PES 2014 Discussion Thread

The AI is quite excellent, but of course their final third play need be improved. Sometime they prefer to have a go rather than making a cutback. Game can be hot & cold at time but generally it's positive.

PES 5 and 6 both had massively exploitable goalscoring methods that were practically guaranteed goals (a free kick lay-off exploit and a maxed-out R1 lob which was in there as far back as PES3), as did 2011, 2012 and 2013 (R1 dink). Supertalk, I assume you mean R2 as in the finesse shot, given that the R1 dink shot doesn't exist anymore?

If you hold down R2 and press shoot there's a good chance of the keeper saving it, but if you shoot first then press R2 immediately after, like we did with the R1 dink shot, he hits a slightly lifted shot a couple of feet off the ground. If you do it as the keeper approaches, he'll dive under the ball 100% of the time at least in my experience anyways.
 
So, I was wondering about this 'heart' feature and am convinced it doesn't work. It's essentially a secondary form arrow that doesn't move or do anything. I tried a couple of friendly matches tonight and noted the heart of the players before, during and towards the end of the match, and their heart didn't move for any of them. The feature simply doesn't change, unless it doesn't show on the game plan, in which case you'd think why bother with it if you can't see which players are playing badly, and if it does, then I can't notice any difference.

Also, I took another look at the PES2014 video from E3, the one where Kei Masuda is being interviewed through an interpreter while playing the game. The interview claims the players have a direct relationship with the crowd, so doing poor passes causes the crowd to get on their back, and that in turn makes their heart get worse, and the opposite goes for doing good things. They claim the crowd respond to good things, and their performance will be felt in player control and accuracy.

I actually bought the game looking for this as a major new feature and to my knowledge it doesn't seem to exist. Fom my experience with the game, the crowd doesn't respond to anything beyond what it did in previous games, and player performance certainly doesn't fluctuate during the match.

Not only does the feature not seem to work, I can't find any evidence that it's even there.

Yeah i have been trying to identify where this feature actually makes its presence felt within the game. There is nothing to it as far as i can see beyond an entirely cosmetic arrow stat. It seems like a buzz word created to sell an idea rather than a real, visible part of the game.

Of course the crowd responds to the events on the pitch, they start chanting when you put pressure on your opponent and create chances.

The crowd responds to trigger events in exactly the same way as in previous PES games. It gets excited when you get into the final third of the field, if you shoot, score, make a tackle etc.

There's absolutely nothing that I can see to suggest the crowd gets on specific player's backs or encourages others, let alone have this based on what you make each individual do with the ball.

Plus, given the heart feature doesn't appear to change during the match, then Konami's promo videos about how the crowd and player influence heart for each individual seem a bit confusing to say the least.

I can't see any evidence this major selling point of the game is even here at all.
 
Heart itself is extremely influential on player form though. It seems as if the form arrows are rather irrelevant now and you should only look at heart when deciding which players to play.

Trouble is, heart turns my team and the football game into a sluggish non-repsponsive mess. A properly functioning form or heart would be welcome in my opinion. No need for both as far as I can see.
 
Indeed, it is way too overpowered right now. It would also be nice to have the option to play league mode without heart. Right now you are forced the play with it.

This and Top Player/Superstar should be made far more difficult. Professional isn't challenging because defending is too easy, whereas scoring is way too easy on Top Player and Superstar.

It's an odd thing. It gives us what people wanted which is player form dependant on team form over a stretch of games. However, it gives us the only game ever where developers limit how smooth and enjoyable the game can be to only part of your experience and they do it on purpose.

My point is that Konami were at E3 promoting it as a dynamic feature that happens during a match due to how you make players perform. This was also supposed to be down to how the crowd react to your actions with individual players.

From what I can tell, this feature is advertised but I can't find any evidence of it in the game. Not in the way that they described at E3.
 
Heart as an overt mechanic is completely superfluous as it ostensibly only gives a stat boost. No different than form arrows really.

Now if it were truly dynamic as they suggested during E3, that would be a valuable addition.

Anyway, should we press or hold d-pad command for deeper line/offside trap ? I think i just push it longer in a situation when the ball is on cpu in their half, then my defender going deeper leaving cpu attacker, and midfielder is coming to replace it. I need to learn more how the system actually work.
 
Did anyone see Hull's first goal last night against Spurs? Now there's a goalkeeper I've seen in PES 2014, so it's pretty realistic afterall. ;) :p

Ok don't start the list with Boots and faces FFS. Bugs bugs bugs and more bugs. That's first and foremost then what about online?
 
Exactly what I was thinking. It's like they're thinking adding boots (who the fuck cares about boots? I just never understood that, you can barely see them) and faces are the most important thing now. Damnit.

That's not true, crowd response works way better in PES 2014 than in any other game before. The intensity of the chants and who is singing depends on the events of the pitch.

Apart from that I don't think they ever promised crowd responses to certain players. It only works for whole teams.

They say in the E3 video that a player making good passes etc will get a favourable reaction from the crowd and that in turn will boost him individually. But given that player heart seems to remain static throughout the game then it doesn't work either for the player or team as a whole.

And sorry, can't agree about the crowd. I don't notice it being any more responsive than previous games. In fact they've even managed to screw up the audio in a lot of it, often the crowd is really intense before I score, then when the ball goes in I get this bizarre muted applause.

Like that Jett guy says in his WENB video review, there's nothing about PES2014 that works.
 
Just for the sake of it I started a game of PES 2011, and what immediately stands out is how fast the menu's are in that game compared to 2014. Not only are the menu's in 2014 ugly, they're also dead slow.
 
So it is true then, while defending.. you can adjust your defence line by holding the d-pad button (longer) towards your GK to preferred level as showed by moving line inside the grey area shown on your radar.

After just losing the ball, I now can make my defender more quickly goes very deep (with combination of gameplan slider) and let my midfielder guard cpu attacker. However, timing is also important since, there could be open hole for cpu pass happen while defender is goiing back leaving the cpu attacker and midfielder is still on their way to replace them.

I know I am not well-informed but this is great, can be used to counter lob through ball spammer :BOP:

Mate, you should have noticed that sometimes the crowd scream for a foul or a strong tackle. For me it's clear this year crowd reactions are more lifelike than ever in a PES game.
Could be improved of course, but better than in the past.

Jett needs to step down from that star approach and be less demagogic and more balanced IMO.
 
The crowd sound effects are definitely there, and they react to different scenarios. There can not be any dispute there, it's blatant. How that then translates to the 'Heart' feature is another argument all together.

I think I mentioned the lag in the menus before, it's not just in-game play. Everything about PES 14 lags.
