Right so got this game again yesterday – brand new on EBay.
Got it home and put Daymos option file on (looks great) and loaded it up.
Getting past the dated and clunky menus I spent a good 30 minutes setting up the game the way I liked it.
Picked Liverpool v Everton to be played at Wembley on a Summers night.
Everything looked great……
................until the game started to play.

Player switching – whether I set it to semi assisted or manual the player switching was erratic. At one point I didn’t know who I was controlling.

The game seemed to be bunched in the middle of the park. I tried to spread it wide but no joy. It’s as if the AI wanted it all played in the middle.

Keepers – yes I know but how many years these been broke? Everton had a shot as week as water and Mignolet just let it sail past him. Then for no reason decided to go for a walk about behind the goal! Really poor goal to concede.

One thing I will say and this is where PES is better than Fifa – passing. When you finally get on the ball passing is great.

There are many things wrong with this game and I cant be arsed to list them all. Jimmy has summed it up nicely.

After trying various game speeds and trying different things I find the game a clunky bogged down affair.
That’s me finally done with PES14. I gave it another chance but I don’t think even a patch can save it.

I really wanted to be wrong after my first purchase but sadly I wasnt. Im gutted.

See you for PES15.

there seems to be alot of issues when a modified option file is installed into this years game, try it see how you and i bet u will notice a big difference. good luck

Tbh I recommend you guys try playing different custom cameras. For me the game is soo much better on the custom than wide. When I have to play online with wide I actually hate it. the game feels unresponsive whereas when I play with custom the game feels like a joy.

dont know if its just me you guys can try it.

There are many great features about this game, but it's far, far from finished.

It's our weekly Lads Night tonight, although I have a football match first. But, for the first time since PES 2007, I'm seriously thinking of going back a PES, and playing PES 13 instead.

What a sad state of affairs........... :(

You know not all is well when Jimmy feels this upset by the game.

Reminds me of the legend of the Ravens at the Tower of London. ;)

I've said this before. I'm very convinced that PES 2014 was developed and tested in low-resolution. When I play this game on 576p (ratio 4:3), this is an incredible game. Great gameplay, brilliant AI and actually really difficult AI and some exciting bits of animations that you don't get to see in higher resolutions.

I have been playing on an old ass SD tv with the screen set to 4:3, but this introduces a problem, namely that the action sometimes gets pulled off screen - the camera is sometimes not quick enough to react to a fast pass. So I have recently switched to 16:9. Still on the old TV though.

Yep, fully agree.

I'm going to be brutally honest here, I've gone full turn with this game.I had found myself really enjoying the game in Single Player Tournaments at one point. That has now pretty much gone, including my Brasilian ML.

I played my son the other night, we played Arsenal v Spurs, and to be honest it was just horrendous. I wouldn't even know where to begin on what is wrong with the game, but needless to say, we both hated every second of it. We tried again with Ajax and Zenit, and switched the game off during the second half. We'd had enough. Never, and I repeat never, have we ever felt this way about PES. My son hates it, and he doesn't pull his punches. He said it's Fifa but PES. And to be honest, I felt like I knew exactly what he meant. :(

Player-switching can be pathetic, Player Awareness is pityful at times. The postioning and high-line of the defence, even with sliders set as low as 5, is a joke. The game turned into an end-to-end farce.

The shooting is hands-down, the worst I've ever had the mis-fortune to experience in any PES game. Ever.

The fundamentals that have always been a staple to the execution are almost non-existent. And even when they are, the game decides for you, rather than you feeling like you have achieved it. The dinks look nice, but they are over-powered. There is a stickiness to the shooting that removes all the instantaneous feel of replicated technique. The variation in the shooting is also piss-poor, especially on Basic and Advanced. I've not tried Manual, but I'm not interested in that, for reasons I can't be bothered mentioning again.

I've always felt the shooting in PES has pretty much nailed how I feel playing on the park in real-life. I don't with PES 14, and it's glaring. Even the snap-shot animation has no follow-through with the motion. It's just all a technical mess when it comes to reproducing fundamentals.

And when have I ever said that ? :(

This fucking stupid, bullshit line for the FK's and dead-balls is a joke. No skill whatsoever, and another huge shotgun blast into both feet by Konami. They had the perfect system, and basically removed it. Absolutely no logic.

Just for my own sanity, I played a couple of games in my Brasilian ML yesterday afternoon. I enjoyed them for the most part, more time on the ball, harder to break down the defence, and all that is brilliant with the game at the forefront.

Edit - Oh, and one more thing, the CPU attempted a shot from 30-35 yards last night against me. I have it on video. I guess for a second, the CPU Ai, simply forgot it/we, can't score from there........

This is the first time ever. We have to record this down. This version I think has to be the worst beside 2008. And I can't believe we fell for the hype train this year. Maybe we could not have a thread for 15 until a month before it releases?

Not the worst, pes 9 , 12, 13 were worse imo.
This engine at least has potential to become a great football game, all limitations and bugs are down to konami not finishing the game develpment. The ball does actually feels like free entity (not all the time but still) and not gluing to players like before.

Through passes, your player is still automatically attracted to it. That's Been in there from day 1. Can't see how that's free. Now after reading Jimmys post, tempted to sell instead of waiting for patch. And I thought the slowdowns were the worst issue...

I know where Jimmy is coming from, I'm also getting this strange backwards feeling from this game, at first I was like: "This game is rough around the edges, but when I get used to it there is a potential it will be the best ever PES" Since then I have played more but not got used to the shooting, I mostly score from downwards headers after crosses (which felt great at first but it's becoming too effective) or from stealing the ball off a defender for an easy finish.

It's truly annoying because it needs the slightest ajustments to be brilliant, hopefully Konami will make the right changes in November but... Well it's Konami, innit.

Scoring goals isn't a problem in PES 2014, for me anyway, it's the lack of magic associated with many of them.

THIS!

That was i missed! That rewarding feeling when you score goals you don't feel it anymore. It's just "meh" goals. Like FIFA. In this sense PES2013 still have it.

Today i have PES night with my 3 mates. And we all texting on wassap 2013 or 2014? All we said 2013 until the "ultimate patch" comes out in november. The game it's broken on many key things.

Shots were probably a tad overpowered in 2013 but man I miss just going for a shot almost anywhere on the opponents half. When it dropped somewhere perfectly to just hammer it, it was great! It's not like those shots went in all the time but there was the odd monster goal where I would get up and fists were pumped. Especially against mates, what a feeling to score one of those. This is utterly and completely impossible in PES 2014.

Another thing haven't seen anyone pointing out :
gk sticking on their area too much on 1v1 situation. Im yet to have opportunity for a lob shot in 100+ games. Kinda reminds me of older fifa games where keeper only goes out to collect loose ball.
This also is one of cause of the lost pes scoring "magic" because once you get ball close enough you just easily score without gk having a chance. While on older versions he would rush to attacker to close out angle and make it more complicated.

Yeah it's true, not long ago I mentioned how I scored a goal by making a through pass way into the opponents half, and I only caught up with it when it was half way into the box! Keeper just stood on his line and watched because a defender was breathing down my neck the whole time. Previous games would have had the keeper collect this easily, surely Konami will fix that one.

On the other side of the pitch, your keeper will react very slowly when you bring him out (sometimes not at all!) and the cpu opponent will chip you every time and score if there is the slightest chance.

Has there been any more news on the proposed 'Shooting' Fix ?

I had read it within a snippet posted on here via a Konami site, but not heard anything else since ?

Need a solution; any help or verification needed.

MLO points bug:

Total cost of my team- 24965
total assets 26188
But...
The total cost bar is 25000. It has been stuck on 25000 for about 7/8 games. When going to buy a player it says 35 point's only.

Has anyone else had this bug? Is there a fix for it? Can I retrospectively get back my hard earned points

Please help. Thanks in Advance

I´ll be with mates too tonight, but we´ll have to play Fifa 14, semi assisted. No one wants to go back to Pes 13, and no one wants to play the schyzophrenic pes 14 unfinished, all the goals feel the same affair.

I hate to say this, but fIFA does feel like older ps2 pes games, on the last third of the pitch. Tactics and build up, don´t really mean much there( and it kills my mojo), but the action, the possibilities and the randomness (vs another Human)when near/inside the box are just like old pes. Some animations are simply magnificent, and having total control over simple things like cooly placing a shot on a 1 v 1 vs the keeper or letting it rip from long range are very, very satisfying. REMEMBER KONAMI???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know, man. I actually bought Fifa last week, played it for a good few hours, but just couldn't properly get into it. It just didn't feel like a game of football at all. Too pacey, too much sprinting, everything feels scripted somehow, all camera angles are shite. I agree that it certainly gets the last third of the pitch better than this year's PES though, there is a bigger variance in terms of how goals are scored, but that's about it. Even on "slow" the game feels faaaar too fast.

yeah shooting is my only BIG problem with the game, if that was fixed do you think you cold love this game jimmy?

I so want to love it mate, there is sooo much to love. But when you take out the unpredictability, you rip the soul clean out of PES.....

There is a 'sticky' feel to everything that happens, whether it be in the control, the shooting, or the dispicable slowdown in the final third. And why on earth they had to change the R2 button is beyond me, that is a huge loss. And apart from the delayed shooting, that's the thing my son hates the most. And I'm tending to agree with him. That close level of control and sheilding of the ball has been lost.

On the plus side, I much prefer the tackling with both Double X and Square. I think this has been done really well, and gives a great feeling of weight. The timing element in this regard is very relevant. The Double X Stab Tackle drew more fouls than it did clean tackles in PES 13, this is so much better. Even giving us the ability to intercept a pass by sticking out your leg.

I like the R3 Hold-Off system when jostling, but to be honest, they could have kept this physical play as they have by using R2 in the old way.

I love the atmosphere that can be created by the numerous chant and sound effect slots they have made available. And having Player Specific Chants for every player is a very good idea and well implemented.

The Preset's and Combination Plays add another tactical dynamic that I very much welcome, and I appreciate the extra layer of individuality with the option of the Speed Burst into open space. This a great addition and very realistic.

I like how the Ai react as well for the most part, they are quite clever in the way they play and defend at times. I've seen the CPU Ai feinting runs, and setting traps in a defensive manner. What I mean by that, is they feint to cover the passing channel then drop back in. I like that, the reading of the game from them can be almost human-like at times, without feeling 'glitchy' or 'scripted'.

The individuality has been done brilliantly, by far the best yet for me. And I mean how it's been implemented, almost seamless, and the exact opposite of PES 2013. The small top-rated players don't win physical battles just because they are 93 OVR, neither does the ball just fall kindly to them, or defenders move out of the way to give them their '93 OVR' advantage. It all feels relevant and precise, and I love that. They truly have nailed that side of it.

The animations are obviously very nice, but they have come at a very high price. Much in the same way they did for FIFA. Personally, I'd rather have the fluent and responsive animations of prior PES games if this is to be the compromise. Football is an instinctive game, you cannot deter from that if you're trying to truly replicate it.

I do like the inertia and heavy feel of the players, but that is seperate to the animation issues. They are not one of the same.

I really hope this next patch is enough to 'fix' the issues that they MUST know exist. It's weird, I've always felt like I've fully understood everything Konami have ever strived to achieve within their various philosophies of every edition. This year I'm lost, I just don't get their message, and that is very worrying...... :(

This.

There was a very clear advantage of rushing your keeper out last year, and it had a real sense of weight. It's the exact opposite this year, you're better off not even touching the button to bring him out, and letting the CPU do it all. I don't like that either.

Manual shooting certainly have more venom, you can power your shot from anywhere. It should satisfy fans of long range shooting. Sometime do feel the goalkeeper animation is simply can't catch up with certain type of shot. However unless they fix the broken controlled and first timer shot, i have no intention of going full time with this mode.

I do like the advanced shooting. It have the best contextual animation for both shooter and goalkeeper, and you can direct the ball at any angle which is not possible in basic and hard to pull in manual. My minor gripe are the lack of response for first timer, and slightly underpowered or floating feeling of it. I also can understand people tend to avoid it since it makes shooting almost exclusively directed on target.

It is almost impossible to score from long ranger and goalkeeping is inconsistent, but in general i feel this year shooting have better context into it. Angle, height, timing, positioning all makes more sense.

Talking about patch, i don't think they could do a lot with shooting except for fine tune or adding more weight to it. Everything else is related to the core gameplay and AI. Don't think they will revise that vital part any time soon.

I'm fine with basic to be honest. But like the name suggest, it is too basic to my liking.

In the past we have player attempting scissor kick during rebound, or dipping volley which look comical (ridiculous trajectory). It is drastically reduced this year as the AI is more calculated. Header for the first time in years, feel special.

Using the triangle button to bring the keeper out seems to confuse him and makes him do weird stuff like running clean past the attacker and the ball. I used to also use triangle to bring him out by a few feet when I knew a shot was coming in, to cut down the angle. Not any more, all you can do is leave him to do his own thing, which feels weird when an attacker bears down on him and he stays firmly on his goal line. It makes the passage of play look amateurish which is something I also feel when scoring against the COM keeper who does exactly the same thing.

I have a feeling however that the patch isn't going to be some all singing, all dancing answer to the game's problems though. I have no faith in Konami at a decision making level to be able to recognise concisely what needs fixing.

Yeah I see the exact same thing and is infuriating not least because on older games, on an older engine, this sort of thing was never an issue, so how it's now miles worse is bizarre.

Football has me by the balls EA and PES just reap the benefits of my passion.

Yesterday when I got home from work I noticed a small package in my mailbox and immediately knew that it was my copy of PES14. I was able to find a UK seller and October the 5th put in my order the recepit basically said to be on the lookout from November 1-15 so was happy to receive it so early.

The fact that a company as big as Konami makes it that hard for a US based player to purchase their game is stunning. No first day release on Steam I could go on and on but my negativity will end there.

Played 7 15 minute games Pro Level semi assist 1 bar Adv Adv Off everything else. After playing tons of FIFA13 and choosing not to purchase FIFA14 untill I properly played PES14 I am totally satisfied.

Only won 1 game out of the 5 on pro level that I played and when I knocked it down to Regular I won one and lost one. Once I get to grips with the controls I know I will boss but man was I engaged the gameplay was totally engrossing.

The negativity towards this game is outstanding. Scored from just outside the penalty are with Benteke and it felt quality. I am guessing the lack of long range goals are from the people that like to let them rip from 40 to 60 meters out. Of the seven games I played the cross in the box with the shot coming from near post was really prevelant.

Now both games almost play out identical to one another. Long story short if I can play FIFA13 almost everyday for the last 4 months straight. PES14 deserves my attention for the next four months aswell.

When the patch hits this place is going to go apeshit. I for one can not wait.
