PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

Played the demo for the first time tonight and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it after listening to all the naysayers. . .I had it on Superstar manual o speed . .the defenses were great and the keepers were solid pulling off some really good saves. .. .the pace of the game and the weight of the players felt great . . .I played ten matches and couldn't score one goal . .I came very close a lot of the time but the defense of some of the teams were excellent . .they read my moves well. . .the midfield's pressed me well anytime I received a pass . .there was no ping pong passing or charging back and forward much. .I didn't encounter many back heels or long range shots. . most matches ended 0-0 or 1-0 to the opposition who opened my defense up a couple of times with amazing moves . .. .I found that if I used advanced tactics i.e deep defense and false wingers that my team performed a bit better.

Playing as Argentina v Brazil felt great . .really good games. .. if only we were allowed tinker with the formations. .. as for the no fouls situation I got 2 or 3 each match but some blatant ones were ignored. . .the one thing that pissed me off a bit was when the cursor would pick the wrong player and ruin a good move. I'm looking forward to a Master League with Pes 2018.

I'm still enjoying the game. It's like a "less stiff" 2017. Really good feeling on the ball, though prefer the weighty feel of speed at -1.

But the main problem me is still the acres of space and the deep defensive lines. The challenge of football is finding space, or creating space. You don't have to try to do that at the moment, it's just presented to you.

I don't know. I mean, I agree that shooting and passing stats don't matter as much as they did back in the PS2 days (bear in mind that manual didn't exist back then though) but I definitely feel that, even with manual passing, trying to play tiki-taka with Colo Colo is still definitely harder than playing it with Barcelona.
Might be placebo, I don't know, but that's how I feel.
2018 i only play manual unassisted play but pes5 i play assisted play. Even manual seems watered down stats. Shoot with anyone on Inter it's like the same on target 8-10 times.

2. BIB - this is what adds to the overall disconnect between player and the game. If I charge the shot 80% from 18 yards out, the body position, ability, technique stats, and angle of approach should dictate if it flies in on goal, narrowly wide or over, hugely over, or close enough for the keeper to save. It should never translate to a weak, dribble of a shot. An 80% full shooting meter from that distance should lead to a strong, powerful connection with the ball, which may get scuffed, sliced, ballooned etc. and NOT reminiscent of a minor cough.
exactly because this is how real life physics work. Power, position, skill, foot, weather, etc: etc:

Its only few people constantly bashing the game for me it does have issues but overall I do like it. Looking forward to the final version and of course playing online.

Another weird change from last year.
When defending a corner, select a player in the box and sprint to the wings. In 2017 one of the AI players would try to track you, now it does not. Makes it easier to counter if you win the ball quickly from the corner.

i bet this isn't the only thing you could do with this much space and poorly programmed defensive AI.
This is in the game since PES 2014 and its still here :D And not only this. I Found a lot of problems since PES 2014 that they still here in PES 2018. Anyway !

Everything is made from scratch
#3yearplan
Completely new game

Amazing. The AI just concentrates on shutting down your teammates runs and does not worry about space that is ceding. Constantly back-paddling, constantly tracking players one to one and not realizing where the ball is relative to the goal or even the space you are running into. What happened here?

Excellent, thoroughly refreshing read Deco, mate.

Only managed to grab one match this evening in which I got thumped by Inter 3-0 with me as River Plate. Manual Passing and -1 speed with Advanced Shooting. Superstar skill level.

Some harsh lessons learned but almost grabbed two lovely goals if the keeper didn't save the first and the bar denied me the second time, after a nice header. Some of the play possible with manual passing is terrific and is on early evidence leaps and bounds ahead of how it was in PES 2017. I'm just going to play the demo in order to practice the manual passing game I reckon and do what like minded players like us like doing best; create and just see what is possible with the tools available.

I really do hope that I stick it out with manual passing, at least in offline play this year. As Romagnoli said a few pages back, there clearly is stats influence on the manual passing game. The game could prove to be a classic in both Master League and online arenas this year if the experience of Master League in PES 2017 and experiences of the online beta for this game are anything to go by.

Still haven't played as any of the big club teams available and have instead opted to play as any of the South American clubs against the European big boys. I rarely play as the big clubs in these games as I want to keep them as opposition in the likes of Master League, and online I don't get too caught up in trying to increase rank but just see what I can do with smaller clubs against what is more often times than not a big club

Anyway, good to read your thoughts.

Tried it against 2 different teams:

Boca -

Liverpool -

The Boca match felt better, but that's also because they get into a good defensive shell. Offensively you can see when I replay that both teams do not get their CB's in the offense and are focused on marking a player who needs no marking...because the ball is in the opponent's box.

This would receive several disgusting looks on every manager you ask.

Give the Pa-1 up cold turkey mate
You will enjoy the manual world immensely.
Would say it's a whole different game.
Do what @Deco always does,a few years out of the spotlight on Serie B:)

this game could be so, so good...

But it's let down by the empty, soulless feeling when scoring a goal

it baffles me why konami are still making the same glaring mistakes every single year

So near yet so far. Should be their motto. I could cry as I am already bored of the demo.
Flip! Was worried about that. Last couple of PES games have been decent in my opinion but my overall enjoyment of them has been ruined mainly by the vapid shooting.

Thanks for saying that. As much as I post these kind of pictures/videos - this is what I am talking about that leads to the chain reaction of space.

Serie B is where my adventure started with Benevento last year. Loved just about every minute of those six seasons with them. But yes, a 2nd division start with the defaults is how I will be approaching ML once again, hopefully backed up with a stubborn refusal to shift from manual passing!

Just played 2 vs Barcelona as Inter on Superstar. 2 Wins, 5 goals for 2 against.
1st match ended 2:0, I kept trying to test the AI defensive structure and awareness. Just give the ball to a winger or right back and proceed to run diagonally up the field whilst slightly shimmying from heartless tackles, I found myself in the box constantly. Perisic and Santon were making a light meal out of everyone in their path. Pique would occasionally jump out of the back line to challenge me but never managed to win the ball back, always tackled air. Umtiti and Alba would constantly only track my CF and RWF never stepping up to halt my advance into the box for a shot. Something seems really fundamentally broken in this demo.

In the second game which ended 3:2 for me, I realized something entirely different and something I had not before. Luiz Suarez was the only person taking shots for Barcelona. Messi kept spending time on the touch line and barely ran into the box or out in front of it to receive a pass or take a shot. Unbelievably the AI then decided to substitute Messi in the 70th minute. I checked the heat maps for Barcelona and sure enough he was entirely confined to the right side of the pitch, Neymar on the left behaving the same way. BTW once you get past iniesta or rakitic or whoever, and they are physically behind you, they sort of just stop attempting to challenge and leave you on your merry way toward goal. Kept testing this with Persisic and Icardi, they just spectate.

Seeing Busquets constantly higher up the pitch then rakitic or iniesta was hilarious, one of the goals I scored was because he had moved so far up the pitch that after a breakdown of their attack, and with Pique, Umtiti and Alba back there, I saw Icardi completely free between both centre backs who were so far apart it was criminal.

I am really putting all this uncertainty in the game down to the fact that it is a demo, with locked tactical settings and options. I hope the full version is actually functional from a fundamental footballing level, otherwise this aspect would be disappointing.

Ha ha,yeah,me I'm no Serie B Guy,probably to impatient for it,plus being on xbox,my home made kits looks like shite mate.
Being a stadium and kit man I gotta go with the nice ones.
Rumor has that Napoli and San Paolo stadium will be licensed,if sign me up for Maradona country!

Took me a while to get manual passing sorted, had a horrible two first season with Torino on 15 with manual, first season I scraped by with 2-3 points from being relegated.
And if you remember, that game could get you fired!
My main thing with manual is easy, you can play the ball in to space when you need it,and that really fucks the cpu up.
So attacking, and defending has an extra dimension to it.
Guess I'll see you in the trenches,Serie A or B for 18

Okay the Superstar AI is fucking annoying me. This lazer-guided super ultra FIFA like passing from the CPU is going to make singleplayer a living nightmare. FFS!

Edit: Apart from the player speed and dribbling, does stat even matters? Why on earth is crappy team pinging about 95% passing completion? Oh FFS, the thing I absolutely hate that about FIFA 16 is now on PES 2018.

I do remember last year I wasn't impressed with pes 2017 demo, I remember I could dribble all the way up the pitch at times, no fouls, keepers were parrying in front of player to score easy but when full release came was different in a positive way and I couldn't stop playing it, cos Adam even stated different teams make the demos and full game, and last years demo we were complaining no fouls but when release came was getting 3-6 fouls on average a game against AI When playing ML, so there's still hope.

have you tried to reduce spaces between cpu ai passer and receiver.. if you leave em empty space.. sure it should be accurate passing.. do you expect crappy professional team to misspass to their team mate in empty spaces situation ?

Doesn't matter if there are space or if the CPU is being pressured, they will manage to get almost all their passes right regardless of their stat. Heck to the point they can do 360 passes. If this is meant for adding difficulty in Superstar mode then I will move back on Professional but the problem with that is it is too easy. Time to go full manual and Professional difficulty.

Question here, regarding the "feel" of scoring goals. Are we looking for more like PES 2015? In terms of ball to net interaction?

I feel 2015 was more spot on...am I wrong here?

suarez did the flying dutchman :D

Ok, brace yourselves everyone. I know a lot of people on here don't take criticism of their favorite game too fondly, but I have to be honest about what I'm seeing. Im someone who absolutely loved the beta, couldn't stop playing it. Would tell myself "last game" knowing fair well I was lying to myself. So I will say, my expectations were raised significantly going into this demo. Most of my pros here are what was also great in the beta...

Pros:
-The pace of the AI seems a little slower than last year. I have yet to play against a team with the possession style on. So I am hoping a team will actually be able to outpossess me and take the sting out of the game when necessary. Would like to see even more back passes on the counter attack tactic.
-Overall pace still good.
-Dribbling still great, although, they desperately need a "analog sensitivtely" feature so you can run at 70, 80, 90%-and not just walk, jog, sprint.
-First touches are great. Would like to see a bit more error though.
-Defending feels good and I could imagine it feeling great if you could just bring your damn wingers back and get in a good shape. If we could just get the fullbacks to take away the flanks rather than having no clue what the sport of Football is.
-Gegen press is a bit out of control but is pretty solid overall.
-Tiki taka option works pretty well. Players show but will still make forward runs. Although, your Striker becomes a bit too stagnant instead of looking to get in behind every now and then.
-Wingers cut inside offball, they weren't doing this on the Fifa 18 beta

Cons:
-Opposite side Wingers still man mark the fullbacks instead of pinching in if you have your tactics set up to have 5 in the midfield. This eliminates the possibility of switching the play and makes the opposite side Cm wide open on most occasions. Probably adds to the speed of the build up play.
-I know it's just a demo but the inability to move players around and change formations tactically is a real killer for me. It makes the game virtually unplayable when MSN are all at midfield and you can't have Neymar track back. Defending becomes pretty impossible at that point. (It's pretty hard enough as it is.)
-I don't know how people on here excuse these 180 degree, no-look, on a dime, backheels and chipped through balls that look like they were produced as if Xavi was playing beer pong while tipsy. I've rolled my eyes at almost every goal I've conceded. Felt less that way in the beta playing against actual humans. Usually the other way around. The vision on Pes players is just that, Xavi like. I play on top player so I have no idea how the hell you all play on SS.
-Every shot is a near miss, on target, or a screamer by the Cpu regardless of foot used or stat but I don't have to beat a dead horse anymore.
-Attacking fullback option=still broken. CDM still dropping when your attack is near your box. Sucks because this is exactly how Barca play but you can't use it when Busquets is standing on the center circle rather than being an outlet near their box.
-Players make needless forward runs from the midfield with their arm raised like they're through on goal. I'm just sitting here like "Iniesta, bud, we're at our halfway line and the opposition has 10 men camped near their own box because theyre on all-out defense, calma."
-Flanks, cut inside, shoot or pass to closer option while your defensive line stands off by 4 yards, repeat. If not this than picture perfect lasered cross right onto the head of an attacker. I feel like this has been the case for 3 years now. Has the Ai offense changed at all the past three years? Serious question. Maybe a few new skill moves or so?
-Backheels when a simple instep pass would suffice.
-Shooting :JAY:
-Players still have this lack of ball awareness. It's not the worst thing in the world, but sometimes you're defending and you're like "um, guys, help." You don't feel like you have to control all 11 players at once like the other game, but it's really not that much better.

I'll leave it at that. I was pessimistically optimistic after the Beta dropped because I was afraid of how the AI would play. And my fears seem like they're reality right now. Things will hopefully be just good enough when we mess with the tactics and Konami (maybe) fix at least one of the major issues by launch time. But I'll just end it here with this: I was pretty disappointed with the Fifa 18 beta after it dropped and was enthusiastically looking forward to playing Pes again. After this demo though, I think I actually think I enjoyed this Fifa beta more. Maybe it'll be Pes for Online and Fifa for offline this year (Never thought I'd say that)

WHAT THE HELL IS GOIN ON!

First of all...i loved pes 2017. Im on offline player, master league etc. I havent wrote many times in this forum, but the ones i wrote been positive so im not a moaner. I been so excited about this game. The beta got me excited, a few flaws, but flaws i expected them to fix(except the shooting which i kinda knew wouldnt change).

Started play this demo....wasnt really sure...feels great, but a few things how the ai plays i didnt like. Still felt good about it. Came in here to see some impressions...thought many was too harsh on the game.

But then i started a game on superstar, barca vs liverpool. Thought i was gonna try more dribbling and see how it was. THIS make this game totally broken. I can take the ball with messi from own half, run straight through the midfield and defence and score using a lot of speed burst. I can take the ball with neymar run from one side of the penalty area to the other, back and fourth looking for a peefect opportunity to score. i cant do it everytime, but like 10-15 times a game. WHAT THE HELL IS GO IN ON!

And can the ai stop playing these crosses to the wings perfectly all the time.

I know this is just a demo, but why put out a demo thats totally broken.

What makes me more worried is that i tried pes 2017 demo with the hopes of "please can this be terrible compared to the pes 2017 full game"....that could bring hopes that it will be a lot of change for the pes 2018 full game compared to the demo. But pes 2017 demo was running smooth, not big difference from full game.

All of you that really likes the demo, please give it a try....focus on the dribbling and come back here and say its not broken, and that u really struggle to go past defenders.

Im not a moaner. I love most parts of this demo, but this is a total gamebreaker. I accepted the shooting in pes 2017, could really enjoy it even the bad shooting.

Im not a moaner. I still have hopes the full game will fix this, and that i can have i year of brilliant video gaming. But until then....WHAT THE HELL IS GOIN ON????

Quoting this post of mine from a couple of days ago as I was asked to try gather some feedback on this aspect of the game a while ago. Please read the bolded part in particular:

Those who do know me know I am friends with Adam. I am going down to Windsor a week on Saturday to catch-up with a friend who just happens to have a job with Konami (one which nobody has been able to accurately describe as to what the role actually entails, might I add) and play PES 2018 final retail code, I believe.

So this your chance. No more bullshit. You want to give detailed feedback and ideas? Have at it. Maybe a mod could set this up as a seperate thread if needs must but seeing as everyone has already made their mind up about the game and have ditched it, but still want to frequent here and either greet about the negatives in a hyperbolic fashion, or simply pop by to like every single negative post going, maybe you could use that time spent on here in a better way.

I'm not joking. This is an opportunity for you all.

Any replies which are passive aggressive in tone or wander off into Konami/Adam Bhatti conspiracy theory territory will go completely ignored, and will not be considered. If you wander off on a huge tangent about animations or something else completely unrelated like what EA are doing with their product in general, then that too will go ignored. I probably won't finish reading those types of posts, so if you have a jewel of an idea but start your response in that fashion (or have a pop at me) then what can I say? You had your chance, but declined the opportunity to have your input considered. I won't be wasting my time editing out hyperbolic nonsense, personal attacks, or weird conspiracy theories.

They genuinely want feedback from the "hardcore" community but if your feedback is, for example, "you can score blindfolded" it will be ignored and should be ignored because it is fake news... even more so if you are using Basic Shooting.

But the question posed is about the fouling system and what you think could improve that in either mechanical or gameplay terms.

Over to you, and remember: it is ideas on how tackling, fouling and alike could be better realised.

Posted with respect,

Curd
What a stupid godamn entitled bullshit post. Seriously fuck off with that shit. Telling people you ain't wasting time reading their hyperbole and going on a tangent while you do that all the fucking time. The fucking irony. I seriously can't take your bullshit anymore. If you really "care" about passing on criticism or complaints from hardcore pes players, then be ready for all kinds of posts. Don't give us this shit. I won't be even asking you to pass anything with that attitude. You sound worse than Asim. You go ahead and pass on all legit complaints and let them decide. You have no right to pick who's hardcore and who isn't. People are damn frustrated and they have every right to be so. Just because their frustrations don't resonate with your blindly positive hyperbole doesn't give you the right to dismiss nor ignore them. If you really want to be a good lad, be a good lad and take on all and let them decide. Tons of info here already especially the obvious ones like a lot of space, bad shooting, CPU ai one touch perfect counter passes no error, shit positioning et al.
