PES 2019 Demo Impressions Thread

So tried the demo and here are my non-bias and honest thoughts:

The good:
  • Ball-physics is the best. The way it bobbles and the increased ground friction allows some interesting matches.
  • Shooting is better. With the updated ball physics, shootings are varied and is more enjoyable.
  • Fatigue actually impacts player performance now. It adds a layer to the game that was missing before.
  • Dribbling is still the best. The weight and the fluidity matches that of FIFA 16 and is varied amongst players.

The bad:

  • Still no fouls or physical play. CPU is not aggressive at all and when it wants to get the ball, it gets it 100% without any error.
  • Stats apart from dribbling and a little bit of speed does not impact CPU whatsoever. I have seen every player pass the ball with the same amount of accuracy which makes crappy team have more than 90% passing completion in Superstar.
  • Passing in general is not based on stats. It's pretty much RNG based on pass assist. I was pinging the ball with a colo colo defender like I was prime Pirlo.
  • Every match feels the same. Too repetitive due to the low number of variation from the CPU.
  • Every team has almost no midfield. The space between defense and midfield is way too high and the fact that CPU defenders likes to back-track a lot. Way too easy.
  • Top teams are easy to beat. I just beat France with Colo colo 5-0 in Superstar.
  • No error in first touch. It's too perfect.
  • It feels like all CPU controlled players are clones. They play the same way. The only visible traits are the animation for dribbling and the skill moves.
  • Goalkeepers moves like they are on the moon. So floaty. The physics collision also doesn't always sync up with the animation.
  • Too end to end and arcadey sense of pace. It's due to the amount of space available and CPU not properly covering and using the space.
  • CPU Attacking AI is weak and bland. Too predictable and easy.

Overall, I wasn't surprised. It's going to be another forgettable PES game that I will play a couple of matches and get bored due to the repetitive nature. They have failed to get the easier fixes to suit the "balance" nature of online community. If you are an offline player, I don't think that the game is worth it.

Thing is the speed debate doesn't matter that much at the end of the day, because you can change the speed setting to your taste and everyone will have different perceptions based on a massive number of different factors, even stuff like the TV you are playing on could have an effect.

I'm looking more at the specifics, and all the stuff Chris talked about aside from the speed I know will bug the hell out of me because I seem to have the same way of thinking. I don't really understand what is being a "dinosaur" about expecting an AI not to be complete retards in the year 2018, surely it can't be that hard to code it so if the AI is clean through on goal they run towards goal and shoot? Or to make a goalkeeper take a few steps forward when a player is through? This is not expecting them to team up with AlphaGo and break new ground in AI research, it's just basic stuff that could be addressed with the slightest attention to detail of the kind Seabass once epitomised.
The thing is though that MyClub is played on 0 so the arcady crybabies will start spamming them again to make it faster and lighter as is already happening sadly on social media like someone mentioned.
That shows that the guys here who say that it's indeed slower and heavier are probably right.
And i really hope it will stay like this and Konami won't listen to them for once.
They should find another solution or something for these people like let them play online on +1 or +2 and with the PA3 bullshit that they already have and it's all good.No need to fuck up 0 speed every year and make it less realistic again.
They already fuck up with PA1 more than it should so at least leave the pace and heaviness alone.

So does stats makes difference for CPU controlled team?

No, nor do tactics. As with previous PES games, by far the most important thing is the underlying "scripting", so when the game decides the cpu needs to score, cpu stats are effectively all boosted 100 and all the "luck" goes the cpu way. Stats and tactics remain essentially cosmetic details to give you the impression of depth but actually have minimal impact. I think it could be literally decades before Konami move on from this primitive approach.

So, free as bird was the statement right...?

Actually really enjoying all the opinions, some are actually making me rethink my own after playing some more games (game pace, AI etc). The only one that is non-negotiable is the suggestion that PA1 is near manual. Not even Alan would come and troll us with that
Of course it isn't. Better stay away from influencers. You don't know what their intentions are.

But I must say pass assistance OFF feels good. I think it does feel like pa1 of way back before they botched it.

How are the different shot types in-game?

Are the corner mechanics any different? They kinda felt a.little like hit and hope before

People saying PES 2019 is just a new lick of paint, I remember the same thing being said about PES 3/4/5/6 etc.

anyone finding this sht too easy?

havent played since pes 2016.
played on superstar with argentina vs liverpool and barcelona. no advanced settings, default pass assistance. lost the first and won the following 5.
the only way the cpu scores against me is if i lose the ball near my area.

Thought I'd drop this in here too.

Demo is showing on UK store (via app) can't download myself as I'm out of the country...

Was there a higher difficulty level above Superstar last year?

I can't remember but I do remember the highest difficulty level being nearly impossible, which I enjoy. I think Superstar on the demo is too easy.
You must wait for full game ro test cpu difficulty in ML. We have seen in every recent game since 2016 that the same difficulty level varies from demo to full version and from exhibition mode to single competition and to ML.

Think the only way to enjoy it is to play PA0, yes that means that passing stats don't come into play, but since they are watered down to sh*t anyway you may as well have the freedom to pass it wherever you want it to go. PES's of old always had a learning curve, not so much these days, but if anyone wants enjoyment and satisfaction out of creating nice passing plays then PA0 is the only way to get that I feel...

This is turning out to be by far the most controversial PES demo since PES 2014, IMHO.
The topic is 2014 was controversial because despite its flaws and negatives, had something innovative and revolutionary details. Will 2019 be controversial for the same reasons?

Sad to report I'm seeing 'the match will be abandoned because your opponents network significantly worsened' bull shit in a demo.

THIS HAS TO BE STOPPED

Played a good few online games, and it's an absolute shit show imo.

100% gegenpress
100% pingpong... even on PA1

Auto tackling is simply out of control.
None of my opponents have made any subs, but yet they can homicidal maniac press me 'til the final whistle. So much for this new fatigue system.
Keepers giving up some shocking rebound goals.
Backheels are everywhere.
Goals are boring as hell tbh.

Online represents a football game for people who don't like football.

Ha ha yeah it gets obvious real fast. Looks a bit better at first sight, but same mechanics. Totally built for high assistance ping pong and pressure fest. Completely uninteresting for someone who is interested in football principles.

So, free as bird was the statement right...?

:LOL::LOL::LOL: Just try it and you'll literally know the score.

If we didn't read the forums we probably wouldn't notice half of the flaws and more would appreciate the game for what it is. I get the need for feedback and criticism however, but after reading and watching so much I now find myself looking for the issues rather than focusing on trying to enjoy the game.

Played about 10 games against Pro ai. First impressions are:
+looks great
+pace of game is spot on
+different teams play differently
+don't remember seeing any backheels yet
+couldn't even do backheels when I tried. Players now turn and pass and sometimes fall over instead when off balance.
+fast players can outrun slow players
+manual passing feels great
- PA1 is still over-assisted. All standards passes to feet and can't really pass into space, unless you try using through ball
- ai need to shoot from distance more. Only seen 1 shot from outside box
- ai need to shoot ball over sometimes
- still lack of fouls against ai
- Goalkeepers seem a bit clumsy. Spilling shots too much and ball bouncing off them. Step back from 2018 in that regard so far.

I loved 2018 in the end after having a break from it from a few months. I can see some of the small issues have been fixed in 2019 and I'm hopeful the full version will be an improvement on 2018. My main concern at this stage though is the goalkeepers when playing against ai in particular. Just hope it was because ot was 5 min matches that they were letting more in which could have been saved.
