PES2010 discussion thread

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

The cpu seems to play a lot of high througballs.
Look at 6:53, a one 2 combination which clearly should have been played low, instead the cpu puts it high and loses the ball.

I also notice that the cpu doesnt try longdistance shots. Instead it keeps on passing. for example at 02:43. I admit he does not have much time, but he could have tried a screamer instead of another high througball.

Other then that the movie looks ok to me.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

yeah looks like it plays alot better than the demo...BUT, the zanetti goal still looked a little scripted...and god knows why the keeper is trying to save with his legs from there...more like sunday league goalkeeping

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

yeah the gk is still annoying to see..a lot my goals where the gk can save with his hands instead use his legs..hope in the final version the gk is much better..

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

goalkeeper should never save with his legs...not really

happens far too often in pro for my liking

the review code has some really good plus points, but keepers are a massive part of the game...HUGE

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Still not convinced.

As for the other geezer saying Pes feels like football, well i havent played a game yet where as soon as i pass it i know its going exactly where i want it and ive never played against opposition who look scared of the ball.

Nor goalkeepers that dont like using their arms! :)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

That multiplayer video looks much better, mostly due to the fact that u can pull off some interesting off the ball moves whereas in single player off the ball movements are pretty poor.

Still if they had implemented a good manual passing system things would be so much better.

I guess fifa for single player and pes multiplayer might be a good compromize. Although it is already clear from that video that cutback is once again way too easy, midfielders just don't close the gap, too easy to run on the wings.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I really liked that video. The graphics look top notch. The speed seems to have been slowed down too. Much bigger focus on build up play rather than sprinting down the wings. Im happy with what I see and I look forward to its release. Im already enjoying FIFA 10, looks like I will be enjoying PES 2010 too! :)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

OMG! That intro movie is fantastic. Easily one of the best intro sequences I have seen to a sports video game ever!

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

FIFA for single-player?
Hmmm, no thanks I'd much rather play the CPU in PES even with its myriad flaws.

TBH fifa is superior in both single player and multiplayer by a lot, but pes 2010 demo in single player is so boring that only option for me is multiplayer and maybe on line, provided they fixed the lag and put some filters. I can't take teenagers playing barca anymore, i am too old for that kinda shit.

To each their own but I find the PES CPU a more interesting and varied opponent even with it going down the wing and scoring headers all the time.
Saying this PES still has more individuality between players and teams imo which is why I prefer PES single-player.
But yes offline multiplayer is where PES really shines, I'll leave 1v1 online to the Barca cutbackers I think and stick to 2v2 online if the lag is acceptable.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

He does have a point about the lag and the filter. Lag for obvious reasons, but the filter sounds especially good.

As much fun as i've had playing pes5 and pes6 online, i also cannot believe all the abusive language and other shit i've had to put up with.
In the end i only played a few people who played the same as me. Thats were the buddylist came in handy.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

That's what you had to do in PES online.
As soon as you find someone who uses small teams you immediately add them to your friends list because they are few and far between.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Agreed.

In the end i only played a guy from Northern Ireland. Connection was ok. We used to play about 3 / 4 games a week. Starting with smaller teams, then usually the netherlands vs Ireland, him being netherlands and me ireland. Final match was always Chelsea - Man United.

We decide beforehand whether to pick a small team or big team. But the most important thing : we both tried to play football.

We had some amazing matches together, with fierce tackles and fouls, but only when necessary.

ah....the good ole days.......

Good point elfie, i am gonna start a thread in the pc section so we can find good players and avoid the tosspots, when pes10 goes live. I suggest someone or yourself does the same respectivly for 360/ps3.:)) I couldnt give a xxxx about pes rankings as long as i play like minded people.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Good idea Buzzyhead,

Only thing is : im a pc player. I just lurk in these threads since there's not much action in the pc threads. :P

I believe i owned every single old gen console, but somehow have not gotten myself to buying a next gen one. Sofar i'm having too much fun on the pc.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Well, just got back from my week in Mexico, had a great time. Weather was great, hotel had its own 'Soccer' pitch, food was amazing, but what I enjoyed the most was having a week away from the all the hot air and gasses spewed out on a daily basis by Charlie 'Volcano'.

I think a lot of people are jumping on the animation bandwagon now. OK, PES doesn't have a lot of new animations this year, but so what. The game still looks fun and is very playable. I've had more fun on the PES demo this year than on the final release of FIFA 10 even though it is supposed to be a proper football sim. FIFA may look nice in motion but the gameplay still suffers in a lot of areas for me. Which is what matters.

To say FIFA is the holy grail for animations is nonsense, especially when you look at some of the shooting animations and the look of dislocation in some of the moves; specifically the goalkeepers (kicking the ball out and stretching to save) and clearance animations. Now NBA 2K10 for me is perhaps the best example of using animations to their real potential. That's your holy grail right there.

We've seen the final code now, we know which animations are in and which aren't. What's the point is banging on about something that's not going to be improved this year? It sounds to me like a lot of naysayers in this thread are secretly looking forward to playing PES this year, but they're trying to come up with reasons to convince themselves that they aren't going to enjoy it. I'm pleased with the new videos, the game looks a lot smoother, the response issues seem to have been fixed and the goalkeepers seem to be a lot more intelligent than before. Bring on the 23rd!

MJ, that is a brilliant post again. I have the utmost respect for you bro, and it isnt a Notts Forest thing either.

To me you are a true football fan at heart, but someone I feel also really understands the game from a footballers perspective. I always had you down as a pro Fifa player, which is cool. But the difference between yourself and alot of pro Fifa players is that you are open-minded, and play the game you see as the best representation, regardless of the brand producing the concept. I totally applaud that MJ. Your not blinded, your not a fanboy, and you call it as it is.

Yes I really enjoyed PES 2009, even with all its flaws. And from what I have read you preferred Fifa 09 last year. Which I can understand, and respect. The fact you always give both games a chance is commendable, and you never seem to align your loyalty to either franchise. You just play what you prefer, and dont bash either game.

Your a great example of how football gaming folk should behave. I can never buy into Fifa, no matter how much I try, and for all the reasons I have mentioned many times.

Fair play MJ, you have my undiluted respect bud, for what its worth. :SAL:

Time for me to check out and catch up on the PES 2010 demo thread, then some WE10 demo action. Man, I missed it whilst I was away.

P.S. Some great posts in here whilst I been away people, enjoyed reading them.

Yeah this is a good idea. It's the unfortunate blight of every sports game online. You are always going to have the majority of chumps who have Barca, Man Utd, Inter and now probably Real Madrid on speed dial when it comes to team selection.

It seems there's plenty of people on here who enjoy playing with smaller teams so we should def set up a separate thread.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

i have pre order to dvd.co.uk at 20,40 euros, i need this game fast, im broken to play at demo

sorry for my english :D

I have no objection in using big teams. Just as long as both players pick one. Most important for me is the attitude of my opponent : it means try to play real football, no quitting, no abusive language and no "im behind 3-0 so i'll tackle every player and get lots of red cards cause i dont care anymore".

In other words : some adult behaviour. If thats the case and there's no lag im sure pes2010 is worth buying. Still holding my breath on the non lag online experience though.....

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

The CPU Ai plays some beautiful one touch football. Some very clever, patient football throughout. Very impressed. The human players are really made to work. The first time, flick initiated one two pass at 1.29 min is lovely to watch. The 1st touch heel flick is sublime, and the surging run that follows is full of purpose. Shame the return pass was cut out by the human co-op. CPU defending looks very tight at times. The movement off the ball looks very good.

I like the CL cut shots as well, looks very authentic. Commentary has some nice relevant lines at times, good for PES.

The weight of pass by Milito at 4.12 is perfect, shame Eto was caught just offside. The demo through balls, unless by technical players arent weighted that well. Great individualism. The Zanetti goal was made in South America. From the cheeky Brazilian lobbed through pass to Zanetti's strength to create the shot.

The counter attack, that leads to another perfectly weighted through ball or manual pass from Milito on 6.38 mins to Eto is very Manchester Utd-esque. Very quick and devastatingly effective. Shame Eto's lob didnt finish the move but I dont see Eto as having the greatest of technique for pulling that shot off anyway. Needed more power for him to put that away, but the ball was close to his body, and straight on, technically meaning he could have used more power and the shot would have chipped as opposed to have clipped, which is the alternative option if the ball is out of your feet or your addressing that chip/clip from the side stance.

The urgency of Karagounis and his tackle, or flattening of Milito  at the end of the first half, 7.03 mins is very realistic. He looks to move the ball on quickly as if time is running out. I like that.

Great video that. Nice CPU AI, tight, patient, authentic, realistic. The CPU's holding of the defensive line and tracking of the runners is for the most part, very good indeed.
