Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

i guess i can say goodbye to my social life now..
0a5f.jpg

after over 2 months of this picture, the difference is abysmal.

GTA V is one of the best games ever created: has nearly perfect controls, a lot of content and stunning visuals. The online mode could be better but it's pretty impressive for their first real attempt at it.

PES 2014 is the most dull, boring, soul less footie game i've ever played.
This truly saddens me since i've always been a PES fan. I was blindly hoping the datapack or update would solve some of the inherent issues but it was too much of a harm done to be ammended by some updates.
I hate playing nearly every match in the same stadium, lack of options, rain, cutscenes (even if most of the people hated them), lack of depth in football life modes, lack of stamina system (i played almost a whole season of ML campaign using the same 11 with no stamina problems), etc, etc

End of rant

Can't you use manual passing (zero assist) to get the same effect?

Sure, you can, but the COM makes good use of the through pass mechanics to the same degree you can, so I was thinking removing through pass entirely would alter the way the COM plays against you. It's all a bit pointless really as I can't see Konami taking it out of future versions.

I'd like to see the through pass button completely removed. When I used to play the 'other' game, I just set through-pass to be a completely manual button. It made passes into space much more difficult and satisfying to pull off. In the case of PES, removing the button as a function separate from a regular pass might encourage Konami to programme an AI that doesn't so heavily rely on it.

I agree 100%. Lami mentioned this in 2012 already.

I remember PES gone by where a easy way to score was always removed for the next iteration. PES this gen it was not the case. Konami seemed so intent on playing catch up that they didnt have time to streamline constantly chopping and changing without adressing the fundamentsl issues.

I hope konami get it together on the next gen. Sometimes refinement is better than revolution especially for a yearly release.

They have all these online comps surely they see the same scoring patterns over and over again.

I tried the game out for a good two days after the patch 1.02 for PS3. I can just say I was very dissapointed and decided I would only try the game again when it comes with a new patch. I won't invest any time in such a broken product more than to try out the new patches. Broken games can be okay for the first week when you usually know they'll be patched after feedback. But to wait for patching during the whole lifespan of a bought game just to have it 100% playable 6 months (like with PES 2013) after it came out is not something that deserves any of my invested time.

ok i tried to tweek the keepers - tenacity, saving, goalkeeping - abilites one by one but every time the result came off from the robocop keepers to the pre patch rebound keepers(geez scored such silly-"im a keeper why would i care" goals that are..), no fine line between them :(

anyone with bigger succes? because i fear even with increasing the shooting power of every striker wouldnt affect the keeper awerness

I think the ball being shot itself has limited direction at goals, i notice there are some GK one handed save animations to left or right that always result in the ball is always blocked by him. Meant, never goal when he attempt to do this, heavily scripted in some situation. I feel sometimes GK can jump very far regardless his initial position or situation.

These two parameters what makes PES2014 feels less unpredictable. :))

The day when we will see this unpredictable goal scoring and GK reactions, is when the non-GK players is bad at Goalkeeping itself.

Imagine PES 2014 animations or graphic, with this moment

Other than silly and badly looking tricks, I don't see any single play in the 2014 video that is better or more exciting or more unpredictable than all the PES6 videos in the other compilation.

Deffensive awareness and goalkeeper reactions seem to be way worse in 2014. How did we got to this point 7 years later?

The gk no goal save i mentioned before turns out wrong, haha. Look at 1:06, it can be a goal never happen to me.. and his long rangers is rare. how many PES 2014 version konami release ? lol

Damn! These long rangers. Never seen them so far.
I wonder whether that is post patch.

Btw,
who of y´all is playing with stick and who with d-pad?
Since I started playing PES 3 on the PS2 I always used the D-pad.
Always worked nicely, even with PES 2013.

Playing PES 2014 I kind of really feel the limitation now when steering my player or passing the ball.
About two weeks ago I tried to switch to analog stick, but yesterday I gave up and switched back to the d-pad.

I just can´t get along with the stick. Holding it accidently in the wrong direction too many times :(.

^ The stick took me a day or so to get used to with the PES2009->2010 transition.

Anyway, the latest patch did some good and some bad in my opinion.

- AI works better defensively, they position themselves better and if AI team's compactness is high they will most likely be a pain in the ass to tiki-taka yourself through.

- The AI is even better than before at blocking off passes and shots... almost too good.

- The AI seems quite creative in attack unless you manage to force them to isolate their striker. Many AI teams play a formation with one striker and they are prone to become isolated if handled correctly by the human player. I think this is good, because that is the problem in real life as well. Look at Tottenham at the moment, for example.

- The AI seems too aggressive on the ball carrier. This would be fine if the human players were not so sluggish. The AI also seem to have a very short acceleration time compared to human players. Inertia doesn't seem to affect them much and human player direction changes are often reacted upon by the AI before the actual movement occurs which creates really silly situations. It also makes AI defenders seem somewhat like mind readers beyond what is reasonable even by the best defenders in the world.

- There are hardly any situations where defenders try to contain a human ball carrier, they just barge into a physical duel that they usually win without breaking sweat. This makes stopping nearly futile and makes the matches too intense and rushed because there's hardly room for a breather. If you try to pass the ball between the defenders, the AI striker will often haunt you and catch your defenders having a poor touch and using unreasonably long time to recover control.

- The AI doesn't seem to see any adverse effects on stamina as a result of this extremely high pressure over the course of 90+ minutes. A human player with the same strategy will see his team utterly knackered at 45-55 minutes.

- Poor players in the hands of AI doesn't seem any hampered by low technical skills or any other abilities for that matter. AI Mertesacker still outruns the likes of human controlled Lennon and AI Lahm will utterly destroy human controlled Ibrahimovich with a shoulder tackle 9/10 times.

So, some of it can be remedied by reducing Front Line pressure for all teams which is inconvenient since there's no way of doing this globally. Much of the arcade stuff that is implemented in the game such as defender catch up and other stuff like AI completely ignoring their players' individual weaknesses is beyond repair.

The game is quite fun until a certain point when you realize how utterly stupidly it is coded.

EDIT:
This is tested on Professional difficulty. I'm almost tempted at testing on Normal, maybe they've made it a viable setting for a more simulation focused player even if it may prove a bit easy.

EDIT 2:
I had to test it on Regular setting just for the fun of it and it was, as I expected, much less arcade-ish. Much of the player individuality seems to be back on track and physically strong players actually feel strong. Defensively the AI was still decent, they weren't as disinterested in the ball as Regular setting has been for a long time (2009 or maybe even longer). The AI wasn't as creative going forward and while they did pressure you they were much less frantic about it so you usually get time to receive and pass the ball around for a bit.

I actually think the game seems best on Regular setting, albeit a bit too easy. If I lean back and relax while playing, it will probably become enjoyable on this setting. I do play this for fun after all, so if I let off the pedal a bit I won't completely thrash all opposition. It will also give me a viable chance to play youngsters and out-of-form players much more regularly and I'll use my preferred keeper regardless of form so I might even lose a match here and there.

I just have to say being a lurker for the most part, that I did initially enjoy PES2014 but the many many issues with controls/slowdowns out of the box as well as outdated rosters took too long to fix and I've sort of left it by the wayside.

I have to say as far as PES games for this gen, I didn't regret buying PES2010 and PES2011(I really thought they were going to get it right after 2011). I really had a blast with Community mode and features like the Time Management tactics. Having skipped PES2012 and PES2013(I bought FIFA 13 instead), didn't have time for footy games in 2012(it was Skyrim and Battlefield 3 year).

I really had high hopes, while the signs were good initially with the demo, the full game left too much to be desired. Lack of online modes, lack of almost everything with bugs on top of it. I really wished I skipped this iteration and didn't waste money on it. Really reeks of unfinished product as well as not having enough to redeem it's deficiencies.

I used to believe gameplay was king back in the PS2/PSX days with old PES but not anymore. I hope the developers and producers realize that and we have a proper game at least for the next gen consoles.

What this game is lacking is intensity. Why doesn't the CPU challenge more for the ball? They should be tackling and jostling much like the player.

What I could observe is that gameplay is vastly different between the modes. For example I found cups, like international cup very easy to play and win on top-player with little pressure.

On the other hand playing the mode "League" the pressure is considerably higher and it's more difficult to win.

So far enjoying playing the spanish league with Athletico Madrid, but I wished the CPU were even more challenging. Sometimes it's too easy to just grab the ball from them, at other times they shield the ball well.

The other thing that I wished to be improved is that the animation-lock is get rid of: In some situations when I pass the ball to a player he gets entangled in some animation and I can't do anything.

And then there are situations when I switch to a player and he doesn't react to my input, ie. he doesn't run or come closer, instead he just does his lateral movement he did before as if I hadn't the cursor on him for another 5 seconds until he reacts to my input... of course it's then too late.

Acceleration is a too easy mechanism to get out of trouble. For example my defender has the ball and he is alone and a opponent striker closes in on him, and then I just press the run-button and the acceleration is so big that I easily get out of trouble.

Then there are situations when one of my players makes a run at the wing as if he would doubleback my other wing player and run through but just at the moment when I prepare my pass, he stops, at the same height as me, which didn't make sense, he should have run through as his run promised to do.

This game needs a lot of finetuning, though not completely unexpected due to the new engine.

Nonetheless I'm still enjoying the game.

I take that back... The AI doesn't really attack properly on Regular. They score on an odd (scripted?) counter attack.
