought in 4 new players, I was a bit undecided about bringing in Obinna but he is just what I need a quick, strong striker who can finish. I was seriously lacking in left footed players with my only two being Nene and Jorge Ribeiro so when I saw Zeigler and Van Steensel in the unaffiliated section I saw a cheap solution to my left footed problem. I have always liked Zeigler and he has developed pretty well, with Van Steensel I had played against him for that last two seasons and when he had played he was hard to get past and attacked quite well.

Then when I was looking for a CMF/DMF I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw how much Radoslav Kovac has developed he only has Attack, Agility, Shot tech and FK acc which are not in the 80s! To add to that he also has 3 stats in the 90's, Balance, Stamina and Shot power are all 91.

I still think its going to be a tough season but if I play well and get a little bit of a run going I might be able to stay up. I have Ajax first game of the season I will post a report later today

Obinna and Iachtchouk on paper looks formidable. I hope Jorge Costa can keep up with the pace of the top flight.

Voss Answers Red Devils Call

MSV Duisburg midfielder Andreas Voss has been snapped up by Premiership giants Manchester United. The 27 year old defensive midfielder has impressed greatly in the first half of the Bundesliga season under Professor Nutmeg.
United, who were in the market for a defensive midfielder, swooped in the second week of the mid-season transfer window after agreeing a £3.7M fee for Voss.

"We didn't want any players to come or go in the transfer window, because things are going well for us at the moment. At the same time i didn't want to stand in the way of Andreas's dream move to a club like Manchester United. He's in his prime and we wish him all the best in England. We're a small club and when the big boys come asking for our best players, there's little we can do to keep them." said Professor Nutmeg.

Georgiev

The departure of Voss was sweetened however when The Zebras moved swiftly to replace him with Bulgarian midfielder Blagoi Georgiev. The Slavia Sofia ace, recalled from his loan spell at La Liga strugglers Deportivo Alavés, agreed a 3 year contract with the Bundesliga outfit.
