Thanks lads. :TU:

I'm really keen to give next-gen FIFA a try. I'm sure it will be on a demo machine in a games shop somewhere if such places still exist.

Anyway, I'd better get out of here before Lami tells me off for being negative. Keep the positivity flowing chaps!

Yeah me too, someone might tell me off for mentioning the 'other game', and for talking about a game I no longer own. Which would be fair enough really!

;)

"Another thing which is driving me crazy is the first touch of the attacker when he breaks the CPU defensive line and he's through on goal. It doesn't matter whether it's Suarez, RVP, Stephen Hawking; it doesn't matter if you use sprint to knock the ball on further or just the direction on the controller, the first touch will always bounce miles in front of the striker toward the keeper. "

Sorry, but this is simply not true. I dont have proof as dont make frap movies and etc, but yesterday i scored a beautifull goal where i caught the ball , did press RB twice, my attacker ( oscar from chelsea ) continued to run full speed ( no cb catch up bug ) and then i did a curly lower shot to the right side of the goal. Simply beautifull.

Now ... been playing since iss pro and we2002 ( memorable game ) and yada yada yada... i read evo web for years but almost dont post anything.

If you asked me 4 days ago .. PES 2014 and especially after 1.04 patch, I would say it was utter crap. Even worse , 1.04 was utter crap even worse than original 1.01 PES 2014. And when i mean hate and crap, i mean i just wanted to start a movement for everyone to pir*t* the games and make everyone on KONAMI starve to death from no sales. This game can get really really frustrating.

The last couple of days i have been playing better. I managed to increase difficulty ( moved from professional to top player ) and games are very very competitive.

To me, the complete change of the way one controls the players is the main cause. Especially defending ( has nothing to do with pes 2013 ).

Once you get the hang of simple feints ( very simple , not kind of youtube special feints ), way to mark and defend ( not always tackling, but mostly containing ), jostling with the right stick ( when done properly is very effective, more than X + RB and also protecting the ball) and control of the player with the ball in quick change of directions ( the cpu does alot of fouls , some really hard, never seen a direct red card, but seen alot of cpu players getting yellow cards ) ... then the game seems completly different.

as of now I am liking the game ALOT and I really mean alot alot!... but i can feel you guys who hate it. I hated it up until friday night, more or less, where i started to try to play really different.

About the slow motion, on my PC ... even though i dont have missing frames ... when i put anti aliasing and etc on max quality, the game is very slow , although no frame skipping. So speed -1 feels right to me ... but has to be with graphics cards configured with anti aliasing and other settings on medium / low.

As a sidenote ... the game is very realistic!! i just saw this weekend , my favorite team FC Porto, play on real life like i played PES 2014 a couple of days back ! Really !! really boring, lifeless, no ideas horrible defeat. I completly related alot of movements and plays between game and that real match.

forgot to mention:

I usually get scores of 1-0 / 1-1 / 2-1 / 2-2 ( either winning or losing ).

I play 20 minute matchs ( i dont like any less than that ... usually until pes 2013 i played 15 minutes , but changed to 20 minutes ... seems to be more or less half an hour real time ).

Another note ... Special attention to the cpu tactic ... if its 1 or 2 tactic i am ok ( specially on 2). If they put the damn 3 tactic ... they go for full attack / pressure and i am really specially carefull when in that situation, the bastards get really troublesome ( although a great way to score on good counter attacks ).

Shooting to me is on basic. Never understood how advanced worked. In PES 2014 1.01 with advanced shooting, the shots were very crappy and i hitted the crossbar alot. Basic at least i can do really powerfull shots and they seem really good.

Haven't touched FIFA so I wouldn't know, but PES this year is just so frustrating.

Firstly, if you crank it up to Top Player or Superstar like I've done in previous years the game is just a pressure mess, which probably has to be played with three bar assist and sprint button held all day long. So it's basically professional or lower.

I find one bar professional about the sweet spot for TRYING to get something simulation out of it.

The build up play from the human POV is probably the best yet. But the CPU build up play, or rather your team mate AI and the general unresponsiveness means it's a fucking nightmare to try control the action, especially defensively.

Once again I am left scratching my head at piss poor team mate AI, inexplicable CPU controlled defending on the human side, and just downright shite goals scored by the CPU, which inevitably can be traced to poor keeping. If you crank the game down to -1 or -2 speed then shooting and shot power becomes a joke, and the keepers flaws are highlighted even more. I'm talking 1mph daisy cutters outfoxing the keeper.

On gamespeed -1 even, some of the CPU shots that my orange/red keeper is just letting in or pansying is laughable. Combine that with the CPU keepers catching almost everything, and yes, I'm beginning to see like a lot on here that shooting/keeping is indeed pretty borked.

I don't get ANY satisfaction out of scoring any more. It's as simple as that. I am left totally indifferent as to when the ball finds the net. At least in 2013 (eventually) you could feel the shot more even if it was less recognisable than say PES 5/6. God, in those games the 'feel' generated through the button press and controller and a firmly hit shot was just magic. Something which has been lost.

Another thing which is driving me crazy is the first touch of the attacker when he breaks the CPU defensive line and he's through on goal. It doesn't matter whether it's Suarez, RVP, Stephen Hawking; it doesn't matter if you use sprint to knock the ball on further or just the direction on the controller, the first touch will always bounce miles in front of the striker toward the keeper.

It makes it difficult to predict therefore which momentum stride is needed because the first touch is just so random. The first touch when clear can even be as bad as the ball going 5-10 yards in front of the player even with no pressure on him.

Keeper palming the ball into his own net from near post. Just a game breaker.

I could go on and on.

Such a shame.

My patience is finished with KONAMI. Us PES fans have been about as loyal as any followers of any product since gaming began. We started the journey with you way back through the grounding days (PES1-3), we saw improvement after improvement and you gave us games with such atmosphere, feel, soul and emotion. Through the PES 4-6 years, I lost half my life playing those friggin' games. I cared about it. I cared about the players, I cared about nurturing them, and got lost in my own little football world. I STILL think about some of those games EVEN NOW....and I'm 31!! Whilst life moves on and priorities change, those memories will always be there because those games meant something. If you loved football, and were a football man appreciating tactics and player stats, and right/foot left foot variables, then PES was THE GAME.

You could play those games for 8 months solid and still see something new in the 9th month. I VIVIDLY remember losing a Champions League final to Inter as Liverpool, 2-1 with an Inter late goal. I can remember the emotion even now of the sheer deflated disappointment, my hands were as sweaty as fuck, as I was blocking, and blocking, and I couldn't get out of my box, and there was more pressure and more, and finally they scored a 92nd minute winner. I remember the whole week was geared to that final, the expectation. I made sure that nobody was around whilst I played that memorable 20 minute match. I can even see the winning Inter goal now in my head. THAT'S HOW MUCH PES MEANT BACK THEN.

Even defeat was utterly glorious.

Why? Because the game was so fucking good.

We then ENDURED the horror years when every other genre was taking things to the next level.

I then saw some light with 2011, which at least tried to emulate some simulation into the game. 12 was a turn for the worse, and 13 (after a million patches) became at least a solid playable game.

But this....I don't know. It's a cross between the best in some areas, and quite possibly the worst in others.

Many good things like I say, but it's 2013 and as a product it can be only be described as completely unfinished. It simply isn't good enough, and I've had it.

Us PES fans we tinker and potch and alter and manipulate everything from player stats to gamespeed, to the modes, to the camera. We then try this and that and change resolution and aspect ratio and blah blah blah to try and get the fucking thing to function like a £40 game.

We are promised every year, every single year, that this year will be the best. Everything is in hand. If anyone at KONAMI gets slated by loyal supporters they are slapped down. I've shelled out more cash over various platforms for PES than I'd like to admit. So yes, I am entitled to a fucking opinion on it to all those that bitch that KONAMI owe me nothing.

The game clearly isn't finished. Last year the game wasn't finished. So many things wrong in all areas. I haven't even mentioned online which over the years has been a travesty.

Anyway, that's my little rant over. It's back to playing a patched Championship Manager 01/02 and my PC patched PES 6.

To all those getting something out of it then all the very best. But as an occasional gamer these days, I really can't be arsed with trying to fix your game myself and put a 1000 hours in like I have done each and every year to try and fix it.

Anyway, good luck to those that persevere.

My opinion too, 100%. This game has too many flaws this day and age. The good things don't hold the ship. My patience isn't there anymore. Miss it dearly.

based on suuuuuuuuuupertalk football gaming history i predict him begin complaining about the other game in the other game thread until the end of next week, trying to sell the game after christmas and buying it again in the end of January.

I know you're only kidding around but I do post about other games without loving and hating them. Some I post about with nothing but positives, probably because these other games were actually decent products of consistently high quality.

After playing FIFA this week, there is no doubt this will happen

I´m joking with you, mate! This year i am also enjoying the other game more than PES :(

First time ever...

For which team does this Stephens Hawking play ? Seems like he's tonnage be a big STAR unless he disappears in a big black hole of course. Honestly, he has a stellar carreer.

If you can't stand the constant pressuring and the lack of space and time to keep the ball a bit, there is actually a cure: Editing!

Because I'm playing right now the spanish league, I edited all spanish teams. The two aspects I changed are: Defensive compactness and defensive line.

I felt the defensive lines this year are set too high, so I reduced them by 5-10 points for each of the 3 tactics.

Reduced then defensive compactness to 0. Yes, it's a bit extreme but I wanted to make sure that the wings are guarded.

I saved the edit and had to start a fresh spanish league campaign to use the edited tactics.

From then on I had much more space in the midfield, a bit too much actually.

So I have to moderate my changes a bit.

The point is we can customise our experience with the game.

Regarding the goalkeepers, I'm sure it's possible to increase their stats for defensive awareness and other things to get them to be more reliable.

Wow rather tight ass response. I seem to get that alot lately. I said it in jest due to your constant 360s with PES2014.

Peace. enjoy FIFA not sure if I will get it myself when my PS4 arrives. Got killzone and Bf4 on order.

Sorry, I took you as being sarcastic. Was a long day yesterday.

Hope you enjoy your PS4 when it arrives, I think you'll like it a lot :)

I think there is possibility to mix automatic and manual defense approach.. for example you are guarding a opponent's midfielder, then you see another off the ball opponent making run at the wings or other place, before the opponent player make a pass to their team mate, change your cursor to your other player next to running opponent to track him, hence manual tracking. Automatic means your other defender track off the ball opponent without your control.

However regarding GK, sometimes they are slow to react after 1st save or even not reacting at all is because of waiting 1st animation to finish and then take time to read the next animation command. The latter hopefully can be improved via patch, but the other cause does not seem so.

Respecting everyone who turns his back on PES and goes playing the other footy game.
I did that too last year.

Just checked out videos of the other game on the PS4 and have to say that I don´t like the animations and everything on the field at all after I´ve experienced the gameplay of PES 2014.

Surely videos ain´t enough and it might be fun to play for a while.

But I´m an animation freak and because of this I don´t really have interest in trying the other game.

The movements on the pitch in PES 2014 are so close to real life in my opinion.

It´s a matter of taste though.

Good day everyone,

so english is not my native language, I will try to be brief. After patch, this game become way better, I liked before but its much more fun now. But, there is something that is very annoying, is the lack of shots on goal trajectory. Its feels too much scripted imo. Goalkeeper never dives in shot that passes narrow the goal post, almost like he already know that the ball will go out. I dont know how to explain it properly, it just feel too fake to me. I never saw a single finger tip save putting the ball above the bar or the ball hitting the crossbar and going out. Long range shots resumes in, keeper super saves, out of bounds or of the post. Looks like this was the solution that Konami found for bad goalkeeping but goalkeeping reactions for long range shooting never was the problem in any PES. I dont understand.

High defensive lines still a big problem, too easy to exploit it and the matches become repetitve. This is the kind of situation that must happend only when you, your opponent or the CPU are losing and playing all out of attack, trying desperate to score a goal. Not everytime, no matter which tactics you're using.

Peace.

if you dont want the ball to bounce away to the keeper on the first touch you have to release the d-pad or analog whatever you using for players movement and press R1&R2(super cancel) for a half a second or rather as quickly as you can just as your attacking player is about to receive the ball about half meter away from the ball and receive the ball only with the d-pad/analog. now as soon as your player touches the ball you can press R1 again to run this way you dont lose valuable speed try it

peace

Now nearly 3 months post-release - would it be interesting to create a poll on who's playing what?

We could find out who's actually still playing and enjoying PES 2014.
And if some have went back to PES 2013 and also those who've switched to FIFA 14. Maybe some even have taken a sabbatical.

For the first time ever; I'm considering buying FIFA as I'm in dire need of a football fix. 25 quid on PSN store is tempting.

Maybe this'll open Konami's eyes..

I don't see the game's as rivals really. They're both pretty different and I'd wager that a football fan could get something out of both of them given their difference styles. Fifa is and probably will always be the king of pick-up and play, which shouldn't come as any surprise. It's only playing the game and expecting it to evolve in some capacity which is the problem because it doesn't; what you see on the surface-level is basically what you get so many people here tend to get bored pretty quickly when they scoot over from a PES mentality to a Fifa one (and vice-versa).

In contrast, PES' virtues have always been in its depth. It's what gives the game something and makes the choice between the two (from a consumer perspective) real. If it continues along the path of 2014 then I don't understand what the series is aiming for or perhaps even how it's going to continue in today's market. PES 2015 is an important game for the series. It's probably going to be a much better representation of what the series wants to do.

There's a lot to be said for pick-up-and play games and on a personal level that's kind of what I want from a football game now.

The thing is, PES used to have the dream combination of pick-up-and-play gameplay accompanied with a huge amount of depth that rewarded further play. PES2014 doesn't have either of those things in my opinion. Gameplay has become a bit convoluted (particularly the control system) and the depth isn't there. Player individuality - the series' hallmark - just isn't what it once was.

PES2014 has become the shallow experience that FIFA is notorious for - the instant wow factor but scratch beneath the surface and there is nothing there.

You're right, PES2015 is massively important for this series.

@All -

I'm still on the fence on whether or not to take the wrapping off of FIFA 14 (PS4). LOL! I'm wondering if any fellow PS4 brethren purchased PES 2014 on ps3 before jumping on board to PS4...How does the gameplay compare (obviously, the ps4 should get the nod on graphics I assume) between the two and which of them is more 'sim' and less 'scripted'...I'm on the fence whether or not to get a ps3 (great deals at the moment) for pes 2014 (and apf 2k8 - need my football fix as well beyond madden 25)...OR should I just wait till next gen pes 2014 for my soccer fix.

I thoroughly enjoyed the PS3 demo for PES 2014, but of course, with the next gen release of FIFA 14, I'm pondering on whether to take the leap of faith to FIFA 14 for now or give PES 2014 a go...Like I said, I was impressed with PES 2014 demo on PS3, but with all the mixed opinions throughout this thread I'm starting to second guess....

Thoughts? Cheers fellas!

I am having a blast with this game. I have put my playstation on 576p in the tv settings. The game now looks like a PS2 game and play like a better version of PES 3 or 5. The fun is back and if I keep away from the sprint button the cpu play with a lot of variety. Played a few Porto-Benfica(me) with Lucho pulling the strings in midfield for Porto and my right back Perriera bombing forward all the time, so lots of individuality.
Theres still some poor goalkeeping at times, the cpu often cross low to the near post and theres almost no fouls, but after almost giving up on the game, I really like PES again.

damn, the link is dead, what did Konami do this time?

@SandTheMan

But mate, why the hell should we have to mess with the resolution settings and lose the definition to get the game to play better. I mean that's why we buy these big TVs with a zillion pixels to play these 2013 games in all its glory?

damn, the link is dead, what did Konami do this time?

It was a photo of a huge crowd in Iran (I think) supposedly watching a PES tournament at some convention centre. Unfortunately the game being played on stage was FIFA, with a clear EA logo in the top corner of the screen. So it wasn't a photo of a PES tournament at all.

Beyond belief.
