PES 2014 Discussion Thread

The crowd sound effects are definitely there, and they react to different scenarios. There can not be any dispute there, it's blatant. How that then translates to the 'Heart' feature is another argument all together.

I think I mentioned the lag in the menus before, it's not just in-game play. Everything about PES 14 lags.

Did anyone see Hull's first goal last night against Spurs? Now there's a goalkeeper I've seen in PES 2014, so it's pretty realistic afterall. ;) :p
Dude, Joe Hart has been trying to prove us all season long - PES keepers' skills are indeed realistic.

PC demo is out, finally?!

This is most interesting part. Last modification date. 23.10.2013.

Either they fixed some stuff (I hear manual shooting with R2 is fixed and you can head normally now).

Will check myself, installing now :).

For some reason, I can feel gameplay being better here than on retail 1.01 version. If it is, then I have no words for how this company works anymore O_O.

EDIT:

YouTube - Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 PC DEMO - Bayern Munchen vs Man Utd - HD

Here is video taken on Demo.

Shooting from outside the box now has power. Pretty much what retail misses.

It's probably same code, PS3/X360 users got with their 2nd demo. It feels faster then retail game too.

Passing is crisp and goes exactly where you aim.

Still fouls are uncalled. This needs addressing in November patch. As game end foul less .

Still Goalkeepers need work, but... I feel player awareness is much better here. O_o

Shame that games are limited to 5 min halves.

Still an issue with player switching not being as fast as for example PES 2011.

So it is true then, while defending.. you can adjust your defence line by holding the d-pad button (longer) towards your GK to preferred level as showed by moving line inside the grey area shown on your radar.

After just losing the ball, I now can make my defender more quickly goes very deep (with combination of gameplan slider) and let my midfielder guard cpu attacker. However, timing is also important since, there could be open hole for cpu pass happen while defender is goiing back leaving the cpu attacker and midfielder is still on their way to replace them.

I know I am not well-informed but this is great, can be used to counter lob through ball spammer :BOP:

Love that feature, although it lags sometimes when I press the d-pad.

You're not joking. I love that bit at about 3:03 where Van Persie just gets clotheslined - BANG! - and the ball rolls away slowly. No foul, no appeals, the crowd don't even react, and Jon Champion says "Easy pickings, really."

You'd think that if they were going to tweak, this would be one of the first things they'd do, just because it should be one of the easiest things. It stands out a mile - they can't just not have noticed.

Indeed. He literally got tanked down :D.

Btw anyone saw any injury? Except for cutscenes where the player gets taken from field and gets back. After you foul him 2nd time hard, he gets off injured unable to continue, but... Any long term injury? Asking those who play Master League/League mostly.

Here is screenie from 5th game on demo:

Top Player. I was playing as Germany. The score is not important here, but Fouls count is ZERO. ZERO!

I believe I have seen 1 freekick in 15 games I played so far. Mind you it wasn't freekick for me, but AI  (after slide on player who shot the ball).

What Supertalk already noticed too, AI is easy to lock out and just pass the ball around. You can get ridiculous possession vs AI. On any level.

IF anyone feels I am annoying with constant moans, realize for once, that we have been giving KONAMI and PES Team far too many chances for them to deliver proper PES title.

It's 7 year of waiting. SEVENTH. We trusted them, gave them money and instead of repaying the trust with effort, they just shit dump on fans back.

You believe other successful games became successful overnight? No. It takes time, patience, lots of effort and willingness to make changes, even if fans don't like them.

This is why some companies are where they are now and can be proud of themselves.

Hopefully KONAMI and PES bounces back in 2014 with PES 2015. Next-Gen ready? :)

Exactly what I was thinking. It's like they're thinking adding boots (who the fuck cares about boots? I just never understood that, you can barely see them) and faces are the most important thing now. Damnit.

No freaking joke. They think after the bs of poor refereeing, shit keepers, walking dead defenders, non-reacting forwards, slide tackles on ice that cause you to collide with somebody 3 seconds later, etc. that the focus should be on adding more boots?

Perhaps next year they can hire some actual testers from the general public to play a dozen games and tell them what's broken because they sure as he'll didn't get anybody to test it who had their eyes open this year.

Today I quit the freaking game, took it to GameStop and sold it back. d/l FIFA 14 and despite a few faults, it's a much better game.

While we are waiting for their patch, i found something interesting in PES facebook page last week..

Haha, why am I not surprised? If that's official, then this is basically official too - whoever is running the show over there has gone completely mad (it's not like we didn't already know, this just confirms it).

Player switching is instantaneous. The difference is the point at which the game registers that you want to switch - it switches when you LET GO OF L1, not when you press it. There's no room to change that - they need to be able to wait in order to tell whether you're planning to use the right stick to pick a player or not.

If you want to switch players more quickly, let go of L1 sooner.

So they changed something which worked fine, for no apparent reason?

Why do they always do it the other way round? Why do other companies remain sane and don't touch something which works fine?

Sorry, that game design choice is just weird if it's working like you described.

The design choice is absolutely fine, and given that you NEED to hold L1 to use the right stick to change player (which again is a good design choice because it frees up the right stick for other uses in defence and in attack), makes perfect sense.

It's dopey to think that the 1/10th of a second added onto player switching as a result of this is a problem. It simply isn't. The problem is the 2 or 3 seconds you lose because it doesn't switch to the correct player first time, or using the right stick completely bugs out (online), or the defender you're trying to select isn't making a tracking run in the first place, or you simply aren't allowed to select that attacker in the box who could tap in an easy finish because the game's decided the heavily-marked player behind him should be the only one allowed to go for the cross.

This.

If I don't see the following things fixed in the next patch I'm getting rid of the game (though how, I don't know, it was up for sale recently but had no takers).

- increasing keeper ability from close range including not angling their body so they palm the ball into their own goal, and not diving under shots.

- manually instigated player runs used to go for a short distance, in this they run for about 40 yards and keep going even if they're 30 yards offside.

- defenders ignoring their defensive lines and tracking forwards who run miles offside (were it not for the tracking defender!)

- COM defenders randomly opening up and letting you walk the ball into their penalty area

- there needs to be some success rate to long shots. Even 1% would be better!

- remove the fact that you can always chip the keeper or shoot then press R2 after to lift the ball over the keeper's dive when close by. Two guaranteed goals.

- the ref giving free kicks against you if you catch a player with your leg as you follow through after kicking the ball.

- the COM MUST stop looking to get the ball wide and pass it low to the near post. It drives me absolutely nuts.

- at least have SOME variety of goals you can score beyond headers and one-v-ones.

There we are, if those things are ironed our then it might be a good game, albeit with virtually nothing to do, game mode-wise. I'm not sure any of these count as bugs though, and seeing as I don't think Konami have actually mentioned 'gameplay fixes' in their patch description then I'm not getting my hopes up.

That sums it up mate, well written. i am letting Adam Bhatti know for checklists, as he is probably testing the new patch.

Nowt impressive about the WE trailer.
Nothing to suggest that any of the shite that currently infects PES will be addressed by Konami.
Of course i hope there will be a comprehensive patch but there is feck all in the WE trailer to draw any conclusions from.

And yet on 1:10 in that exact video you can see keeper palming the ball into his own net. Give me a break now.

The focus in this trailer is solely on Japanese players I guess.

Ah well, none of us will be any the wiser about what gameplay fixes there might be for PES from that WE trailer.
Worrying snapshot of the keepers palming the ball into their own net as per PES. Apart from that nothing to be gleaned.

Interesting guess. They can take until christmas for all I care as long as they knuckle down and improve the keepers, shooting, headers in the box and player switching.

And AI + online input lag. Right now, offline is shit because it is way too easy to beat the AI, while online is shit because of input lag.

AI is generally fine for me and online, well, never been there with PES. Still, hope it's fixed for those that do play in that world.

AI defenders don't track runs of your players when you use L1+X, which makes it stupidly easy to score. On top of that, superstar is broken and no harder than professional/top player. I was winning the Eredivisie with freaking Go Ahead Eagles in my second season in league mode, and beat Olympique Marseille, W.B.A. and Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League, on superstar difficulty. That just shouldn't happen.

I don't get this to be honest.

Did you ever see a long shot attempt from the AI or did the AI ever scored a goal after a corner kick against you? How can you be satisfied with this?

And why is it so that almost every clearance from the AI is a perfect pass to the only striker? That is something i hate so much because it feels so wrong. And if you take a few minutes of your time and take a look and some old PES5 or 6 videos you will see that in the old times a AI clearance was a clearance. So they know how it should be.

I like a lot of these points, number 1, 2 and 5 are perhaps the most annoying. The last two come close, but I've seen teams going through the middle as well, I think it might boil down to the team tactic sliders. I might do an experiment by giving the AI a narrow compactness and formation and see how it fares...
