PES 2019 Demo Impressions Thread

Just managed to play a few games on my PS4. Some points (playing on top player):

- Goalkeeper AI has to be the worst of any football game I've played. First goal I scored with a weak shot from outside the area that crept under the 'keeper. Second I got through on goal, goalkeeper completely stationary. I completely slowed down my striker before lightly tapping shoot where the ball went through the goalkeepers legs.

- Pace of the game feels fine to me, but I thought the same looking at the videos Don't really understand those claiming that playing the game is slower than the gameplay videos we've seen before.

- Physics seem good, some good variety in shooting too which is nice.

- PA1 isn't "free as a bird" (surprise surprise). Pretty much the same as PES 2018.

- Back heels don't seem to occur as much but still too common (4 in a 5 minute match). All perfect laser guided passes too.

- Got a foul in my first match, wasn't expecting it. Don't know if the CPU is more aggressive but referees seem more impartial.

Overall can't see myself buying this game. Ball physics and some of the shooting is great but the AI is so flawed it's hard to enjoy the game regardless of the result. Honestly I'm a bit jealous of the online/myClub players, looks like they are in for a treat. For offline players I don't think many are going to get that "one more game" feeling this year.

You should try feedback to @officialpes twitter Regarding the passing assistance you feel on the demo or how you would like it to be.
i guess im waiting until tomorrow to try it myself on steam

As someone who was super hyped for this game I have to say..the game lived up to the hype. I’m not one to have a lot of super critical opinions on this game. I just like an enjoyable game, and this game is legit.

Graphics are so good. Gameplay feels so tight. It’s hard to explain until you play. I usually hate playing in night time or rainy games. They always look off, but the lighting in this game is accurate for all conditions. Very happy with the demo.

But with a game this gorgeous, why do we not have a proper broadcast cam?!?! C’mon Konami !!

The bad:

  • Still no fouls or physical play. CPU is not aggressive at all and when it wants to get the ball, it gets it 100% without any error.
Stats apart from dribbling and a little bit of speed does not impact CPU whatsoever. I have seen every player pass the ball with the same amount of accuracy which makes crappy team have more than 90% passing completion in Superstar.
Passing in general is not based on stats. It's pretty much RNG based on pass assist. I was pinging the ball with a colo colo defender like I was prime Pirlo.
Every match feels the same. Too repetitive due to the low number of variation from the CPU.
Every team has almost no midfield. The space between defense and midfield is way too high and the fact that CPU defenders likes to back-track a lot. Way too easy.
Top teams are easy to beat. I just beat France with Colo colo 5-0 in Superstar.
No error in first touch. It's too perfect.
It feels like all CPU controlled players are clones. They play the same way. The only visible traits are the animation for dribbling and the skill moves.
Goalkeepers moves like they are on the moon. So floaty. The physics collision also doesn't always sync up with the animation.
Too end to end and arcadey sense of pace. It's due to the amount of space available and CPU not properly covering and using the space.
CPU Attacking AI is weak and bland. Too predictable and easy..
Could you provide a video of this please. Smashing Barcelona with Colo Colo

The games are 5 minutes long. Do you even get time to score 5 goals? If you said 2-0 i'd believe you or maybe 3 but the match breezes by so you can't really get a proper gauge to a match. or are you playing on PA3???

- Superstar is too easy in my opinion. I want the highest difficulty level to be unforgiving.
- Player sometimes doesn’t respond after cursor switch.
- Lack of AI creativity when in possession

I haven't tried manual yet but i'm assuming when you go with manual vs the CPU its watered down and easier like last year and i think in 2017 it was similar. this is why i stopped playing manual vs the CPU as the game seemed unbalanced in this way.

Superstar is quite varied in difficulty for me, no relentless but 'ok' i mean the match is so quick anyway, if you play possession sometimes you run the whole half down with 2-3 attacks.

Think the only way to enjoy it is to play PA0, yes that means that passing stats don't come into play, but since they are watered down to sh*t anyway you may as well have the freedom to pass it wherever you want it to go. PES's of old always had a learning curve, not so much these days, but if anyone wants enjoyment and satisfaction out of creating nice passing plays then PA0 is the only way to get that I feel...
I don't understand why passing stats don't come into play on full manual. Seems to me like they should matter more on manual than on assisted.

I mean the CPU positioning is awful and shots are accurate because stats doesn't get take into that much account. CPU Attacking is also really predictable so easy to defend. Can't record in PS4.

Edit: I tried with Liverpool against Colo Colo and lost 3-1 in Superstar now. The difficulty seems random. Colo Colo played like 5 first touch passes all the way to the goal

I think you by error played the match on regular to beat them 5-0. I've just tried to beat Barca using Colo Colo on superstar. You know what makes it hard is the Colo Colo players basically die in regards to stamina at minute 70 so even in a 0-0 game where i played better than Barca they still won 2-0 late on with superior stats and stamina especially. Not to mention Paredes just get manhandled by Umtiti and Pique.

I don't think Superstar is hard, its a decent challenge but good for how its setup. 5 minutes ain't long enough but i look forward to seeing what this game can do with tactics setup properly.

You can't record with PS4? Why?

I don't understand why passing stats don't come into play on full manual. Seems to me like they should matter more on manual than on assisted.

4 hours non stop human vs human tonight and my friend and me have the feeling that stats matter this year for full manual. With better pass stats its much easier to pass as with lower rated. Maybe we are wrong, but we felt like.

lost second match 1-0 top player difficulty vs barca. messi scored a bs goal where he rocketed an unstoppable shot from just inside the box with the outside of his foot into bottom corner...i dont care who you are it is virtually impossible in real life

should have made it clear messi took a small touch and turned and struck the ball without a run up thats why it made it seem totally unbelievable

No I played against them in Superstar. I usually play on counter attack so stamina doesn't really affect me that much. But yeah the stamina is a really good feature they have added and teams with higher stamina always overpowers teams with lower stamina. After you score like once or twice, the CPU plays full attack so you can easily score bunch.

Edit: Like visible fatigue, they need visible passing error and visible positioning or something like that.

Now, against friends locally... That's a different story. But it always has been.
Just a friendly reminder to guys on here that there are online leagues filled with players who aren't like the sweaty denizens of myClub.. (like ProEvoNetwork). The best way to play PES online, by far.

So far I haven't read anybody in here that's fully satisfied or impressed.

Plus, it seems the catch-up bug being wasn't really true just like the claim that PA1=Manual.

And where's @PES_Danielrh by the way?

Um.. Im raising my hand as being fully impressed and satisfied with what i played last night. Not saying its 100% perfect, as no game ever is...for instance id still like better replay angles etc. But this morning after some reflection. Yes, I reckon im more satisfied with this pes2019 demo that I played, than any other version. I think its amazing. For me (and I don't get how some see it as the same as 2018) the difference between 19 and 18, in a positive way, is much more than 18 compared to 17 or 17 compared to 16. I think konami have done extremely well and have put a lot into this year's game..ALOT OF IMPROVEMENTS..

So im definitely more satisfied and impressed with this version, compared to any other pes demo ive played. I think the only people who wont be fully satisfied are those expecting the impossible.. a 100% faultless game. Doesn't exist in any game. Even those people, I think will be impressed.

btw, I really enjoyed watching the Fifa players playing this demo on youtube for the first time. All mentioned how slow it was compared to fifa… hahah The pace in 2019 is absolutely perfect on default.

Playing makes me wonder what konami have been doing for the last year. The game is basically a tweaked version of 2018 with slightly better colour pallet.

I really hoped they had redone the passing. It's just so ridiculously easy. Doesn't matter if you are Glik or Messi you can pass it perfectly left foot or right foot. What's the point of stats

Sorry mate, but I have to say 2019 has made quite a big leap compared to 2018. Im feeling it, seeing it, and hearing it... the difference and improvement compared to 2018 is huge. Compared with 2018 to 2017 and 2017 to 2016, there is a bigger leap this time round for sure.

I'm a fan of the new game, going by this demo. But feels to me more like a refined 2018 than a very different beast. By contrast, the change to the dribbling and weight of players in 2018 was night and day from 2017, I thought.

You lost me when you said "small difference from 2018 to 2017", honestly. You can't be serious.
PS: not saying 2018 is perfect at all, I may debate the opposite. But huge difference from 2017, in almost everything.

Well i'm still unconvinced, i'm sure you would of made a screenshot. i mean the record and screenshot is inbuilt into the PS4 as it is. Is your hard drive full or something?

Offline the most I've scored and concealed is 2 goals with 2-1 being still the highest scoring games I've been involved in.

cpu doesnt change formation shape at all during a match. you're leading 1-0 and with 20-30 mins to go, it still leaves 2 DMFs on, for example. all it does is switch to attacking mode and replace a like for like player, which is fine, but it needs to be much smarter and do more to change the game. this is going to be a huge problem for offline players...wheres the challenge? it needs to know when to change appropriate shape and personnel when it comes to protecting a lead, go for a win, grind out a match, going a man down, opposition going a man down etc etc

Was there a higher difficulty level above Superstar last year?

I can't remember but I do remember the highest difficulty level being nearly impossible, which I enjoy. I think Superstar on the demo is too easy.

Two actually. If you won 3x on Superstar you unlock Legend difficulty and if you win 3 times on Legend difficulty you unlocked something along the lines of ''Unbeatable'' difficulty

Meh...It's decent...ish.
Looks very nice. I think the pace of the game is very fast. There's still ridiculous shit happening in defense like players getting the ball then stumbling like idiots and giving it away. Not overly impressed TBH.

Yes been saying this for a while Fant'. If the CPU has a defender sent off on Fifa they immediately send on another one and haul off a striker.

I remember playing a game called This is Football and the cpu would throw on additional strikers towards the end of the match if they were losing. That was nigh on 15 years ago.

All we get on PES is like for like changes, often pre-programmed non-sensical ones such as hauling off their most threatening player. It really is farcical in this day and age, and looks like it won't be changing any time soon.

Played the demo. It is definitely an improvement over 18, not a big one but enough to make the matches so far seem enjoyable.
Graphics are beautiful
Backheels are still there bit not as annoying as before
I really hope scripting doesn't end up messing ML

Can we all feed back the goal keeper not coming out ,the ai and the PA1 to the offical pes account.Hopefully they listen
