I thought I knew how advanced shooting worked but those videos look really counter intuitive if I understood correctly. If shooting to the right of screen, I thought you went left and up (North-West) to go top corner; left down (South-West) to go bottom corner but it seems like it's the other way around?

Anyway - from my recollection, on PES 2011 you could control height via the power bar. A tap of the button for a low placed shot and a longer hold for more power and a higher shot. Now this might mean you can't pick and choose when you smash one in the bottom corner, but I always found that how well you connect with the ball was more to do with being in stride and body placement etc so even a light tap of the shoot button could get you a driven shot low into the corner provided you were running and took the ball in your stride.

Back then I taught myself to press shoot and while I was powering up the button I would push straight up (North) to aim towards one side of the keeper and down (South) to aim towards the other side of the keeper. The longer you hold the direction (even after you let go of shoot) the wider the shot would go.

I scored this on the demo with R2 and holding down the power button over halfway but the shot doesn't go right into the corner because I hadn't held the stick down long enough in the direction. But I do love how the keeper is outstretched and gets a hand to it but it still goes in off the post. http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/CalcioCalabrese/video/21282041

For me pes 2011 was one of thr best i played since pes 6, everything felt so good in that game, people saying it got easy to master, well it was really fun to play i remember it very well, if u wanna place a 1on1 in that game u needed just to push either up for right side shot or down for left side shot, i still like that game.

i think it's were your foot hits the ball.

So basically I played the game for the first time last night, had like a couple of matches, maybe even more, and I gotta say, it's sooooo good. There are def some things that needed to be tweaked which I'm gonna point out, but before doing that, the fact that the AI is challenging and fun to play with gives me the impression that ML is gonna be hell a lot more fun than ever before.

Pros:

1. The physical side of the game has improved a lot compared to last year's and it's clearly on another level.

2. Shooting is a lot better, even tho it feels way too powerful especially when left untouched. But in other times it feels great and quite right, going wide and the fact that the keepers can catch and clear the balls. Just needs a little more tweaking with the speed and not feeling like rocket launchers. Although Heading in the game is dope, I don't know if there is a better word to describe it.

3. Crossing and passing feels good, I mean I have no major problems with the basic passing, especially that I can now use L2 for manual passing. But again I will still take Semi-Assist over it if it was an option. Crossing is op but tbh I like it that way, I haven't scored many with them so I'm fine with it. It will feel wrong tho if I'm able to do it with a lower rated crosser. It needs to be balanced out.

There are other things like the pace of the game, the tactics is really a game changer, to be able to control your team the way you want to, makes me want to play the game more and more, it's so addicting with those tactics. Overall the game just feels so smooth and efficient. Skills are so fun to use, it's a lot more responsive than last year, I still didn't figure out how to use them properly tho, I only know how to do few skills. Not to forget the GK and Ref are great and the former being the strongest thing about the game. Ball physics. AI difficulty. All so good.

Cons:

1. Omg not again with those shitty camera settings, FIFA is so much better in that regard, I don't know why PES always struggles with this. It's really frustrating.

2. The grass is so washed out, it hurts my eyes, the fake stadium in the demo is at least better looking than the Camp Nou pitch which is strange, the pitch is way too clean and the colors are so washed out, it destroys the other details in many ways. They need to be darker/greener and not so clean.

3. The animations are still not as good as it should be, it def improved over last year, but when those stun animations kick in, it gets really frustrating, sometime it's necessarily but a lot of times it just makes no sense and gets annoying. Running/walking animations need to have more proper footplanting, and when players turn left/right or around it should look more natural/realistic. Off the ball players need to look much more natural too. Hopefully by next year they add more and fix what needs fixing.

4. Slide tackling needs more variations, especially when I just want a short tackle or maybe even a jumping tackle. Also it will be nice to see more realistic falls when getting tackled, from every position. Maybe next year.

5. Kits and Nets needs a complete revamp. Those shorts are so wide and make all players hips look fat, it will be great to see the Kits/Net physics be like FIFA 17. I can only imagine how insane the graphics will look like when done.

Overall it's def the best PES since like ps2 days. It's getting there and by next year, we just might have the best PES or the best football game ever in our hands.

I wouldn't be surprised. I think the fb attack instruction throws it all off. I do think the DMF have a dependency on how many forwards the backline is facing. Of course the easy adjustment is to change the dmf to amf or cmf.

I've already tried making my CDM a CM while going forward, sadly doesn't help

These are some goals I just scored playing on Adv. Shooting.

Please note that if the keepers look rubbish. It’s cos I was playing on beginner to get enough chances to demonstrate.

just a little word about a few goals.

Goal 1: When the ball came across. I tried to hit it back keeper side holding up and left with Messi. it was a nice try, but brilliantly saved by the keeper. With Neymar I smashed it across the goal to the right, holding right and down on the analogue stick.

Goal 2: my fav one. my intention was to emphatically get this one in top corner near post, so I pushed shoot and held the Analogue down to the left. it was beautiful. The control of shooting on advanced is wonderful.

Goal 3: I had the keeper at my mercy. So I tried to fool him. Touch of R2 and up and left on the analogue to curl it in keeper side.

Goal 4: As I turned my intention was to curl it in top corner with pressing shoot then down left with R2. Didn't think it would work so amazingly.

Goal 5: I hit shoot, down and right and R2 before the ball even got to Suarez to pick my spot first time. I was aiming top corner. But it's also context sensitive.

Man.. those goals look so sexy. Nice share..

Well think of it like this, to shoot up you have to get your foot under the ball, so holding downwards, and to shoot up. you need to get on top of the ball, so you hold up.

With regards to left or right, it's straight forward with aim.

For me the freedom, choice and skill involved in adv. shooting on PES2017 is unparalleled, you can try what you want and really recreate life like goals.

The Saurez goal i scored is exactly what i intended to do, and he'd do something like that in real life.

Man.. those goals look so sexy. Nice share..

Thanks Bro, this game is great and giving Adv. shooting a try, really has added another layer of depth and excitement for me.

Just to help each other, I found this vid of the advanced shooting

That video is confusing even me. Because to shoot bottom right, it's holding up towards right, not down towards the left! as the vid states.

It's a really well made vid i wish i had editing skills like that, but those goals look unnatural, I can't put my finger on why though. and the directions seem wrong. maybe it's due to a setting maybe, who knows.

Whew!
I´ll probably break my fingers trying this :P

That´s the only possibility to perform hard low shots?
I´d like to try it but since I´ll probably get both games, this will make it more difficult to switch between both games.

Too often I catch myself to push the right stick when sprinting in PES and double tap x for a tackle in the other game :P

guys just trying to help to those who use advanced shooting. did you use inverse controls selected in the controller settings? maybe that is why controls are so confusing, try change them to normal becouse inverse controls are selected by default

:D not directed at the advanced shooting topic but i see a lot of demo videos where user dont change that. thought it was only effecting free kicks.

hi. I played the new PES 2017 game and it actually really good! seems like PES is making a comeback! i will try fifa but if the fifa gameplay is same as last year i will skip it.

PES is on the up

I always change it. I don't get how it's a default setting!
yeah right! me too. cant understand how people start playing a game (any game) without checking settings first. must be me! :)

saturday night a was at a friends place and we had some matches with the demo. he was playing fifa for years but did not have the time to play 16. i forced him to play full manual and he enjoyed it very much! we had so much fun, so much to talk about whats going on, we watched so many replays and came up with fantastic stories! plain and simple: we had an awesome night with the PES demo!

When is the wedding?

Hey to the Australian's out there, where are you guys getting the game from??
JB Hi fi has the earliest day ive seen, ie. Thurs 15th, but who knows if that's guaranteed, and its $89ish dollars (AU).
Mind you, ive contacted a store online selling it for $75ish, and the guy told me his suppliers have told him he may get the game on Tuesday 13th :).. not guaranteed, but express post would mean id get it 14th :)..thatd be awesome.. he told me to contact him on Monday.. will do.

Obviously im using manual controlled shooting but what im not getting is if I want to aim a shot high but with low power do I tap the shoot button and then pull back once my shot is locked in?

Tried advanced shooting - and it's exactly what basic and manual shooting should be doing, in terms of shot power and floatiness. It's much better IMO.

What Konami need to sort out is the balance between shot power and shot height. In basic and manual, filling the bar more leads to a higher shot, but the power is roughly the same beyond a certain point. That's fine, but the problem is that there isn't a variation in shot power. That should come from the player's Kicking Power stat, finishing stat, and any relevant traits.

In advanced shooting, the user gets to separate height from power. There should still be a dependency on stats to determine the actual shot power (so maxed out shots aren't always absolute rockets), but maybe it should be more that, if you select a power for a shot type that a player can't manage, then the shot goes more wild. So it becomes more likely that a player can manage a certain shot, provided the user doesn't put too much power on the shot, or they aim a bit more centrally to allow more room for error. Better players can afford to aim closer to the corners and with more power. Essentially the same as penalties.

I've not spent enough time with advanced shooting to know if this is exactly what's happening, but I have noticed a lot more shots towards the top corner which aren't rockets, and I've seen plenty of shots fly fairly high and wide (not ballooned, but not a threat to goal).

I like inverse free kicks, but the shooting should definitely require you pull back to aim high. I guess I can sacrifice the former for the latter. When you're taking a free kick with Inverse you press down (away from goal) to shoot higher, but you press towards goal to shoot higher in advanced shooting. They're out of sync.

I wouldn't be surprised. I think the fb attack instruction throws it all off. I do think the DMF have a dependency on how many forwards the backline is facing. Of course the easy adjustment is to change the dmf to amf or cmf.
I might be butting in on a slightly different angle to this conversation, but the term broken isn't appropriate for this anyway - it's working as designed.

The problem might be that there are a lot of clubs using the attacking fullbacks set when they don't strictly play in that exact manner, but it's a legitimate tactic based on a few teams in recent history, Barca being the most famous of those. To an extent it's why 3-4-1-2 and the like has had a resurgence over the past few years - it's a natural shift to what a 4-3-3 with overlapping fullbacks and a false 9 ends up becoming, with a slightly different slant on what positions you move into as you build up play (and the abilities of players in those positions changes because the third, central CB has more of a CB flavour than DM etc).

The best option if you want attacking fullbacks without the DM doing a Busquets is perhaps to set your sliders up to attack down the wing, use possession play, and set your wide men to AMF instead of LMF/RMF so they're more central. Your DM should stay a DM, and you should also find that only one fullback will overlap at a time so you still have 3 back.

Klashman could probably tell you better than I could.

I tried advanced through ball. . ..what the bloody hell is that all about? I tipped off the button and it went like a rocket to the far end of the pitch and when I pressed it hard it barely went 2 feet. I thought I had it sussed that it works in reverse . . .. but no it double crossed me and when I pressed it hard it fucked off to the far end?

If it's still the same as 2016, you press the through-pass button and position a marker at the same time (the marker can be disabled in the options menu, so if you're not seeing anything that might be why).

The button-press is supposed to determine the strength of the kick (and how likely it is to run on), but if you put the aim marker (which you have about half-a-second to position) way down the pitch, you'll kick it hard enough to get there.

I used to find it really helpful for putting the ball exactly where you intend to, and it stops the CPU deliberately putting too much pace on it and giving the ball straight to the goalkeeper.

But having not spent a lot of time with PES 2016 up until this last few months, I've found I can't get used to it again...
