PES 2019 Demo Impressions Thread

I'm a decent, but not great, football game player that buys both FIFA and PES every year. My first impressions after about 20 offline games on Professional difficulty:

*I can instantly see that the grass looks better even though I don't have a 4K TV.
*Quick sub is a great addition. I know FIFA added it a year earlier, but PES does it better.
*Crossing accuracy seems to have been toned down a bit.
*To me the game seems a bit more difficult, I used to play 2018 on Top player difficulty, but maybe it's because the demo matches are so short.
*I see that a few of you think that AI fouling has increased. If it has, I think it's a very marginal increase. Again, this could be due to the length of demo matches. Has anyone gotten a penalty yet? If so, how?

Things i still miss:
*Being able to configure button mapping separately for offense and defense. I'd like to have finesse shot on R1 and jockeying on L2, like in FIFA.
*Having a dedicated button for shielding, like in FIFA.

Totally OT but are you coming to Nkpg on monday mate? We need to beat you guys now! ;)
I had plans for it,but my daughter is coming on sunday-wednesday,otherwise I'd be going.
Plus,and it's a bit embarrassing,I'm seeing Thåström that night to(Malmö)
Yeah, you need to step it up after the Sundsvall game, even though They're very underrated at home.
Read that you've sold one of your Def?
I'm quite happy with a draw mate

I love it even more. So easy to keep the ball with Barca against Colo Colo but its difficult and rewarding to break down them! possession 70-30 in the 20 min game. And over time they get tired and the goals come as i just pass around not run around sparing my players for the last minute . 3 goals at least in every game.

im having a blast with this demo! after 11 years finally

Good to hear.
Really like how the variety of shooting has improved in this one, the last few PES's have been very one dimensional in this respect.
Just can't hack the five minute games atm

lets say I play pes 2019 using a wireless controller on PC and I need to take a poo because I spent the past 5 hour micromanaging MyClub so I can play one game.
poo takes longer than expected so by the time I get back controller has disconnected.
i cannot reconnect the controller. i have to restart the game.

same thing happened in PES 2018 and I think i read other people having same problem on some steam PES 2018 forums.
You can reconnect an Xbox one controller. PS4 controller is a no go like you say.

But you did that with L2 modifier, that is totally manual, no stats influence whatsoever.
Which shouldn't be the case... Manual controls and stat influence do not have to be mutually exclusive. Being able to play these incisive long manual passes just as perfectly with either foot is a joke... Poor gameplay fundamentals.

Thåström, nice! Yeah we have to get three points now so it will be a difficult game for us since you can sit back a bit and take your chances.

Yup, but we got a new danish defender from Groningen last week.

Enjoy the show pal!

Thanx mate, best of luck on Monday.
Ps we're shit when sitting back:)
It's 100 kmh or nothing, probably a good game to watch

Play with passing assistance set to off, it's both almost manual but also takes in consideration stats.

That may be the case, but still not relevant to the criticism I had. There should never be a mechanic in the game to completely override player footedness/attributes, it's just poor design for a football game.

Playing against randoms online, PA1 combined with the occasional manual modifier pass seems the best way to remain somewhat competitive (unless you are an expert on PA0/manual). The passes with that modifier can be satisfying to pull off but it's really ugly and jarring that you never even have to worry about what player is on the ball or what foot...

That pass I giffed should almost never be possible. It should fail 99/100 even with perfect inputs...

Re: match screen settings - I've been playing with everything off except for radar and score/time and it looks unbelievable and feels quite a different game not having a cursor above your head. I guess it's only possible as I'm playing fixed-cursor as Salah (and then Lallana when he's is knackered.)

As with 2018 the most success I get from dribbling is mainly from using the AI's momentum against them with a quick change of direction, with a double tap of R1 behind them or by slowing down then bursting away. I sometimes use just a flick of right stick 90 degrees to do a body feint and then a change of direction but really that's just for looks! "Cut behind and turn" is a crucial player-card for me too for a quick 180 degree turn.

i got one today

my thoughts are, shooting still very assisted and automated on pa1 especially from inside the box, the game basically decides where to place the ball and not you, in fifa you don t feel the automated feeling due to other implementation that let s you direct the shot...

Tried 4 games at lunch, 3 times against Barcelona (surprise), 1 against Schalke.

In every game, the opponent pushed the DM(S) into defence, making a 5-6-man wall, and pushed the three up-front to form a straight line along the half-way line. Sometimes there was just one in the middle.

I think @robbieryan showed a screenshot where a similar thing was happening, and I think it was @klashman69 who said "set up your tactics to counter it then, it's like real football".

Dude. If a real-life team set up like that, you wouldn't have to change your formation. They'd get annihilated. But because passing accuracy is so good (PA1 or above), you'll always be able to pass to someone perfectly (there are no such things as loose balls in this game, the ball is not a separate entity), as long as there isn't an opponent so close to him that your aim will automatically direct to that opponent instead.

Call it what you want, call it fun if you think it's fun, but it is nothing close to football.

At least remove the ability to edit your formation online. (I think it's locked in myClub isn't it? But it shouldn't be allowed at all. Not when you can exploit it so incredibly, childishly fucking easily. It shows just how basic the game is.)
i do agree a lot with you

I've been seeing these frustrating things in the game for years now.
If I pingpong these things rarely happen, but because I don't want to play that arcade way I'm seeing these things happen 5-6 times a match (5mins)
Is this happening to others on a regular basis? Cpu interference, back to back auto tackles, unresponsive players etc.

I'm also still seeing my players go into 'slow motion' animations to let a tackle or block come in from the AI. Been ingame for years too.
I could post tons more clips, but I'm not sure it's constructive lol

Ps. Is anyone having luck with headers? Unless I'm unopposed, I either bump off the defender and nobody wins the ball, or my player refuses to jump for it. Happens in all areas of the pitch.

I've scored a couple of headers. They're all loopy though rather than any real power behind them. Don't know if that's caused by my timing or the game though.

I'm having similar problems to you with defensive headers. Sometimes I get the defender in front of the attacker, go to jump and he just stands there instead and there's a collision as the attacker goes for it.

I had a major problem defending headers from corners online, when guys use that player select. Didn't matter how well I marked them, I couldn't get my players to jump for some reason.

Another of those wrong foot manual passes... Santon's left foot this time.

The pass from Brozovic to Santon was also from the wrong foot... Except for shooting, the foot used hardly seems to matter. Massive part of football almost entirely missing from the game.

Most of that can be avoided if you wouldnt want to just go forward. The cpu when couldnt trap the high ball from the lover team. Thats just nice.
When Kante got thrown to the ground by the big guy...well that little sucka had it coming!!! :D Hes always harassing my players along with Pogba.

This is where the stats should be coming into play for me. Some people in the thread seem to be asking for a game where CB's or lower division players can never play accurate long passes which is just as ridiculous as the situation we see in that video. They're still professional footballers, not pub team footballers.

The best thing for me would be different odds of pulling that sort of pass off depending on the players and their stats. So you might have an 85% chance of pulling it off with say Modric but only a 30% chance of pulling it off with a CB with poor passing stats. This would take away from it being 100% manual as you could play the pass perfect and the player still mess it up, but giving up a bit of control is the only way to incorporate the stats as far as I can see.

Man,I haven't even DL it yet, sadly,I'm always a go getter for a new title, but not yet, gonna give a go tmw.
Playing way to many other games.
How did you find it?

Marked improvement on PES 18. Better shooting, and dribbling. Not without its issues as many have discussed in this forum. Went back to PES 18 as can't stand the 5 minute games. You do notice less variety when going back to PES 18. If you enjoyed it, you'll like this.
