I love the game and have had great games on it. Two player games start off fine and suffer bad slowdown after a couple of games.
The game does slow down badly also in single player game against the AI.

I am talking about the ps3 version here. The xbox version is quite superb offline as i get no slowdown at all. The keepers perform admirably also.

The free kicks i find remarkably easy to score and that is with the line off. I feel it spoils the game a tad as their so easy.

One issue I have with the long range shooting is that if you rifle a shot to the top corner, why is the keeper's animation to catch the ball??? In that situation, they should be tipping the ball over the bar or to the side of the post.

This is quite a big issue for me as well. I don't like it, it feels too pre-determined. The same applies to the long-range shooting. It's pretty much impossible from anything beyond 30 yards. The keeper positioning is just too good, and the exact opposite of last year. I was just want a happy medium. I really hope this is fixed in the patch, as the beauty of PES has always been the ability to score from anywhere, no matter how rarely it happens.

I appreciate that many keepers don't get beat from that sort of distance that often. But still, it happens.

It's the one aspect that doesn't feel like PES to me anymore. It sickens me actually. :(

Also, we played a 4-Player offline League the other night, and in 3 of the games, the game started to stutter quite badly. There were nasty frame-rate issues, and the game looked horrible. We had to substitute a player on every occasion for the game to go back to normal.

Also, I had a glitch the other night whilst playing my son, where every player I touched on my Formation Screen just disappeared. So I literally had no players at all. I had to reset the PS3 to sort it out. Crazy.

Apart from those issues, really loving it. But the game certainly isn't the finished article, and I don't think I've ever said that before.

Not sure what the corner trick does? What effect does it have?

I shoot while running or while pressing sprint and find it inconsistent. Sometimes it's great but other times when every factor is right for a powerful shot, the same player can hit an accurate but weak shot.

I have no idea, I've just been experimenting with doing different things while taking corners, and I've found this to be quite effective, seems to give the cross in more power, and more often than not, one of my players in the box will meet it.

Completely agree with chimps regarding heart - once you're on a streak, you just need to keep on going, the game plays wonderfully when your players have heart, no input lag, stuttering or shit awareness.

Even you, a die hard pes player, finally admits to stutter issue with frame rates. I remember you breaking an old disc for a newer version.

How can this game be sent out without prior testing.

It's only happened a few times, but still, in this day and age, it's not acceptable. Neither is the slowdown, although that has been reduced to very slight, by changing the PS3 settings to 720i, or 720p, whatever.

I have the game installed to my HD as well.

Hopefully this new patch resolves these issues. It's a crying shame to spoil something so brilliant with these silly niggles. But that is Konami all over.

I feel you. For the first time in years since 2007, judging by the training gameplay, I can say pes is back. But unfortunately, I have a highly feeling they won't be able to replicate the gameplay to other modes or have a proper patch that can fix the slowdown.

I have installed to hd and 720p but slowdown is still very obvious especially on more than single player.

That happens when Controller 1 is the away side and Controller 2 is the home side - Controller 1 can't touch his players on the formation screen without them disappearing. You can play vs the cpu as the away team and it doesn't happen, only when you're playing 1v1. The only solution is to have Controller 1 always the home team, or to physically swap controllers.

Just had two brilliant games with Liverpool v Urawa Reds - both free flowing, creative games with Liverpool winning the first 2-1 thanks to Luis Suarez being brilliant from the opening whistle. The second game was different with the J- League team playing counter attacking football but thanks to Skrtel having an immense game we drew 1-1.
When you get your head around this game it is a thing of beauty, when a passing move flows from inside your own half and the final defense splitting flick comes off I can't help but shout and carry on like I'm watching a real game - but if you let your guard down defensively you will be punished like a red headed step child.
Playing professional level, 2 bar pass assist, advanced thru balls and manual shooting. Best PES ever made if you play it like a real game of football - worst PES ever made if you expect to play it like all the other PES games, and that's part of the problem I think some people are having.

Interesting to hear about the slowdown complaints offline. I've never had any slowdown or stuttering at all. Gameplay has always been smooth and fluid on my end. Must be a regional thing...

Agree. Maybe not the "best ever", but very very good.

agree 100%

on the shooting debate. a hell of a lot of my shots drag past the far post. am i doing something wrong? might have to go back into training

I don't find free kicks easy to score. Regarding the shooting though it needs tweaking. I like it to some degree in that player stats play a big part in successful and good looking goals, but it's not consistent and reliable enough for the average player. I think Konami got themselves in a bit of muddle by trying to implement 3 different shooting models, which is unnecessary.

Which console are you on? It's affecting random users on the PlayStation which is even more perplexing. It's not the tv or ps3 model. I've tested out exclusively. And the other training thread will tell you how many are suffering the same.

Nah i've not tried that...i didn't want to jinx it while i was actually enjoying the game...

Might do this after work this evening.

Just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced the same thing.

I've played it with and without for the last few hours and got a mate to do it too (didn't tell him which was which) and something has definitely changed. Played anout a dozen games in total.

PS3 with UK PSN version.

Mmmm did you tried playing vs a friend face to face, not online?
The gameplay changes almost completely, the lag button response increases and when you play near the box the game turns like -5 speed.

Vs CPU no problem with slowdowns.

I could repost the above a million times to give it emphasis.
I play on 1-bar passing , advanced through, manual shooting UNNASISTED cursor change and superstar difficulty.

This game plays nowhere near any football game that's been produced until the year 2014. This is the first time that i feel that positioning is more important than speed. Konami plz keeping moving on this direction.

I don't mind having Heart in ML, It just happens that it either random (which wasn't suppose to be, it was suppose to work per performance/crowd support/home game ...) or it is not even implemented to work. At least you had orange hearts with your two youngster. I am been playing ML with Madrid, it is now match 27, they are always blue, always blue, I'm top of the league and still in the Champions League, what on earth do I have to do to get it to work? To be honest I'm getting bored of playing the same lame games without any magic at all, I win some, draw or lose but I don't feel anything whatsoever? The joy of playing this game is going day after day, I can get sometimes excited with the animations and so but isn't it what I hated FIFA in the first place? Didn't I hate FIFA because the animations were priority instead of timing?

To be honest, they are lot of things that I hated about the other game that are now frustrating me with PES. I just want Heart OUT of ML. I had a match with Barcelona in Copa Del Rey which I won, then they lost in La Liga to Athletico, just after that we played CL, but they were all orange/red but mine are blue after 10 wins in a row WTF? I'm looking for a balanced game which PES 2014 doesn't offer, I might just give up on this game for the second time. I just can't understand how a good gameplay like this is broken by AI, and Adam doesn't want to admit that this game is unfinished.

I don't know if I'll have the courage to wait for a month to have a patch ... and only God knows with Konami (Never trust them), I might again be disappointed by the so called November patch.

Yes, this experience you describe is exasperating. I can see how you might get frustrated...

but I can only say that in my ML with Utrecht, heart is related to performance and crowd response. In other words, my form arrows are totally random and bizarre, but if my team plays well and if particular players play well, the heart turns yellow, orange, then red. It is meaningful in that way.

I wonder if it is harder to get good heart for top-level teams, like Madrid. Or if there are other factors than performance. I've noticed that a team of blue hearts will soften if I introduce a good-heart teammate as a substitute. I also notice that if I leave out a good-heart player (because of a blue form arrow, for example) the starting eleven, even if they have decent heart, will not play well (poor response, misplaced passes, infrequent runs) until I sub that player on. Youth players, in that respect, really matter in this ML.

Anyway, it is far from perfect. It's stupid, for example, that I can't see hearts change on the formation page, during a match. It would help plently with substitutions and tactics. I feel for you; it would turn me off ML if I had your experience with Madrid.

--good day...

What's the proper way to use manual shooting? I'm using it the same way as last year, but cannot seem to get some lift on it. I can score in the bottom corner, but I want to learn how to put it into the top corner.

I seem to always get the low shot (without using the triangle button modifier. Is there one this year?)

Sometimes I also shoot it way over the bar randomly around 8 yards away from goal, but I can only put shots over the bar when I'm that close to goal, not when I'm far away. Something tells me I must be doing it wrong.

What are all the control commands available for manual shooting this year? I know R2 is still there. I know L1 can now do low chip as well as high lobs.

I also know in advanced shooting you can lean forward and backward with L-Stick to get a low or high shot. Does this work the same for manual shooting?

test with the following camera settings: 9 9 7

I play with my friends and no more slowdowns near the box...

And maybe Ipswich69 maybe he does not have the problem to be the digital version of the game. I have seen that most people who say they bought the digital game does not have the problem.

I agree. :)

Can someone please give me some advice on shooting (PS3)? I just can't seem to get the required power.

When taking long shots it's ok (however I'm very disappointed with how scripted it seems to be....the way the GK seem to fly through the air and catch a ball that's flying into the top corner). The problem is more when shooting inside the box, every shot seems to be too floaty. I've tried the following:
- holding shoot button for longer
- editing 'kicking power' stats
- giving players the 'long ranger' card

In previous versions, these tweaks have worked but not in this game! It really is spoiling the game for me, as I can't seem to score the variety of goals, which has always made PES so much fun over the years :(

I use 'basic' shooting....would changing that make a difference? What shooting setting do you guys use? Cheers in advance.

I'm using manual shooting and really enjoying it - also hold RB when shooting for a placed curling shot with less power, inside the box a quick press of the shoot button is usually all the power you need to make the goalkeeper work

If you're using custom controls, please convert the controls back when giving advice! Gets so confusing otherwise.

I played someone who had a Konami email address as their team name on MLO. The game was extremely laggy, same double passing / non-passing and atrocious player switching vs Emeghara as ever. I had a bit of a chat with him (initially a sarky comment about Konami's servers needing an upgrade from 1999). According to him I need to contact my ISP and ask them to optimise my connection for gaming P2P. He was actually quite accommodating, given he wasn't at work and he was willing to send quite a few messages to and fro about it. I'll give what he said a go, I'm a bit skeptical but who knows?

The game I had immediately after my last message with him was actually smooth as butter, to the point where I struggled because I was so used to the game playing at a quarter of the speed and players not doing exactly what I asked and when. Still - got the win...

MLO is such a great concept, to the point where I'm consistently putting myself through that online experience just so I can get more points and scratch my head over what the best thing to do with my winnings. If FUT didn't have all this nonsense about chemistry and (Sno) in-formers, and it took months to get to the point where you had one gold-ranked player, I might be interested. What's the point in having such a massive roster of players if 80% of them would be a massive downgrade on what you start with?

Had some super games against my nephew last night on the xbox version. My keeper in particular was superb at times, although did make a few errors.

I'm gutted really because i can't play it on ps3, my preferred format. I am playing pes 2013 online to tide me over. I had to laugh as i was playing a mate online, i took a mouthful of my tea at half time and noticed it had dripped onto my fingers as we started the 2nd half.

All of a sudden i couldn't control my players, i looked down and no light on my joypad. Obviously tea had got into it, suffice to say i ended up losing the game 2 0.

Gutted as i only just paid £40 for the pad.

Could you be kind to explain to the others how a real game of football should be played on PES 2014? This statement is becoming quit an escape of highlighting the real problems of PES 2014 but rather drop a "play it like real soccer" thing, is it because of through ball spammers? speed merchant? or what? I have seen through balls in real football, I have seen speed merchant in real football, hell I have seen teams win at all cost in real football.

Through ball spammers: Wouldn't in real football a midfielder like Pirlo/Alonso send a through ball to a striker when he sees a space?

Winger spammers: Wouldn't in real football a winger like Walcott/Lenon start a run of his life on counter just to reach a goal and score/cross?

Not every team play like Barcelona, hell even Barcelona are through ball spammers (in their case it really short passes) because all those passes they do are for nothing except wait for the right opening to send a killer passe in unless Messi/Iniesta comes up with some dribbling magic.

I would understand for those players that all they do is pressing triangle and not do any kind of build up whatsoever.

Cheers mate, will have to revert to manual shhoting then to see if that helps.

Same as you. Except happens for me in single player too. It's especially evident on PlayStation. Weird people aren't bugging or bothering Adam more on this.
