The only way we can prevent this in future is to return our games and not get a copy next year until they patch it.

It's a horrific disgrace and to see people defending it even is just.....

Have you returned your game yet?

Lol, I didn't mean to entirely trashtalk Pes 2014. In fact I wrote a very long post here praising it to heaven not so long ago, but still there is something missing, and thats what I wanted to point out. In Pes 2, you immideatly feel the game has a steady spine, and when you control a player you instantly BECOME him. Every course of his action is you. In Pes 14 its more like you just control the player, without really feeling you become him. The tension is not there. Its a bit slobby and soulless. This would partly get sorted by better player awareness and responsivness.

So in PES 2, you instantly become the player and find that you, as the player, can only move and pass the ball in 8 directions. That must be odd.

The funniest thing about your post is when you said, roughly, 'all Konami needs to do is take PES 2 and add improved graphics, animations, 360 degree movement and passing and manual controls. It would be f-ing brilliant'.

I'm pretty sure that Konami is trying hard to do this - i.e. recreate the old games on new generation hardware, with the new generation bells and whistles. The point is that, clearly, it is not a piece of p*ss to do this. If it were a piece of p*ss, Konami would have done it already and would be counting the money.

I think a big problem is that people assume it's easy to make these games. What leads people to that conclusion?

It's one thing to play devil's advocate about this debate, but ultimately, when you're talking about an annual title such as PES, you cannot equate this level of 'We'll fix it later' with a title such as GTA which is of an unprecedented scale, or FIFA which has a far less dense quantity of bugs and balancing issues to be fixed despite being a larger title spanning this gen and next. It's impossible to objectively look at the PES 2014 development and release process and not come to the conclusion that Konami hit far more significant scheduling and resource issues than they ever have before. Even allowing for the bog-standard post-release patching cycle games have become comfortable with in recent times, PES 2014 is two months undercooked.

I have to agree. Whilst it's quite common, I don't know of any 'fix-it later' games that have yearly sequels. As such, it's more of a problem when the time that the game is expected to lead the marker is reduced. This isn't like Arma 3 for instance where the game is going to exist for a good 3 or 4 years before the next one and the developers are still invested in the game. I don't mind buying an unfinished product but it's easier to swallow when I know the game will have a significant life-span. I simply don't trust Konami to fix it. I think they'll be thinking about 2015 at this point.

I hope I'm wrong.

this is where I get jealous of EA Sports and FIFA.

They can separate their teams to do different jobs. There are already 2 teams. One is doing CG version of FIFA (Rutter is off this project). The next team is focusing SOLELY on NG version (yep, Rutter is on it).

KONAMI and PES Team don't seem capable of doing this with resources they have. So one team is focusing on ALL platforms. This is bad and NG won't change how the team works.

If this continues to happen even with PES 2015, they will lose a lot of consumers. Again. With PES 2014 - they already pissed off a lot of fans...

Personally, and yet again i prefered the demo to the retail version and i had nothing but high praise for the demo.Even to the point where i thought it was opus and the promised land.

Theres little doubt in my mind that they made the ball heavier and the players lighter in the retail version. The passing for me just felt better in manual in the demo and although the player movements felt slower as where the animation cycles this completely reversed in the retail code.

I think as long as konami get a reasonable return of around 5 million sales plus with pes there happy.I also dont think pes14 is a game built from scratch,i initially did but now feel its the pes13 engine with havok physics, more animations and fox assets ie graphics, but it ends there.

Im also not convinced pes15 is going to be much different,as pes still feels like a game heavily based on old coding methods and ageing tech and it will probably take another two years for konami to really get a stranglefold on modern tech.

Theres alot of good in pes14,the passings great and rewarding as is the build up play, but thats where it ends and sadly it still feels very last gen interms of ai awareness, response and general gameplay.

Ea as always is made out to be the bogey man but i actually for the first quite like what they have brought to the table this year in fifa14,and if they can move forward even more in the realism stakes and not pander to there core casual audience they might actually be onto something.Theres little doubt fifa now is a reasonably well rounded game on the pitch and certainly with a like minded manual player plays a much better game of footie then pes currently, and thats putting the rest of the package aside like ultimate team which im certainly enjoying currently.

Its weird, once fifa was totally dire, devoid of good gameplay and all about licenses and graphics, when now for me its more of a simulation then pes, certainly in the manual settings.Ea actually are trying make a better game and bring alot of what pes fans want to there table, and i repeat its refined as hell and plays a very descent and solid end to end game of football, and whats really weird is the passing and movement of the players actually isnt that massively different then pes14.You can hop between both games and theres no real learning curve.

Theres no doubt konami are in trouble,it may be financial or a unwillingness to want to spend big and get alot back and just employ the same safe business model of yesteryear which seems to be a trend of most japanese developers now.

I also think the age old argument that pes is more technical and football minded has lost its resonance now and for those willing maybe to try what the competition is offering might actually realise the difference between the two is now more about polish and refinement then massive key differences on the pitch.

Im a konami man, have been since the NES,but for me fifa is now a much more attractive proposition with friends..its not about licenses or the package its about the footie on the pitch.

Quick tip for anyone interested, when the ball is near your keeper, NEVER, EVER press triangle to bring him nearer to the ball. The only occasion you should use this is to bring him out from his goal say near the edge of his own penalty area. NEVER use it to bring him out to, say, a pass or cross between his six yard box and penalty spot. It confuses the shit out of the keeper and makes him stand there and do nothing a lot of the time. Either that or he'll just fumble the ball. Don't press anything and he'll just do his own thing.

Don't know if it's a bug but I tried using triangle again to get to a through pass close in on goal, he just ran past the ball and left an empty net.

Also, I'm getting real tired, real fast, of scoring goals through tackling AI defenders in their own penalty area. I just scored yet another one where the COM keeper palmed out a shot into the six yard box, and I tackled the COM defender who just stood with the ball doing nothing until my challenge came in. We saw this kind of thing back in PS1 days!

Anyone else finding master league messed up this year? About 30 games in and now finding the cpu defensive ai backing off me even when sprinting into the box allowing me a free shot.

Played in league mode and no such problem (closing me down much more efficiently) really strange can't play my master league campaign because the problem is so bad.

The weird thing is it only started happening in my last 5-10 games not sure if it's a bug?

YES. THOUGHT I WAS INSANE.

Posted about this a few weeks back. Had it on Top Player but the difference between ML and the CL was clear as day, the defensive AI is absolutely hapless in the former. How strange.

Also the number of interceptions online are a joke. Absolutely no incentive to keep possession, as any pass runs the risk of being magnetically attracted to an opposition strikers boot. Turns it into a frantic end to end kick and rush affair.

You have to force and fool yourself into liking this game in its current state..

Btw, dribbling is a total mess. Doesn't feel good at all. Using the right stick is nice, but you don't get that awesome feeling when beating a player, its just slobby..

Not sure what "slobby" means but dribbling is great this year. Takes practice and effort, especially with slower and less skilled players, but feels good when you beat someone.

Glad I'm not the only one, thing is it's not even subtle it's beyond ridiculous. I can throw the ball to my striker in the box and nobody will challenge him leaving me with free space to run and score.

Going to give up on master league this year unless it gets sorted in a patch, league mode is not that different anyway.

I already forwarded the issue of AI defending lacking aggression and seems content to just backing off even inside their own penalty box. I think it is a known issue, since many are reporting it. Adam and @officialpes shouldn't be oblivious to it if they really did play the game.

But from my experience after completing 1 1/2 of ML, it doesn't happen every time. I'm not sure if it depend on team style or completely random.

Have you tried playing a different mode to master league? See if defensive ai is as bad.

I would like to hear from you how the quality of the connection is, especially from 11 vs 11.
It would be miraculous if it works fine.
1 vs 1 lags already, so how would playing with more people affect the connection?
Maybe it is a completely rewritten netcode. That would be good news!

Very busy week for me so I have not plaed much - so far I have played a around 7 matches ranging from 2v2 to 4v4, 11v11 is hard to find as there are very limited number of users
I have had 1 disconnect
1 game I hosted in SOuth Africa with a 10mbps line which is rougly 8mbps download and 270 odd m.s ping was a bit laggy
but 5 where very good
Positives

The speed is as per offline
You can select camera
The advanced thruball bug is not an issue
Manual shooting is hard and true - you can head crosses :APPLAUD:
Player switching is good
You can set the room limitations
You can select to play as one or multiple players
Can set difficulty
The refs punish reckless tackles alot better than the current game

Negatives
Only have WEunited and PESunited as teams to select
Keepers are weak but it could be due to the teams
The game stutters for a few secs after restart (goals, kickoffs, goalkicks, throwins, free kicks etc)
People play like muppets LOL

All in all I hope they keep this speed and fix up the stutter. This game was rushed out 2 months too early - The new engine was already a HUGE leap and Konami needed time to fine tune, this beta for example should have been released a month prior to release to test online. Will test more this weekend but so far I am cautiously optimistic

Hi, I'm in Australia now

I doubt I'll be able to play this game for a while since i don't yet have a proper flatshare, and i don't have a laptopp that can play it. It seems everyone hates the game again anyway

I doubt I'll be around for this month in October, November I'll see what happens.

Enjoy your stay buddy. The A-League kicks off tomorrow night so hopefully you can get along to a few games :)

I'm flat out at work but there's quite a few comments I agree with here unfortunately. I'd like to post some more detailed thoughts later if I can. Might be my first year without a football game! But at least it gives me time to play GTA and other unfinished games :P

This is something I've mentioned before. Annual sports titles don't have time on their side when it comes to patching issues. They have to hit the ground running or fall by the wayside. Sadly I think PES2014 will do the latter as many players lose patience with the game in its current state. Konami should have had a patch ready to go right out of the gate rather than using buyers as test subjects, something that is becoming all too common.

It's such a shame as PES2014 really could have been the definitive football title. It still could be, but I fear there is too much for Konami to put right this year.

There is enough about the game for me to enjoy but I totally understand why others are abandoning ship this year. Another letdown from Konami unfortunately.

I really still think the game in the training mode is better than anything we have ever seen before. But thats because my game slows like mad everytime we go near the penalty box. Maybe they expected me to be seedorf on every attack.

No excuses for being testers. I'm liking the slatings. It's excellent and very well called for. Look at their Twitter and Facebook. I think it's the worst response they've ever faced.

You do realise that whatever might be right or wrong with this game, most of the slatings on that Facebook page are very obviously from little sprint-spamming kids whining that the game is "boring" because they can't win 16-15 in a 5 minute match, running up and down with bloody Ronaldo? And that if Konami react to this, it'll be to make the game much worse?

Look, I love the game, but I'm as aware as anyone that there's loads of really annoying shit wrong with it. My main concern, though, is that Konami keep this current style of gameplay and don't listen to the horrible kids. If all the criticisms were just saying "slowdowns in the box, keepers crap, online laggy, various glitches BUT KEEP THE ACTUAL GAME PRETTY MUCH AS IT IS" - then fine. I know some of them are saying just that, but a lot of them aren't. They're just saying "this is shit", "terrible gameplay", "it's boring", "you can't sprint fast enough", "it's unresponsive" (when the quick fix to make a game "more responsive" is to turn it into a FIFA-style ice skating championships). I wouldn't be too gleeful about all this criticism, not just yet.

What is it all the cool kids say now, "This". Well said.

Post of the month. That's all they need to do. But it's Konami, so I think that's a little difficult.

+1. Well said :TU: I have been noticing online spammers/runners like chicken with their heads cut off, can't win anymore because they are used to the previous arcade style of gameplay. Sorry kids, it's time to go back to FIFA where you came from to begin with. Or learn to adapt and play proper football!

Keep the gameplay the same and fix the glitches. That's all need to be done.
