Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

the fact that your still raving about how great the player individuality is, just goes back to my point that konami could piss in your mouth and you would say it tastes like old speckled hen! give me more please!!!

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

your being dishonest quite frankly... there are many situations in PES, where i dont need to hold the ball up dude, i have no one on me, and there are multiple options, but the guy i want the pass is on my left, there is another one of my teamates between the far guy, the scripted PES engine WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO PASS TO THE FAR GUY, Jimmy I dont care what level of football you have played, it doesnt change the fact at what happens above... the fact that your still raving about how great the player individuality is, just goes back to my point that konami could piss in your mouth and you would say it tastes like old speckled hen! give me more please!!!

:LMAO:

It certainly tastes alot sweeter than EA's weak streak of piss. ;)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

He cant only pass to predetermined players Gomito, I'm not buying that. You have the option to hold up the ball and pick the pass. Try using the high pass, or the manual high pass. What about holding down the pass button and missing a player out ? Or waiting for a run and the option to play the lobbed high pass of the soft or weighted through ball ?

Yes, 'YOU' can pass to whoever the fuck YOU want to. How about adding a bit of realism and individuality of the player in possession to use HIS own personal skills and attributes to pick out the perfect pass, or not as the case maybe ? Thats simulating the players natural skills.

A good example last night, Luis Fabiano made a cracking run and I went to pick him out him with a lobbed through pass with Marcello. I tried the pass with Marcello's lesser favoured foot and the pass had far, far too much weight on it and it went out for a goal kick. Did that piss me off ? Hell no, I loved it. If Kaka had attempted the same pass, 8 times out of ten I'll bet the ball would have dropped nicely into Fabiano's run.

Yes you may have been able to pick out the same pass on Fifa using manual passing, but then thats down to your skill as a gamer and nothing to do with the Brazilian defenders weaker ability and lesser technique when using his wrong foot to create the opening. Thats my point. If your happy to play like that Gomito, thats cool with me. Personally it's just not my perception of a simulation.

Very, very, very rarely do I make a mis-placed pass at all on this new demo. The only time my pass isnt executed correctly is when the player makes the error. And lets be honest, how many perfectly threaded through balls do we see actually come off in a real game. One in five ?

The problem we have had in previous PES titles, some more than others, is that these type of through balls found their intended target more often than not. Yes, it's nice to see them come off on a regular basis, but is it honestly that realistic ? I dont think it is.

I have seen people complain, and I have even whinged myself at the weight of some of the through balls not being hard enough in the WE/PES 10 demo. But when a through ball is threaded and placed with pace and accuracy by the likes of Xavi et al, it makes the feeling so much more enjoyable, and at the same time the individuality shines through ten-fold. Konami really have taken this game to a new level in that sense, and that only helps to excentuate the simulated concept of the game.

What does piss me off though is the fact the manual pass is so much easier to direct with a PS3 pad than it is with an Xbox 360 pad. It is still broken on the Xbox 360 pad and gives you very little directional control.

When I played the PES 2010 demo on the PS3 pad, even without practice on that pad since my PS2 days, I still managed to pull off 70% of my manual passes in the direction I wanted them. It wasnt 360' but it was certainly a hell of alot more than 8 directions. I still had trouble with the weight of the manual pass, but with more practice I really feel I can master this.

Just on another note. Not sure how many of you have tried the manual keeper option yet, but I switched to manual keeper last night when Toni was clean through on goal, narrowed the angle, stood my ground, then made a cracking save and tipped it round the post. That did make me smile.

I think Konami may have a real master-piece on their hands this year. And after seeing all the variations of the 1st touch from the world class players on the demo's. I cant wait to get my hands on the lesser teams to see just how much poorer their touches are. It really will make even the slow players with great technique come into their own. Which is a far, but very welcomed cry, from the speed manipulated play of PES 2008 and PES 2009.

PES 2010, simulation.............It's in the game. :SAL:

Well it looks like jimmy's gonna be this years sacrificial fanboy.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

i have no one on me, and there are multiple options, but the guy i want the pass is on my left, there is another one of my teamates between the far guy, the scripted PES engine WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO PASS TO THE FAR GUY,

Ahem ......

If this is your only gripe Gomito, then look, I'll show you how its done.

It's called a manual pass. But lets make it a little more tricky. Lets not make there just one team mate to bypass, lets make it two. Just so they can be no comebacks about using the option to hold down the X button to miss out the nearest player. ;)

Are you ready, then we'll begin ........

(Hope you like the musical score bro. ;))

YouTube - Manual Pass

Here is another one, this one misses out 4 players, and its a diagonal manual pass. This was done literally 2 minutes after the last one. Hope this helps. Just learn the manual pass Gomito and your laughing. ;)

YouTube - Manual Pass 2

So now you can use the manual option if you wish, or use the players own unique ability, both options. Take your pick.

try holding the pass button longer. whenever a situation like this happens I usually hold the pass button longer for a stronger pass that goes to the far player.

Agree. In the demo I felt that when you hold down the button the pass is stronger and goes really far...

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

well i did that, but there are times, they just don't lemme do it... not EVERY TIME, but quite regularly. especially when there's 2 player in a same degree, while one is nearer to my controlled player, the other one is near the byline on the wing, when i decide to give it to the furthest player by holding the pass button longer, it still decide, the closer player is the right choice. oh well.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

God roll on release so I can play it and see what it's like, I'm struggling to love FIFA at the Mo and it's mainly down to MM but not fully, I'm still crossing my fingers this will have the force this time round and be more Episode IV than Jar Jar Binks...

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

im aware of that but 25 ppl on my gamercard have it so its obviously shipped early shops should have it in there stock rooms by now

Brilliant. But im no octopus. Using the right thumbstick to control that while playing in game is frankly awkward and near impossible to use successfully.

Oh !! Thats a shame. This is me in my front room.

But seriously, I'm not very good with the manual pass, but I'm learning. To say it's near impossible is a little off the mark when someone like me can pick two passes out like that in the space of a 2 minutes of match play.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Apologies if this has been posted. Guardian preview :

Maybe it was the continued innovation of the online play, particularly the 10vs10, or the vastly improved feel of the action. Or perhaps it was the dubious pleasure in playing as Southampton - but FIFA 10 has certainly seduced me recently. And as a total package FIFA 10 is hard to beat. But after a weekend playing PES 2010 it has quickly became obvious that on the pitch – ultimately where it matters most, of course – PES simply plays the more satisfying and entertaining game of football.

The caveat here is that I haven't played online yet. Online play isn't live yet and probably won't be until the week of launch. For me this is crucial. Last year's appallingly convoluted offering – want to play 2vs2 with a friend on the same team? Good luck – really killed the game for me. Have Konami fixed it this year? We'll find out very soon. But if it is the same menu-ridden and laggy mess of last year then FIFA's siren call will become too much.

But on the pitch things are looking very very good indeed. Regular players will know how satisfying PES feels and 2010 is as blissfully expressive as ever. Aerial through balls are a particular delight but first time passes and accurately weighted crosses are all a joy. Le Tissier style 40-yard cross field passes are possible too and the game encourages and rewards you to try out new moves.

The 360 degree control – less heavily marketed here than it is with FIFA but a first for the series – makes a difference too. Initial discomfort soon gives way to a greater feel on the pitch, with plenty of room to improvise as you create space for a cross or shot.

The action feels slightly slower than 2009 but is still much faster than FIFA. A typical PES game is more akin to the recent 4-3 Manchester derby than the continentally paced FIFA. Yes, this is almost a complete reversal of historical trends. But FIFA 2001 – or whenever – goalfests were never this entertaining.

The game feels slightly easier though. I played on regular settings and won the Champions League easily – an 8-0 aggregate win over Man United was a highlight – by using simple tactics of through-balls and double-tap crosses. Whether this is ease is intentional – or maybe I'm better than I thought? - remains to be seen but regular players would be better off starting on at least professional level.

So what else? Well finally – finally! – Konami seems to have got the in-game presentation right. Licensed music and well designed and legible menu screens? Yup, it's a world away from PES of the past. The Champions League licence is central to the game and the menus give you all the encouragement you need to get started on your campaign. Maybe next year we'll get the Johnstones Paint Trophy too? Another nice touch is the muted celebrations from the crowd when you score away from home. The crowd noise generally seems more realistic too – I'm sure they cheered when I cleared a header off the line.

Then there is the Community mode, a new addition to the series. It is essentially a long term record of your results against friends. Great. But currently it is offline only and pointless for anyone old enough to live away from their mates.

So, 48 hours in and I'm thoroughly enjoying PES 2010. Yes, I'm crossing fingers that online is finally sorted, but when it comes to the basic on-pitch action there looks to be a clear winner. I ended my FIFA 10 review by saying PES had it all to do. Well, after a weekend with PES 2010 I'm very confident it has succeeded. Sorry to have doubted you old friend.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

That's quite an article for Konami. Greg is a very respected journo so if he's impressed it certainly bodes well.

Nice find Scutch. All seems very positive. Again, I think we all are our own judge and jury. So I really do take all reviews, good or bad, with a pinch of salt.

But it was a nice read. So thanks. ;)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

So i guess no one else thinks its very similar to last years version then

Yeah, sounds like a great review... very objective since the guy said that he thought FIFA was a clear winner, before playing PES... and there is no bigger truth than his words about online. I only disagree about community mode, that mode is simply GREAT.

:FAIL:

dude, ever heard of simulation games? if today tech already capable of calculating physics involving tire pressure on racing cars or calculating missiles trajectory toward their targets based on their own radar; then dong what you described on a football games should be easy.

the questiion is whether the dev want to do that or not

Driving games and vehicle based simulations: 2 Cars Collide - say each has 8 collision zones (i.e. bumper, door etc) that trigger sub-objects to rotate and move independently (so a high resolution bumper can fall off etc). The sub-objects just shoot off in a direction - usually opposite - pretty simple solution. If it collides with something else it bounces away again. It's not animated by an underlying bone structure, so the object moves off via physics on it's own merry way, using gravity and friction to get it to stop "softly". 8 x 8 variations = 64 possible collisions, with a fairly simple solution.

Football games: 2 Players Collide - say each has 24 collision zones (alot of bones on the body, so 24 is a simple example...). Those collision zones are moving in a pre-determined animation (i.e. running). When it collides that animation must be stopped and a solution must be performed. Does it move the arm back a bit? What about the Foot? Hang on - it's still attached to a skeleton - so it can't just be flung back anywhere, plus an arm can only rotate so far before it would look like it would be broken (so there are "hard" limits set to stop it moving, once that limit is reached the bone can no longer move, so the object it is colliding with could pass through). 24 x 24 variations = 576 collisions - that's the two players, lets include the ball now - (24 x 24) + 24 + 24 (the ball hitting each player's zones). 624 possible collisions, with a complex solution.

When you think about it, a ball in close proximity actually makes it harder - you would have 2 players colliding, and then a ball bouncing around with them as well.

A bullet or missile in an combat game for example would leave one object, no longer interacting with it, travel to another, and then absorb into that other object. Once the transaction has taken place it's kinda over. The bullet / missile is essentially "dead" and another fresh bullet / missile is calculated.

In a Football Game the ball is always "alive" (with the exception of free kicks) so in close areas with two players and it's bouncing around off them, things are bound to stuff up...

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

By the way, as riveting as it is talking about Collisions etc I'm really looking forward to PES2010 now - keep the vids and screengrabs rolling in guys - it's visual foreplay to the pleasure we may all receive from actually playing the final product. Let's hope it's great...

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

The guys from this german gaming site really seem to like the game. The only negative things they have to say are the sound, especially commentary, and the missing Bundesliga. Next to that they talk about stunning graphics, great gameplay and ball physics and fantastic strategy options.

What the fuck!

On all the NEW GAMEPLAY VIDEOS GFX LOOKS LIKE PES 2009 from WIDE CAM.

I THINK IT'S TO DO WITH THE NIGHT GAMES LIGHTING! IT LOOKS IF THEY ARE ALWAYS PLAYING IN FOG, OR RAIN.. IT'S LIKE WHEN YOU TUNE DOWN CONTRAST ON MONITORS..

WERY BAD..

THIS PES IS NOTHING MORE THAN A MORE DEFENSIVE MINDED PES 2008/2009 WITH A BIT NICER GRAPHICS..

WHERE IS COLLISION PHYSICS, ADVANTAGE RULE, MANUAL SHOOTING, 360 PASSING, REALISTICALLY SHAPED NETS, MORE LICENSES, ETC. ETC..

I HAVEN'T TRIED FIFA 10 yet BEING A PC GAMER, BUT AT LEAST THEY HAVE THEIR OFFICIAL SITE, WHERE YOU CAN BASH THE GAME AND DEVELOPERS TO DEATH AND BRING ON ALL FAILURES, AND YOU WON'T BE MODERATED LIKE ON WENB..

SEEMS THAT NONE OF THE GAMES ARE REALLY WORTH PLAYING THIS YEAR..
