PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

This blog is so predictable and I haven't even been on it that long. First, hype. Then, early impressions, usually pretty positive, with some overreactive negative comments. Then, constructive criticism. Then, butthurt comments about how this game will never be perfect, I like it despite it's flaws, best Pes ever blah blah blah. Then, butthurt negative comments about how the same shit has been broken for years. Rinse, recycle, and repeat.

My truth is both sides are pretty correct. Is this the best Pes ever? Probably. I've only been playing footy games for 5-6 years or so, so I'm not the best person to make this conclusion, but I've watched numerous videos of the old Pes 5 and some of the other iterations. Anyway, here's the point I want to get across more than anything else. You all deserve more than what most of you are asking for. You guys should demand more than what you're currently getting. We're in 20freakin17 and it's still somewhat reasonable that a game from 2005 is the best version of all time? That's a fucking shame.

Check this out: http://www.operationsports.com/nba-2k18-offensive-tendencies-ai-execution-motion-blog-da_czar/
I just came over frpm this blogpost on operationsports. This is from one of 2k's AI producers detailing the specific way's the AI will react to different situations. He details WITH VIDEO EVIDENCE one simple play that has about 8 different branches the Ai can choose from depending on how defend them. Each player has their own tendencies (How often they pull up for 3 on a fastbreak, how often they go left/right, they're favorite dribble moves, how well they see the floor, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.) 2k's dedication to making each player and team unique and real is absolutely positively 1000% unrivaled. And you know the craziest thing about it all? They don't even really market it that heavy. Communicate with their diehards on blogs and social media networks. If Ea put this much into their game, we'd see fireworks, cheerleaders and Michael Bay kabooms showcasing their achievement (Even moreso than we already do). What communication has Konami given us? EA? I don't want to turn this into a Ea/Konami debate, but where are our blogs detailing how they're focusing on making the AI as good and lifelike as it's ever been?

You all should be getting more than what you are now. There is no excuse for these teams not having their own real identities as well as these players, especially when the options given to us already don't even work correctly. Ea has even less of an excuse given the resources they have. Football is the greatest, and biggest sport in the world. We should demand the same of the video game. And truthfully, many on here are too apologetic for where we should be in 2017. And the sad thing is, it's mostly the little things or the fundamentals that are holding this game back. The glits and glam are mostly there.

Really good post!

What is this?
The DEFAULT settings are with basic assistance set to on, like every previous classic PES. Why should anyone be forced to play everything manual? That's just a lazy get out of jail card for Konami.

Disagree Mate, in any game there is a level of change You can introduce and PES is no different.
How is adding this lazy? If it was not an option now that would be lazy.

PA 1 and advanced shooting is my preference , very real looking and balanced. I really like the live broadcast cam but the zoom ruins it if only there was a disable option. Anyway pitchside cam 8 zoom 2 high with 7 angle is similar but not quite the same .
Just hope fouls get addressed to some degree by either tactics or a patch ...the game has grown on me immensely the more I play

That's really it right there.

The problem is people focus too much on

"It's not what you're saying, it's how you're saying it..."

Sorry. We need to have thicker skin, or be smarter and know how to FILTER THE MESSAGE.

Person A: "I absolutely hate this crap defending, what is KONAMI thinking, why are they just letting me run through the defense!??"

Interpretation: "CPU defending needs work...."

Person B: "OMG, Adam doesn't know what he's doing. He promoted Mbappe's face and he's missing a pimple on his right eye!!"

Interpretation: "Mbappe's face is missing a pimple on his right eye."

Person C: "Seriously, the shooting is f**** up!! I just hit a screamer from 40 yards out with Smalling!"

Interpretation: "I can either ask a question on whether or not Smalling was under pressure....or I can just jot down that maybe need to look at Smalling's ratings....or video proof :) "

Instead, there is this drive to complain about people complaining. Filter the message, and move on. It's not hard.
I don't agree with this.
First of all it isn't like you present it. The problem is that some people post 20 times what people A,B and C are claiming. It's the repetition that is the biggest problem.

Second, the way you express yourself is very important in interaction. Forums are all about interaction.
I disagree with you on this (it's not important Matt), but how would you feel if i started this posted by claiming or implying that you are a retarded moron? I'm pretty sure you would do the sensible thing and would ignore my post. What would you do if i kept on repeting that?

My main problem with this thread is that people don't respect each other.

And with all this bickering, i asked a very simple question about changing players in the demo, nobody even bothered to answer because bickering with each others seems more important.

All they have to do is simply make every stat really matter, and a lot will be solved.
This appears to elude them hard. Not long ago, when Suff was active in the PES scene, he was advocating heavy stats work in the future PES titles... Assisted play in PES is dreadful, disgusting and to be completely frank a "No-No".
All the assisted levels paired with the abysmal difficulties, everything below Professional must be eradicated from the franchise ASAP, make the game so straight forward and braindead that only the so called "gaming journalists, reviewers and youtubers" can appreciate.
I have no idea what KONAMI are smoking, but if they think they are gaining sales from FIFA buyers, because they made the game a defensive horror show with enough space to add 2-3 more players to both teams and still feel "the space". I really don't know what to say at this point, If I wasn't a PES fan and I was looking for a more mature footie title, this demo is just not cutting it. YES, it is fun. YES, you will experience amazing sh*t during your first several hours, but I really don't see myself playing ML if the A.I. is just as dreadful in the full release even after tweaking hard with tactics and playing on this 6 star difficulty which is presumably only for the best of the best...

:RANT:RANT:
I made over 40+ hours on the Online Beta and during my time with the game, I lost only once and that was because I felt like playing at 3 am on a work day. I am not saying here that I am an amazing player or anything like that, but my games were so dreadful and boring on PA1, I was winning with 2-3 goals difference every game with a bunch of games resulting in disconnects after the third goal. So I said f@ck this and I switched to full manual and oh boy, oh boy did my experience change, people were covering space, they were trying to hold possession and they were also taking their time with passes, no one was rushing any decisions. Sure, there were a few matches where people were trying to play full manual as they were playing on PA1, but those games were just a few. Full manual is just a better choice if you want to experience the best out of PES. If the majority of PES players are like the ones that played the beta, no wonder PES is at this stage, FIFA obviously ruined a lot of generations.

There is no power in this world that can force me to play on any of the assisted levels in PES, every pass becomes just a button press, every shot is a scripted mess, every moment in the game becomes repetitive and boring. No wonder people are complaining about shots being op, passes being laser guided and ping pongy. Combine this pile of disgust with the idiotic defensive A.I., that currently functions as a constantly loosing power android bot trying to learn how to walk in a University somewhere in Soviet Russia. When you are dribbling, the A.I. is just a choppy running mess, they have no idea whats going on when you are speed dribbling with the ball, they are always trying to contain you and they are never pushing aggressively on your position, its like they are playing the pretend game, where they are supposed to be football players, but in reality they are all either IT's or Plumbers. There is absolutely no urgency in their actions they are so chill, it depresses me and when we add the hundreds of acres of space, we receive I really have no clue what, but it sure isn't a proper football experience.

P.S. I had a lot of draws in my full manual games, 0:0, 1:1 mainly and every single draw felt amazing and satisfying.

I think Adam and co are going to have to admit they messed this up. Even the "pros" are slamming the game. I don't see any way they can spin this:

Can't even blame the PES League/Youtuber people for giving bad feedback on this one, Konami have screwed it up on their own. I think they just need to swallow their pride and roll back to the beta build, but there is probably no time for that. Such a shame.

Feel the same way if/when playing the other game?
Sliders are a get out of jail card for EA,or a good way to make the game playable?

No words needed

So what?
What does this prove?
I suspect people who loose their time with things like this to have cheated to proof their point (for example played on the lowest difficulty, i know you will frenetically deny this).

Who will attempt this in a match against the CPU?

I can counter you with an argument that is as valid as yours (totally invalid). As a Belgian i've seen Mignolet years and years before he played in England. He ceratainly has the skills to do this, but it is not done in England. In Belgium he did it all the time and all our GK's play like that. Of course this is bullshit, just like your clip.

What i want to say is: the game isn't meant to be played like this and imo for single player it is totally irrelevant if you can do this on superstar or not. If you play like this, you spoil the experience for yourself. If you do this you totally have the wrong attitude towards gaming. So why do it as an experiment? It is totally irrelevant...instead of doing this you could read a good book or search a girlfriend or even masturbate (that is the best analogy, what you did is intellectual masturbation).

And this is coming from somebody who does not really like the demo (i have serious issues with the defending, but perhaps i do something wrong. Haven't had the time to play the demo enough to judge it, but at the moment i'm negative about it).

^ quite an insulting post that mate imo..anyway we can't have it both ways ask for a SIM and then make excuses for the game and put the fault on the user because the goalie can dribble through the entire team..things like this should of been picked up on a play test months ago and fixed ..its just lazy

This.

I urge EVERYBODY who wants to play online to give manual passing a go in Online Divisions. I'm gonna go for manual passing, adv shooting and adv through balls. Just set your matchmaking to "similar settings" and you will get paired with other manual passers. That scene is growing and I had a lot of fun playing that way in PES 2017.

Anyway,my thoughts after 3 days and countless games on the PS4 and Xbox one version. With most of my games and playtime spent on what I feel is the slightly more refined demo Xboxone demo.
I also found the XB1 version more refined and certainly more fun to play. Still not the same level as the Beta, though IMO!

sorry to ask a none demo question but is there any news released yet on xbox one edit mode? I know adam bhatti said it would be revealed soon my 'editing sites' but i don't think I've seen anything yet. It's a real killer that PC/PS4 get proper kits but XB1 doesn't.

Is this the infamous Vital? . .or somebody quoting him?

You are right this is not the way to play this game, but just that there is an opportunity to do this breaks the game...well thats what i think.

I prefer to build my game strategic and slowly go forward and not this kind of run. But a game where u will do more success by doin this kind of runs is not good. Im pretty sure they will fix the defence for the full game but if it stays like this......to always know when u play important games in a master league that if u are 1 goal down in the end u can decide to pick a great dribbler(or even the keeper :) ) and run through their defence easily, doesnt give me the best feeling.

should be a game where u get rewarded for playing tactical and smart and not like this.

Just my opinion.

im not impressed with how much possession i can have playing liverpool vs barcelona, i have 75 % possession of the ball, that is totally unrealistic, or i need to start to play manual....
all my games have been 50/50 ish

I can't wait to play more. Last game I had was Liverpool vs BVB but I had to switch off after going 2-0 up. Mane was tearing up the flanks better than I could with Messi. Speed merchants are going to be a big factor on 2018 offline and online.

New to the boards and a konami vet from the heady days of Iss deluxe. There probably isn't a footie game I haven't played over the years and while in the main I prefer the konami ethos.I have indulged in the other games output over the course of the last 8 years alongside pes.

Anyway,my thoughts after 3 days and countless games on the PS4 and Xbox one version. With most of my games and playtime spent on what I feel is the slightly more refined demo Xboxone demo.

Shooting..Even on basic I'm able to place the ball, change the level of elevation via the power bar and use the left thumbstick to hit over or under the ball.Even foot postion factors in and I've scored a variety of dipping low shots, outside of the boot curlers.

Defending..Majestic,clever and wonderfully orchestrated.Never have I experienced this level of control,or the ability to snuff out fast forwards with there mazey runs.

Tempo..Completely dependant onuser control. We can now slow the game completely down or opt for a more open end to end match..

Shielding..First class both offensively and defensively.Once it clicks its like nothing I've experienced in a footie game before.

AI and positioning..On a different level now.Intelligent player movement and a cpu that will give you moments of space but also squeeze and compress.Positioning imo is almost perfect,as is the way you can pull players out of position to make space and create openings.

I certainly feel konami have hit that perfect balance of realism and enjoyment and superseded the ps2 games. There's just a realism here I haven't experienced before and the sheer volume of subtlety takes me back to a golden age of footie gaming.

Just felt you had to sign up and say this? Suspicious....

Adam says that they are having discussions with Microsoft about a way to implement kits etc,but it's in the hand of MS.
Latest I heard is that they asked MS if there's a way to go around the USB importing (which MS stopped us from doing a couple of years ago) and do it through th one drive instead.
But,it's up to MS

Goodvibe, how do you defend?
I concede that i considered myself an average defender, but with this demo it's utterly catastrophic.

I struggle most when i have to change defenders...i'm Always too late or my player makes this small step "out of the way of the attacker" and of course i'm always beaten by the attacker.

I'm quite sure i'm doing something wrong, but what?

And i'v read post here where people write that this has changed (changing players in defense), is there a way to do it the "old way" like in PES2017 and all the other ones?

Do you have secondary player switching turned off? ( think it's called that)
You know having one active player icon, and then a secondary with a "sleeping" icon.
Hope you know what I mean.
I have it switched off,and control/switch like I've always has been.

Edit :next player switching, that's the name

After two more games of the demo at Lunch i think the player switching is slightly off, it seems to auto switch to a player nearest to where the ball's final point will be rather than the next nearest player. i had a deflected cross come in and switched from the player who was trying to prevent the cross, and it changed to a player who was challenging the opposition striker for the ball, despite there being a lone defender available that i would have prefered to be selected that could have intercepted it before it got there.

Not saying anything is broken but it does seem the logic has changed in places and perhaps we (or I) haven't quite gotten used to it yet

So I have to give them my money first to demo the attacking and defensive instructions. Lovely.

Fair comment I don't understand this either but they didn't have to release a demo did they. If they wanted cheat people out their of their money they could've given us the beta and nothing else, especially after all the praise.

The true brits guy commented that by locking advanced tactics you experience playing with/against teams in their natural formations, tactics etc.

Thanks.

Also thanks to robieryan, the problem is that i haven't had the chance to play the demo a lot...two or three games.

Yeah,it's a bit wonky,I've been trying the "next player indicator" both on and off.
Strange layup with that one.
I've seen, when switching to a player,my controlled player, takes a step in the wrong direction, and loses a meter on the opponent at times.
Since I'm playing ML on 17 a lot right now,one thing that has crossed my mind is when cpu goes into beast mode, and your own players just becomes retarded,a couple things happends, your passing (manual) becomes horrible, and player switching becomes a bit wonky.
Maybe it's the same thing here?

I don't agree with this.
First of all it isn't like you present it. The problem is that some people post 20 times what people A,B and C are claiming. It's the repetition that is the biggest problem.

My main problem with this thread is that people don't respect each other.

And with all this bickering, i asked a very simple question about changing players in the demo, nobody even bothered to answer because bickering with each others seems more important.

Isn't the fact that there is repetition begs to offer the idea that it's important enough? All concerns are important, but you still have to filter the message. Just because the message is delivered in a certain way doesn't mean it's not a valid concern. Caring about that stuff just gets you stuck in the weeds.

I don't mind being called anything. But it's not about me. This is a game for everyone. Concerns help the game improve. Shunning those who have that concern, or grouping them up as not valid just because they are disrespectful, doesn't lessen the validity of the original concern.

I hear what you're saying, and people not respecting eachother is kind of just the way the world works these days - especially over the internet. Thankfully, we have a great community here at Evo. We have great modders who put members back in place - and we have community members who do the same.

It's like a Facebook timeline. You choose what you want to listen to, and move on. Or, you get stuck in the weeds, the drama, the politics, and before you know it...you've defriended your best friend of 20 years. It's illogical.

I'm not sure i had it off, rockstrongo.
Thanks.

No problems mate, since i always play with a custom setup on my hand controller,I saw that feature, would probably have missed it otherwise

Just immersed myself in the gameplay rather then focusing on what the games doing or how I originally perceived it should play.

Coming off the back of the beta I was impressed but a lot for me remained answered.

Really impressed with all facets of the game this year and while I respect the opinions of others a lot of the negatives on these boards don't coralate with my experience.

While my original post may sound glowing it's not hyperbole and I genuinely believe a masterpiece has been created here.

Maybe its my mentality,or maybe I'm someone that just has become a little tired with the output of both companies the last three years and wanted and was looking for something that plays out on a much deeper level.

I'm really impressed and I don't say that lightly.

Is that you Adam?

;))

I'm just kidding. :) Great that you like it! I'm gonna try it out more tonight, I'm a manual player myself. I was liking the BETA a lot regarding PA1 but got disappointed with the demo PA being so assisted again. Love manual passing but the feel of individuality gets a bit lost.
