I think the ball being shot itself has limited direction at goals, i notice there are some GK one handed save animations to left or right that always result in the ball is always blocked by him. Meant, never goal when he attempt to do this, heavily scripted in some situation. I feel sometimes GK can jump very far regardless his initial position or situation.

These two parameters what makes PES2014 feels less unpredictable. :))

The day when we will see this unpredictable goal scoring and GK reactions, is when the non-GK players is bad at Goalkeeping itself.

Imagine PES 2014 animations or graphic, with this moment

since pes2008 the game went downhill, look at these videos pure joy, and no not that really arcade joy because it was hard ass stuff to score goals like this
, i believe the old team was dismissed when the xbox360 and the ps3 arrived and a new young team started to work on 2008 or they been forced to do shit soccer games since then, but im voting on the firing scenario because soon Seabass followed them because he couldnt make an impact with the new team, new engine
and i believe Kei Masuda's reign will be over too in 1-2 years, sure he will get another chance

tell me PES 2014 isnt shit after this, pretty sure some of u havent played these games or barely can remember of them thats why u praise 2014,2013 etc. An advice just dont try the predecessors if u still want to enjoy PES 2014 and im outta here really now. shitshit shit game

comparing pes 2014 to its predecessors i must say build up play on the old pes iterations was waay to simple. were pes 2014 lacks in the shooting/scoring department makes up for on build up play! all they got to do is find a perfect balance. saying Kei Masuda's reign will be over too in 1-2 years i dont know about that. i think he did a really good job despite all problems bugs and niggles pes 2014 has konami are on the right track

Is there a button command to close your legs when defending an opponent's pass? R2 doesn't stop a pass from going through your legs.

Well I take it no more posts from you here then.

Enjoy the other game!

I thought i would share a quote from a recent post of mine on another thread. It helped me to see why i struggle to get into both PES2014 and FIFA14

I was playing my ML last night and once again i realised why i love this game so much.

After a good start beating Crystal Palace at home i have really struggled in the league. Losing 4-0 at home to Sunderland, drawing 0-0 at Hull, losing 2-1 away to QPR. So it hasn't been good.

Anyway the reason i love this game so much. I had a home game against Sunderland in the DIV 2 cup 1st leg. Very aware that i was beaten 4-0 by them earlier, i decided to play 5-4-1 formation. I just need to start keeping clean sheets so that i can earn ML money to buy better players. The game was so so tense. I almost conceded in the 1st minute which would have ruined my whole game plan. But anyway throughout the match we managed to defend from the front. It was such a tactical game. I really had to concentrate with my defending.

First of all when Sunderland had the ball in midfield i had to make sure my midfielders blocked the spaces but once they got past one challenge then the defenders would be brought up to do the job and once they won the ball they either kicked it up field to my striker or played simple passes. What i noticed though was that Sunderland were trying different approaches to try to penetrate my defence. They would pass back, to the side, occasional through balls (low and high) i tell you i had to concentrate so much. On 15 minute games the time goes slow so that all adds to the tension.

It might have seemed that we were playing a bit boring but i was really enjoying it, it was almost like chess. The feeling of relieve i got when Sunderland put the ball in the box and our GK managed to catch it. I would hold the ball for a bit to let the team regroup and then start again with a roll out ball to try to build from the back. We too would pass back, to the side, waiting for our players to make the runs. But the fact that i was defending in a bank of 4 and a bank of 5 was making this game so interesting.

This does not happen in any PES or FIFA from PES5. It was so tactical it was amazing. Do i take off my tired DMF who is having a good game and bring on a CMF to play in his position? The decisions were so important. As i said things like that do not happen in any other footy games that i have played.

The game finished 0-0 and i was so pleased to be able to go to their ground now to try and get the result. With the away goal rule one goal may be enough. The draw also enabled me to pick up 400 ML points that will go towards getting me out of bankruptcy and hopefully better players.

That is why i love this game so much.

For those that continue to play PES2014, do you get those instances in games where you actually feel quite nervous about playing? or it's backs up against the wall time when you are just holding on for a result?

I have not played it as much as you guys simply because i want to play something i enjoy and going back to PES5 had me laughing like a little girl again and enjoying those nervous moments when the CPU gets a last minute free kick just outside the box.

It's a shame because for me it is lacking that 'soul' or 'life' that PES 5 has. I just wish there was a way that that could be injected back into it.

As good as this game is i can't stand the faults any longer. A football game without foul calls, without penaltys, without long range shot attempts (from the opponent AI), without corner kick goals (from the opponent AI) is just not good enough. And this faults are just a few faults, there are more as we all know.

PES2014 has his moments and i love the build up play, love the physical aspect of the game, i love the short passing, the midfield fights, but it is just not enough.

I really hope for another patch as soon as possible. Right now this game is good for a game from time to time but to much is missing and if you play it permanent it is more frustrating then fun. Unfortunately. Konami has a lot of work to do.

It's not funny. It's true;) When i bought Fifa14 on my PS4 i see how big potencial is in Pes 2014.

Pes 2014 has better physics/collisions > Fifa 14 on PS4

Pes 2014 feel more fluid > Fifa 14 on PS4

Some animations in Pes 2014 are better > Fifa 14 on PS4
Of course Fifa 14 looks awesome, atmosphere is awesome, animations are great. Game is solid. If Konami invest good base from Pes 2014 ( Fox Engine and Havok) and put into Pes 2015 on PS4 we will have great game in next year. No doubt.

More fluid i mean on detection between players and body balance. In Fifa 14 NG players are fluid but feel more a little bit more rigid compare to Pes. It's big chance to Konami to make Pes 2015 great game.

Wow. Obvious troll is obvious.

Haven't touched FIFA so I wouldn't know, but PES this year is just so frustrating.

Firstly, if you crank it up to Top Player or Superstar like I've done in previous years the game is just a pressure mess, which probably has to be played with three bar assist and sprint button held all day long. So it's basically professional or lower.

I find one bar professional about the sweet spot for TRYING to get something simulation out of it.

The build up play from the human POV is probably the best yet. But the CPU build up play, or rather your team mate AI and the general unresponsiveness means it's a fucking nightmare to try control the action, especially defensively.

Once again I am left scratching my head at piss poor team mate AI, inexplicable CPU controlled defending on the human side, and just downright shite goals scored by the CPU, which inevitably can be traced to poor keeping. If you crank the game down to -1 or -2 speed then shooting and shot power becomes a joke, and the keepers flaws are highlighted even more. I'm talking 1mph daisy cutters outfoxing the keeper.

On gamespeed -1 even, some of the CPU shots that my orange/red keeper is just letting in or pansying is laughable. Combine that with the CPU keepers catching almost everything, and yes, I'm beginning to see like a lot on here that shooting/keeping is indeed pretty borked.

I don't get ANY satisfaction out of scoring any more. It's as simple as that. I am left totally indifferent as to when the ball finds the net. At least in 2013 (eventually) you could feel the shot more even if it was less recognisable than say PES 5/6. God, in those games the 'feel' generated through the button press and controller and a firmly hit shot was just magic. Something which has been lost.

Another thing which is driving me crazy is the first touch of the attacker when he breaks the CPU defensive line and he's through on goal. It doesn't matter whether it's Suarez, RVP, Stephen Hawking; it doesn't matter if you use sprint to knock the ball on further or just the direction on the controller, the first touch will always bounce miles in front of the striker toward the keeper.

It makes it difficult to predict therefore which momentum stride is needed because the first touch is just so random. The first touch when clear can even be as bad as the ball going 5-10 yards in front of the player even with no pressure on him.

Keeper palming the ball into his own net from near post. Just a game breaker.

I could go on and on.

Such a shame.

My patience is finished with KONAMI. Us PES fans have been about as loyal as any followers of any product since gaming began. We started the journey with you way back through the grounding days (PES1-3), we saw improvement after improvement and you gave us games with such atmosphere, feel, soul and emotion. Through the PES 4-6 years, I lost half my life playing those friggin' games. I cared about it. I cared about the players, I cared about nurturing them, and got lost in my own little football world. I STILL think about some of those games EVEN NOW....and I'm 31!! Whilst life moves on and priorities change, those memories will always be there because those games meant something. If you loved football, and were a football man appreciating tactics and player stats, and right/foot left foot variables, then PES was THE GAME.

You could play those games for 8 months solid and still see something new in the 9th month. I VIVIDLY remember losing a Champions League final to Inter as Liverpool, 2-1 with an Inter late goal. I can remember the emotion even now of the sheer deflated disappointment, my hands were as sweaty as fuck, as I was blocking, and blocking, and I couldn't get out of my box, and there was more pressure and more, and finally they scored a 92nd minute winner. I remember the whole week was geared to that final, the expectation. I made sure that nobody was around whilst I played that memorable 20 minute match. I can even see the winning Inter goal now in my head. THAT'S HOW MUCH PES MEANT BACK THEN.

Even defeat was utterly glorious.

Why? Because the game was so fucking good.

We then ENDURED the horror years when every other genre was taking things to the next level.

I then saw some light with 2011, which at least tried to emulate some simulation into the game. 12 was a turn for the worse, and 13 (after a million patches) became at least a solid playable game.

But this....I don't know. It's a cross between the best in some areas, and quite possibly the worst in others.

Many good things like I say, but it's 2013 and as a product it can be only be described as completely unfinished. It simply isn't good enough, and I've had it.

Us PES fans we tinker and potch and alter and manipulate everything from player stats to gamespeed, to the modes, to the camera. We then try this and that and change resolution and aspect ratio and blah blah blah to try and get the fucking thing to function like a £40 game.

We are promised every year, every single year, that this year will be the best. Everything is in hand. If anyone at KONAMI gets slated by loyal supporters they are slapped down. I've shelled out more cash over various platforms for PES than I'd like to admit. So yes, I am entitled to a fucking opinion on it to all those that bitch that KONAMI owe me nothing.

The game clearly isn't finished. Last year the game wasn't finished. So many things wrong in all areas. I haven't even mentioned online which over the years has been a travesty.

Anyway, that's my little rant over. It's back to playing a patched Championship Manager 01/02 and my PC patched PES 6.

To all those getting something out of it then all the very best. But as an occasional gamer these days, I really can't be arsed with trying to fix your game myself and put a 1000 hours in like I have done each and every year to try and fix it.

Anyway, good luck to those that persevere.

Definitely true.

About improving defenses, at least for guys who play on PC, I will quote my message from another topic:

Made a glorious revelation today. Since for me one of the biggest problems with PES 2014 was lousy defensive AI, I increased (using goldokiller's editor) Defensive Awareness stat for all players by 40% and now AI defends crazyly well. Just had 1 (!) shot on goal in 15 min match playing on professional. In fact AI defends and covers the space so well, that I would prefer increasing the above-mentioned stat by lower percentage, unfortunatelly for some reason goldokiller's editor does not allow me that.

If anything, make a backup of your EDIT file, an try it. So far I'm really happy.

Probably never saw AI defending so effectively in a video game. A positive side effect is that, since your defence is covering much better, AI is forced to build up more carefully.

PES 2014 right now has imho these problems:

1. The teams default tactical setups are mostly wrong. Most teams have a too high defensive line and their wings aren't guarded much because defensive compactness is setup wrongly. The result of this is that goal-creating-opportunities result either out of lobpasses, throughpasses or a pass to the wings followed by a lowcross-pass to the goal-area.
This makes playing against the CPU repetitive when the tactical setups are not changed accordingly.

2. Individuality seems to be too subtle. Most players seem to have similar passing-abilities, even on zero-bar most of the passing seems a bit assisted and doesn't seem to differ from one player to the next. So what's the point of having for example Iniesta or Pirlo in the team?

3. There is no real time stamina fatigue system in place that would punish constant pressuring. Constant pressuring is a tactic and it's used sometimes in real life football but it has a high price which isn't being paid in the game.

4. Shooting has become better, I can nearly feel it, but it needs more of that feeling, more zip and more trajectories, as well as more realistic reactions of goalkeepers.

I'm not sure that another patch can fix it all, but I hope so.

@ ccshopland.....

Couldn't agree more with that. You echo my feelings exactly. I think I've got to the point where I've become really apathetic about PES. I've lost the love and enthusiasm for the series after being let down each year for too long now.

My gaming time has decreased - mainly due to our first child arriving a few weeks ago - so I need to spend my gaming time wisely on products that work and are enjoyable. Simple as that really.

Unless Konami do something spectacular next year I cannot see myself returning to the PES series.

To be enjoyable and to work is nothing spectacular,it should be easily achievable if they really change the way to develop Pes

Congratulations on becoming a Dad buddy, it's the best feeling in the world...... ;)

Did you have a boy or girl ?

A little boy called Oliver. Nearly six weeks old now.

Congrats mate, that's great news.

I'm still sharing recent opinions on PES too I'm afraid, I finally managed to offload it, I got a whopping £15 for it. Given I paid £35 for it, that was money well spent :CONFUSE:

I'm just glad I'm loving FIFA 14 on PS4. PES is light years behind it. I'm hoping they'll pull their finger out for next year on the new consoles and PC but I just can't see it. There'll be the usual 'it's a new generation, blah blah' but in terms of replicating the 'feel' of a match day I can't see how they'll be able to pull this off. Next gen FIFA IMO is catching up with the likes of NBA2K now for presentation and immersion. What's frustrating is that Konami could do the same, it's not like it's entirely a licensing issue.

Thanks lads. :TU:

I'm really keen to give next-gen FIFA a try. I'm sure it will be on a demo machine in a games shop somewhere if such places still exist.

Anyway, I'd better get out of here before Lami tells me off for being negative. Keep the positivity flowing chaps!

Yeah me too, someone might tell me off for mentioning the 'other game', and for talking about a game I no longer own. Which would be fair enough really!
