PES 2014 Discussion Thread

Well lots of opinions around...while there will be people who likes the game and people who dislike the game. Same goes for every other game and perhaps even other subject matter in life! Girls included :P

And so people will share opinions, some for merely as expressing, some hoping to influence, some like to say whats on their mind, others prefer to keep quiet, etc etc. Just live by your choices.

To sum it up, let me express some magic by RVP, Man Utd irl misses his class and cutting edge...enjoy :)

I could play a bit of pes 14 day in day out, because it does have some great things going on. The bad things ended my immersion fast, and so it was the way i used the game. After experiencing fifa 14 NG with a mate who owns the ps4, i just can't get back to pes 14. Why? Fifa 14 just blew us both, with its intuitive controls, wich promote great football matches and where no goals are the same. Tactically and dinamically pes still edges it, but after trying to play football on both, fifa NG clearly is the smart choice. We just grin in joy with the gameplay possible, and keepers are a bonus to the show! Goals in tight, tactical battles feel like football heaven. A lot of out of the chair moments in the game, like in the old ps2 pes games we used to play to death.
A very enjoyable game vs another human. I can defend in numbers when i want, attack fast or slow, strecht my attacks to the sides or go for the direct middle runs, mark players, press high up or sit back..., but the real joy is shooting and the simple left stick dribbble/choice of direction, a must in any football game. Simple things work, and lay a solid base to advanced things, who'll be possible later in our experience with the game. A feel old pes games had, the sensible, rewarding learning curve.
In a few words? Fun game, representing beter than ever the fundamentals of football.

IMO Fifa NG is same old crap with a 1080p coat.It actually compounded my love for PES.
If you dont like PES2014 you may as well skip 2015 as this is the foundation for the series now.

I for one cannot wait for NG PES. This engine is ready for the new machines
 
I think its a bit unfair to compare the next gen FIFA with PES2014 as its pretty obvious that FIFA is benefiting greatly from the new hardware.
Its just a shame that they could / would not implement proper foot planting in the game. I played PES2014 for the first time in ages earlier and the way that players plant their feet and shift weight was fantastic. Another thing, I really hope that Konami add analog movement in the next game, the lack of it made the game feel very out dated and limited.

Exactly how I feel.
 
Just got the game recently. Does the through ball behaviour change in the final third? It feels too powerful. Goes too far even when I don't press the button for long. I have pass support set at 1 bar and through ball set to Advanced.

It's harsh to say skip 2015 if it was just CG then yes I wouldv, but being a NG product u would assume that game will be developed a lot better, you would think but cause the trust is lost with konami you don't know what your gonna get come release date, regardless of what they show us prior to release, it's been like the that for quite a few years now, Adam and co always seem to play a different and better code to what we play. Also we are in the year 2014 and they give us a master league which to me feels like it's been made in 1998. U can't support that seriously.

How is it harsh? PES2014 is the basis for PES2015.

I am anxious to start Ml but waiting for patch 1.06 on the ps3 to start my ML. I am more concerned with on the pitch stuff which Konami have done a great job at and buying the young stars so its fine with me not seeing the annoying secretary telling me the same thing before and after every game.

Ps you couldn't change clubs or coach national teams in 1998 ;)
 
Saying "if you don't like this one, you won't like the next one" is just plain wrong.

I thought PES 2010 was crap, it was the basis for PES 2011 which I enjoyed more than any other football game. I disliked PES 2012, and that was the basis for 2013 which was really good at times...

If they fixed the major issues with 2014 and substantially improved certain areas, I would very interested in the next version of the game.
 
Yeah despite not liking PES 14, im optimistic for the next game given the engine. If they can reintroduce the technical side of the old games with the new physicality and collision engine they're on to a winner.

Just a pity they didn't just release a better version of PES 2013 as PES 2014 and worked in the shadows on PES 2015. Do they have to have amazing new features in every version. Answer is no. If they improve it just little by little people will be happy. That is what they did with PES on PS2 and 5 was the peak and 6 was a faster (not my cup of tea) copy of 5 with even better features. You all remember the spectator mode? I want that back again, where you could comment on the game during it! Magic :D

Perhaps there won't be 1.06 patch for consoles. As far as I heard, 1.06 on PC turned online competitions into cheaters' galore once again. If it's going to be fixed anytime soon, it would most likely require new client-side patch too ... 1.07, 1.08, whatever. And then, what are the odds for seeing yet another elusive "In addition, we've fine-tuned each mode to improve your overall gaming experience" note in patch notes? :P
 
I want to just say this, please compare pes 2014 CG with fifa 14 CG . I played some of my fifa fanatic friends y.day and they admitted that pes 2014 is far better than fifa 14 CG on the pitch . I had a couple of games with my friends y.day, all i basically did was press L1 and X and wait for my attacker to run forward and press the very OP lofted through ball and the ball floated with accuracy and to my attackers feet regardless of stat, yes i checked .
The annoying thing is that it is possible to use the the lofted through with anybody and anywhere on the pitch skipping the entire midfield totally, infact u do not need to go through the midfield it was so glaring to the point that my fifa fanatic friend started doing the same too. I also noticed that the defensive line of teams on FIFA CG is outrageously high yet i have never seen a situation where a player is very much offside it is always very slight, leads me to believe the game is very scripted, to top it all off i scored with messi and robben's right foot with such alarming accuracy especially robben who is the most left footed player i know.

I also saw keeper bugs, although i admit that the keepers on Fifa are better they are not without their problems. I saw keepers throw the ball from the post past the centre line standing on one spot , mind you that will never happen on pes 2014, i noticed that cassilas on pes 2014 especially and some keepers will take some steps back to throw the ball in to make it believable and if you do not knw it is a stat on pes 2014, go and check the keeper stats and you will see for yourself. The worst is that some keepers on Fifa do not kick the ball as far as they throw it . There is no footplanting and everybody feels and runs the same way. Please wait for konami's nextgen effort before magically claiming that it will be terrible personally from what i have played, the lofted through ball is still as much of a problem on CG and nextgen Fifa.

Do not even get me started on OP crosses and corner-kicks on CG Fifa . The next-gen hardware gives Fifa a lot of power to do a lot pls wait for konami's effort before saying it is due to fail. I see a lot of problems with CG Fifa and i do not see anybody talking, this got me thinking that the problems pes 2014 has are basically a matter of tweaking while the problem fifa has is very fundamental. It is a very sad case of double standards, in my opinion comparing a CG game with a next-gen game and claiming it is doomed to fail jst because it is pes, to me pes 2014 plays like football, feels like football and there is far more freedom in it than any other football game on CG or any other pes iteration, and it should be seen for what it is . Let us wait for Konami's nextgen effort before we judge them.
I am very sorry for the rant mods, i jst had to vent my anger after playing y.day, I still went back to pes with all its issues I'm still a happy pes-fan anybody who doubts what i'm saying about the L1 triangle should try it out from anywhere on the pitch.

Don't imagine we'll see a really good footy game again. Those days are just over; games have become inceasingly superficial just like everything else. Everything is just flat. We're out of quality human resources who can actually capture that core football feeling into a game. Seabass had that capacity since he was old school, but these new kids.. Nah.. Whats to expect..

There is only one game I look forward to and that is Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain. Hideo Kojima has been able to keep his talent and integrity intact and still produces deep, heavy, quality games. Don't know what happened to the Pes team.

The PES team has stuck to their guns imo. Yhe game is stats based and player individuality still rules the core gameplay.

Seabass was a swear word here not too long ago. Plenty people called for change and were happy to see him go.

Football games have actually come a long way. Maybe you have just outgrown them.

@eazy. Trust me NG is the same. How people can call that a reenactment of football on the pitch is beyond me. Lobbed throughballs are the order of the day and the amount of headers I havr scored is mindboggling.

Yeah AAA games have but now they cost tens of millions of dollars to make (including marketing of course) and need to recoup as much money back as possible which usually means they get the technical side of things spot on with little personality.

It's funny you bring up something like that new MGS game because that series and PES both remind me of games sitting somewhere between a Western and Japanese-style. They are both very expensive games to make by Japanese standards and unlike many Japanese games are made to appeal to Western gamers as well as Japanese ones. As the years go by they've both become much more like western games than they used to be.

I do feel like I've outgrown the current football game duopoly but neither title has come that far in my opinion. Not as far as I'd like anyway. Underneath the lacquer that is the initial wow-factor and impressive animations, both games feel quite shallow and one-dimensional.

My view is that PES has become a victim of its own success. The desire to appeal to a broader audience and the subsequent need for more and more licences in order to do so has blurred Konami's vision. Gaming is big business now and when the money men get involved it's rarely in the interest of the gamer.

I will freely admit I am nostalgic for the old days when Konami knew exactly who their audience was and built the game for them. The casual and/or fickle gamer wasn't a concern. The gameplay was so advanced and so deep that very little else mattered.

Somewhat ironically the thing you complain about in FIFA has been also rampant in PES for several versions now, even more so in PES2014. One of my biggest complaints was the fact you could aimlessly chip a rough pass at near full power and your forward would somehow be allowed to muscle his way to the ball due to the high defensive lines and dodgy defensive AI.

Just sayin'.

This is interesting, I feel completely the opposite. I have been playing fifa 14 NG on Xbox one for the whole week. To be honest, it's not bad at all, and it's certainly an improvement over cg fifa. Today, I have decided to go back and play pes2014 on ps3 and boy, the game felt a step head of fifa in terms of animation, gameplay, simulation of the real game, player models. I am surprised at how many are critical of this game despite the quality I see it provides. I really have high hopes for NG pes games.

i have not pressed L1 triangle on pes 2014 and the ball magically hunts and finds my attacker on my 3bar and 2bar assist settings i notice a margin of error with my lofted throughball . please take your tym on CG fifa and see if it doesn't home in on your attacker.
I even noticed that because of pes 2014's off the ball movement and the fact that sometimes your attacker can get to the ball before a defender , Fifa CG actually slows down your player because the game has decided that a particular player must get this ball first.
Today kerian gibbs and muller were chasing a loose ball , muller was closer to the ball than gibbs in fact i expected muller's AI to trigger and pick the ball suddenly all four players in the vicinity reduced their speed and gibbs got to the ball first . I almost smashed the controller, that is the reason why Fifa can never fully introduce footplanting and inertia because it will expose a ridiculous amount of scripting. Today i saw a keeper stand after a failed attack without his legs , He jst bounced right up it happened almost three tyms in different games . I urge people to check for themselves , the lofted throughball is more accurate than a short pass.............. im so done.

Nice one easypeazy. That's exactly how I got my friends to play PES rather than FIFA. Our weekly footsim & beer evening wasn't the same after I scored 8 goals a match and I didn't even use it straight from kick off. I figured it would be too easy to spot what I did then. You can basically do it whenever, with whomever and the striker will score regardless of ability in most cases. Pull backwards to pull make the opponents defense move towards the center line, send a player on a run and do the "magic" combo. I'm sure there are even easier methods.

I went unbeaten for an evening playing with different Championship teams and Norwich while my friends played their regular clubs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

It's pathetic, really, how that slipped past the playtesting.
