ok I edited Cardiff city's tactics to be a 3-2-3-2 formation with max compactness. played two games against it using Arsenal. So this might not be conclusive but I do see the AI attacking down the middle a bit more often but also using the flanks when there is space to be exploited, remember Arsenal's full backs overlap a lot.

I find it is ridiculously easy to play defense this year. You just need to go near player and he will auto tackle when in right position.

Heck I could defend only pressing X/Square (the teammate pressure). Press it so AI locks player down with your team member, double tap X for him to tackle the ball. Simple and effective.

If you pressure AI, they will hoof the ball upwards with long ball or play ball out of field. I wonder if they will fix it as have seen same behavior from AI from 2012 onwards.

Don't let AI to play and they go into idiot mode. Superstar or not. O_o.

Have someone else noticed such thing or am I going paranoid?

No, it does not look better. It looks the same for the most part. Except for Japanese players being licensed and having faces, nothing seemed better.

Even Goalkeeper punching ball into his own net remains (1:10 in that trailer).

So yeah...

Even though the trailer look poor in certain part, i applaud them for using in-game footage exclusively. When it comes to video game trailer, 100% what you see is not what you get. But that's not the case here.

"Current-gen Fox Engine visuals look "near indistinguishable" from the real thing, mag reckons."

Hmmmmm wonder how many the lad who wrote this had to drink. Dissapointed this year is an understatement.

In my opinion, the faces that carefully made to look like its real counterpart looks fantastic. Playing PES 2013 and changing to PES 2014, the lighting does look great. Anyway, not all of assets in PES 2014 will take 100% the full power/quality of fox engine. Current console will lag so bad and we'll need to raise PC minimum requirement. In addition, caability of graphics engine does not necessarily equals to likeness; of player, but more into capability of generating detailed output.

There's nothing wrong with that animation. It shouldn't be removed. If it happens irl then it should stay. We just ask it be reduced.

Criticism of this game is getting hysterical now. There's a lot wrong with it, and yeah, that gets more obvious the more you play - as it does with any game. But is it really worse than PES 2013, which everyone thought was shite at the time? I'd agree that it's a less balanced game than PES 2013 was at the end - after all its gameplay patches. But a worse game? People have short memories, too - the last PES game was drastically improved with a patch, in the same kind of areas (does anyone remember the original PES 2013 goalies?). Why shouldn't this one be?

I've said all along that it's completely unacceptable to release half-finished product then leave the patch until mid November. Unbelievably crappy behaviour on Konami's part (well... all too believable, in fact). I do understand the frustration - I share it - and I can understand people's problems with the game in general, even if some of them don't bother me so much. This is a game that needs a lot of work; you'd have to be a lunatic not to see that. But the worst PES game ever? Even in its current state? Short memories, man.

I love griping about Konami as much as anyone, and I'm certainly not in the habit of defending them for the sake of it. I just don't see why the verdict seems to have shifted from "this is a game with lots wrong with it, which needs fixing ASAP" to "this is a shit game." They're not quite the same thing. One can be fixed with a patch, the other can't.

If the patch, when it comes, is a massive flop, we'll talk again...

Exactly. People seem to think that in real life the keeper either makes contact with the ball and saves it or misses it completely and it goes in. This just isn't the case, keepers will frequently get a hand to the ball but not be able to keep it out. There was 2 in this game alone (near post too):

Nothing you can do against a Robbery mate :D ;)

I understand where you're coming from but i ask myself is it necessary to show such a goal in a trailer after most of your fans complain about your goalkeepers. I don't understand it.

ffs. Hart is crap realize that shit already.

Check what Boruc does for Southampton. That's how Goalkeepers should be like in PES.

Hard to beat. I don't care if they try to make game realistic with pathetic keeper reactions. It's video game. It's supposed to be hard to beat and achieve success. At least on top levels. Not the case with PES 2014, where on Superstar Buffon does a fluke like keeper on that video!

Show me Buffon, punching ball, into his own net. Seriously...;)

I have no problem at all if goalkeepers making some mistakes here an there. I don't like superhuman goalkeepers to be honest. But most of the mistakes at the moment are just so, so unrealistic. Weak shots straight at the goalie, weak shots near post - we know them all. You can make silly looking mistakes or you can make mistakes that look like mistakes in real life.

That is the difference and if you take a look at the video from Bayern against City the goal from Ribery was a very good shot with a lot of speed an power. Robbens shot too and Robben was very close to Hart. At the end Hart could have save both of it but at least you could say "okay, he doesn't look good at all but it wasn't that easy". You can't say that about almost every goalkeeper mistake in PES.

The frequency with which the keepers perform the 'palm the ball into own net' manoeuvre is whats annoying not the fact in real life keepers can't always get enough behind the ball to prevent a good shot from going in.

That animation from the WE trailer is not so bad on second look as it is a powerfully hi shot with swerve and the keeper is diving for it. However, in PES there are too many weak shots hit directly at the keeper where they just turn sideways to guide the ball in.

@infoO I understand your frustrations with the keepers BUT put on the highlights between CSKA Moscow vs Viktoria Plzen
And ul see that the keepers aren't that bad in pes apart from the awareness glitch that should be sorted come November.

I saw a round up on BT sport of the weekend's football and there were loads of keeper errors, but that was a small collection of keeper mistakes taken from hundreds of games that took place that weekend across the whole of Europe. Just because people see a few keeper errors from one weekend doesn't mean it's okay for PES to have them in virtually every other match. Keeper errors on TV are shown because they are out of the norm, a handful of errors taken from hundreds of games where no keeper errors took place.

If I saw silly keeper errors, say, a handful of times in hundreds of games, I wouldn't complain. That'd be realistic. But if I see a silly keeper error every other match then the proportion is way to high to compare it to real life errors.

For those who don't know, this is what Ive been up to....

I'm sure it's not only me that has had these type of thoughts in the past....

The type where you book a great holiday, plan a great weekend, get tickets for a concert or event, and then worry but hope that nothing fucks up before-hand to ruin it ?

99 times out of a 100, everything goes smoothly, and you get to experience the thing you'd been so excited for without any issues. Then you get that other 1 time that threatens to ruin it for you....

This was one of those times.....

I'd booked tickets for the UFC event in Manchester this weekend for myself, my son and two of my best buddies. We'd gone balls-out by booking two top class Apartments in Manchester, fully loaded with everything you could possibly want.

The schedule was set, arrive in Manchester Friday lunch-time. Attend a UFC Fighter Autograph session with 5 top UFC Fighters. Then off to a Q and A session hosted by Chael Sonnen, followed by the UFC Weigh-Ins Live.

Then check-in to our Apartments, have a good drink, play some UFC or PES on the PS3, utilising the apartments 42" Plasma. Then get showered and changed and in a Taxi to Joe Rogan's Live Stand-Up Comedy Show, for which we had 4 Front Row seats.

I'd even ordered us Joe Rogan T-Shirts for us all for the night, and had them imported from the States. Just for the crack. As well as treating myself to a Lyoto Machida Hoodie for the weekend.

So with Friday Night sorted, and the UFC Event and After Fight Party at The Hilton secured for the Saturday night, everything was shaping up nicely.

After a very quiet weekend by anyone's standards, let alone mine, I woke up Monday morning with a very sharp pain to the right of my stomach. A trip to the Dr's saw me blagged with a Hernia excuse, so I went to work. The pain increased dramatically throughout the day before I finally left work and drove straight to the Hospital.

After a 3 hour wait, I was then examined. Within minutes. I was attached to a Drip and a meeting with a Surgeon. Not what I was expecting at all. Drugged up to the eye-balls, I was taken to Ward 31 for an overnight stay, with constant checks. The symptoms pointed to Appendicitis.

Sure enough, I was carted down to the Operating Theatre the next morning where I went under the knife and had what the Surgeon called a 'nasty infection' of the Appendix removed. Along with my Appendix....

The 1 hour operation ended up taking 3 hours, such was the severity of the infection. But thankfully, and very luckily, my Appendix hasn't popped, otherwise it could have been a very different story.

Although it certainly won't stop me from going to Manchester this weekend, even though I can hardly walk right now, I feel lucky in a way that this happened Monday and not this weekend, when I probably wouldn't have even gone to get it checked out. As the partying would have numbed it. Then I could have been in serious trouble.

Anyway, I've just been released from Hospital, and my wonderful fiancé is taking great care of me. So it's a case of plenty of rest and onwards and upwards.

Thanks for all the kind words from those who knew and got in touch. Much appreciated, especially Andy Ogle.

Manchester here we come baby, Zimmer-Frame or not, it's only for the hardcore, and only the strong survive.....!!

So that was last week, I'm well enough to get out of bed now, so thought I'd give PES 14 another whirl. Impressions later, good and bad. But sometimes, searching out the genius can help nullify the niggles.

Really loving my ML with Boro, and finally I scored a goal from a very much in the long-range category....

The atmosphere I can created is unreal, the best ever....

Great goal jimmy. You always been a ledesma fan.

Re:the GK errors
The highlight packages we see and the goals conceeded are indeed similar to the ones one PES but PES has it wrong contextually. IRL keepers are wrong footed orbadly placed as wellas the amountof swerve or Power that the ball has.

PES does not do agood job with the shooting physics and what we get is a shortcut to mimic these effects. was playing with barca and hit a shot from just outside the box. It didnt seem particularly hard but was heading to my intended target. The keeper palmed it intothe net when irl he would just have reach out and grabbed it. It was dissappointing to see it happen but feel the general pace oftheplay in the game may have something to do with it.

Close range shooting is well replicated especially the heading but from outside the box it becomes schizophrenic. I am saying this far too much but konami needed more time with this game.

it's not this animation, it's just the goalkeepers in general are awful. I sometimes play a awesome match and then for some reason the goalkeeper does something stupid. It ruins the experience.
