PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

Played some more tonight.

The tightness, some variety and the new responsiveness in some points is surely welcome, but I enjoyed the game before despite this, I was waiting this patch only for the fouls, for as much as I love Pes (and will surely keep on play it regardless) I must say I'm REALLY disappointed. I know I should have kept my expectations low, but since they directly talked about the problem itself I could have never possibly tought that the result would have been this enormous nothing they did.

My bad I guess.

I played the game the hole day, only versus and friendly matches and i have to say that overall i saw fewer fouls than before (the patch). I'm really confused. They did some good things with this patch but even less fouls than before? I don't get it.

It feels like manual is assisted now and the Cpu are only allowed two fouls. . .they did a good job on some of the gameplay but a game without fouls is hard to accept. ..made us wait a few months for the patch and did the opposite of what they were supposed to do ..they actually had the nerve to reduce the fouls in the game ha ha . .have to admire their neck.

Untick both boxes and everything should stay more-or-less the same*. I believe (though could be wrong) that you'll lose out on new faces and new kits if you do that, but until whoever produces your option file of choice undoes all the damage the update does (in terms of moving players around, resetting players etc.) then it's the best way to go...

Should you change your mind, you can apply the data pack at a later date using the "apply update" button on the game's main menu (the furthest screen to the right).

*League structure is reset, e.g. how many teams the Bundesliga is set to have, and where the teams are placed (some are in the "Other European" league).

Thanks Chris!

I'm playing on FullManual, and it seems to me that FullManual iz a little bit assisted or I'm very good at fm passing now.

Maybe, I play fuma as well online. But those matches are great, manual passing still let stats come into play. I never feel cheated like when I from time to time switch to PA1 and go online.

They really do take the piss out of us loyal customers.

I just don't see how the series will recover from this. The pitchforks are out and even the diehards are tired of Konami now.

We desperately need a new developer to come along and shake up the football gaming scene because both EA and Konami haven't got a clue anymore.

Sorry Deco. Hate that you're disappointed with it - I've only been clinging onto hope because of your ML match reports.

I can't understand what's happened, I almost feel like they're going to announce that they've released the wrong patch (I've got pixelated shadows on the pitch from the stands on PS4 Pro so I feel like something is definitely not right)...

Played another dozen games and can verify now for certain despite the minimal fouls, there’s a hell of a lot of midfield battles, I struggle to break through the midfield with ease, lot more passes required to get around, very impressed with that, manual still feels the same to me, TP is a lot more tougher than before that’s for sure. Also now AI doesn’t give up the ball easy, dribbles a lot better, so far I haven’t been given a cheap goal, and yes I haven’t seen AI do a lot of perfect backheel passing

When I read reports from guys who play online saying that they are getting more fouls than before the patch I couldn't believe it .. most online kids couldn't care Less about fouls and we're sitting here begging for them and Konami give THEM the fouls and reduce ours from 4 to two .. .a possible ploy to force us to play online? Who knows? . . . . .I might be joining the rest of you on FIfa in future, never thought I'd hear myself saying that.

What you've said is what I've experienced as well Jimi . . full of midfield battles but i feel that manual passing is too accurate. . .. the 2 CPU fouls per match is killing it for me.

Yeah I agree with fouls, seems like the count went backwards, iv been only playing 10min matches so far, may have to try 15min see if there’s a difference, as for manual to be honest I haven’t felt a difference, I can still place the ball where I like it to go, then again I’m controlling a team with good passers, I may try a lesser team in Brazil or Argentina and see if there is a difference with manual.

@Deco have you tried a new ML or continued using an exisiting one, I remember in the past you may need to start a fresh ML to feel the patch proper

I started a new one today Jimi .. . finished off the old one with a couple of games on the new patch .. don't get me wrong if the fouls were fixed I'd be happy with the game but they're worse than before it.

Yeah that’s very disappointing, worst part is they even said in the notes that fouls were gonna increase.

Blunt truth is Konami have been taking the piss since when the curtain came down on the PS2. Series should have ended then.

Had a few online co-op games tonight, I did seem to get quite a few more free kicks than usual from standing tackles/collisions. Some that weren't called previously like shielding the ball with your defender and getting clattered into by the striker. Player switching still had some odd moments but seemed more reliable overall...

The good parts seem to be just as good, thankfully, but not played enough hours to make a proper judgement on it.

Enjoyed scoring this one;

Saw him overcommit his momentum and knew this turn would give me space to shoot, it's worth learning some of these moves in training mode, it's not all for show :P.

Look where we are with this series in 2017 i still remember the promises made around pes 2010 then the 2014 leaked demo debacle typical pattern year on year it improves one thing breaks 15 others yet most of us have kept belief because of a series a decade ago

Ok this years looks beautiful and has some flashes of brilliance but it leaves you so frustrated knowing what it could have been if they just tested the bloody thing!

last years was ugly but strangely addictive and playable but really overall its total incompetence where we are right now thats not being over dramatic its a fact that they just cannot pull it off (and neither can EA for that matter) wish to god a new developer came in but even then it will take a couple of years for them to get it up to scratch

I'm so glad to have to eat my words when I must.

After a few more games, this time on Master League (when the update first came out I only tried Exhibition mode) I'm starting to feel the changes. I even got a few fouls! Not as much I'd like to, but it's definitely an improvement. The flow of the match is better too, the AI is a little smarter (as Matt rightly pointed). And I could swear graphics look even nicer on PC. I hate to talk placebo effect but I could swear they did something to the graphics (or perhaps it's just the fact that I've been playing FIFA too much).

Oh and yeah... Manual is a little more assisted now. I usual suck at manual passing, but I found myself misplacing passes a lot less. And I don't dislike that at all. I think I like that.

BTW here are a few fouls I got in the same match, in a matter of seconds.

I agree with the fact that it's 2017 and 2018 is right around the corner... with the technologies available both PES and FIFA should be ahead than they are right now. But we are not developers and, it may not be that easy afterall.

Also noticed first touch error is even more pronounced, more heavy touches from players and some even take more time to properly control ball, there’s a lot of good in this patch, pity about the fouls as well as injuries which is a massive disappointmented for me, iv never had an injured player and have played two seasons, injuries become tactical especially in the mid transfer window, surely that can’t be that hard to program into a game.

All of you whining about fouls, how many fouls you want in a 10 min match?50?? If there's 2-3-4 fouls in a 10 min match that's realistic enough and that means that if it was 90 min game you would have 18-24 fouls, that's fair enough i think.I play 20 min matches and there is a decent number of opportunities and fouls, only bad thing is there are no injuries. In general the game is great so stop whining and enjoy it and don't forget that they're trying to put the events of a 90 min game in a much less time so do the analogy. It's not so easy to create a perfect football game so think how many hundreds or thousands of things they have to do right.

I would be happy with 2-3 per half.
I play 15 minute matches so I think that's a fair amount.

To be fair, Adam Bhatti had his doubts about the patch and more fouls on Twitter (this was weeks ago). He wrote that this would be difficult to apply.
I'm not a programmer, but i don't ubderstand this...

If you're talking about this tweet:

I don't think he was talking specifically about fouls.
Perhaps you were talking about a different tweet though.

I just feel everything's a steep mountain to climb for the PES TEAM at KONAMI.
Like... when they have to fix something they take aaaaall the time in the world to start doing it, then they "run tests", then they test it again, and then they say the are testing it before release. How hard can it be to increase, decrease certain values in the code and have the whole staff play 10 matches for a whole week with different teams, under different circumstances, in different modes. Give feedback. Change it if necessary and finally release it?. Don't 2 months and a half seem like an awful lot? And even if the patch is very good (in my eyes) it still didn't achieve to raise the amount of fouls to something that feels representative of real life football.

I was just playing Master League, the AI scored in the first minutes (they were playing at their stadium), I was 0-1 down by half time. After a few minutes into the second half I scored. 1-1. In real life the home team would usually start to pressure more. I scored the 2nd goal, so now I was winning 2-1, again in real life maybe the home team would get a little nervous and start being more aggressive, specially when I had taken the ball from them for so long.

The match ended 3-1 in my favour, with 0 fouls from the AI.

And this is just an example. It happened in many more games.
You do get some fouls with the new patch, but they are so very sporadic.
