Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Don't know for sure, but I've always seen player individuality as an emergent property of PES, not something that's been consciously programmed into it. The game mechanics allow the players' stats and physical attributes (e.g. small and nippy/big and heavy, etc. etc.) to shine. A happy accident from the start of the series in ISS days.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I can see where you guys are coming from with the manual v assisted controls thing, but imo in multiplayer it shouldn't really be player attributes deciding the winner...

It used to frustrate me no end when on PES5/6 someone would just pass to Adriano at every opportunity, whack it and GOAL, nearly every time... no skill involved.
Same with Beckham at crossing - get level with the box, tap a button and it puts a goal on a plate more often than not.
And with any good passer, you just aim in a general direction, tap a button and get an inch-perfect through ball to set up a one-on-one.

Yes, this may be good if you are building a team in an offline mode as you can get players of certain styles to make a team which suits you, but online people just exploit the assisted nature of the game.

Player attributes don't decide the winner. You still have to play the game, though Rob. It's not so automated that you can play the game blindfolded, like fully assisted Fifa. You still have a choice of different passes and shots to play and where to put them. The game is about timing, context and balance in order to hit the best pass/shot.

I want a good passer to hit a perfect pass 9/10 because that's what players like Pirlo, Xavi, etc do in real life. But if you try to pass when these players are off balance or have to reach for the ball then the success rate is reduced. That's what PES has always been about.

But I know what you're saying about the likes of Adriano - that used to annoy me too - but the same problem exists in Fifa where people will exploit the quick and strong players (the only two attributes that make a difference imo).

I've always felt people used that as a easy excuse for not defending right. I felt because you knew people were going to head to the wings/corner flag looking to cutback or cross or seek out Adriano then in effect you defend against THAT and it was easy done.

It was even easier on a 2v2 as the human would always anticipate the other human running for the wing more than a CPU would.

They would sacrafice their whole shape off the midfield to suit it for wing play so i always used a
3-6-1
4-5-1
4-4-2 diamond

it swamped their wingers and left gaping holes to exploit so for me i never became a victim of the dreaded cutback or Adriano monster

SB changed to CB stopped them leaving gaps and man mark Adriano and it was remarkable how effective this was.

Even if you were the best defender on PES 6, if someone knew how to exploit Adriano et al they could get the upper hand without too much effort. While it had better and improved gameplay from PES 5, the balance had gone. They increased the game speed and the dribbling accuracy far too much to encourage attacking play because too many people complained that PES 5 was too hard, giving the advantage to the defender. But that was what made it great. You had to work hard to look for openings to score. 2010 is more along those lines.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I cannot believe there are still people thinking the game is coming early just because 2 out of 2 million online shop say so. Seriously. You really like the feeling of dissapointment? Go ahead...

I had that after i played FIFA10!

We always defended well against Adriano on Pes with Djuargadens(sp?) and a 361 formation ;)

Gamestation really are doing an offer that allows you to get PES 2010 on either Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 for only £9.99! You do have to trade in a lesser Xbox 360 or PS3 game at the same time, but that's okay, the game they're asking for isn't as good as the one they'll be giving you

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Is that offer for real?

If so i gonna cancel my pre order from play.com and trade fifa10 in for it

Tnx

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Thats what I'll be doing anyway. Not liking Fifa 10 much and have enough good games to finish yet. So when I play a football game it has to be just the one, PES 2010.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Why wouldn't you just sell FIFA on eBay or something for £25+ and buy it from a supermarket on release day for £25 rather than pay £9.99 more to trade it in?

Seems pointless and I've never understood these Gamestation "offers" when they encourage you to trade in a recently released game and get one for £9.99, it's obviously benefitting Gamestation more than the customers.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Because of the hassle? Not only have you got to sell it, but you have to wait 3-5 working days for Paypal to clear in your account. Trade ins are a lot more convenient even if you don't quite get the money you've paid back.

same here. I played PES2009 a few days ago (or was it yesterday) and really enjoyed it. But I need to finish Batman AA, which is another overhyped game before PES2010 arrives because it's going to be the only game in my console for months.

Yep, Gamestation will be laughing by the end of this

Is it me or do some video's look awful when compared to others? This video just seems nothing like the 2 vs. 2 video, or the press review build which looked sublime. This looks unfinished, unpolished, very linear..
