I´ve always played my PES on 480p on Xbox. 0 input lag, better animations and flow cause of te clear native resolution its in. 60 herz also help to make it feel muh zippier and shots and bursts of speed just feel "oomphed". For years i´ve been touting this horn: PES is made on lower resolutions, clearly. COD i also sometimes play on 480p aspect ratio, but there you feel no real difference, except if you are talking about the old cods, where i had zero input lag, and sniping was an art. Hardscoping and leading targets... miss those days.

Oh, and pes looks wonderful on 480p xbox, and terrible on 576 hdmi ps3. Terrible. But it plays wonderfully on both. When you go there, you´ll never come back. i assure you. It even makes the stupid far away online/default camera playable ( it stretches the screen, aspect ratio, and lowers the field of view. PES still is made with ps2 technology no doubt.

Love the shooting on 576p. There's this much needed oomph in the shots. I want to shoot as often as possible just for the zip in shots.

Plus, some great pieces of animations that strangely you don't get to see in higher resolutions. Probably before those animation codes render the game and the ball moves on.

576p has made to me think free again about how I want to play and what I want to try and experiment.

I know it's a shame that we are talking about 2013 game running well on 576p/480p. But it's clear that the gaming mechanics are spot on but they've done a poor technical job in porting this experience to higher resolutions.

For long range shots try with knuckleballs.

For the resolution debate I feel your are mixing tv input lag and ps3 resolution settings

I FINALLY scored a long range goal. First one ever.

http://youtu.be/AzTAPolc8yQ

I thought long range goals were considered a bit further than that! I'm happy then because I have scored some of those with Saint Etienne in my league mode. Maybe one every 5-6 matches, though I shoot a lot from that distance. Once the shot was even mid-height when it went in, but lacks variation.

The trick seems to be to knock the ball away before shooting, filling the power bar and doing it with the right player and right composure.

But it isn't properly balanced at all, they tend to go too much on target and because of that goalkeepers react too well to those shots to keep the score low. How difficult would it be to add a lot more error to shots so you don't need superhuman goalkeepers and good shots have more chances of going in?

I wouldn't know about 14 yet, I'm waiting for Konami to release it.

Yep, fully agree.

I'm going to be brutally honest here, I've gone full turn with this game.I had found myself really enjoying the game in Single Player Tournaments at one point. That has now pretty much gone, including my Brasilian ML.

I played my son the other night, we played Arsenal v Spurs, and to be honest it was just horrendous. I wouldn't even know where to begin on what is wrong with the game, but needless to say, we both hated every second of it. We tried again with Ajax and Zenit, and switched the game off during the second half. We'd had enough. Never, and I repeat never, have we ever felt this way about PES. My son hates it, and he doesn't pull his punches. He said it's Fifa but PES. And to be honest, I felt like I knew exactly what he meant. :(

Player-switching can be pathetic, Player Awareness is pityful at times. The postioning and high-line of the defence, even with sliders set as low as 5, is a joke. The game turned into an end-to-end farce.

The shooting is hands-down, the worst I've ever had the mis-fortune to experience in any PES game. Ever.

The fundamentals that have always been a staple to the execution are almost non-existent. And even when they are, the game decides for you, rather than you feeling like you have achieved it. The dinks look nice, but they are over-powered. There is a stickiness to the shooting that removes all the instantaneous feel of replicated technique. The variation in the shooting is also piss-poor, especially on Basic and Advanced. I've not tried Manual, but I'm not interested in that, for reasons I can't be bothered mentioning again.

I've always felt the shooting in PES has pretty much nailed how I feel playing on the park in real-life. I don't with PES 14, and it's glaring. Even the snap-shot animation has no follow-through with the motion. It's just all a technical mess when it comes to reproducing fundamentals.

And when have I ever said that ? :(

This fucking stupid, bullshit line for the FK's and dead-balls is a joke. No skill whatsoever, and another huge shotgun blast into both feet by Konami. They had the perfect system, and basically removed it. Absolutely no logic.

Just for my own sanity, I played a couple of games in my Brasilian ML yesterday afternoon. I enjoyed them for the most part, more time on the ball, harder to break down the defence, and all that is brilliant with the game at the forefront.

There are many great features about this game, but it's far, far from finished.

It's our weekly Lads Night tonight, although I have a football match first. But, for the first time since PES 2007, I'm seriously thinking of going back a PES, and playing PES 13 instead.

What a sad state of affairs........... :(

Edit - Oh, and one more thing, the CPU attempted a shot from 30-35 yards last night against me. I have it on video. I guess for a second, the CPU Ai, simply forgot it/we, can't score from there........

Has some nasty FIFA-fan taken over the account of Jimmy G-Force?
It does not sound like him :CONFUSE:

Right so got this game again yesterday – brand new on EBay.
Got it home and put Daymos option file on (looks great) and loaded it up.
Getting past the dated and clunky menus I spent a good 30 minutes setting up the game the way I liked it.
Picked Liverpool v Everton to be played at Wembley on a Summers night.
Everything looked great……
................until the game started to play.

Player switching – whether I set it to semi assisted or manual the player switching was erratic. At one point I didn’t know who I was controlling.

The game seemed to be bunched in the middle of the park. I tried to spread it wide but no joy. It’s as if the AI wanted it all played in the middle.

Keepers – yes I know but how many years these been broke? Everton had a shot as week as water and Mignolet just let it sail past him. Then for no reason decided to go for a walk about behind the goal! Really poor goal to concede.

One thing I will say and this is where PES is better than Fifa – passing. When you finally get on the ball passing is great.

There are many things wrong with this game and I cant be arsed to list them all. Jimmy has summed it up nicely.

After trying various game speeds and trying different things I find the game a clunky bogged down affair.
That’s me finally done with PES14. I gave it another chance but I don’t think even a patch can save it.

I really wanted to be wrong after my first purchase but sadly I wasnt. Im gutted.

See you for PES15.

Ok just changed my xbox display settings to 480p thinking it wouldn't make any difference - wow was I wrong!!
Shooting on manual is much much better, animations are smoother and the AI seems more aware of what's going on around them. I also scored my first 30 yarder with PSG's Lavezzi
Thanks for the tip BlueChampion, my game plays so much better now and headers are also working well now on manual shooting - game still looks great on 480p and flows much more naturally.
I urge others to give this a try and see PES 2014 in its full gameplay glory

I tried it on my PS3 and i think the game looks just to bad on 480p (556p?) on my HD-tv. So this is not an option for me. Im willing to do a lot for this game but i won't play it this way because it hurt my eyes. It is the year 2013 and we don't live in a pixel world anymore.

Im sorry but changing TV settings wont help you score goals, header the ball and improve AI.

Afraid not Han, I'm just calling it how I see it. :(

There are so many brilliant new additions to this game, and I could go on and on about them. I have a list I've written within the Notepad of my I-Phone of everything that I've noticed that is truly great about this game.

The problem is, that the other issues are massively over-shadowing them for me. With every PES, there has always been minor niggles, but I've been able to move past them. I just can't seem to do this with PES 14, as hard as I try.

I really hope that this November Patch with help rectify them for me, but some are just plain stupid and lazy, and I don't see them being addressed.

If they sort out the shooting, it will go a long way though.

There is an amazing game in there, and the hours I've already put in are testament to that. But I'm just not getting that ultra responsive feeling of PES. I'm just not. :(

I'm also finding Manual Passing to be too Manual, and 1-Bar is now making passes that I'm not aiming for. And I hate that. Although I can partly rectify that with L2, it's still not as good a system as last year.

And one more bitch, WTF is Slo-Mo Replays about ? :CONFUSE:

Last night was angry at the game, today back in love after experimenting a lot with tactical menu. There are lots of stuff waiting to be discovered. I can't imagine myself playing another football game without the equivalent feature to advanced through ball.

To be honest i tried couple of games on 2013 and FIFA 14. 2013 felt heavily railed. I'm afraid the whole game is dated. I actually disliked the super responsive old dribbling mechanic since 2009, typified by the likes of Ronaldo and Obafemi Martins. Free kick was guaranteed goal or on target once you hit the sweet spot (with R2), no matter which player you use. So i kinda appreciate what they did to 2014. But my biggest gripe was the ultra direct AI. I didn't completed more than one season in ML since 2012 because of that.

While FIFA 14 might have nice finishing touch (when scoring), but the whole game felt way too automated and exploitable. The game is made exciting in artificial manner. I'll stop there.

You can, yes and your advice is a good one for sure.

But for me that is not the main problem. The problem is that the AI almost everytime pass it to the near post. That is boring and limited. It doesn't matter if you can or can't defend it. The problem is you will see and play the same situation over and over again.

I must admit I don't really experience this. It might be the fact that after the first time this happened and they scored, I saw what occurred and they haven't scored from it since, but the last 10 Master League games I've played, it was tried once (perhaps twice, but this was a run from Messi where he dribbled out wide and cut in a few times so it felt different anyway).

I'm playing on Pro. Maybe it's the difficulty level you're playing, or the default tactics (or players) in the teams you're playing. Or perhaps the AI will repeat what it finds is successful, or perhaps I'm subconsciously preventing this type of move very early on and the AI instead tries something different!

The lack of magic goals is the main thing for me. I am half way through my second season in the master league with Lyon and won the league last year.

In all the games I have scored 2 goals from outside of the box and 4 headers. The rest of my goals have largely been me being through on goal and shooting left of right of the keeper.

If I try anything like placing the ball or curling it in, almost all of the time the keeper gets it.

I even bought Falcao who has finishing of 98 to try and sort this out and even given time on the edge of box the keepers palms away his shots. I won the league last year with worse players than I have now, but now as I try to play better football I struggle to win a many games.

I have a forward with only very slightly better (1 or 2)speed and agility stats than Falcao and shooting and heading that is at least 20 behind him and he is far more use in the game.

Wth all due respect if you beleive that TV settings will improve everything youve stated you must have a screw lose.

I think it stops any input lag issues, it also seems to make animations flow better and I'm 100% sure it makes shooting feel much better.
Now as far as the heading on manual shooting - this did improve markedly after the last small update from Konami, although it also helps by holding LT as the ball is approaching from a cross - this has been confirmed by trying it in training mode too

No screws loose here, just a game that I'm very happy with now I've fiddled with my xbox display settings and my plasma tv settings

It's back home slice

you can start a CL and your mate can be the AI team

I thought you had quit the game until november patch, wasn't? Did you change your mind already??????

Haha was just one exhibition match when I had a spare twenty minutes before going out. I promise!

Football Life and League Mode have been ditched off. I bought the game in September and I still won't be able to start a proper mode until maybe the beginning of December, due to waiting on option files, transfer updates, data packs, then gameplay patches that I can guarantee will require ML restarts to work. Ridiculous.

Hey, it's the furthest out I've scored by a mile so I'll take what I can get!

It's not really long range though, I agree. I remember in PES2011, 12 and 2013 pulling out some amazing drives from miles out. I'd only manage a few outrageous goals in a few ML seasons but they were enough to make you feel like it was worth trying now and again. This just isn't there in PES2014.

I don't know what they've done but the magic just isn't there, goals feel samey and I already have certain shots when through on the keeper that I know will go in almost every time. That in itself is a giant leap backwards.
