Not sure i'll ever get tired of the jiggle boob net physics :BOP:

On superstar score a goal is very hard. Ai defenders follow the calls, theyre well positioned, AI does a great job at defending. But in attack its very bad, they manage to keep the ball, makes some good passes in midfield and when they get in the final third they start acting strange. Going backwards, searching to cross the ball at all costs, never try to dribble, to go straight forward, thats the big AI issue this year i think and thats why i have also too many games with zero shots from AI

This has been the case for a number of years. The AI are decent at defending buy absolutely terrible going foward.

Personally, I would rather a 'cheating' AI than the current mess. Hopefully the unlockable difficulty is still available and presents a challenge.

My review of the demo so far.

Platform: PS4 Pro
Time spent on demo: Roughly 6 hours
Most Played mode: Exhibition
Difficulty: Top Player

Before I start I'll just say I used to be a PES player from PES 2 through to PES 6. I didn't own a football game until FIFA 16 and have since had FIFA 17 and 18. I have only recently bought PES 2018 as it was cheap as chips.

Graphics: Stunning on the PS4 Pro,the HDR actually seems to add something to the presentation. I have tried all time and weather settings, all look great.

Menus are a slight improvement but still are very basic having recently been a FIFA player.

Replays are a mess, why are they 30 FPS?

Sound: The menu 'thuds' are nice and seem less arcadey than previous menu sounds. Music is fine, I'll disable it anyway and play my own music.

In-game sound effects are good for the on pitch action. Occasionally the crowd sounds really good but on others such as just after a goal has been scored, an offside called or even half team it just sounds awkward. Cheers seem to die off very quickly after a goal. I want to hear the fans going crazy!

Camera & controls: controls are easy to customise for any FIFA converts out there and the game is easy to pick up and play. Set pieces seem to be intuitive and corners feel a little more under control but I'm yet to master them.

The camera choices are vast and yet still I can't find the perfect angle and elevation. The slides need another few clickw each for me.

Online: I have had a good, lag free experience so far from a total of six games. The connection can be faulted and I usually don't fair to well with my rural broadband! The matchmaking seems to be roughly fair so far, I play PA1 and I don't feel I've been up against PA3 players yet.

Gameplay: Wow. I feel like much younger version of myself once again pulling apart the PlayStation magazine for a PES demo. Although the game is obviously very different from the good old PS2 days it has the same 'solid' feel to it.

The game flows nicely and the pace is just right for me on default, maybe -1 with better teams. Passing and shooting has a great feel to it and long cross field balls are great.

Passing assist 1. It is spot on for me as I like a little assistance but I still see a pass accuracy of 80% or so and of I want to pass into space or try something fancy I'll use the manual pass.

Fouls seem to be a gripe for some. I seem to get about 2 or 3 per 5 Min match which is fine for me. Once you factor in your own fouls, offsides, throw ins, corner kicks and goal kicks the game stops and starts plenty. No more fouls required.

What I don't like: The AI run the ball out of play alot or take heavy touches leading to uneccessary corners.

5 minute matches are ridiculous, why did they do that?

As with all demos, why no commentary? The games feel a little empty without it.

Well are you ready for some facts?
I played an offline match vs CPU.
Liverpool (me) VS Milan (cpu)
10 minutes match (thanks to sider), professional difficulty.
I will list the distance dribbled stat for each player, after full time.
Distance dribbled is the stat that shows how many meter a player traveled with the ball in his possesion.
Are you ready?

LIVERPOOL (ME)
Van Dijk: 32 m
Lovren: 7.4 m
Robertson: 5 m
Arnold: 72 m
Henderson: 63.2 m
Champerlain: 100.8 m
Milner: 39.2 m
Mane: 45.2 m
Salah: 61.9 m
Firminio: 53.4 m

Total: 480.1 m
AVerage ( 10 players): 48 m /player

MILAN (CPU):
Romagnoli: 2.6 m
Bonucci: 4.1 m
Calabria: 9 m
Rodriguez: 38.9 m
Biglia: 0 m (!)
Kessie: 0.8 m (!)
Bonaventura: 0 m !
Calhanoglu: 16.9 m
Suso: 93.7 m
Kalinic: 16.4 m

Total: 182.4 m
Average ( 10 players): 18 m/player

What is the conclusion?
Cpu loves to pass, and does not run or walk with the ball.
- 3 midfield players of Milan had ZERO distance traveled with the ball.
- 6 out of 10 players had traveled less than 10 meters with the ball.

Something doesn't look right, huh?
A reminder: 10 minute match!not 5!
(i have screenshots for those who do not believe)

EDIT: This is a general issue. I played 10 matches vs different teams, and the average dribble distance/player was between 13 and 18 meters. Way to low.
CPU almost every time has the double number of passes compared to me.

Absolutely fantastic analysis, well done. Some really good stuff.

What does it look like on Superstar, I wonder.

Demo Impressions:

Plus points

Graphics Excellent
Weight of players is really good for me personally
Individual player ID good
Player models I like
Passing on PA1 better than before without a doubt.

Negatives

One two's still Terrible online which opens your defence everytime.
Shooting is two laser like in the box literally a goal everytime .

Keepers

But my biggest gripe is the terrible keepers the same soft slide rule goals.
Shots going thought them when close or parried into the net
Bad positioning
Unrealistic dives
So many one on ones end in a goal
Konami made a big deal of keepers in the last few years to me they seem automated
not an individual player like the other 20 players on the pitch. They feel to me so
disengaged.

Overall summary

Really enjoy the game until I get to the box or am being attacked in the penalty area. I have seen so Many of the same goals and frustrating situations Konami do not acknowledge. How many years feedback do we need to give.

The amount of keeper mistakes is not realistic, yes they do happen in real life but in a premiership round of 10 games with 20 goalkeepers maybe 2/3 mistakes in the whole 10 games. Konami have a mistake by a keeper each game and it's a lottery whether it's you or your opponent who gets that lottery ticket .

One two's again unlock your defence every time this has plagued online for years.

Also still there is when a sequence of play results in a player being out of position and you see the player just stop dead leaving the player controlling the ball having a 6 yard headstart because the animation system doesn't allow contextual movement.

Should do more tests with different teams and level of difficulty and post them to Adam Bhatti on twitter, if you think there is something wrong it's better than putting on here where probably they won't even look at it.

Man , I've been enjoying this demo, such small tweaks make the game so much more enjoyable vs '18 for me which I hated. I'm just hoping they don't mess it up on release. Now I'm looking forward to this release

What's up with colo colo, I find them harder to break down than any other team.

I did have one instance the AI had a clear chance all by himself against the keeper and decided to pass it backwards.

This might sound really stupid but a few hours after playing what I thought was a slow game that favors slow build-up, it felt fast now and more end to end. It feels like PES2018 now, not closer to PES2015 as I've mentioned earlier.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm fully adjusted to the game already. I'm missing less passes now, I just put more power in to it.
Earlier today and yesterday, I'm struggling with my passes. Felt it doesn't have enough power, the ball felt heavy which results in being intercepted or the defense able to more pressure on my receiver. That's why I thought passes are less predictable. I'm also seeing more gaps now. More easy 1-2s and long passes.

As for player's weight, it now feels a lot like PES2018 also.
I can't unsee it. Tried gamespeed to -1, still felt fast to me.

How can my perception of the game turned to something different so quickly?

The same reason everyone comes away from the preview events raving about the game being incredible. Because once certain gameplay elements become normal to you (i.e. the pace), you start getting better, playing faster, and then the not-so-great stuff comes to the fore.

Sorry what did I just play? Is this supposed to be the beautiful game in 2018? What the heck of Konami done in a year?

The ball is slow moving and bouncy, theres gaps all over the pitch because players don't intelligently track the play, the keeper animations - well half of them are still there from the last four years! yes the pitch is a bit better, but goodness me, wheres the error on passing, wheres the randomness? The A.I plays the same all the time. Cool Cool was back heel flicking it around my box.

This is not football. This is not sim football. Heck this isn't even entertainment. Its a monstrosity and finally, the final nail for me, I will no longer buy this product.

You can all kid yourselves by telling yourselves this is worthy of your money and how its all fresh and new but i'll give it two months before we are back to square one.

Absolutely dreadful and really disappointed after all the hype.

I don't really like pes 2019 demo, too.
But i feel and think exactly the opossite !
Ball seems to me too fast, and behaves strangely.
The randomness is there, at least more than last year.
There is a lot error in passing compared to PES 18.
I really can not understand the hype, too
Even the graphics...meh, it looks like PES 2012 to me. Nothing special.
I think people confuse detail with realism. Yes the turf is very detailed, but the color, the tint and the texture look ALL WRONG. In addition i get a hovering feeling, like players and ball do not touch the grass.
The things i like are:
-Nets
-More freedom and unpredictability
-Hard CPU
-Shooting

And really, really struggle to see the quality there. The "realism" and why even fifa lovers, praise PES 2019.
Even in graphics... Where? the oversaturated yellowish grain on pitch?
I really look forward for modded turfs and cpk's .

Finally gave this a go and I'm actually suprisingly impressed. It plays a lot better than the videos make it look.

Defending is great, really like how you're penalised for using sprint and rewarded for positioning. There's a real skill gap, and it's a refreshing change from FIFA where mindless pressure is enough.

I enjoyed the slower pace and tactical elements. Off the ball movement feels realistic, and building attacks from the back through midfield seems more viable than route one most of the time.

Obviously passing is too accurate, and the lofted through ball is annoyingly effective. The final third seems really lacking in that regard, there's too much space so just passing into feet and direct dribbling is enough to create chances. I haven't seen any truely creative or subtle plays yet. Almost every goal has been a run into space or defensive error.

The physicality is also lacking. Maybe it's more evident as you get more familiar with the game, but targetmen seem obsolete which is a shame. That's one aspect FIFA excels at, being able to shield or brute force an opening with a strong but limited striker.

Shooting is appalling. I just don't understand how it can be so behind PES 6 which was now 12 (!?) years ago. This is a big sticking point for me as it makes scoring feel really hollow, as per the old FIFA games used it. I don't know if it's the animations or physics but it just feels strangely dettached. Like the players are digging the ball from behind their feet.

Overall - I think it's a solid 7/10 and reckon I might pick it up on release day. I still think FIFA will probably be the better game, but PES definitely has the upper hand in some aspects.

It's so confusing to read all those positive and negative comments, so opposing opinions.

I can't understand why people say keepers have no new animations? I see so many new animation from them. Or to say the cpu plays the same way, only attacks from the wings. It really a mystery to me how people can say that. I say this here in the 2018 thread. Sometimes i think the way you play, the way you move, to press square for pressing with one or two players, yourself press x all the time because you hate to run after somebody without getting the ball, holding r1 all the time maybe because its 5 minutes, give your teammates not the time to take position in attack... All this and more things are an essential factors to let it be a good game or a bad game, for me a simulation or an arcade Game. This is not an reproach or something like this. Thats only the thing that i've learned from this game since 2015.

Played 3 games but can't enjoy it. I need the old pes back where you could out sprint the defenders and have fun. I played with Salah, Mane and other quick players but can't out pace defenders. It's just pass pass pass. I think I will skip pes this year.

I have complaint a lot about the pacing issue but konami doesn't take it serious I guess. Fifa used to be like this but since fifa 14 15 you can out sprint defenders which is fun instead of getting catched by every defender no matter your head start.

I know the feeling. It has bugged me forever. Fast players need to be faster than they are in the game. I don't care if it becomes unbalanced. Old PES had this and that's one of the reasons why they were so great.
Nowadays it's like... there's a certain "fear" towards some things. Like "oh no, fast players are going to be used to outrun slow ones!"... WELL.... YEAH! LIKE IN REAL LIFE! When you have a great game, a balanced one, where defenders have their own weapons and you can use tactics systems that are deep enough, quick players can be stopped. The problem is, Konami can't make fast players really faster than the rest because they have a broken game, a broken tactics system and a poor balanced game.

If I was in Adam's position and had rapport with the dev team, I'd bring in a box of donuts and say, "What's up lads. Love the game so far. Like many PES players, I love the live broadcast cam, but was just thinking is there anyway we could try it without the bits where it suddenly zooms in on the action. I think the fans would like that more. Otherwise, it's a great camera perspective."

Can't be that hard can it to fix that camera view, surely.

Hi, my name is...

I'm currently having a love-meh relationship with this game.
One day I have erections with it and think this could be a gem.
Then the next day I'm like this is PES 2018 with some tweaks here and there. Not good.
I don't know what to make of it.

The demo overall was a mixed bag for me. Definitely felt better in several areas but still has a few niggles that annoy me. The game looks great and increased Ai aggression is definitely welcome but often the player movement animations appear clunky and too fast at times. I also wish they would get around to fix goal post shadowing in day matches.

Having great fun with the Demo online, couldn't buy a win yesterday ( I put that down to only playing sim mode games and tournaments for the last six months on Pes 2018) , started to get a real feel for the game today and have been winning games for fun, lag/rage cheats are a massive pain in the arse, any games where I went two or three goals up the disconnection was almost inevitable, other than that i'm a happy camper. Konami, please don't chop and change this code too much as it's a grower :SMUG:

not to Bhatti! @officialpes !!

So many differing opinions. It's no wonder Konami and EA essentially bypass the forums and stick their own plans. Can't blame 'em really.

Agree
So far I’ve read it’s too fast
It’s too slow
The AI is great
The AI is shit
The player models are spot on
The players have fat arses
Scoring is great
Scoring is shit
Keepers are great
Keepers are shit
pA01 is the way to go
PA01 is too assisted
The game looks stunning in 4k
4k hdr is shit

How the fuck they meant to make a game that pleases the masses?..

Agree
How the fuck they meant to make a game that pleases the masses?..

they could start by listening

listen - focus and create LESS variables (there are SO many variables in PES now that you just cannot pin down what your loss/win was down to)

listen again. repeat cycle.

instead of listening though, its "here's what we dished out for you. enjoy."

Personally still love what they did this year. The weight, the intertia of players. I have a mega harder time getting through the defences. So many moments where 100% in PES2018 I wouldve come through or a shot would be on goal but defenders are really pro-active in blocking shots and putting their foot out to me. Thats what stood out more now after playing the demo for 30 hours compared to the press tour day. What I also really love is the wind up shot and that you can really shoot in all kinds of ways. Really contextual. In PES2018 if you had all the space and you wanted to shoot early you pressed it like 5 seconds before he reached the ball. And then he first went there, to the ball and THEN took the same old shot animation. Now you can time your button at so many times and so many different outcomes. I even had moments where I just pressed a button before I wanted to because ''I know the player will wait, control it and then shoot it as in PES2018'' But immediately in PES2019 they can do things. Makes it an even more complete game to me, had a high ball on giroud, open on goal. Ball goes up way to high but I press shoot anyway, and he just volleys it anyways but ofcourse because the guy was out of balance he mishits the volley completely. Not like over the goal, but he literally mishits it. I love the feel and flow of the game this year. Scoring a banger and have the ball hit the net gives this way better feeling with the new net physics.

But like on the press tour, this one point still stands for me personally
Freekicks are just TOO EASY and therefore not really rewarding when you score them.

As a PES5/PES6 lover, a PES2008 - PES2014 ''hater''. I'm in awe of the direction it goes and the big leaps it takes. I know some feel like there are ''small'' changes. But thats how I felt for years in the PS3/Xbox 360 era and now I feel exactly the opposite. Really perfect for me, It just clicks for me personally.
