PES 2019 News Discussion Thread (INSULTS/DIGS = INSTANT BAN)

One other obvious point about fatigue. A players stamina stat should play a big part.

A player with, say, 68 stamina should visibly tire if not subbed off in the second half. Irregardless of using the sprint button too much or not. On the flip side, players with massive tanks of 85+ stamina should be able to cope with getting up and down the pitch for the entirety of the 90 mins without becoming overly fatigued (unless accumulated in master league).

The sad thing, is that something that should be as obvious as this needs to be reminded.

I mean, why are there stats at all otherwise? This fatigue thing not working togheter with attributes would just be an immense joke.

Just praying that the catch up but is gone. Read varying opinions about it being present/not present/toned down in the latest build.

Bottom line, if Mbappe gets past a defender who's notoriously slow then under no circumstances should he be caught unless he is fouled. I really want pes to reflect reality in these situations like it always used to in PS2 days.

To be fair catch up is in the game to give it a little bit of balance. Without it, the game would be a through ball session with speedster strikers and wingers getting hattricks for fun

I'm gonna try the shit out of PA1 when the demo is out. France and Sao Paulo should feel really different but the former should'nt be able to ping pong their way forward with conplete ease just because of that.

I really want to believe all these rapports of PA1 being less assisted but with the history of this game, well, yeah...

This sounds good! : https://twitter.com/PESEP14/status/1025346457602322432?s=19

We're back to talking about people, and not the game.

It's a slippery slope and there's bans at the bottom, guys, because nobody wants to read it. Some people are incredibly (overly) positive - some people only visit the site to talk about how shit everything is.

Both incredibly boring.

Stick to discussing the game.

Right, reposting in a way that hopefully doesn't amount to criticising individual characters, even though I thought I was trying to do that before. Maybe unsuccessfully.

Hmm, that's so stupid. But are you sure it works this way in Divisions? Because there it at least only find other manual passers when set to similar settings. That's why it takes ages to find a match sometimes...
Yes, it's the same filter for all modes. But note: the manual switch is genuine, so it's different when you're on PA1. Manual with the filter on means you'll only face other manual players (though not FUMA, unfortunately). PA1 with it on and you can still face PA2/3. This is why I say we need a genuine, strict PA filter.

PA1 certainly felt like I really love PA1 on PES2019 the freedom to play passed and fins angles/spaces is phenomenal, it was really free so much so people were saying it's like manual - it's isn't full manual of course but by god it's very close as close to manual as you can get.
I can only interpret the claim that PA1 is similar to manual as exaggerated. Are you able to use X to do a square lay off into space yet? Because for the last few games, on PA1 you must use Triangle for this. X always tries to go to feet. If PA1 is close to manual, you should be able to do this, in my view.

no not really that's like saying grown men don't know how to pass in a football game, what happened on the day was people quickly learning to slow the game down and make a pass.
Yes, you'd expect people to adapt to PA1, but regularly you see some playtesters, youtube personalities, and pros change the controller settings to PA2 as soon as they pick it up. We saw it on stream yesterday. And that's a great shame, I think.

If a proper filter was introduced, you might well see the same people learning to play PA1 as you suggest. Without one, the win-at-all-costs playing culture basically ensures people will up their assistance.

I don't think this is true any more. When I got my review copy of 2018, I had the video review written and recorded within 48 hours - it was uploaded before the day of release.

It was immediately noticeable that backheels were everywhere, and that the AI spammed chipped through-balls no matter their team and no matter your setup.

Watch this and tell me that there's anything that another few months of playing would have changed. I don't believe there is.

This isn't the PES of old, where you have to play for a month to understand the subtleties of the changes. It just isn't like that any more.

Think my problem is I want every new PES to be the best ever so in the early days of the game I see it through rose-tinted glasses. Its only after I have played it for a while that I start seeing the flaws. The true test for me is if it has that "I'll have one more game" feeling.

Oh... come on... it's even not funny anymore...

Passing

I played on PA1, 2 and 3 on the day and PA1 is definitely borderline manual with passes and shooting going astray with such ease. It will certainly be my preferred choice if I venture into playing the game offline this year. PA2 still had the instances of passes being misplaced and shooting being less guided but it was certainly easier to build up passes with this assistance and I think it will be commonly used online. PA3actually seemed to speed up the game (which could explain the recent vids that we’ve all seen) as passing and shooting obviously became much easier, it is a slight concern as the majority of online players will potentially use this level of assistance. I know it’s a bug bare for so many people but I think the only way to eradicate these issues and provide a skill gap would be to have just manual and assisted. Without the 3 varying levels. We can all dream eh?

Nice little write-up.

As you say, we need online filters now. The top three divisions of players will all be using PA3. Online will be hell. But then, online is hell...

As a sidenote, though. Imagine you're Konami. Imagine that, at every event you host, a lot of the players are pausing the game and switching to PA3 at the earliest opportunity. Which, it would appear, is what's happening.

What are the devs going to think? Either A) "wow, the default setting (PA1) must be really hard for these guys to use, we'll have to make PA1 easier and more automatic" or - at the very least - B) "wow, these guys love playing on PA3, we'll have to make the experience better for them, and make sure they can use these controls online".

Then we wonder why the game changes from build to build.

Completely off-topic now, but I've lost count of the amount of times I've tried to play an online game of football (largely on the other game) and the kid I've been playing has been streaming music full-volume, talking to his friends, then just dropping the controller when they're losing and wandering off while I finish the game on my own...

Gaming is all about these kids. With attention spans getting shorter and shorter, it's got to be easy to pick up and easy to master. If it's not, there's got to be a way they can buy a shortcut to make it easier. Otherwise, it's "boring", and they'll go back to Call of Duty.

I've already said it (far too often) but... Old-school gamers are screwed. Our hobby has changed.

No no no, see

If I remember correctly the catch up bug was pretty much very present in 2015. It was introduced in PES 2011 to 2012 (included), then returned in 2014 until 2016. And now it's been there but they toned it down a little.
I would much rather there was not catch up bug at all, and a better defensive system to try to combat it. I don't like these ways of evening up the players and the teams.

If I have a slow defender against a very fast attacker, then too bad for me. I should figure out a way to out-smart him. Maybe even man-marking him. But if it's the other way around, and I have a quick winger against a slow defender, why should I suffer the consequences of Konami's incapacity to provide for real stats having impact on the game?. I am not a sprint-button whore but I do think speed is very important in real life modern day football and should be reflected in the game.

That's why FIFA 16 was and still is the best football game IMHO. Because you have so many types of speed and paces, the real key in individuality was to play with it in order to get rid of good defenders.

True but it is what is, best thing you can do if you can't stand the situation is just move on because it ain't ever going to be a realistic football sim like some want.

Agree. PES has changed. You either go with the changes, go back to the old games or walk away from the franchise. No one forces anyone to buy it.

Its like my favourite band. The first 6 albums were superb and the last 5 albums not so good. So what do I do? Go back to the ones I enjoy. Im not gonna waste my time listening to music I dont like and Ive accepted I dont like the direction they took.

The comparison doesn't work though, as to do that in PES you have to accept old teams; squads etc. I care about up to date squads and teams as well as playing a game similar to what I used to.

That wouldnt be a problem if they built a defensive line that is smart enough to make the attacking players get caught in offside position and a midfield that did not give much space to make long trough passes.

These days what people do is passing the ball back while holding 1-2 to make the reciever player to run foward, then they send a L1+Triangle and voala, hes on one on one with the keeper that doesnt come out of his line to close the angle and goal. Cheap, poor goal.

I have seen theses goals already on those videos played by streamers who are supposedly the right guys to test the game and give Konami feedback, they score this cheap goal and react like they earned it something while playing on +2 Passing Assistance.

Laughable

I wonder if this handful of youtubers and their strange followers are really the majority of (remaining) PES customers KONAMI should focus on.

The goalkeeper stuck to their line is one of those "can't unsee" things, I know that is going to bug the hell out of me now. Quite a few of their recent trailers have had glaring examples of it.

Its been like this for years and the same soft finish goals are there to see. Goalkeepers to me are not an individual entity that they should be with stats and behavioural traits. They serve a purpose but I never feel there is anything I can do to make them close down quicker or save etc its all pre-determined animations. The keepers simply are not programmable to change the outcome of the same generic goals each time.

Dan mentioned poor strength and shielding in his assessment for defenders that again is where Pes feels void of realism as its geared towards ridiculous scores hence why the streamer tournaments end in ridiculous scorelines. I am waiting for the demo like us all but the signs are ominous as always.
