PES 2016 News & Discussion Thread

I hope to hell PES 2017 is not another Pokémon button mashing fest. We need a game with tactical guile and football brains. Not garbage.

If not Konami then FIFA

If I find both are still a mess I will quit footy games and work on my guitar skills for a year. Atleast after that year I will be skilled in something.

Reading Chris' posts just reminds me all the years I have been doing this exact same thing too. I am less fanatical now about it, but in the last month or so it hasn't stopped me playing everything PES and FIFA across around 3/4 different platforms and I am still yet to find the right blend that appeals to all what I'm looking for; much like Chris.

I guess the closest thing I got to full simulation was my PC patched PES 2013. It had the kits, the ball physics, the grass textures, the stadia, the shooting, the keeping, the passing and the CPU AI all down pretty much. And this took around 5 months after release to get to that stage.

Been playing PS3 PES 2012/13/15 last few days, and I do think 15 is perhaps the closest I'll get to ticking the boxes I want, but even that IMO is like a 7/10 game. 2013 is pretty good but the ball seems balloony after playing 15.

I have also been playing the FIFA games on PS4, 15/16 and they just infuriate on the higher levels. Whilst PES will have that moment/moments of cheatiness that you see coming FIFA just feels like the whole thing is pretty much orchestrated, and you're just a passenger through every game.

I keep coming back eventually to the old PES 4/5/6, which just ain't right in the year of our lord 2016. It also hit me playing the PES' on the PS3 just how shite the graphics are. I mean you flick between a PES game and then chuck Last of Us on and Jesus Christ. I mean I know there's restrictions and blah blah blah, but I swear the graphics in PES2010 were a million times better.

I mean by now, Konami really should have nailed pitch colour/texture, crowds, commentary. I don't know. I honestly must have spent around 130,000 man hours on PES during the course trying this and that and tweaking and changing and editing and hoping. I just can't do it anymore. I want to pays my 30/40 quid, sit back on my sofa with my fuck off plasma and just let rip from the word go with everything being 'acceptable'. It seems this is just unattainable for both Konami and EA in next gen.

FIFA 16, while crappy out of the box with latest patch, with Matt10's sliders (latest addition of high pass speed, FB and FT) plays surprisingly well. I even see something from PES in it.

At least we have that.

Do you think he'd be invited onto the WENB podcast if he was as blunt as he is here? (Not a chance.)

What is the use in participating in the podcast then?
It's not that important, and i don't blame him, but it's a missed opportunity and he is extremely unfunny for listeners older than 12.

WENB and Konami are linked (Adam started the site after all), and Konami are pushing MyClub and microtransactions (even releasing free-to-play versions), which is based on FIFA Ultimate Team, which is a mode played by millions of kids (and a market that Konami are desperate to steal as they desperately need their pocket money).

As you say, B-Man's posts are insightful, and I agree with all of them thus far. If the only way you're given a wider voice is to change your tone dramatically and not just straight-up say "some people associated with WENB are overly-sensitive, short-sighted and at least in some small part responsible for the dumbing-down of a franchise I've loved for two decades", then, go for it - in my opinion.

Otherwise, like you and I, you're just a voice to 10-20 other enthusiasts who will never have any influence on the development of a game.

I used to post articles and produce podcasts for FSB. I loved doing it, and loved the debates, but being critical was not a way to move forward in anybody's estimations - neither the guys who were running the site and looking for financial ties with the publishers, nor the publishers themselves (though EA really do listen to feedback, which is something I've never witnessed Konami or anyone associated with Konami do - even Adam has said they "do their own thing" and that when they do that it's "when they produce their best games" - based on their most recent output, I entirely disagree).

They claim it doesn't exist.

When Konami asked how we were finding the keeper update a few patches ago. A bunch of us said they still struggle with low shots and they seemed confused. It was on Twitter.

I think the only time AB has played PES16 was against Neymar..he mustn't have tried single player

Ok guys in regards to the tron running issue with PES 2016, what is fascinating is i played PES 2014 again and there is NO tron running in PES 2014!

On PES 2014 players do not run in a looped repeat animation like in PES 2016, the running in real time and each touch of the ball is generated.

This shows just how much Konami stick to a 3 year plan. Nothing has changed in the core whatsoever since PES 2014, infact they have made the game less realistic on purpose to make the game playable.

I'm playing Winning Eleven 2014 Aoki Samurai and the animations are more realistic than PES 2015 and PES 2016, the pace is perfect. The basic shooting is great and has a lot of variation, once you get used to it you can put the ball everywhere, the connection between your brain, your fingers, the boot and the ball is almost magical.

So with the positive talk on 2014 I decided to give it a go again. Playing a couple of ML games from a couple of years ago. So far I am finding the gameplay quite good as there are a lot of tussles in midfield. And there have been fouls and bookings for the CPU, in one game there was about 4 fouls from me and 5 from the CPU so that is refreshing. But I am finding a lot of shots on target from the CPU (I'm playing on Top Player).

A couple of questions...

What is the best shooting for it, Basic, Advanced, or Manual? I practised in training mode and they all felt pretty much the same.

In ML can you manage different teams, including National teams? What are the transfers like for the CPU?

Last one, why the hell did they put the name plates above the players heads and not give the option to have at the bottom of the screen? I have to have the names showing so I know what player I'm using. Such a pain having Toby Alderweireld's name taking up the penalty area.

Thanks

This thread is now way off topic, it should be changed to the 'general football game discussion' thread.

About low shots, believe it or not PES 2016 goalkeepers are more reactive if you edit the defensive prowess to 99, many have tested this out.

This swapping between versions is making me/us crazy - I guess that's the result of an unfulfilling pes16. Im agreeing with those who think pes/we2014 is the king of the new generation pes games. Ive recently been cycling through the ps3's versions of pes14 demo1 (leaked demo), pes/we14 demo2, and pes14 original version with updated patch. I ended up playing the demo2 for about 2 hours. The demo's definitely have more frames per animation, and that's probably why the response wasn't great, since these animations weren't sped up unnaturally to increase response. Anyways, I ended up buying Winning Eleven 2014 Aoki Samurai and im glad I did, as its the best of the pes/we14s. Animations and natural flow of the game of soccer/football are amazing, even if the response takes a little getting used to. Animation wise, its definitely the best looking game of soccer ive played. Running, side footed passing, side footed shooting looks so much more natural than it does on pes15/16. The ball physics are amazing as well, and there is actual variation in the shooting. Still overpowered - due to last patch, but ive skied one way over the bar when pressing and holding shoot for too long from a bad position. As a result, ive started playing pes14 on the pc, as the resolution is much better, but things just don't run as smoothly as on the ps3 version. Pity, cause it pes14 looks so good on the pc. Ive noticed the grass at night on the pes14 pc version actually looks markedly better than both pes15/16 ps4 or pc.

Now continuing on the craziness of swapping versions to experience the best each has to offer, I played a pes version I haven't touched in 3 or so years. PES12 ps3... I remember really being disappointed with it at the time, i think because countering was really difficult as the defence was always deep, and as a result most goals were a scrap fest in the box. But i played it the other day and wow...I actually really enjoyed it. What really stuck out for me was the ball physics, and how HEAVY the ball felt. Totally different to pes13 which suffers from an unkonami floaty ball. Also, the dribbling was amazing.. from running slow to suddenly bursting through and past players.. really good system. Similar to pes13 but better i reckon. Pes 13 had the advantage of introducing full manual, but i think that had an effect on animations, which I reckon are better in pes12 - seems less rigid than pes 13. Although I like pes13, particularly due to the introduction of full manual pass and shoot, I actually prefer pes12. It had the 360 movement, but no full manual pass. You did however had unassisted passing though, ie. 0-4 bars which effects direction and weight of passing. works well.

Anyways, the craziness continued last night where I gave a pc patched pes16 ago. It runs like butter on PC (unlike pes14 which is a shame), and I have to say I actually enjoyed it more than the ps4 version..

The full circle of nuttiness is complete..ill make another round over the week... but atm, its between we14 Aoki Samurai ps3 and pes16 pc pactched (sweetfx, stadiums, balls, camera customisations which are amazing I must say)... with a bit of pes12 mixed in....

I've tested that and still doesn't work.

I tried back and forth using my edited EDIT00000000 file and the default file. Using the same teams. On manual shooting with the default EDIT00000000 the goalies can't react to the R2+square low shots, while with the edited def prowess the AI keepers blocks more shots. And for the users, you need to move the left analog direction + triangle.

Does the AI ever try high shoots? Still havent seen it.

I think they shoot high only on volleys and first time shots. When they dribble they tend to shoot low or at waist level at most.

I conceded a top corner goal yesterday, it was a first time shot from the edge of the box, looked pretty sick

I'm in the same boat. Played WE2014 BS and PES 15 but I keep trying PES 16 because it's the latest. I'm trying to get the best out of it.

Can you tell me what's better in the PC version? Are the keepers better and are fouls called at least?

This year for me is no more Pes, in every form. I'm being occupied by other games, waiting and hoping Pes 2017 will fix the most annoying Pes 2016 flaws.

Advertising only dude.
The rest of the time is working and spare time with familly. (Trolling and blocking fans on Twitter) Problem dear? :)
He is only kind for people don´t undestand about videogames. Done. "I'm learning is life."
Problems with the game? Send a real Letter to KONAMI instead. Maybe they will get the right "understanding".
They can´t read letters? Go play FIFA instead.

after putting 20+ hours to Fifa 16 PS4 I can say for sure, that the pitch is ours claim was not true. At least not for me.

I cannot find a single aspect of pes which is better than fifa this year.
Ok faces, but who the fuck cares about faces..

Gameplay is more random, referees, keepers are much more consistent, ball is more free, shooting variety you cannot compare, not to mention updates, game modes, presentation, etc. etc.

What we are experiencing in the last 9 years is a decline of an once great franchise, lead to death by incompetent Japanese company and incompetent, arrogant community / brand managers.

Next year I first time in my life I will buy fifa first and test the pes demo and read the expressions here before deciding. And I will buy a physical copy to be able sell it if it wears of quickly..

You are right this thread has gone completely off topic but it just shows how much most people dislike PES2016.

I have started getting into PES2014 now, but I don't want to post anything on the PES2014 thread in case I accidentally read something negative about it that I hadn't noticed :P

C'mon you Spurs Tottenham Tottenham no one can stop them!

Now that is so off topic. :APPLAUD:

We shall see, still got some tough games coming up. But was quite impressed with the Fiorentina result. It's funny how goals change. At the start of the season I would have been happy with 4th but now I'm beginning to dream and finishing outside the top 3 will be a little disappointing now.

Are you talking about Spurs, Pes 2014, Pes 2013 or Pes 2015? Im actually still playing Pes 2016 and enjoying it. Treat my ex (Pes 2014) with love and respect.

Yeah true that, it's like this every year actually. I also don't play the game that much, I still play PES 2015, but I don't dislike it though.

Oh geez let's not go down that slippery slope again

PES does lots of things better.

PES has the basic approach right. Righter than FIFA. I mean, the way they understand football and how it's supposed to work on a game is the right way. But that's just the surface. They lack the content and variety.

I prefer manual, as you shoot in the direction that youre pointing the left stick. Its very different to advanced and basic, since if you point 90 degrees up from the goal, itll go 90 degrees from the goal. On basic, if you point up, itll shoot for the left (facing) side of the goal. Advanced is similar, however you can shoot low, mid height, and top corner.

Btw, if you use manual shooting, I recommend also holding down L2, for the arrow indicator.. this is for better precise aiming... Generally I don't use the L2 indicator for manual passing, but for pes14 it definitely helpful. This is because for some reason manual passing on pes14 isn't as precise and easy to perform as it is in pes16. I never need to use the indicator for pes16 as manual passing is easier to perform...
