PES 2014 Discussion Thread

Player individuality has been on the slide for many years and it's at an all-time low in PES2014. The series can't really claim this is a selling point over FIFA any longer.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the feeling of player individuality has reduced as we see greater implementation of manual controls in PES. I know many will disagree but the evidence points to this in my opinion.

Gameplay was far more automated back in the golden days of PES and I can't help feeling it was this that helped the player individuality shine. The game was more stat driven and scripted than it is now.
yup i feel the same way, and i'm really missing the old PES.
guess the old saying "you don't know what you've got until its gone" can really be used here.

What the fuck are you people playing? individuality has NEVER been asgood as it is now.
"The only difference is speed" I spat my coffee across the room on that 1.
Offcourse manaual settings changes things a lot but to say PES is not stat based is mindboggling.

Keep in mind the PS2 games were very old and archaic code.you get away with so much more than where football games are today moreso with the Introduction of the physics and animation engines which is why I think that Konami are spot on to introduce player cards.

Okay, if you have, day, Xavi on the ball, what does he offer over anyone else? He's not a dribbler, so that's obviously not going to be a factor, but his control, passing are pretty much identical to anyone else's despite these stats being through the roof. I can still hammer a long, 50 yard pass with pinpoint accuracy with a defender with low passing stats, so what's the point in Xavi in the game? His movement off the ball doesn't seem to offer anything much different to other players, so that's my point - unless someone is renowned as a dribbler or powerhouse like Zlatan for example, players feel very generic.

So there you have it. There are players with good dribbling, acceleration, and can turn quickly, those who are powerful and hard to knock off the ball, and the rest who kinda just feel the same.

Try advanced through ball. Player with lower passing stats simply can't pump the ball long enough. Or play with lower league team for several matches. If you still can't spot any difference, maybe your vision (player individuality) is too much than what the game offered.

I said before that the difference between really low rated players (say, 50 rated ML defaults) and top ones is noticeable, but I can't tell a difference between a 70-rated plater and a 80-rated one unless they're a skilful dribbler.

I ain't using advanced through ball though, absolutely hate it. I can use it just fine, I just hate the mechanics of it and having huge circles all over the pitch ruins the immersion for me.

If you play on basic settings your not gonna see all the nuances of the game - take a walk on the full manual side

I can only say how Rewarding my play session was this morning. The improvements are very noticeable, I know some people are saying otherwise but at the end of the say people will only see what they want to see.

The game is still far from perfect and there are plenty of Bugs and issues that need looking at but they've made it playable for a couple of weeks at least! Will see how these impressions last in the long run

I think you can disable all the visual cue. Not sure, cause i don't really mind it. I believe you can use it just fine, but i'm sure you haven't seen everything of it. But one thing for certain, it's not for everybody.

silly question..but how does one remove it??

In PS3, it's under Game data utility or something like it. Click on triangle then details/information to make sure it's the install data from it's size.

I'm going crazy with all this spooky stuff. I'm just waiting for someone telling me i have to buy a xbox360 disc for my PS3 because the gameplay is heaven then. I mean, i would do it! :DD

Heh. I uninstalled but can't see any differences tbh.

I'm on the 360 downloading the Datapack. Looks like it's going to take yonks.

LOL the ball physics are exactly the same. I already said keepers we're better but they still let in shitty goals. Control feels exactly the same. Talk about getting sucked in by placebo effects.

So what's so different about shooting then? Shots are maybe a bit more powerful but that's about it.

Oh and after 800 faces added, I find it hilarious that Andros Townsend, one of the most current/relevant players around in the Premier League and England team at the moment, still has a generic face. Really poor.

Bullshit, bullshit and bullshit. If You don't see any difference in shooting we cant speak anymore. Control feels exactly the same? Bullshit. Players feels much more responsive and it's feels to have better control. Shooting is much, much better and now i can strike where i want. It's not only about powerful. Of course ball physics is better because before the patch ball physics feels like balon but now is heavier. I didn't notce any slowdowns. Game feels much solid in all aspects :BOP:

I don't know who thought that 11 players vs 11 players online would be fun.

It isn't.

I think if they're all mates then it would be. Don't have many online though so can't see myself playing it.

@LonsFenomenoo

Calm down son.

Your such a charmer aren't you. Someone has a different opinion? Berate them saying it's bullshit and say you can't even discuss it any more....

Plus, you're seeing stuff that isn't there. New ball physics? Players handle differently? Oh dear.

What an awful post.

I'm playing PES 2014 on xbox360 and went straight from 1.00 to 1.04 and there are definitely improvements regarding player control, awareness and shooting, as well as responsiveness.

It just feels all around more polished and refined.

It may be not as day and night as it is probably on PS3-version which also suffered from framerate-issues and awful responsiveness before, but still quite noticeable.

Unfortunately though the patch didn't solve other problems like referee seeing more fouls and the teams in single player playing more varied and creatively.
It's really a big bummer that these days Konami doesn't want to invest the time and work to create more than just generic tactical setups for the teams.

That and that individuality could be much more pronounced are my main-gripes with PES 2014 right now.

But still I have to acknowledge all the good things the engine delivers, the ball physics, the animation, the physical interactions, the freedom and that this year there seems to be no cheating going on and that the goalkeepers are most of the time reliable.

Individuality is at it's highest on the correct settings. The new stats are so diverse they cover areas never realised in previous games. It's not just that though, it's their relevance in individual technique.

Anyway, tried multiplayer tonight, and I'm afraid the frame-rate stutter is still there, also, slowdown is there and worse than before. Most noticeably after a few games of play. Which is weird, but something I read before. The more you play multi-player, the worse it gets. That's not good. First few games were perfect, after that, it went downhill fast.

As drekkards has noted there is an obvious mem leak. Reboot your ps3 after every match, sucks but it will work.

am I right in assuming that on console the data pack & patch gets downloaded as one thing, or do oyu download the patch from PSN/XBL and then get the Data Pack ingame? just wondering if people are downloading the Data Pack thinking they get the patch, when they dont.

When I started PES 2014 with the network-cable in the xbox360, it immediately told me there is an update. And then I got the 4 MB-patch version 1.04. The DLC that had 1 GB I had to download separately after looking within the game for information regarding further updates.

:APPLAUD:

Konami is so good at explaining stuff to you that it took me 2 months and 2 Data Packs to figure out that if you're using the default camera in BAL, you can lock the camera to the ball or playyer by pressing the back button/select button.

Hmm? So it's the other way around now?

Hey lami problem I was having after I downloaded the patch, the game was playing too quick and after I uninstalled the data from my HDD it played better , looks like everyone is having different experiences. This game can be great but atm it's in bit of mess like when I play first couple of matches it plays well then all those annoying bugs make an intermittent appearance.
It's a frustrating experience.

Seriosly guys im desperate...how can i perform strong shots(advanced) because knuckle shot doesnt ment to be power shot, and how can i use through pass(advanced) because every through pass is random, it picks sometime the farest and sometime the closest player and its power doesnt seem to be affected by the powerbar even if i press it for a mli sec it will go halfway of the field even tho i desired for 2-3 meters....??????

PLEASE HELP

You see, there is a game manual for a reason...
