PES 2019 Demo Impressions Thread

I really liked the few first game I played on PC with manual settings and superstar cpu. The AI feels way more human than in previous years and way less robotic in its approach, this is very much welcomed. Players and ball movements feels free (no more rails) , player reactions are good. Everything feels also more contextual from passing to shooting passing by defending. Timing seems to matter much more also. There is still may be too much free space at the heart of the midfield, where it actually matters , but because players reactions are better than last year it feels less wide open.

So far I am pleasantly surprised by the few too short games I have played. Make me wanna play it more which was not the case of all 18 versions bar the beta.

Honestly I don't feel like pouring $59.99 for this game, based on the demo. Lite version would certainly do.

There's something about the dribbling I dislike, feels way too heavy. I probably suck but I cannot get past defenders since they'll always perfect-tackle me.

So, do we think that the keeper staying on his line for 1 on 1's is a bug or done on purpose?

I get that they shouldn't just sprint out but standing like a statue on their 6 yard box when you're running straight at them just isn't right.

Why is there always something glaringly wrong? Most games would get proper patches to fix issues like this. I don't have any hope with konami's track record

Same with me. Dribbling isn't as tight as previous years, so I'm trying to adjust. (not a bad thing at all imo)
My problem is that if I try to take more than 1 touch I'm just getting barged off the ball easily by a gang of defenders. Most of my attacks fizzle out pretty quick if I don't string 4 or 5 pingpong passes together to find space. I don't like playing that way.

Second night of playing and I'm not as impressed.

Does anyone else think it feels really clunky sometimes? Animations take an age to finish and can look quite janky & jarring on occasion, much more so than last year.

CPU A.i is starting to bug me, they score the same goals over & over.....low cross/pass in to the box then smashed in the top corner from close range. I don't think I've seen them take a pop from outside the box in 30 odd games?

agree with the lack of long range shots from AI. everything else is spot on(shooting and fks need improvement). this is a PES like game very much. i hope we dont go back to the arcade fest

It's amazing to read how different people's perceptions of the demo are, just something as simple as game speed!

Then there's stuff like physicality and fouls by the AI. While people of course have different preferences on the amount of that, it's certainly my experience that physicality and fouls has been increased since PES 2018. Stuff like this I hardly ever saw in last years game, but in the demo I get it regularly:

Also, for the first time in years, I actually can enjoy playing on PA1. There's still loads to improve, mainly making player stats and contextuality matter (more), but somehow it feels much better than at least 2016, 2017 and 2018.

I've just had 3 hours of couch PES with my friends. We are buying it pretty much now. One of us is buying both, PC and PS4 because its simply outstanding game, i wont do an essey about pros and cons but its fun to play, best PES so far.

Yeah i experienced same issue when my resolution was set to 3840 x 2160 in nvidia control panel however when i switched back to 1920 x 1080 it fixed/resolved the issue

Played as Inter online (online is just like offline, although not easy to find an opp), and i slowed down all my build ups and covered all the spaces when the opp attacked. It wasnt fast, people they do tend to play it fast.

Did a bunch of friendlies. Some random thoughts:

-Graphic is indeed outstanding.
-A surprising good number of fouls indeed. If they don't screw it up (brace for it), I'm sure there will be many in the final game, or at the very least a decent amount.
-Shielding the ball seems now as a fun and more interactive task, both when you trigger it automatically, both when you play L2 during a contact with the cpu.. it's practically a second body shield, try it if you haven't. Makes the game way more physical
-Moves and feels better than 2018.
-Cpu plays a more varied and human football and tactics seems to work better this year.

Now the things I didn't like much..

-I expected WAY more from first touch error. While it's true that stopping the ball is now more varied, since players use many more ways/body parts, I still got away from even powerful low crosses with stopping the ball and coming out the box ball in the feet without much problems. Not good to me so far.
-I still have to decide if stats are more meaningful than 2018. Only player with which I feel like I can burst past defenders was Manè from Liverpool. Not impressed by the rest, so far.
-Keepers are better than 2018 in their goal.. but they are indeed tragically glued to the line. If I'm not wrong, it seems they even removed the offensive goalkeeper card. They have all those ones for the goal throw and (if I didn't somehow noticed it) they took away that one. Sad.
-Still too space in the midfield very often, but we kinda knew it.

Generally I'm not really impressed.. the game was more or less as I expected to be. As the E3 and subsequent videos suggested, if you liked 2018 you'll probably love this one. I personally certainly WON'T pick it day one if at all.

There is variation in how we all play and how we are going to play.
E.g. someone who is flexible may have played PA1 in PES 2018 and now wants to try PA0 and game feels great
E.g. someone played PES 2018 alone but now all their mates are into the demo, its a must-buy.
E.g. someone played PES 2018 and got bored after 2months. They try PES 2019 and its all sweet again.

My philosophy is that if the majority stick with PES 2018/don't touch PES 2019, then in PES 2020 we'll get a BETTER game. Otherwise, it'll be £45 for a yearly roster change from now on til next gen consoles arrive.

On PC 1440p resolution, I'm not impressed with the graphics at all.
I don't have a 4k monitor with an HDR..
but how much can a higher resolution and better contrast/color accuracy can improve the visuals in PES?

The gameplay turf doesn't look impressive(*edited), but it's okay. I'm very sure it's very difficult to make turf believable in games.
I believe if you put the turf you see on TV/youtube(real football matches) in PES, it will still look fake. The turf on TV just looks real because we know it real.
That's why PES turf(and graphics in general) looks better when you're watching it on video recording than directly looking at it on your monitor. It does looks real, at times. How many times have we've seen PES screenshots compared to real-life and we're impressed?

That's why I always thought FIFA's graphics is far superior.
The lighting, likenesses and colors is looks more accurate in PES than FIFA... but FIFA's graphics looks advanced/high-end.
Don't like FIFA by the way, just the graphics.

Don't have the time to test the gameplay yet. I just finished setting up my custom NESA camera:PP.

Nesa camera? Are you serious?

This game vs human is magic. But against AI it’s very repetitive and isn’t as exciting.

Its more PES18.5 , slower tiki taka from the cpu but still the same passing from cpu teams, there is improvement my teams passing doesn't feel on rails and passes aren't cut out as much as in 18 but sometimes still there, the more I play the more I see 18 as if they have over laid it with some improvement but not a full one.

PS Is anyone getting the same when you come out of the demo , you have to tick the boxes the legal stuff to get back in? I get back in ok but I do get 1/2 screens saying not connected to online.
