PES 2019 Demo Impressions Thread

I've not posted my first impressions because I wanted to play a good few games first. But my opinions (and that's all they are) haven't changed in the 10-20 games since I wrote them down.

I'll preface this by saying, I have absolutely no idea what people are going on about when they say the game feels slower and heavier. It's 1,000mph to me. Insanely fast and end-to-end on default settings (speed +/- 0, PA1), with and against every team.

Bearing in mind how my opinion on that WILDLY differs from the norm, you may choose to write off this entire post altogether. My opinion seems way off the general feeling, this year.

That's the disclaimer out of the way:

-------------------------------

Nice graphics on the helicopter view of the stadium. Then the sound kicks in. The "official" team chants sound like they've been recorded by ten high-pitched people in a kitchen, and the sound effects guy has just added some reverb to it.

The stadium announcer reads out each name (not literally, it's just muffled noise), and the crowd's corresponding "wahey" noise sounds like mildly disgruntled pensioners at a bingo night. Less "wahey" and more "urgh".

Kick off. Two passes in and I've somehow done a backheel. I don't understand how it happened.

Woah, THIS is the game people said was slow? It's like lightning! End-to-end, first-time-passes all over the place!

At least the AI aren't doing any of that chipped through-ball bollocks yet. Big tick.

I've just been fouled - a real crunching tackle. Another big tick.

Okay, so I accidentally passed the ball to the opposition striker, who had an empty half to run into. He could have run and scored. But instead he IMMEDIATELY hit a first-time pass back into the middle of the field, where I could have easily picked up possession again, then gets a perfect first-time through-ball back. I can't word this very well but... The AI just doesn't feel like it understands football.

They've been realistically offside a few times though, which is nice to see.

Second half. The AI just passed the ball to me after kick-off. Joy! Every pass is still straight to feet, even when it's to the opposition - so there's no misplaced passes in that sense of the word (no looseness to the play, the ball never ends up rolling into an empty space) - but it's better than nothing.

When I move towards the goal, my movement feels constantly angular - like I HAVE to knock the ball either perfectly straight, 40 degrees left, or 40 degrees right. I don't feel free to dribble.

Hit a cross into my striker, it bounces off his head with no power and limply hits the underside of the bar, falling over the line and it's a goal. Goalkeeper flaps and misses it. But I don't feel like I did anything - I don't "own" the goal. It feels really cheap - I didn't have to concentrate to score, and where I aimed the header wasn't even where the header ended up going (straight down the middle). I scored but I feel nothing, my input didn't feel important whatsoever.

The AI moves down the wing and puts a cross in - but the player appears to slide into position before kicking the ball. The movement across the pitch as a whole feels "slidey" to me.

The AI score - a passing move I couldn't stop, but I put this down to my poor defending skills rather than anything more sinister. The "chopped" shot from inside the box floats into the top corner, though - it only has a short distance to the net, yet it floats up into the corner. Even the AI's goals don't "feel" right.

I just passed the ball straight to the AI striker again, and AGAIN, he passes back first-time instead of just running at the goal and scoring. It looks like they're deliberately trying not to score - as if the game thinks it'd look too "cheaty" or wrong, so they go backwards instead. The best way I can describe it is, the opposite of organic.

Not long afterwards, I clear the ball twice within a few minutes and it's immediately headed back into the box, with a perfect headed pass to the striker. The clearance and perfect first-time headed pass back to the striker happens within less than two seconds.

In real life, you'd take stock for a second or two and look for a pass to a free man. It's all so instant and perfect.

Full time. The underlying problems are still there, for me. Perfect first-time always-to-feet passing (even "misplaced" passes), 100mph, AI that doesn't really change its approach, goals that feel soft (not like you've earnt them by getting the passing move or judging the shot power just right - because the game makes *everything* just right, failure isn't really allowed, I feel no freedom in it).

With no changes to the Master League I can't see myself buying this. Big gameplay changes + same ML = I'm in. Big ML changes + same gameplay = I'm in. But not this, and online it's as fast and as assisted as ever. Especially when anyone can use PA3 passing etc...

The part about the dribbling is dead on. I knew there was something about it I didn’t like but couldn’t put it in to words

I honestly don't see how this demo is 1000 mph, it's slow, it's almost Pes 2014 levels slow. I'm playing manual though and also played with Barcelona, so it's not because i'm playing with low level teams.
It's definitely slow (in a good way) & the weight of players is lovely. Night & day compared to last year.
It actually seems slower than how a real life match would look in person or on t.v.
I can unfortunately see a lot of people complaining to Konami that it needs speeding up. I pray to God they don't listen.

I get some people don't like watching replays and it used to be bad on early online Pro Evos with 3 replays of a goal but goal replays being skipped by both players online ruins the enjoyment of scoring a goal for me,especially if its a good one.Would it hurt to allow 1 replay of each goal like Fifa does it only skipable by the scorer. When it skips straight to kick off after scoring when your opponent is frantically mashing the start button it just ruins the element of scoring goals for me.

If you are beating the ai do they push forward in the last few minutes trying to get an equaliser? Or does it feel like the same flaccid ai routines as last year?

PES have moved on 5 years ago from the PS2/PSX direction and have found a new fanbase since. Its time for us dinosaurs to move on or to enjoy what we got right now.

I will try the demo when its out but probably will feel the same way as Chris.

You didnt play it yet and is already wondering you will not enjoy. Its hard to have fun with this kind of mood. As i said on the other topic, maybe you all should take a breake, games werent invented to make us more bitter hahaha

The problem is nobody said the game was fast, many as reported even complained it was too slow, but since someone points some flaws many are quick to agree with him.

Probably PA1 makes it faster @Chris Davies should try to play it with manual passing, but definitely it's not Pes 2018 fast.

Look, i think there are some issues with the game, even this demo shows that, i was talking about AI being still too rigid in their approach, especially the low rated team play unrealistically like in Pes 2018 or they don't press when they could, but others are greatly exaggerated.

I always laugh reading this topics. Because it makes clear that PES (or any other game) will never be perfect for everyone. Some of you think its too fast, otherone plays it at +1 speed, another says it's "perfectly" balanced. I'm not happy with everything, but it is still funny how opinions can be different even in a small group of people.

Had a few games, here are some brief thoughts.

8 mins into my very first game on top player, pinging it around with Liverpool and then I cross it into Salah who does an overhead kick into the top corner. I didn't celebrate as I don't feel I did anything particularly special. seems nowadays these goals are quite common, same with the free-kicks. 'back in the day' even scoring a goal was often an achievement and when you did get good goals it felt amazing. Just don't feel that now.

As others have mentioned the terrible replay manual replay angles remain. Why you have to watch them from knee height is just baffling. It's little things like this that should be so easy to change which annoy people.

I like being able to make quick subs without going through the menus, although you were able to do this a few years ago. Wonder, did they take it out just to claim that it's a 'new feature' this year?

I do like the slower pace to the game. seems a bit more weight to it and you have to be more deliberate in passing.

Overall it plays a solid game I just don't think it's a big improvement over last year. Off the pitch it doesn't sound like there will be many changes either.

I read this part and do you know how people reacted when we read this back in the day with Ps2 Pes? It's realistic as it reproduces the skill of the player you are controlling, you can't expect defenders to be able to dribble as easily as skilled dribblers. Now it's the game being clunky...

In fact i think with this demo you can feel when you are controlling a less skilled dribbler compared to Messi, just to make an example.

I really think some people are so fed up with Pes that where once they saw some things as positives now they are accepted as negatives. Now i will stop responding because it feels like i'm Konami defence force while i'm far from that. It's just that i don't like exaggerations, that's all.

The reason I play on +1 speed is because it feels more normal to twist and turn with the players. That's my only problem with default speed or slower. The general pace of the game feels good on default but I just can't deal with the feeling of players feeling slow and not interested in participating in the match. Too sluggish.

Online still seems like high press ping pong .i hope to find a good game in there somewhere but might be offline

Which in this case 6 years in a row expecting that PES turned upside down back to it's 2007 ways. I wasnt expecting that at all this year, it was enough for 5 years.

But still...
I will try, maybe on manual, on professional the ML then i will realize after a few games that i dont know what am i doing here? As i want to develop players and make stats matter but im playing manual..? Makes no sense.

done with the OT

ANY IDEAS WHEN STEAM REFRESHES THE STORE?

Loving the more regional cheers when you score a goal. The cheer when you score with Liverpool has a distinctive 'English' sound to it & scoring with Monaco has that 'French' roar! It's about time they added something like this, Love it.

Scoring fancy pants goals has to be the norm' in pes to keep the 'community' happy. Long gone are the days of 'Easy To Play - Hard to Master' unfortunately.

This was already present in PES 2011...

I don’t know what Chris was playing but even on PA1 it was slow. I don’t know, it is spot on. Maybe he played on lower difficulty, I always play on superstar. I don’t bother with anything less. I can’t imagine playing slower than it already is lol.

Not recently though and not like this. The general match ambience is still a bit poor but they've definitely worked on the crowd reactions to goals, it's much improved and more satisfying when you score.

Finally got it to download
For me it feels a bit like 2018 but certainly more refined.
+ball is much looser
+Looks stunning in 4k after i disabled hdr mode
+some really nice touches and animations ..my player clapped the red when I got booked for diving

- AI still looking for that over the top ball out wide

Not negatives but
Game felt way to fast on default ..i play default on 18 but I was torn between -1 And-2
Manual pass and manual shooting are really difficult ..feels much more unforgiving the 2018 for both . I knocked it up to PA1 just to get some realism
Had 2 fouls in a game but half to short to judge
Deffo going to buy it

I don't know, i played around 20 matches Superstar, manual, using Barcelona against all teams and never once felt it was too fast or even fast.

I choose to play Superstar because i know exhibition is generally easier than competitions and Master League. Game feels balanced, only that stupid AI pressing bug and Colo Colo playing easily passing the ball between players and that's frankly unrealistic.

To me, manual passing feels a lot easier than 2018. It feels to me like it's more assisted than previous years.

+ graphics are the best I've ever seen in a pro evo game.
+ pitch looks great. it's an improvement on PES18.
+ dribbling is spot on.
+ you can really feel the physicality in this game. Players like Pogba are so strong on the ball and good at winning it back.
+ nets are great.
+ really like the weight of the passing and the ball physics are class.

- goalkeepers stand on their line and don't rush out.
- chip shots are too overpowered. it works almost every time when the goalkeeper rushes out.
- sometimes the cursor switches when you pass to a player and they don't respond properly.
- lag cheating is still a problem.

very strange i didnt get that feeling at all. manual shooting feels different in that i feels like you need to release direction much earlier - smashed one wide from 6 yards that i would of buried in 18. will just take some adjusting i think

I have no idea how anyone thinks the game is fast, it feels just right personally compared to last year's game.

just had a two matches a quick knock on Xbox One X .......Boom !!! "Follow me into the Jungle" that Bass line just thumped - Dolby Atmos sound bar boys ....soz neighbours I just jacked that sound up !!, love how the sound music dipped when I was navigating around the menus but when I stood still to do something the sound jacked back up again .....nice

just has I left this baby up in Glasgow the pace of the game is sweet, I love slowing the pace down walking with my players searching to attack and PA1 sorry but it's free a a f"""""""g bird I pass where I want how I want to whom I want to what space I want how much more does a man need time to set us free Konami and get rid of PA3.

Happy has larry and tomorrow's the big one PS4 Pro and online I go .....off to watch some of the lads stream this bad boy and I'll chat with them ........ catch ya's tomorrow ...... peace

It’s 2018 with a lick of paint isn’t it?

Same old near post cross goals, headed goals that feel like it’s just bounced off their head rather than attacked with purpose, defenders backing off allowing long shots, midfielder always on hand at the edge of their box for the volley when it’s cleared.
Had two one on ones and the keeper was stuck on his line

I just hate this game since 2015 and I’m trying to approach it positively but it’s just glaring how bad the game is to me now.
