PES 2019 Demo Impressions Thread

Noticed this as well (kinda hard to miss when it flashes the tactics at the start of the game!). Played a few coach vs coach matches without the attack down the wings option on and seemed fine to me.
Also looks like the 'hug the touchline' advanced instruction is on for a few teams as well which goes hand in hand with the whole 'attack focus: wings' rather than middle etc.

Thirdly the fact that almost everyone seems to be playing on superstar right out of the box. Surely a new version of a game should be more difficult initially? If you can just jump in at the top level and compete where's the longevity of the game going to come from?

This makes no sense, the game would be impossible on all difficulties by now if that was the case. Ill start on professional and progress from there. If they made that harder each year id have to start at beginner eventually and probably struggle there too.

This is all Exhibition mode though. Who knows how will the teams play in Master League when script is enabled. I already saw something with Colo Colo attacking behaviour that doesn't feel good to me.

I mean, look at the goal they scored me, Superstar difficulty. That is totally unrealistic and something i wish they completely erased from the game.

-Passing error and first touch error is again absent : you and the AI can make perfect trough balls, ping pong passing even with not so good players. There is more passing errors but its not well balanced. You should have a great amount of errors when you try high risks passes: trough balls, one touch passes, etc... And you should see some bad first touch especially from poor players, they cant' always perfectly control the ball in less than a second, not everyone is luka Modric. :)

Played some more games and I agree. It's something that bothers me to no end.. I don't know if it's just the demo, but I'm seeing less FTE even than 2018 somehow. I seriously don't know where people even from E3 and the such saw defenders and less technical players having problems with controlling the ball.. it all feels the same. I still have to see a defender failing to trap the ball from a cross.. and I mean by a stop, not when the game triggers the clearance animation.

I mean the game took some nice steps in the right direction with the body shielding, the ball physics and the weight of the players, and generally I must say it feels more like a real game of football than Pes 2018. But unless they'll sort out those kind of basic problems like FTE, keepers and individuality, I don't think I could bring myself to enjoy this game.

Hope they'll finally decide for sliders in the next years, maybe with the new engine if it's impossible with this one.

I get what you're saying but isn't that part of the challenge though? What level does it matter that you play on as long as it's a challenge to you? If you are beating it on the hardest level straight away it will quickly become stale surely, that's my point?

That's PES 2018 & PES 2019 in a nutshell, for me.

When the AI plays like that no matter the team or player stats - and online is like that x1,000,000 - what's left? Couch play with friends? But every PES is great against friends. It's just not football.

The positive is that's the only situation that i saw in my hundred matches against CPU, but that really shouldn't be allowed at all, because like i said, if even Exhibition mode has AI attacking like this, what will happen in Master League where CPU players stats are often overriden when the script kicks in?

I'm conceding the majority of my goals Vs the A.i like this, always from a low cross/pass in to the box, absolutely nothing you can do about it either.

All they need is to push those who are thrashing the hardest difficulty, everyone else is ok as they can select the next difficulty up.

For the best players, reducing pass assist or going full manual is an option, as is changing the form arrows to disadvantage yourself. You could also use weaker teams, play harder teams or play online. None of which are ideal I guess...

Making the AI more challenging just ends up with the AI cheating as the opponents stats needs to be boosted up, passes and shots become perfect and then there is always the possibility that the ability of your own team gets squashed to make it harder still. Maybe even less ideal... Accusations of scripting will be made because that is exactly what AI must do to try and win against such a good human opponent.

For those at the very top, they are perhaps best challenged online against other great players. Luckily for me I have none of these issues as professional offers a good challenge for me on PA1.

My mate is coming over today and we will play the demo 1 V 1 and I know we'll have a blast.
But he cant come over everytime I want to play PES!
PES is always great with another human but not so with the AI and definitely not when online!

Because most teams have be set tactically to attack down the wings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most teams have really poor setups as usual from Konami.

I'm excited about setting these teams up properly when the full game hits!!!!

So there is a workaround potentially, but it's a bit of a fudge/excuse for poor programming and tactical rigidity which is a core problem in PES. The fact attack down flanks is enabled shouldn't mean they *only ever attack down the flanks*.

Guys are youll feeding the ai and goal keeper not comong off his line issues to the offical pes account
Played some more games and as much as I enjoy it, I'm not sure I can get past how awful the AI are both tactically and offensively. The mindless wingplay is a killer. Also the keepers not moving off their line is infuriating. These two things are ruining it for me

This only attacking down the flanks is game breaking surely? How did none of the "playtesters" not pick up on this. :CONFUSE: It reminds me of PES 2016 "low shot into the corner", and it went the whole year without them fixing it so I'm not very hopeful that they will fix this before 2019.

There's something mechanically about this demo that I like and haven't felt in a PES game for a long time. The ball physics, dribbling, the passing -- the feel of it, the way it looks on screen; the pace of the game, the way you can slow the game down to a crawl...
Let's hope they don't alter any of what you mentioned as that's my biggest fear (that they'll cater to the casual crowd and speed everything up). A few A.i tweaks and it could be a classic.

Call me crazy but the mrs went to the gym this morning so I fired up the demo again.
My love hate relationship with this game continues. Had 3 great games as ARG V FRA. (After saying I was done with this game yesterday!)
Really enjoyed it and played around with the tactics a bit more.
Im just gonna keep going back to the demo and see if I enjoy it as much as I did this morning.
Scored a great goal with Salvio, went passed 3 defenders and put ball in top corner. Lovely.
There are still a few gripes like Cursor switching - seems a bit unresponsive at times. Also seeing impossible back heels coming off. I scored a flicked up back heel yesterday that left me so annoyed as I didnt meant to do it. I flicked ball up to lay it off but the player done this over powered back heel into the net. Looked crap.
Also not sure if its me or if its the demo but the AI seem to be programmed to create a chance after about 15 seconds of each half. Lots of early goals (as only short halfs?)
Konami definitely want goals goals goals as defence does seem to be all over the place at times.
In the 3 games saw one odd bit of play from AI - Mbappe was through and kind of stopped, then went back a step and then carried on. Looked odd.
Im enjoying it a lot more today than I did yesterday so until I have hammered this Ill not say anything else.
PS - Game looks stunning in 4K - Best looking game yet.
i don t think so as it is hard for me to score in the 5 games i played til now, i have yet to have other than 2-1 scores

The AI is, in my opinion, absolutely horrible. It's the least "organic" thing about the game.

The mistakes it makes - the offsides, the fouls - are sometimes absolutely blatantly the AI going "MUST MAKE ERROR NOW TO STOP HUMAN GETTING MAD ABOUT HOW PERFECT I AM". You don't have to draw a foul out of them.

Coding AI is hard - because if you didn't put restrictions into it, if you didn't try to make it "human" and force it to take longer to make decisions - the AI would literally win 40-0 every game because it knows what your players are going to do (it controls them FFS), where the spaces are, how much power to apply to every shot.

So you have to add "barriers", if you like, to try and make it seem more human. But Konami's approach is terrible, in my opinion - and on top of that, you've got the tactics, which are so strict that it's absolutely ludicrous, and the "player styles", which are even worse. Combine all three and you've got a nightmare.

If the AI goes to a deep defensive line, you can walk forwards towards them with the ball and NEVER be pressed (see @embraceuk1's videos). Tactics are so strict they must do nothing else (pass to wingers = MUST ALWAYS PASS TO WINGERS NO MATTER WHAT), and goalkeepers set to "defensive goalkeeper" are scared to move.

But to go back to the AI's general play (on Superstar) - they'll hit five perfect first-time passes to feet, then run the ball out of play with nobody near them. You can give them an empty half to run into and they'll ping a first-time pass back to the DM instead. You'll clear a corner and they'll instantly head the ball back, straight to a striker (surrounded by defenders) with laser accuracy - no need for them to chest the ball and look for a man who's actually free to pass to. Then the striker will run straight into your defender.

Their attempt at adding "human error" to the AI's play equates to doing a stupid thing once every 5-6 passes.

There's no midfield build-up play while it tries to "figure you out" like a human, or anything like that - stuff that would actually make the AI feel like it's having to "work you out" or that it's having to work hard to score.

You can see it as clear as day when you give the AI an empty half to run into and score, and they almost "panic" and pass back into a congested area, for fear of looking too "cheaty".

TL:dr; the AI just doesn't understand what football is.
In my opinion. (Obviously.)

(The above situations have happened to me a LOT when playing the demo - and for those who talk about this stuff and say they're "bugs"... It's release code, from what we're all hearing from the guys who've visited the events, unless a day one patch comes along - but since when have Konami changed gameplay with a patch. All the talk of a "fouls" patch for PES 2018, and when it was released, there was zero difference.)
Absolutely spot on on all counts

my first verdict after two pes2019 nights:

the game is brilliant when you have the ball but god-awful when defending. you have less control over your defenders compared to pes2018 and that's a real deal breaker for me.

hopefully they try to balance it for the full game...

No.
I downloaded the demo. Ran it. First match, I selected Argentina VS France at Veltins Arena in Day/Fine.
First thing is noticed is that glitch. I tried changing cameras but it was still there (except in Blimp camera, obviously). So I quit the match. Selected the same teams, same options, then went into Settings>Render Settings and set it all to HIGH, and went back to play the match. The glitch is still there.

It's like the Stadium's shadow is out of place and follows the camera. I didn't try other stadiums.
At that point I just quit the game.

Another reason for me to hate this whole PES season. Since it was announced with that trailer. It's been the worst experience with PES for me since 2014, and I really hated that one.[/QUO

Hope there is a day one patch
Doubt its gonna change much .I hope they do fix these glaring issues highlighted tho .However looking at all the comments on twitter about people raving about the game ,i doubt they are gonna change anything ..

Some impressions after spending about 3 hours on PES2019 (PS4, full manual), especially in context to the major flaws PES2018 had - because football games these days generally fail to deliver what should be possible in this time and age:

Positioning:

Visible improvments to AI aggression, you finally get closed down after winning the ball in your own third. Remarkable that some teams stop it after they take the lead and beruy themselves in their own half. On the other hand, this CPU pressing seems to widen gaps in midfield, as man marking is not really that tight as i would wish. Sliders desperatly needed!

AI:

Best of all, the attack angle of CPU defenders seems to be more refined, it is very risky now going past them with just an easy Robben-like 90 degree direction cut. Generally defenders seem to be more aware to the sitation and try to intercept early, even if that means a foul.

I am not sure now about the offensive AI, sometimes i miss the clinical punishment of PES2018 when i leave spaces open. Variety in play is visible, but they seem to have preference for ground passes into the box to score. Will be interesting what they will do if you consequently get it crowded. Didn´t see a long ranger so far.

General:

- Game speed is quite the same as PES2018 to me. It feels a little more hectic due to the enduring CPU pressing instead of clever man marking.

- More organic feel due to refined physics resulting in a better fluidity

- Gameplay cam seems to be a little bit more zoomed out on max setting, at least players appear smaller than they did in PES2018

-traces of injuries are visible

- Didn´t find any replicable exploits or other things completely beyond logic. I managed to go with Handanovic to the opponent box once, but the next times the trip ended at my own one.

All positives so far, but my biggest letdown is one thing i see most consensus in here: Graphics.
On my Full HD TV the pitch looked shockingly grainy until i did massive corrections in brightness/contrast options and toned down sharpness on my tv massively. Even if it is somewhat acceptable now, it still looks very overdetailed and unnaturally structured, not like a TV broadcast at all. PES2018 did a better job on that, although the colour palette itself is nice now.

How do you want superstar to be like ? what should be the differences with top player. Elaborate pls ?

In my opinion, judging from your videos is that the passing stats that does not seem really matter and that stupid backheel ouput.

Haven't tried online yet but I assume it's 5mins too? This is the one thing that's frustrating me about the demo than anything is the length, bloody farcical. Your allowance is like 1 decent attack each half then playtime is up and then wait another 5 minutes to load another match.

My play styles isn't really rushy rushy and I want to experiment with different build up and passing styles, I want to savour this shit but the tight arse demo won't allow me too!

Like an sexually unsatisfied house wife.

for those who make videos of skills and goals, you will suffer much this year, right gear is useless, and the strangest thing that konami anounced that they added 12 skills LOL, if you want to apply any skills the AI will take the ball, they don't take any reactioin of your feint, and it is not like human being reaction at all, even if you apply fake shot, they will go toward you as if you did nothing, you can't pass any defender, you should apply a huge bunch of ping pong passes to score, people are now amazed by graphics and animation, and when they will start playing master league you will see the complains, pes 2019 is pes 17 with new graphic but people always forget,
