Played this game yesterday and we are being faaar too harsh on it.

I dont know how I got sucked into this shit flinging. Yes there are issues, yes Konami could do better but what is there is not half as bad as how it is portrayed here.

Completely agree.
On the other hand: Konami have only to blame themselves.

Sure, that's why i am in 3rd season of ML campaign... on PC :))

@Lami
Recently, we are discussing the way Konami PES team handle gameplay feedback, etc. They show less effort/communication to be engaged with fan especially the loyal one. No wonder something is blown out of proportion.

Understood.

Let's see what they bring with the next patch.

Oh, come on! There's plenty to whinge about! Do I have to remind you?

- incredibly shit goalkeepers
- incredibly poor defensive AI (especially in tournaments and ML)
- shit awareness and reactions, especially in and around the box
- no variety in goals
- only 16 or something stadia, and most of them look exactly the same
- slow menus

To name a few. It's pretty poor for a PES, allright. But! Can hopefully be fixed with a proper patch.

This is what I meant when saying blowing things out of proportion; the bolded parts to be exact.

"Incredibly shit" GKs means I'm playing toddlers in goal to me. I've had my GK save me on numerous occasions with some amazing top saves. The two issues I have are near post goals and GK not running out quickly for 1-1s or to collect the ball before the opposition does. Would like foot-planting to play a good part in GK motion too. Apart from these I think they're fine the way they are for me. I do not want them to be perfect. Just want them to be normal.

As for awareness and reactions, while they're not the best, they're "ok". Shit to me would mean players don't move or react much if at all.

That's my take on it. I prefer to be reasonable when criticizing anything :)

No, I see no variety in my goals. Every now and again I score goals similar to those on your videos but they account for a tiny percentage of all the goals I score. The vast majority end up being very, very similar to each other.

Besides, your videos only show a tiny handful of goals out of vastly more I'm assuming you've managed in the game. That's not an argument that the game doesn't lack variety. Older PES games were so varied that virtually no goal was ever the same, so two videos showing a tiny selection of varied goals isn't going to convince me. I'm guessing it also depends on the difficulty you play on too.

Sure, there is a certain variety in goals, but there is a stale feeling to a lot of the goals being scored in the game, a lot of them just does not feel very organic or like goals that could happen in real life football (as opposed to earlier versions of PES).

I'm doing a season with Tottenham now, recording all the goals I score, to give some sort of analysis of the goals scored against the CPU in the game. There is a certain variety so far, but again, there is a "staleness" or something non-organic about a lot of them. Will post video here once I've captured the whole season.

its a good game but a few things needs to be fixed, I have tweeted this to adam/konami

the pressure buttons needs to be toned down, this will make dribbling easier, and makes it more realistic

shooting needs a complete overhaul, first of all is too weak and so often the same, a near miss or it hits the post, no real variety like old pes

when doing a one two pass (x+r1) the player is running far too long
(when doing this with a defender he will sprint all the way to other side, this is also a big exploit online)

keepers needs to be more aggresive

get ridd of the guidelines or reduce the dots with freekicks and corners this is far too easy, exploit online

player select (l1+rs) doesnt work with trow in, he wont trow it to the selected player, and doesnt work with long balls with the keeper (it did work in pes2013)

how fast the balls travels with low passes on differnt PA settings needs to be the same

the ref is far to lenient with giving fouls, no advantage play when yellow card is givin

I'm chipping away with my ML with Middlesbrough, in the EPL and coaching Senegal.

There are some great things in this game, there are also some well documented issues. The slowdown in the final third, especially when All-Out-Attack is being used, is like playing in treacle. :(

The shooting I'm still not happy with, and I've tried everything I can, but it just doesn't feel organic.

In saying that, using Basic Shooting with L2 Manual has produced some really powerful strikes. The L2 option is what generates the power, and although I don't feel this should be the way this should work. It certainly gives another option.

Despite the negativity I agree. Oh the defence is playing a high line you say? Well let me slip a through ball through and beat the offside trap (not that there was one) and score this 1 v 1 by running 25 yards with the ball and shooting just as the defender catches me up inside the box (knowing when to do it to avoid the catch-up bug). It is destined to roll under the keeper and into the back of the net, especially if you control-shot it.

I generally think the defensive high-line amounts for so many similar goals. If you play a through ball the attacker is destined to react quicker to it then the defender so this happens time and time again.

I haven't played the game for a couple of weeks now. I'm pretty hopeful for the patch to be honest.

@Northz

That's why i would like to see the balance in this situation via patch. In PES 2013, CPU defender is too good at reading my attacker path. lol.

Most of the time, we can guess in what situation the cpu defender will be late. As supertalk says, it encourages to play through ball etc. yup, this need to be fine-tuned. Should be possible.

I see people confusing the game-issues with the incompetence that is KONAMI.

The game has some frustrating issues, but what is more frustrating is the way KONAMI communicates with the fans.

Loved this goal. Nice shoulder drop from the RB to beat his man. Zips a ball in on the deck, a nice piece of thinking outside the box with the perfect dummy, Emnes through on goal, pulls away, steady posture, then a nice placed finish to end a sublime move.....

Spot on.

I'm frustrated with Konami more than anything. They clearly have some talented people on their team, but a hell of a lot of incompetents as well.

Maybe I'd see some long shots go in if I drop down from Superstar, but then there's the trade-off that the game won't be as difficult. But I just tried practising shooting in training mode, not a single shot from outside the box went in. I hit numerous shots that were fast, accurate, and right into the top corner. Every time the keeper just plucked it out of the air.

That's the problem right there. I had a nice couple of games tonight playing as Schalke, they played great in general and rather than trying to score regular goals, I was hitting shots from different distances and positions but none of them even came close to going in, even though a lot of them were pretty accurate and had pace on them.

Have you tried holding L2 and giving it some power ?

I also think they need to smooth out the animations or perhaps the transition between animations. Whoever was blowing smoke up Konami in their early code reviews by saying these are the most life like animations ever seen was surely smoking something. They have a great platform here but they need to go back and get rid of the jerkiness and slow turns...

Just a question.

I uninstalled the latest patch to try and play the game from scratch on ps3 (couldn't load my save and option file without the latest patch). I tried and the game felt better. Then I installed the latest patch again and all my save data + option file was restored. My question is if this might have impacted gameplay negatively? Remember some year ago you had to install the patch first then the OF I think. Now I did the opposite (re-isntalled the patch on the OF). Might this have affected my game? Should I re install everything or am I just being paranoid?

Thanks.

I thought that L2 is full manual and stats don't matter. This is not the way i love to play this game. The outcome of everything must depend on the player stats. For me this is the heart and soul of PES.

There is a stat difference still, more on accuracy but noticeable power also. Not great, but an option to give you a chance of the long range screamers.

Just quit the game for the 4th week running playing with my mates. Tried 2v2, fuck me, utterly horrendous with the slowdown. Total game-breaker, unplayable. A total disgrace.

If this isn't fixed in the patch, this game will never get player again with my mates.

Single player ML is just about, well, ok. Playable. The rest, fucking shite.

I'll be surprised if they fixed this Slowdown. Thank goodness I didn't wait for the patch. Hahahah this in 2013.

I wish PES were decent online this year... I don't own 2014 but it seems fairly unanimous that online is broken. I've been trying to get into FIFA recently so I have a football game to play this year, but it really isn't satisfying at all for a plethora of reasons gameplay wise (also pay-to-win Ultimate Team doesn't help).

PES 2013 was mostly nooby ping pong shite online too, I miss the days of having a decent tactical online football game. Single player never holds my interest.

Really, I'm very dissapointed. How Konami can deliver such a laggy and unresponsive game is beyond me. I'm really trying to enjoy it and there are some moments that I can, but every now and then I pass the ball to a player and it doesnt really matter what button I press or what I do, he WILL stand still for about 2-3 seconds.

This happens a lot. Plus there are times when your player cant really do anything because of crappy animations and stuff like that. Playing PES 2014 is like driving one of those really old cars from the sixties. It brings some joy but at the same time you're thinking: "this could've been so much better".

Then you fire up FIFA, play Be a Pro and see your player respond to every damn input with crisp animations, sweet dribbling and lots of different moves. The game plays well and more fluid. I feel like I'm trying to steer a truck when I'm dribbling in PES. Really, as a follower since Winning Eleven 3, this is just too damn frustrating.

Come on KONAMI, really, how can a company create and distribute games like Metal Gear Solid and release unpolished, button laggy crap like PES 2014 at the same time?

Can't disagree more. Regardless of Konami's problems regarding finishing a game, the on the pitch feeling is still (and this year even more so) miles ahead of Fifa.
Fifa offers clearly the better game experience due to a more polished and more complete package of modes, but for me Pes clearly offers the better football experience, even despite the niggling problems.

But knowing Konami we won't get the complete package till Pes 2016.

I respect your opinion and I'm a PES fanboy, but I have to strongly disagree. A player controlled by you in FIFA doesnt stand still without doing anything for 2-3 seconds even if you're telling him to pass, dribble or do something. Plus you just lose a lot of balls because of silly animations.

PES 2014 has its moments and there are games when you see it has true potential, but it's just too unpolished and raw. Winning Eleven 4 at PSOne had better playability. A game with button lag in 2013 is unacceptable.
