Finally(!) got a chance to play the demo for myself. First match, Boca vs River Plate in Camp Nou, low gras, night game and on professional.

After the first minutes i was like "meh". Not good, not bad. Noticed some nice animation, but I still had all the negative comments in the back of my head and to a degree I could confirm them. Big gaps on the field, did not feel pressured to make quick choices, defending was very easy.. the challenge was lacking. I was not involved in the game. Add to that the lack of commentary (i hate playing without it, no matter how bad the commentary is, it just feels something is missing) and right from the start it is difficult to appreciate this demo. Got 0-1 behind as well, just lack of concentration: shot, rebound, goal.

Come second half I realized i still had to turn on manual passing and shooting. Just turning it on instantly made me consider my choices more and I started to build some nice attacks. Then i had another realization. Camp nou has short grass. I needed to exploit this more and up my passing game.
Maybe it was just a placebo but from then on it just felt like i was playing the way one should play in Camp Nou. More forward thinking, less consolidating. It worked, it seemed like the timing of my passing game made all the difference between 'meh' and 'wow'. Suddenly possibility where there, players where making runs, deflections where happening, the game showed small glimpses of its brilliance.

Second game. I decided to try the Dortmund stadium and put the grass on long. Also, looking for a challenge i played River Plate against Germany this time. Game started. Oh boy, that's more like it! This is what i played a during the beta! I felt like every attack something magical could happen, the old familiar PES feeling, when you feel everything is possible and you crave those moments where you actually succeed in playing that perfect trough ball, pulling of that nifty sidestep or that nice low driven shot from distance. It clicked again. I am reassured the game will be fine.

At the same time i fully agree with most of the negatives. Even against germany pressure on my own half especially was non-existent, the field was way to big and i myself did not feel defending required enough skill from me, running into players was a bit too effective.

But most of those negatives are, i believe, due to it being a demo, more catered to the pick up and play crowd. And don't forget, these are friendly matches. The real test lies in non-friendlies. Also, they might have changed the difficulty levels a bit, so that all levels are now (a lot) easier (sure feels that way).

As it stands human vs human alone will be worth buying this game for. Here's hoping vs CPU will be on par.
I dont think there is anythinf wrong with the difficulty , i was torn apart yesterday brazil vs germany and germany beat me 4-1, although it was a bit too unrealistic as 4 out 5 shots on target for germany were goals, it feels very scripted on superstar its not nice

Not to sound overly dramatic, but I instantly turned off the game after this in the 90th minute.
Had the same reaction as the 4 Barca players actually.

Add to that the annoying keeper slowmotion jump is still there and it feels that shots and keeper saves are scripted to be as they are, i felt it yesterday playinf brazil vs germany, neuer doing a save from diagonal shot by willian.

On and on and on and on he goes.

What crusade are you on..my God man make some new points or move on.

Even better draft an email to Konami.

Did anyone else notice that stray passes never loose speed? For example a loose ball along the ground rolling towards the sideline doesn't loose it's speed?

Might be only on manual passing, but I see a lot of users here playing with manual settings so I'm surprised no one have mentioned it yet (as far as I'm aware - long thread :D)

Btw I play on normal grass length and normal pitch conditions.

I noticed this too when i was playing Manual for the first time last night. Misplaced a fairly moderately powered pass from the centre of the pitch out to the wing and although i missed Muller, he was re-adjusting trying to collect the pass as it went behind him. But there was no chill and the ball rolled out of play like a bowling ball.

To be fair, i don't know whether i was playing on Short Grass as i had stadium settings on random but it seemed unnatural to me. Reminds me how on FIFA 13-14 long balls would that would miss everyone and keep bouncing never slowed down & zip straight out of play.

There's a new difficult setting - legend.

You apparently unlock it by winning 5 games on superstar in any mode.

Also you can have classic or challenge mode on Master League - Challenge is the mode that has the different states from the owner, players are more likely to leave, demand higher salaries and want to move on to different clubs. Also you can get fired!

So it probably makes sense for the keen ones among us to play our 5 games on superstar, unlock legend difficulty and start a Master League on legend difficulty with challenge mode. Jesus, I'm so excited for it now.

Yes exactly, it looks quite unnatural. It's really a shame because ball physics are quite good otherwise. It wasn't an issue in 2017 (or 16) so a bit weird that it's suddenly a problem. I might post a vid later and hope someone with a twitter account can send it to @officalpes to hopefully get it sorted out.

That'll be a method of torture to extract information from suspected criminals.

What I've emailed over to the devs.I still think it's the way the demo has been set-up but a real lack of fouls does bother me.

Can I ask has cpu pressure in the midfield been increased in the final game.

At times the cpu can be very passive and not very aggressive.Walking away from players etc..

It's not as pronounced in xboxone version. But it's like they just switch off and don't sense danger.

Not a issue with my teammate ai.

Also noticed a real lack of fouls from the cpu..

Hope this has been addressed in the final code.I know it's a demo so tactics may be set this way to demonstrate flow.

The space is fine as is the game overall just these issues for me.

Would be a real shame as the game is top and you've put so much work into dribbling and animations and addressed the catch up problem from 17.

Just to easy at times to bypass the midfield and no urgency to close space from the cpu.It can feel like a training session.

Assisted passing is also ridiculously assisted and easy..I'm a manual player though.

The balance is there i.e. Defenders can contain fast forwards and defending is great.

Cpu pressure was completely over the top in 17 now it seems none existent at times.

My cons but I'm confident there a non issue because I believe the demo has been deliberately set up this way.Time will tell.

Don't think there's anything wrong with defending though. You can use the RT to jockey and steal the ball with good stick control.X allows you to put a foot in.Blocking is also key as is a we'll timed sliding tackle.

I like the space and don't want to end up with a really compressed game. That said you can't sacrifice the midfield.I remain positive because for me it's still the best footie game I've played interms of feel and flow.

Finally got round to playing the demo, I was genuinely a bit worried considering the posts in this thread and the overall vibe but regardless I was always going to play it and I had a brilliant first few games. Pace felt fine, didn't feel to back and forth but definitely room for improvement. I think the key area that needs to be considered is that we cannot change the tactics for teams and that is massively having an impact.

When I played as Liverpool vs. Inter, Liverpool's default setup was hug the touchline, deep defensive line, passing is set to short and support is incredibly close etc. It ends up with Liverpool at times trying to pass it out of their own 18 yard box when you're pressed high on them. Same with when you look at Dortmund, they're set to counterattack but also long passes, hug the touchline etc.

Konami have just got the tactics wrong for a lot of teams, for the demo they should have just left the advanced instructions off by default and instead let us have a play around with tactics for both teams.

I've found shooting to be fine, drew my first game 0-0, won 2-0 in my second, 1-0 in my third, 3-1 and then my final game last night was a 2-2 draw. I've not had too many absolute thunderbolts fly into the top corner and I've seen plenty of low shots skim past the post too.

There's been a decent amount of fouls, nothing compared to how accurate I think FIFA does it but every game so far has seen at least one yellow card for the opposition. The more I played it the more I was getting excited for playing with my teams - playing a Master League / League season with Chelsea or playing an international cup or European cup with England or Belgium. It genuinely did excite me which I guess is something the demo should do.

Of course there are areas to improve on but I enjoyed my first taster - looking forward to the full game now. I think it's important that we don't overplay the demo - I spent a lot of time playing the Call of Duty: WWII beta last weekend and because of the limited weapons, mapset and modes you can very easily find frustrations. The same applies to the PES demo - we only have a few teams, 2 stadiums and no ability to change tactics and see how things work that way.

It's 10 days until PES launches in the US, 12 until Europe - I'm really looking forward to it.

I like the shot a lot! Looks great, but I don't understand one thing:
You loaded up the power bar quite much so why didn't the shot go high?
Isn't it that the lower the higher the power bar, the higher the shot goes?

So why the randomness?? :(

btw,
since I switched from -1 to 0 on game speed I'm having more fun with this.
-1 is a tad too slow for me.

Would love something in between -1 and 0 though. :p

Or this demo is based on a unfinished version of the game, or this game will take time and a lot of patches to be a real retail version, wich is an absurd since Adam said that this is a 3 years work.

CPU have an one on one chance, I tackle from behind. Last man, penalty. Referee just gives yellow to me.

they should nuke some difficulty settings, how many now? Who plays below regular anyway.

Have you played both demos?
Like he has?

The Xbox demo is superior. Its not placebo.

Cpu has more urgency. It doesn't completely negate the lack of urgency sometimes in the midfield but game speed is more stable as are the animation transitions.Much smoother too.

Happened last year, the xbox demo just felt better.Colours and saturation always looks much better by default.

The ps4 version is always a much higher res,but the Xbox version this gen has always been smoother.Increased dead zones on the PS4 controller also make control not feel as tight.

I would say the Xbox demo is a good benchmark to gauge the pc version, which is probably similar to a mid or low spec pc.Although the one version is 900p.
