Fully agree.
It's funny. I heard Asim said in E3: now you'll be able to see what tactics you're using.
Holy cow!Are people that stupid that they don't know the tactics they're using.

And why would you show the tactics you're using to the opponent? How stupid is that?

I don't know why but Konami is good at ruining their game by adding this stupid features that no one asked to.

lets hope there is an option to hide your tactics as well because if there isn't, it'll be pretty stupid if you asked me.

well put klashman69. i'd given you 2 likes if it were possible.
This video really shows improvements.
We don't know the settings but as long as this kind of gameplay can be achieved with the ingame settings i will be pretty satisfied. I also want more fouls if possible, physical play and midfield battles but what i've seen so far ain't bad.
I also agree with your comment about some not knowing what they want. Some don't even know what to look for in a football game.

Thanks man. It's something we need to focus on the most this year. What do people want from modern football games. The games have changed so much now and how we play them has changed, how unique is the way you want to play?

Played the game all day yesterday. Had a lot of fun. I'm not that simulation oriented as some of you folks are here nowadays. My personal background is that i've been playing PES since PES4, Loved PES5/6 and played PES6 til 2011 fully as the PS3/XBOX360 era of games could never compell to me. Every first touch was wonderfully different and every R2 (Full sprint I use type 2 controls) First touch was way worse, really have to control the ball more. To be fair I had a really hard time on this one, looking forward to be seeing how that evolves when I play the game longer then the 5 hours I got to play. Don't really struggle on Superstar in PES2018 and the passing is way more guided, stronger, ball is way less loose and the dribbling is way easier to me in that game.

Ofcourse these are all my personal opinions, As I said I do am a gameplay guy, I can really spot all kinds of differences in feel as I'm kind of obsessed with gameplay in games. Match vs AI, my first one ever in PES2019.

Great write up, great match, great man!Everything i wanted in this game and was looking forward to summed up right there.

I really think it's just a local versus thing. Almost certain you won't be seeing opponents' tactics in 1v1 online or in 1vCOM. There's obviously no way to shield the tactics message for a human player on the local console, as yet (may be able to switch off in settings).

So: has anyone seen the tactics pop up for a COM opponent? At this stage, that would be the only thing confirming that they've not attempted to shield the messages at all.

I give Konami *a little* credit and benefit of the doubt here.

Im really getting frustrated watching these videos. Superstar, really? It looks like they have nerfed the CPU. I prefer a harcore game, even if its cheated, than an easy game like this. If someone ask for a easier game, there you go. I have played Battletoads, Megaman, Castlevania 3. Today I like Bloodborne, Dark Souls series man. Sorry if Im salty.

I completely understand what you mean! Without to attack you personally, but what is wrong with that video? How can you draw a conclusion that the superstar ki is simple to play against? 'm totally with you when you talk about challenge, I want it too, but pes lost many hardcoregamer and win many casual, which like games fast, end to end and super special goals...

Why on Earth they are people, who farm to get GP? Like play a tournament on the lowest, make a goal and give the ball back to your gk and wait 20 minutes till the game ends, because CPU never attack you in your box. Yes strong fanbase with hardcore pes gamers! *applaus to this guys*

I look many football games tru the season and I play myself for about 25 years, but I give up thinking their will be a game which reproduce simulation football. But like I say hours ago, Konami try to make parts of the game for us, but other parts more casual, more for the mainstream. Unfortunately without them this game has gone long time ago.

@klashman69 I don’t think it’s ppl don’t know what they want I think it’s a case of being frustrated to have to lower expectations after seeing something that early on looked better. Sure it’s a 90 min match fit into a 10-15 min video game that needs to be “fun.” I’m all for that. The best football games were the ones that had “fun” feel with simulation elements. My favorite Winning Eleven was a faster paced game and very fun but simulation elements balanced it out.

For me, the frustration comes from Konami unable to get the basic elements of football down year after year that is prevalent in videos you don’t need the controller in your hand to understand it. How hard is to get basic elements down of the sport you are trying to represent? That should be the first thing you nail down. How many years have we waited for shooting to be decent? Finally it is looking improved. How hard is it to get basic positioning down? Why do we have so many pass assist levels? We’ve had the same defensive concept in PES for 20 years. Tackle, tackle, tackle, intercept poor pass usually A.I. determines the poor pass, tackle, tackle, tackle. Everything is 1v1. That was fine 10+ years ago but that’s not football anymore. It’s about closing down space, cutting off passing lanes, when to step up when to hold up. That’s basic defending. Once again frustration lies in they we’re on there way to embracing that risk/reward concept last year at E3 and to some extent in the beta then abandoned it for the final game. The other game is innovating. Where is the innovation from PES? They were the game that innovated. Now it’s like “let’s make little tweaks because everything is awesome look at our reviews and we’ll milk the fans for legends and myClub micros” I love WE/PES for the joy it gave me and I was extremely positive after E3 last year and very optimistic this year after E3 cuz it looked like multiplayer was going to be really fun. It looked like they made some strides in ball physics, shooting, pass assist, player weight—Atleast at E3. So by no means am I a PES hater. Am I the only one that has to lower my expectations to get ready to play this game? Look at every sports game on the market...wait for it...”but the team is small”..”they have small budget”...Actually they make BANK. And I got nothing but respect for my friends who work at Konami. They aren’t the developers or the decision makers and they work really hard so it can look like I’m dissing my friends but I’m not. This is about Japan doing whatever they want. But each year I still get sucked in like everyone else that maybe it will be different. That PES DNA in my blood lol And I’m sorry klashman I’m not directing all this at you just the top part when I mentioned the frustration. Only venting.

Top words and totally understand this frustration! What would happens with the game, if they decided to get position right, compressed the midfield and make it more sim like?
My brother 22 years old cleary describe it for me. Nobody of the youth generation want to get a realistic football game, the quick action and to nutmeg their opponent ist that what they want... This community and other fans since day 1 are a small part and that's it. They can't get it right for us, even if they want it.
We have to take it how it is now and get the best of it.

I like 17,18 and will like this year's title, because some parts of it will ever be sim like. I love the animation, the little details all around the field that the Japanese create and bring it to the game. They are genius and the other game has no love for this sport. Sorry I never want to attack the other side, but that's the truth! License wins over quality for many year now.

Yeah that is really bad showing people more information about what tactics the opposition will be using, as bad as telling people how many wins in a row you have and what you are rated.

Seeing that info makes people play against the stats and not the person, one of the best things FIFA does imo is that you both spend the first 20 minutes figuring each other out, in this it's like ok this guys 1000 rated and won his last 10 in a row so it's backs to wall and hit em on the counter, would rather play naturally and not know good or bad the other guy is.

Completely disagree, infact i think your frustration is very much coming into accordance with my point about people not knowing what they want because what your frustration has said dosen't for me correlate at all with the last 10 years of PES and since the 20 years PES has been in existence as ISS before, the golden era of the PS1 and PS2 are long gone and PES now is a new game completely and has been for some time. Defending has changed massively for one point over the years, its all about how you set your team upnow, way more than your defensive skills like before. PES moved to a new engine in 2013 with PES 2014 and started from scratch, that was a broken proof of concept game, PES 2015 was good but just basic and only the second year on a new engine. Somewhere between 2016 and 2018 we could of had something special but i'd say in the first two games especially Konami where still having issues with the tron running 'on rails' problem with the new engine, along with poor sabotaging feedback and the usual silly developer mistakes hence why things like shooting has been easy compared to what we used to see in the PS2 era.

Tactics for example especially since 2011 are nothing like what the PS2 era was in regards to positioning and they are almost too important since PES 2015. Regardless of that, the core issues will neglect this as strong point for the gameplay anyway. The best example i would give to you is take PES 5 & 6 compared to PES 2014-2018 now 5 & 6 where the peak of the franchise and 6 solid, quality evolution's in the making before hand, the culmination of 10 years on a single engine importing year after year. Not just that we are talking a game in 8 directions where the CPU fucking you over and deliberate throwing variables in so you couldn't score the same goals all the time was celebrated and rightly so for the time. This dosen't work now, especially with the tron running we have seen the last 4 years. When the game doesn't present with 360 movement the movement sensitivity and depth of animation velocity like we have seen in 2015-2018 its too easy to get your balance correct and hit shots on target with no problem. Thin is in this new era, people want to see visible, realistic and physics calculated inertia to stop a shot they perform from going wide or over, you can do what was done 10 years ago, like another said, the new generation don't an that either.

The only thing i agree upon is the issues with passing assistance, back in 2015 it was quality, same with PES 2013 where it was perfect. Again tis is what my main focus with feedback will be this year is i feel some of the nonsense feedback from the likes of the sidemen have really clouded the issue of pass assistance, from all the videos I've seen especially Spooky's one above the move this year to focus on the community has definitely helped Pass assist 1 get back to what it should be with all the arcade madness now locked into PA 3 hopefully.

Anyway if i don't reply i'm on holiday for 2 weeks. I have a plane to catch.

I’m good. We are just going to end up writing novels back to each other.

Your video restored my faith in this game a bit.

The instant CPU retreat still seems to be there when you win the ball back in your own third. Generally it looks nearly identical to PES2018, all the wayward things work here as well.

The accusation that people don't want know what they want is tiresome. We know what we want because we saw aspects of it at E3, and now those things are heavily watered down. Matt10 is on point as usual. I would say it's more likely that those who have poured thousands of hours into recent titles are just looking to justify their time investment.

Agree with this. To be honest it's not like the majority of issues are minor or complex things, most of them (lack of fouls being the standout issue) are pretty basic when it comes to a football game.

I'm not suggesting that Spooky is dishonest in his views, but he was extremely positive about 2018 and I recall numerous times on WENB he would make posts disparaging people who were critical of it. As a result I have to take this with a pinch of salt.

Spooky play PES since.. ever.. we were having hundreds if not thousands of hours with him on PES6 2 vs 2 from original Konami's servers to PES6J and etc. Then he started his youtube "carrier". So I do trust him. About PES 2018, I am one of the most critical hardcore PES fan , even painful and brutally critical. That's why LAMI was banning me over the years. I hate almost every PES after the PS2 era except PES 2013 and I also think that PES 2018 is a good football game, not perfect there are many problems, but is one of the best.

The only thing that a little worries me about Spooky is that whenever we have spoken or commented on a new PES, He has always been positive for every new PES :D at least at the beginning.

i share a lot from this Matt10L's analysis about some videos from yesterday - today

TLDR : NO MORE MONEY FOR KONAMI FROM ME

Football gaming for me this year will be this :

PES 2018 with Matt10L suggestions + incas suggestions with continuation of my 205 slot squad and as close to MLO recreation without the usual frustratrions that starting a new game with minimal GP will bring

PES 2018 1.5...er I mean PES 2019 - will take a look when free 2 play and then consider playing again in 2020.

PES 2013/14 - will dabble with this too because PES 2018 screwed me over last night in ML with another 90+2 goal against me.

Also if the konami guys are here take note of this. As a supporter of your franchise over the years with false hopes I bought a total of 10 copies of PES 2018 (at discounted prices).

You let me win the games you want me to win in MyClub. Your failure to match me with manualers in MyClub comps is an ignorance to a key part of the community.

Your failure to tackle lag cheats since I reported in 2013. Just Lol.

Thanks

I am more and more convinced we are going to be left behind, we are already left behind.

Every time i watched a Pes 2019 video gameplay i glanced at the like-dislike numbers. Well, every video is overwhelmingly positively judged, like just 2 or 3 dislikes, the rest is all likes. I have never seen something like this before and i remember past Pes videos were much more hated. Almost everyone likes what he sees and you know youtube users are not ashamed to bring down a video if they don't like it.

For me it's like this: accept the little simulation we have (manual passing and shooting) because we are not going to have more than that, or completely abandon hope and don't buy Pes anymore (switch to Fifa).

The instant CPU retreat still seems to be there when you win the ball back in your own third.

1:26, 1:40, 3:18 (I like the attempt), 3:58, 4:26, 0:26 second part. Seems to based on tactics.

Fatigue or scripting?

Take a look at Bentaleb (who's loosing the ball), Caligiuri on the top left (wingback), Harit and McKennie (central midfielders). Partly they don't try to get back at all. Barely make it into their own half. Caligiuri's opponent is easily running away from him.

Someone above mentioned about pes 5 foul system and its pragmatic approach to defending and how it was a pinnacle of its series, and i fully agree. Even if you play pes 6, you tend to mindlessly span square and x anyway because of its leniency with fouls and yet, its still superb in portraying fouls in a game, even injuries. Even in modern fifa, you have to be very wary of spamming the tug button from behind.

But modern pes eliminates the fact that anyone can easily come from behind and nick the ball. Its true and can happen in real life, but not as often as in modern pes definition. The only frequent foul ive seen if you barge into someone. This lack of sophistication is why i guess some brand modern pes as, almost to an indie title. But i have to give credit where due, apart from physicality, ball roll physics and goalie urgency, the gameplay looks pretty decent.

From this, I take it that you don't play online. The ball can be nicked all the time by someone coming from behind, happens quite a lot, probably too much even. I think it's just that in the offline games, COM gives you the luxury of not pressing you with X and [] all game long.

PES14 had the most sophisticated physical duel. It was on the R-stick, part of M.A.S.S. system

In addition to X, X+X, O, R1+X, super cancel, R2...R-stick had something else no other PES game had before and after:

- R-stick flick once, in the direction to nudge
- R-stick flick twice, in direction to body barge/elbow (foul, possible yellow)
- R-stick tilt AND hold, in direction to lean (pressure, push etc.). So basically, when X was not enough, you have to get close and use the R-stick to decide what you want to do.

On the other hand, as the ball carrier, you can also use R-stick to fight back, but doing so you lose agility on the ball (becomes physical). You can body block it a little and then sprint away when you feel the timing is right.

Like many other things that was in the game that year, there were a lot of advanced ideas, but that's an old topic anyway.

P.S. for anyone who has a hard time visualizing what the R-stick controls were about in 14, here's a pic that would help (R-stick = upper body tilt, L-stick = lower body walk/direction):

They did so much to explain how they were going to change Pes forever and look at it now, they were scared by the huge decline in sales and decided to abandon almost everything from that game.

Masuda is back with Pes 2019, he was the one explaining Pes 2014 MASS system, and inertia, but how come he promptly decided to abandon his own ideas? Was he forced to do so because Konami was scared they were going to have an even greater decline if they continued with the Pes 2014 realistic approach? We will never know.

There was a permanent decline since PES2008, the year PES opened itself for simple arcade soccer followed by helpless efforts to find a new symbiosis. Going crazy about PES2014 surely isn´t appropriate.

Pes 2014 was the greatest decline ever in just one year. They passed from 7 mln sales with Pes 2013 to 4 mln copies sold. They were definitely scared of this sudden decline so probably that's the reason they decided to leave that idea and go back to a much simpler concept, easy to develop.

Everyone involved in playing demos, has "really stated" a degree in light? Has really appreciated a fatigue increasing?
Did really see anyone limping, or moaning about an injury?
