Matter of taste and expectations.
Felt right to me, tbh.
Compared to last year, AI didn´t get away with murder all the time and I can´t remember having a CPU player sent off the last time in PES 2018.

Plus, that´s only one example^^.
Yea, fair enough chief'. You're right, it is a matter of taste and expectations. Must be a challenge to achieve a happy medium with fouls, I suppose. I loved the way it was in PES5, but I can see how that would be become annoying for many.

I was liking PES 2018 because all that is happening was smooth and makes sense. Here almost nothing makes sense.
For me, this game is like a Rollercoaster. There are things that enjoy me very much and at the same time, there are things that make me angry and wonder ... why, why is this happening, that does not make sense!

And yeah! The free kicks are OP as hell...

Free kicks are almost a certain goal with the right angle. There's no punishment for holding the direction you want to curl it, it's just a case of getting the angle & power correct (which is so easy) , pressing shoot and holding left or right.

They need to implement some sort of invisible sweet spot mechanic that has an extremely small window (larger for skilled takers), this should be tied to the direction of curl and players ability.
Added to that should be only one press of the shoot button allowed for the power as currently you can double tap if you drop it short, power bar should also move faster to make it harder & punish you for over hitting by reducing accuracy & adding height.

You just can't fluff or balloon a free kick with this current system. For the most part it either hits the wall or goes in with zero satisfaction.

some critic in here ... this is best pes since pes 05 I serious beleive this

and how game running fast? some saying these comment

please dont change pace konami, this perfect I want stay this way

[sorry for english ... my second language]

just in this department alone... there is so much potential! and when i start thinking of what we had in the past... my guts turn 180!
i remember staying in training mode for hours (not playing one match with the new game for days)! like i try to master a specific track in GTS. hours of hours... first corner in, not good, press start>right>retry! over and over again... my friends say i'm crazy and they cant watch it anymore. :)

same with PES free kicks in the past. i kicked like thousends of them... tried from different angles, different styles... and all this in training mode. i could spent hours, days in it back then... i had to learn so much and was willing to!
and it wasnt like i HAD to do it. i WANTED to. it made me happy... like real life soccer training. i do that for myself. over and over again till i'm good at it.

and then i was loading my first match... eager to put on the pitch what i have trained for hours... what a feeling!!
but i was young these days. might be a teenager thing... ;)

edit: the FK's today look kinda generic. i dont have that feeling of actually doing something to it besides filling the power bar. didnt we had stuff like, balooning, hard wide shot, ballon curved, hard wide shot curved, under the wall, curved under the wall, dipping shot... i could go on! ^^
and dont get me started on people not using R2 fixer for fk's! ^^ is it only me doing that!? :) it never gets old against a friend! :D
cant remeber a human vs. human video where i saw this...

Played online with a cousin. We're close enough that we're matched all the time.
We both play with PA0 but use basic shooting. Trying to convince him to use manual shooting but he's not ready yet, So I'm stucked with basic shooting as well.
The teammates AI doesn't feel regular difficulty. They seem to do a solid job defensively. Shooting doesn't feel OP yet.
GK is still solid.

This game reminds me of PES2015(My fav PES, btw).
The first touch/trapping have something(slowness, I don't know the word) to it that you can still think about your next pass.
Passes have a certain unpredictability to it but still puts you in control. Felt weird(as a PA0 player) but nice at the same time. I'm not sure if I'll still like it in the next few days of playing.
1-2s and long passes doesn't feel OP unlike in PES2018. You can still do it a lot but at right moments.

I like the game a lot. Maybe, because it's the closest thing to PES2015 for me.
Defense and attack seems to be balanced.
The game felt slow but there's still a lot of counter attack chances.

Maybe, in a few days. I'll be able to find out the issues in PVPs.
As long as this game doesn't turn out to be worse than PES2018, I think I'll be satisfied with this game.:D

I'm hoping the devs won't sped this game up on release but I'm pretty sure they will.

why you say devs speed game up? most twitter saying its perfect

from what I see any way.

if pes 2019 release version is faster then ... i despair.

Someone said a lot of people are moaning on twitter that the game felt unresponsive. Maybe, they experienced lag online.
And the devs usually sped up the game on release.

that would be so bad for me

i will have to decrease to -1 if happens but hopefully not

this game very reponsive i dont understand that as a criticism
More bad for me because I mostly play online with a cousin, and there's no way to adjust the game speed.

So what's the plan? buy the game anyway and hope for the best?
Personally? No, I just can't get past the AI. Can't play on less than Superstar (or it ends up like @chiefrocka4real's screenshot where Schalke had zero shots in a 20 minute match). But on Superstar, you see Colo-Colo regularly passing around first-time insta-perfectly.

I just can't get past that - it's great that Adam's responded to that Colo-Colo video of @Ameppe's but there's zero chance they'll make any changes based on that in a patch for this game. To fix this stuff, you need to change PA1 (and therefore how the AI moves and plays) considerably, and it's not a five-minute job. It's a PES 2020 job.

I know I'm a broken record here and I really don't want to sound like I want to shit on everyone's parade, I promise. I'm sorry, and people who love the game, please forgive me here. I will shut up soon. I'm just responding to a question that was directed at me...

maybe [Adam] doesn't see/feel these issues, maybe its a case of once you've seen it you can't unsee but if you are just enjoying the game, until then, ignorance is bliss?
Well here's something to chew on - when I did my PES 2018 video review, which is essentially "look at the AI doing chipped through-balls every match forever" and "when I edited Man City to give every player 40 for every attribute (the minimum possible), nothing changed"...

I sent it to him before making it public, feeling pretty bad about myself to be honest - I like Adam, he's a good guy, and here I was saying "this is broken and not fun". He responded to both things differently. The AI's approach? "That never happens to me. It must be how you play the game." But. The stats-mean-nothing stuff? "That's gold, that's something I can show to the guys and get the point across perfectly, thank you."

Given his response to that Colo-Colo video, I think he accepts that one might be an issue. But in response to you (regarding the AI loving the wingers), he said, play ML and the AI play in different ways now depending on the team. Which I think is missing the point - tactics are incredibly strict, to the point where it's silly, and Superstar difficulty seemingly gives poor teams a boost because they think people who pick Superstar just want to play a hard game, where attributes aren't important - people just want every game to be tough.

why you say devs speed game up? most twitter saying its perfect
Because literally every year for at least five years, they've sped up the game between preview code / beta and the final release. Ask guys like @B-Man.

That was one fucking game

You make me look like, I enjoy this game with a weak AI :P

There's nothing wrong with playing the game how you want to... ;)

It´s all good, mate :).

I´m gonna post more screens...that was really a bad example^^.

:D remember: your shoes color while playing have to match the teams color! ;)

like the discussion above! @Chris Davies so you are not sending in any of those "explaining videos" for this years version?

@chiefrocka4real will you play on pc only or on ps4 too?

Well, I guess I might be that crazy again buying it on PC AND PS4.
PC for modding the shit out of this and enjoying ML and PS4 most likely for online matches.

Not sure yet, if I really will do so.

We were really lucky to get review copies last year, I'm hoping we will again this year but we'll have to wait and see given that those "explaining videos" were essentially me saying "the AI plays like a 10-year-old button spammer"...

They've been great with us though, they don't shirk away from criticism when it's well-evidenced (and without insult) so I'm hopeful. Eager to see if teams in the ML do play with the variety Adam mentions on Twitter.

Played 3 games but can't enjoy it. I need the old pes back where you could out sprint the defenders and have fun. I played with Salah, Mane and other quick players but can't out pace defenders. It's just pass pass pass. I think I will skip pes this year.

I have complaint a lot about the pacing issue but konami doesn't take it serious I guess. Fifa used to be like this but since fifa 14 15 you can out sprint defenders which is fun instead of getting catched by every defender no matter your head start.

I have got to say, what's it going to take to allow us to pick the referee's kit on the pre match settings?

For fuck sake I'm supposed to trust the in game algorithm yet of all the ref colours to choose from, the game still settles on picking green when Barcelona is wearing their lime away kit. Really, that's the best the game can come up with? Not Black or even Yellow if it had to take a risk?

DTA - Don't trust anybody and let the consumer override the game for fucks sake.

Calm down, it's just a video game. :D

Being able to choose the referee kit is another feature which would be simple yet add so much. Don't get why that's never been done. But right now we can't even have more than 1 kit for goalkeepers so can't see this being implemented any time soon.

I feel they could tweak it so faster player stats are more meaningful, but I can understand that it's probably due to balancing the game.

If I was in Adam's position and had rapport with the dev team, I'd bring in a box of donuts and say, "What's up lads. Love the game so far. Like many PES players, I love the live broadcast cam, but was just thinking is there anyway we could try it without the bits where it suddenly zooms in on the action. I think the fans would like that more. Otherwise, it's a great camera perspective."

Can't be that hard can it to fix that camera view, surely.

This demo definitely feels a lot better than PES 18. Moving the player feels less jelly like [even thought its not completely gone, but it's much better]. Graphics during gameplay is good now unlike pes 18 where mow patterns were barely visible with horrible grass texture. I think I will get PES 19, its looking good.

Things that are still bad are cloth physics and the obvious clipping with untucked shirts. If clothes barely bounce, why is there so many clippings? Clipping would be acceptable if clothes actually bounced like it died with Pes 17 and 14.

Same as keepers kit being the same colour as the away teams.
In both games this happens. How does something so simple get overlooked.

You don't need to have exagerated movement in order for clipping to occur, just bits of mesh objects colliding with each other (like a body part moving and the shirt mesh not folding enough and thus making it collide with the underlying mesh) I'm enjoying the Demo so far, specially without being stuck to 5 minute halves (thanks to sider 5.0) Wasn't digging the creepy green shadow bug though. I stopped playing games on Veltins Arena because it was crazy there. Haven't checked with dynamic resolution on though

I know mate, I know but if there's one thing that annoys me more than mechanics in a game it's either poor interface design or a lack of customisation options. I used to hate how on he old PES's you couldn't remove the radar completely. You had an option to make it transparent but why the hell not a third choice to remove it completely??

Choice. CHOICE!

With you on that, stuff like that made me thankful for the modding abilities on PC. One of the first thing I did on PES 6 was to completely remove that radar graphic.

Again, its small things that would really go a long way to improving the user experience.
