Could you be kind to explain to the others how a real game of football should be played on PES 2014? This statement is becoming quit an escape of highlighting the real problems of PES 2014 but rather drop a "play it like real soccer" thing, is it because of through ball spammers? speed merchant? or what? I have seen through balls in real football, I have seen speed merchant in real football, hell I have seen teams win at all cost in real football.

Through ball spammers: Wouldn't in real football a midfielder like Pirlo/Alonso send a through ball to a striker when he sees a space?

Winger spammers: Wouldn't in real football a winger like Walcott/Lenon start a run of his life on counter just to reach a goal and score/cross?

Not every team play like Barcelona, hell even Barcelona are through ball spammers (in their case it really short passes) because all those passes they do are for nothing except wait for the right opening to send a killer passe in unless Messi/Iniesta comes up with some dribbling magic.

I would understand for those players that all they do is pressing triangle and not do any kind of build up whatsoever.

Fantastic post. Kudos to you buddy.

It sounds like you never have played real football.

I can explain this to you in one word: variation.

Need a second one: patience.

Good football is like playing chess, searching for a solution. Probing left and right, with speed and without speed, on the wings and through the centre...

That is real football... You might just have made an unfortunate post or i might have misread your post (in that case: i apologize), but judged by this post alone, i would say you've never played REAL football.

With all the flaws and the disregard for the customers: this is IMO the best football simulation i've ever played. Yes its is broken, but underneath all the bad things and sloppyness there is a fantastic game hidden, and i agree that it is very well hidden...but it is there.

Hope you don't take this post too personal and i will also not make 23 other post explaining my point. It's all in this one post. Of course be free to disagree.

Early days but already figured out this years MLO "I'm a massive Twat XI"

Mphela
Victor Montano
Emeghara

M'Bia
J Campbell
B Parker

Lolo
steven Vitoria
L. Kone
Cesar Peixoto

Nishikawa

tactics: play these players literally anywhere on the pitch, they are so fast it doesn't matter.

At kick off time, literally try and run straight through the defence, you might get lucky!

OVER THE TOP THROUGH BALLS! SPAM THEM! SPAM THEM HARD!!!

corners: aim for the near post, literally the actual post. it might bounce through and leave you with an easy tap in.

if things aren't going your way, just try an L1 lob, it'll probably go in. it's cheap, but you're a massive twat anyway spo who cares right?

Spot on, this is MLO as it is now.

It would be so much better if:

1 - they remove the feckin ultra high defensive lines in all teams, no matter what tatic you use, and reaally work in AI positioning in defence

2 - They put some awarness in players

3 - they remove that stupid help line in corners and freekicks

4 - they fix the keepers to not let in almost all the Lob shoots, to let in some long range shoots, to have more awarness inside the penalty area, and react faster.

5 - they remove the catchup bug and let faster players get past slow defenders, but it will only work if they fix the points 1, 2 and 4

6 - Fix the shooting, its inconsistent, and sometimes really weak, and inside the area its a joke, floaty as hell.

7 - Fix the LAG, fix the problems when you input a command just to see the bar fill up and the player doing nothing but run, and you lose the ball most of times, or concede a goal when it happens in defense.

8 - Fix the slowdowns and stutter in final 3rd on PS3, in some games its like Slow motion and piss poor response.

This are my main flaws, "other than that" ( as if isn´t enough to just don´t buy the game ) the game plays great, and sometimes it really resembles real football, but with this flaws its nothing more than a 60% finished product, with poor polishment, poor modes, to much bugs to call it playable specially ONLINE

Those 2 posts are precisely waht I think about the game. Let's hope the oncoming patch fixes at least half of those problems so we can focus on patience and variation.

The keyword to all the stuttering and shit awarenss issues - HEART!

I played a season now on professional with Spurs, got in a great form, started winning matches, and the fluidity of the games were just excellent, movement was right, touches were good, awareness was (for the most time) there, no stuttering or input lag. I started winning games with five goals and more, so I upped the ante to Top Player. Had a couple of tough games, fun games, two draws, seemed very well balanced, and very realistic.

Then the drop of heart happened, and I had a home match against Hull. My players could barely receive a pass or string two passes together. It was just insane how incredibly sluggish the gameplay was. While I agree that the heart/morale thing is a huge part of football (as we saw last weekend when Wet Spam hammered Spurs at WHL), it shouldn't effect the gameplay as much as it does, as it renders the game almost unplayable and iiiiincredibly annoying to play.

I'm pretty sure it's the heart thing that does this, as I had a lot of games as free flowing and fun as free training when the players heart were warm or in good shape or whatever it is.

Spot on. If they fix all these issues, we have a great game on our hands.

The player switching needs work too. Not sure if you were counting that in your awareness line. The number of times I've tried to swap player but the game has decided who that pass was meant for regardless of my R1+R2 and L1 mashing... it costs goals at both ends of the pitch.

That's why I suggested people turn it off weeks ago;) It's unnecessary and doesn't work. Stats, player form and your skill as the game player are enough variables.

Can you disable it on league, cup, ml, bal game modes ?

Player form is as big nonsense as heart, since its completely random. After scoring a hat-trick or having great performance with a player, he often becomes blue/purple on next game.

How do we turn off this heart in exhibition matches to test?

Seriously? The fuck was in this patch on the 360 which was supposedly just to enable faster data pack download?

Had a friend round today who played offline with me for 6 games and he swears it's a different game too (he hadn't updated).

The game has improved so much. As smooth as silk. Gk's still random wankers but crap, the game is brilliant.

A half-decent gameplay patch in the next major release and this game is nigh on perfect. No lag on 360, everything is going great. CPU fouls/cards/pk's. Loving it.

Edited to say, I have the pc version also, very different experience.

There is this nice folder thing at the bottom of Game plan :D.

Save settings there.

Or you can also go to Edit -> Teams -> Select League -> Team -> Game plan

Set tactical assistance to Offside trap on.

Exit Edit more. Presto :P.

I'm done with the game until the patch, it's a shocking package overall. Really, really poor. Don't get me wrong, the game in the middle of the park, when it's actually working properly, is a brilliant game and I love how they're going down the more 'simulation' route, for lack of a better word.

BUT.

The game is all over the place. One minute it's amazing, the next it's so awful it's embarrassing. I started a ML today with Intercational in the Brazilian league. What a shambles. I won my first game 3-1 and turned it off with little to no inclination to play it again. Why? Well, here goes.

Firstly, ML as a whole. There's NOTHING to do in it. It's like everything that is PES, everything that makes the series and makes ML in particular has been ripped out of it.

- It starts with large, horrible, clunky, slow menus.
- There is nothing to do.
- I saw my fixture list and noticed I had consecutive away games in a row for no reason.
- All you can do is play as in League Mode but make transfers. Transfers that you don't even handle yourself. You can't value your own players. You can decide how much to bid for players but there's no real sense of negotiation about any of it.
- I thought the in-game music was so awful that I switched it off. I then realised I'm playing this utterly bare bones shambles of a game mode, with a buggy match experience, that's now so bare bones it's in complete silence during the menus because I can't even stand the dire music. I feel like I'm playing a beta version.

No in-game music, nothing to do, what tiny amounts of things there are to do, half of them are wrong in some way or another, menus are slow, everything pretty much sucks about this mode. There's zero immersion whatsoever. Then I took to the pitch, on Superstar level. Just like others, my first league match, I was under a bit of pressure, then the AI just seemingly gave up and I scored three of the most pathetic goals I've ever witnessed in PES. The game just stopped trying and let me score three times. I also saw all the things that annoy me.

Goal number one - I head towards goal from a corner, straight at the COM keeper, who just palms it into his own side-netting for 1-0. Rubbish goal.

Goal number two - in any other PES this would be a wonder goal for me, but instead I sat there open-mouthed at how the COM was letting my left-back stroll from the halfway line, unnopposed, into their six yard box before chipping their keeper. Four players ran at me during his 50-yard run, all of them got to within a yard of me then didn't challenge and let me run in on goal. Their keeper just stayed on his line and I borderline walked the ball into the net. 2-0.

The COM then scored, to make it 2-1, when their player hit a really, really weak shot from 25 yards STRAIGHT at my keeper. He could have chested the ball down, it was so weak, but no, he fell to the ground for no reason and let the ball hit the top of his outstretched arm and deflected it into the net. I mean he didn't need an outstretched arm in the first place if he hadn't MOVED OUT OF THE WAY OF THE BALL in the first place. Ridiculous.

Finally, 3-1, I go up the other end and play a chipped through pass. My forward is surrounded by two defenders on the edge of the box, both close in on him, then decide to run in the opposite direction and stop running entirely, leaving me one v one with the keeper, who again stays on his line. 3-1.

The rest of the game, the COM returns to normal and closes me down as usual, but all three goals left me feeling empty about scoring the goal and annoyed that the COM had just let me score them. On top of that, the COM's consolation goal was from atrocious goalkeeping too.

I then go back to the ML menus, with no sound, no music, and nothing to do. I turned the game off at that point and thought I'd go play some GTA V instead.

I've been a PES fan since the ISS days back on the SNES but this is the last straw. There game is buggy, the modes bare (I mean playing a ML or League Mode kind of sucks when there's such a tiny amount of stadiums, I end up playing several away games in a row in the same ones time after time), and I STILL can't download the Data Pack 1 allowing online play as my computer is out of action so no community fix, and it still won't download.

How they've managed to ruin the defensive, competitive side of the offline game, I'll never know. Keepers no longer leave their goal line to cut down angles like a proper keeper should, nor do they come to meet a striker when he's running in on goal. The game veers from the COM being nicely competitive in closing down and tackling, to randomly letting you walk through them. I just don't get it. PES2013 and before all had their problems, but the thing that kept me coming back to them was the sense of achievement in scoring a goal, something completely removed from this game.

The lack of pretty much anything resembling a game package can be forgiven if the gameplay is great, and when it works, it is, but, seriously, you can't even get a consistent gameplay experience from game mode to game mode here. It's all over the place. And for that, I'm out. I can only hope that FIFA14 on next-gen can provide some gameplay approaching anywhere near good. At least it'll provide a comprehensive package.

For some of you guys this game is like the ugly girl with the fit body. I ain't going to fuck her again! Ok one more time! Ugly cow i don't know what i see in you! But the tits and arse are so good. Something like that. Me this year i love her all over and i'm not looking for perfection, just a good session.:P

@suuuuupertalk

ML is fucked this year, on and off the pitch I was scoring goals like you described every game in my campaign till I had enough its like playing against beginner defence. League mode is much better for some reason have to work a lot harder for my goals.

This game was clearly released a few months too early but still having a lot of fun with it and looking forward to the update in November.

FIRST BOLD: I play real football.
SECOND BOLD: variation : Every game in PES is different so I don't have one way of playing, I mimic style of play of team I use.

THIRD BOLD: You can't score 100 goals by being impatient in PES

FOURTH BOLD: You didn't help at al, I knew that already

FIFTH BOLD: Yeah you misread me completely

SIXTH BOLD: Apologies accepted.

My biggest problem with PES 2014 = Heart

If only I could turn it off in Competitions/ML

The feature isn't working per real life emotions/motivations.

@suuuuupertalk

But there's nothing to do. Exhibition Mode doesn't work properly, the game is for some reason miles easier than competition modes (which was always the case in PES, but this time friendlies are way too easy). League Mode seems the best mode to play but there are still problems that there is nothing to do. ML and Football Life in general, as you say, is appalling at best. There must be a bug in the game somewhere making defenders in ML break down, because it swayed in one game from being tightly contested to the COM making their defenders all but run away from you as you ran in on goal.

And as for keepers, well, that's been said already.

You're right, League Mode is by far the best but that's not gonna keep me occupied for long, even after the patch. It's a sad state of affairs where League Mode is the best game mode to play, basically because ML is so badly implemented that virtually all features of the mode are annoying or don't work properly.

I got that opposition defenders back off bug as well in newly created master league with default ml squad. They just stood close to their goal and stopped reacting to me attacking at all.

It was for several possesions while rest of the game was fine, really weird.

Sadly i don't like the way the AI plays at all. Every clearance is a perfectly timed pass. Almost every trough ball is perfectly timed too. The AI knows only two ways of attacking - a trough ball or a run down the wing. Kind of disappointing.

Not one single long range shot attempt from the AI in all my games till now (surly 100 games played). Not one goal after a corner from the AI till now.

I don't know im not that "past games PES 5 or 6 was the best" kind of guy but back in the old days a clearance was a clearance and not a perfect pass every time. And back in the days the AI hits you with beautiful long range shots now and then. Why is that gone?

I love this game as long as i got the ball. It is so free and you can do so much but as soon as you lost the ball it becomes really boring because the AI only knows those two ways of attacking. And to be honest i don't believe this will change after a patch.

Unless people reading this don't know, in League Mode you also play in a domestic cup and can qualify for both European/Asian/south American cups as well. It's basically ML without the transfers and much better defending!!!

That's another issue I have with the game, I've given up hitting long range shots because you can't score them unless they go in off the bar. And yeah, the COM absolutely never, ever tries a long range shot. I think I've seen the COM try a long range shot once since I bought the game on release day. This is another step back in gameplay terms. The last game where I remember the COM being any good at long range shots was PES2011.

There's a great technical game in places but there's no magic. No variation in goals.

I don't understand how most of people say that the AI is not good in this game. In my opinion AI this year do the basics of football in a right manner. Previous years when i was seeing the AI do more elaborate stuff on offense, it felt more like scripting rather than cpu decisions on the spot.
This years AI feels more natural and more earth-grounded. I agree thought that AI can be greatly enhanced but this year's AI is very good base because makes basic stuff in the right way.
