Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Power = height :RANT:...

I'll give you that but overall I still think the PES model is more reflective.

I would like the footballers to sensibly chime in:P but imo most players when they want to get more power they end up leaning back and the ball skies or they scuff it totally (that doesnt happen in PES) There are players who can hit hard low shots but I dont know if that is the norm.

It would be great if we had some way of recreating this - maybe tie it to ST or make it a card but it being a button press wouldnt be accurate either.

If both games are great that would be excellent - it is always easier to play online on FIFA (finding games on this side of the pond) and I cant wait to try the custom set-pieces. I get both games each year but usually only the one holds my attention.

I think the way the shooting is done is great, hit the ball as hard as possible with the given position, angle etc and use the bar to adjust height, if you wan't less power and more accuracy hold r2.

If you don't like it, how would you like it done? Maybe i'm just so use to how it's done this way and maybe there is a better way.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Wow - haven't been on this forum for ages but, predictably, it hasn't changed. Same old 'we need a new engine', '360 dribbling' prattling by people who don't know what either of those things are.

Ahh... so now people criticising the game have no idea what they are talking about? I mean seriously?

How about we wait and see... Just saw a Fifa 10 video and frankly that looks like the same loose gameplay with poor shooting and I can't see any evidence of this so-called 360 dribbling there either... not that I care because I think the whole thing is a red herring anyway.

If you can't see it you're blind. Seems like you are the one who doesn't know what 360 degree dribbling is, not the more reasonable people here.

I've never known so many people crave something so much that they've never actually seen! I mean never mind the fact that the teams are called Man Red and West London White - it's all about 360 dribbling! The game will be unplayable without 360 dribbling, just like the first 6 PESs were! Man they were seriously bad - I had to stop playing them because there was no 360 dribbling! I can't live without it! [For the simpletons on this forum that was actually sarcasm]

The fact that they are called Man Red is not going to effect gameplay. At the end of the day you seem to forget something very serious: people don't want to play 'the first 6 PESs'. They want to play something which is new. That's the problem. To most people, PES is the stagnant force in this race.

Games move on. That's why we had to move to 3D. That's why we have to move to 360 degrees. Whether both games do it this year or not is besides the point.

I know a lot of the fans here are still obsessed with that old PES feeling. That's not something which most people share. I honestly feel that Konami could make PES2010 a carbon copy of PES5 barring graphical improvements, and a lot of you would lap it up because, that game was exactly what you wanted from a football game.

Get a grip guys - since when has PES looked good from a distance? Everyone knows it's about how it plays and if it plays as well as PES 6 (which didn't have 360 dribbling or a new engine) then I'll be happy.

My view: game looks promising, better than Fifa by a mile IMO and can't wait to try the demo. Only then will I start slating or admiring it.

No-one here is presumptuous enough to imply they know exactly what the game will be like. No one is saying for absolute definite that one thing will happen or other - but come on. People are on forums to make assumptions and to make guesses. This forum wouldn't exist if we were all going to just wait til it came out. Thing is, you are making just as presumptuous, though arguably more ridiculous statements about the games. You just criticise opinions which aren't of your persuasion.

from all the news views and expert opinion id say pes10 will be a solid 8\10 game, fifa might be a 9\10 game so i dont think we will have reason to complain in october

Yes.... I can see Gamespot (the non-football loving US-based website) giving PES2010 somewhere between 8.0-8.5 (for the graphics), with FIFA10 getting somewhere from 8.8-9.2

Truly, you can almost guarantee what each game will be rated based on the ratings the previous year. This year I will disregard ANY reviews from ANY site which reviewed PES2009 better than FIFA09. That sounds really biased I guess, but I just fundamentally think their views of what is good and isn't good is so warped from mine that I just couldn't agree with them on a single thing.

oh yeah. Those reviewers usually push in their review disc, play for a day or two, push in the other disc, play for a game or two...

"Oh boy FIFA10 still moves a lot better... and look at all of those licenses. Also "tactically" you can create set pieces for your game, giving "a new dimension" to gameplay."

"On the other hand PES2010 has those arcadish cards (which they will think are ability givers) and they still only have two premier league teams and no Bundesliga... also the menus look like those of a cheap game. FAIL"

The idiots know nothing about value, playability and multiplayer playability (which does not mean LAG/NO LAG... but rather are there exploitable tactics that any kid can do to win). Their approach to PES2010 would be no different than how they'd approach Batman: Arkham's Assylum...

Bets on at least one reviewer likening PES's cards to pokemon? Not that I agree with your game of choice. The PES-loving reviewers are just as, if not quite a lot more deluded ^.^

 Sorry but that made me laugh ^ I hope the PES Demo hits the thursday when FIFA launches. Last year was great with the Demo of PES and FIFA arriving on the same day :DD

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I'm barely gonna take a look at IGNs(usa) and gamespots review, apart from calling it "soccer", they'll be more impressed by the flash rather then technical of football games.

Oh and heres proof of IGNs weak grasp on footy games, Worldwide Soccer Manager american review recieved the worst criticsm ever a few months ago.

Well what's wrong with calling it Soccer? I prefer "Football" but isn't the game your talking about called Pro Evolution Soccer :))

Thats not my point :NONO: Besides, Fifa stands for Federation of international Football Associations, and they aint calling it football.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

lol, just picking up on the 'cheap menu' comment. Why oh why are Japanese game devs continously unleashing these cheesy meanus etc .. (ie. Resident Evil 5, Devil May Cry, PES, even MGS4 to an extent although much improved, etc) compare these to the slick western menus.

Honestly though, why the gulf in presentation between say a FIFA and a PES just based on something as rudimentary as menus. Menus aren't priority to me but them and the PES league tables are quite the pet peeve. ;)

Menus are not important to me either, but I don't know what should scare me more: The fact PES has always had the worst-looking sport game menus in the past decade, or the PES2010 conferences and press releases which keep emphasizing how the menus have undergone a revolutionary cosmetic overhaul....

Tbh, I love the new menus, the fact that they prefer always to keep it simple and user friendly, and the fact that while you are on them, the game is loading on the background.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

i'm loving the looking of the settings screen before kick-off, reminds of going into an arcade to play a footy game. I'm not a fan of all this crisp, neat and simple looking menus, although pes looked crap in the past and fifa always looks great.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Yeah, the new menus are much improved and I also appreciate the super responsiveness of PES menus them but come'on now; spice it up a little, add some glamour to it why don't you. For a nation known for slick modern and minimalistic approach; the PES menus and the other games I mentioned are quite on the cheesy side.

Aaah! there she is! Arcade!!! Yes, their menus still have that Arcade game cheesy mid 80s feel ;)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

A thought about the shirts not being untucked in the wider cam - I think the reason it has been out and now only partially in is the fact that they can get it correctly optimized. MLB2K8 or 9 (cant remember which) suffered from the same problem. The players uni's would look all the same on the full cam but you would only see the differences (baggy shorts / jerseys etc) once the cam switched to a zoomed in one.

Menus - so long as they are easy to traverse I am fine - some of these new EA ones arent the best (Fight Night is good but NCAA10 college football is overkill)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

@PATe.Arminia you see that in the game !?

PS - Did anyone notice the spelling mistake in FIFA10's "Reputation"?

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

From that stance there needs to be at least two animations. One for the 'stab' execution, which wouldnt give it the bend, but more height rather then speed. The other for 'slicing' through the bottom right hand corner of the ball with follow through, which would give it the bend.
it COULD NEVER HAPPEN, PERIOD. It defies s what is possible with a ball!!!! Go show me a youtube of that happening from a real game, or better yet, so me you doing it, since your such a stud footballer and thus the only one who can correctly opinionated about this game, LOL, dude you are reaching

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I just watched a video of the other game's penalties...quite impressive honestly..

I can't say the same thing about our old friend pes, pretty faces and a bit of net paint here and there don't mean much to me since those are the things we can edit ourself.

Structurally the game is stuck in the past:
1) 16 directions are fine but if not supported by fine transition animations they can actually make the game lose realism. Animations are still worse than the ps2 era after 3 solid years of next gen gaming
2) Passing isn't right at all: it is either to a static player or trough pass is somehow too scriped and it feels more like a defender mistake than a nice move when it is succesfull
3) Speaking of which, there seems to be scritping written all over the place, player deflections, goly saves, shooting, corner kicks etc.
4) sliding tackles need some serious rethinking, in real football nobody goes for a sliding tackle to intercept the ball in the midfield when the ball is 10 metres far away, from the video we have pes6 sliding tackles, 2v2 is gonna be almost unplayble

I don't see any sign of structural evolution in terms of opening up the game from it usual patter. Still plays a familiar and decent football, but it gets more and more tedious and duller.
