PES 2019 Demo Impressions Thread

Really appreciate the time you took to write down all these tips, will definitely take my time with them, and will try to implement them into my game.

One more question, I do learn a lot just by watching others play, and as I said before, I watch a lot of your videos over and over again. Will you be doing any live stream of PES 2019 any time soon? Or posting long videos on your channel? I would really love to just sit down and watch you play the demo. I enjoy taking the time to just learn everything I see fully and be able to then integrate it with my own way of playing.

Thanks again man, really appreciate it!

I mean..there's not much to see, I'm still learning about the game too, like everyone else. It's only been out a week lol. It's not that great to watch, probably looks like me passing and dribbling around in circles trying to play around pressure. There's a lot of stuff I don't have a good grip on yet. I'll stream some games if u want to watch

I would definitely love to watch. I understand that you may still be getting a feel for the game and working out the mechanics of it, however the way you play is what attracts me the most, and that is something that, however new a game may be, is always embedded in the way you try things out and experiment. So if there is any way I can watch please let me know.

You are supposed to aim the crosses on manual
How about the power? Do you really have much control?
The direction is correct but the computer decides the power/spin. It's not manual at all.

I've given up on PA0 crosses since PES2016(not sure) that I use L2(manual modifier) whenever I use the lob/cross button.
It doesn't have as much zip like normal crosses but at least I can control where it lands.

I really want to like PES again but I can't. These main issues are not just something present in PES 2019 but haven't been addressed at all year after year!

My main issues:

  1. Players still feel too clunky and clumsy

    • Controlling the ball from a simple pass takes an age and the player takes unnecessary/unrealistic touches to get the ball under his control. To expand on this point, it should be possible to control the ball whilst moving into space. Players currently stand still, wait for the ball to arrive the feet, then take a heavy touch which brings the ball even further away from feet, then takes several unnecessary touches on the ball to get the ball back under "control". This slows down attacks and by the time the ball is under control, the other team takes advantage and gets the ball back.
Whilst dribbling, players take ages to turn and an age to move up the field. They also allow the opposing team to catch up to the dribbler because dribbling still feels too clumsy and players get their feet confused - which slows down attacks.
Long balls, crossing and ground passes and shots don't have enough zip.

    • The ball moves too slow and is still way too floaty for me. Nothing is wrong with being able to do floaty passes but this shouldn't be the only option available and it shouldn't be the default. Eg. If I have a full bar of power, it should be possible to ping the ball with zip, up the other end of field or simply from wing to wing, whether the ball is played along the floor or the air, in a flash.
Also, too many one touch passes.

That´s the weight of the players and the ball physics that shouldn´t be touched!!! No way!!!
It´s completely right the way it is.
Opinions differ, but I really see KONAMI toning down weight and increasing pace of so many people moaning about it :(.

So are the ground shots contextual or is there a button for it? Full shot power but fully low and on the ground happen this year on basic shooting. But I dont know if I trigger it with a button or that it is purely contextual

I think if you just quickly tap the shoot button, it goes low but hard.
The longer you push the button, the higher the shot goes.
Every year I´m wishing square + triangle to be back for hard low shots.
Last time, they were existent was in PES 2014.

Buildup play starting to come together in full manual. Finishing is still needs work

Very very nice combinations. At the moment, I´m back to manual passing and basic shooting, as I literally always hit the keeper on manual shooting.

Is it just me or is scoring headers nearly impossible? I've created plenty of great chances from crosses, but it always results either in a limp attempt that floats straight at the keeper or high and wide, or a more powerful attempt that goes wide. I'll have Giroud completely open 4 yards from the net and he'll send it 5 yards wide.

It takes attacking options away from the final third and makes scoring against deeper defenses quite a bit harder.

I have the feeling that on manual shooting, my players never try to jump. I hardly ever hit the ball with a player´s head, let alone scoring.

Are we back to "manual fixes everything" (which has often been said about PES 2018, and was complete horse manure then)?

I don´t think anyone said that. What was being said was, the game provides a better feeling overall and a bit more freedom and more dynamic.
Specially online, manual vs manual provides a better football experience imho, as you hardly see any ping pong passing.
Ball feels more loose and you have to think about every pass before pulling it off.
Manual doesn´t fix the game at all, makes it a lot more playable imo though.

PA1 and basic shooting should work properly and I´d really use PA1 if it wasn´t so damn accurate.

If people don´t wanna play on manual, that´s completely acceptable, but I can´t keep myself from trying to encourage people to at least try it.

that s the hard part when u have a player closing down and defending, you simply can t make a cross

I struggled with crossing on PA0 at first, but the best way to treat it is as if you're doing a standard x pass and try not to overthink things. Aim at the spot you want to go to, press circle, then add a bit of curl as you strike the ball if you want to. I still occasionally hit balls out for goal-kicks, but that's my fault for not pushing the stick correctly. Takes practice, but is so satisfying once you get the hang of it.

And to add. I pre-ordered my copy of 2019 today.

Played a bit of PES 2018 Master Legaue straight after playing the demo and although they may have gone backwards with the way the ai seem to score almost all shots on target in the area, the imrovements they've made everywhere else is enough for me.

The pace of the game, the weight of the players, the increased fouls and the removal of the catch-up bug are sufficient for me to get the new game on release day. I think limiting the demo to 5 min games against the ai was a bad idea as it doesn't give a true reflection of a match (and may be giving the impression that there will be certain problems with the full game), but i think full 10 minute matches in the full game will show the game in a much better light.

PA0 "manual" crossing is quite easy if you train just a little. It's also important to never push the stick too much or the cross goes way too far from penalty area.

How do you add a bit of curl superhoop?!
It's all sort of automatic to me, but i aim where i want to cross, press the power bar, then push the left analog stick slightly before they kick the ball and for as long as i want to after to add the curl. I've had some great moments where i've been outside the area, near to one corner of the penalty box and aimed towards the back post, then managed to curl it into the path of an incoming striker. Looks great when you pull it off!

Surely the stick doesn't affect the power of the cross?
Take corners for example. If you push the stick too far left while using circle for power, it will make your cross go wildly out of the box (with lots of curl). Same applies to crosses. But yeah, power is only affected by how long you hold down circle.

Surely the stick doesn't affect the power of the cross?
It affects the curl. If you press the stick too much forward the direction you face the cross will be lower and will be much more difficult to control.

Circle button determines power and height of the cross, but stick can modify it while the ball is still floating.

I see but to me, manual a no go when playing online,it takes too much thinking to pull stuff out

I find it impossible to play someone on PA1 and above when i'm on PA0. I play a friend of mine who used to own PS2 PES and now only plays PES when he visits me a few times a year. When he's on PA1 and i'm on PA0 he beats me every time as no skill is involved in making accurate passes and crosses. If he goes onto PA0, i beat him easily with PA0. I've got him playing PA0 since then as I refuse to use PA1 as i find it boring and we have much closer matches now. I just play as a weaker team to even things up! That's why i hope finding other PA0 players online will be easier this year!

few issues I've uncovered by playing the demo more.
1 - player switching still has issues
2 - player reaction is too slow, hard to make quick moves to beat a defender, but also this is a big problem for defense when you are trying to close out gaps on counter attacks. Some of these counters are indeed created because of the slow defender reactions where the ball is tapped away from them while trying to pass it away.
3 - players are still dumb, this again is noticeable on defense where they will not stay with the offensive player rather get stuck in the middle of no where allowing easy 1/2 attacks. Again, this is partially due to bad player switching and slow reaction.

Btw,

I can´t connect to KONAMI Servers with the PS4 demo.
On Steam it works. Anyone else having that problem?
Getting an error code TH22----something.
Didn´t find anything on google about this.

this is awesome... can someone tell me if you have to pull the trigger down or something for this shot, or is it just briliant animation in game?
Very nice shooting animation! It looks so powerful and perfectly suited for that kind of situation.
The player is coming in not directly straight in line to the goal but a little from above. So this little step, and still a little to the side when hitting the ball, results in this animation, imo.
That’s an example of what potential this game offers if you get off your “mind rails” while playing.
Me too, I most certainly whould have struck this one in perfect line to the goal with the same animation we all saw x times. Because of mind memory. The basics are stuck in our head and to dominant. ;)

Very much enjoying the demo. First time in a long time I've been pleasantly surprised by PES.
I feel freedom in movement, I no longer feel locked into two directions when chasing through passes, I absolutely love dribbling and beating players one on one, I like body feints with small flicks of the left stick, I think the shooting and crossing animations are mostly brilliant. I don't see much, if any, foot sliding. I think players having to adjusting their entire bodies when they change directions while sprinting is fantastic.

There are still some niggles that bother me, I dislike the 1/2 frame passing animations that happen every now and then, maybe the power bar fills up too quickly, but it's very much a game that impresses me.

In 2014 we had proper animations, but really wonky physics and huge input lag, along with outright broken AI systems and a severe lack of content, Konami decided to go back to arcade for the next few years with regards to their animation system and I sort of gave up hope of ever seeing a football game that was for me, but this year is brilliant. It's a really good mix of 2014's animation priority and attention to detail along with actual control over your actions.

It's not perfect, by any means, but I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. I hope they continue to build on this game for the foreseeable future, it can only get better than it already is. I just hope they don't ditch this base and go in a different direction.

Exactly 100% my thoughts, mate!
Sliding exists when player changes its center of gravity in order to change direction.
In pes 2014 he put his feet on the ground to give that change.
From Pes 2015 till today, this is done by moving the model from one state to the other, with no animation, something like a "hop" without feet.
