Just played Pes 2 (ps2) and gosh what a fantastic piece of game. The animations, physical battles, mind blowing individuality, shooting and overall feel of the game is so much more alive, heavy and real. I mean if konami just took that game, brought it a bit better graphics, animations, 360 + manual controls and a little slower passing it would be a raw fucken brilliant extremely addicting and fun game. I'm gonna stick to Pes 2 until november patch actually, its so good.. Pes 14 felt like a slobby boring mess afterwards. It made me realize that its not just about simulation, but a game with a real soul that drags you in and lets you feel it.

Great game, but it shouldn't have 90% of issues described there...

Other than response issues related to keepers and shots and headers in the penalty area, as well as automatic replays for every incident on the field, I don't have any complaints about PES 2014 really. I love it. Plays a great game of football. Feels good too because I didn't like PES 2008-2013 and now I can finally exhale:SMUG: That being said, I realize Konami are a bit inept at certain things and anything they can do to provide a patch that will improve the game is welcome. Would love to see more people enjoying it:))

LOL. OK fair enough, you have the crown for the moment. But don't take it for granted. Soon, someone else will come along and say they busted out their Super Nintendo and find International Superstar Soccer (1995) to be the pinnacle of virtual football. They will say that 2014 is nothing but a cruel joke in comparison, and that even PES 2 is just for kids like you who want flashy graphics and pointlessly-realistic animations.

So, savour ever last moment spent with that piece of gold resting on your noggin. Mark my words - you will be dethroned before long.

:OOOH:

I believe we might get gameplay patch sooner than November. All is in KONAMI hands really.

They know their game is not good in a lot of areas imho. If not, then wtf were they smoking before releasing the game? Is there any Quality Assessment team there?

What they released is more like low-budget game at times not high-quality product they strive for.

Just saying. I still play it.

The problem is the communication. What makes you think they think their game is buggy? 0 direct apology and communication from them. Ea admitted their mistake on day 0 ffs.

Where are you guys getting your japan version of Winning Eleven 2014? PlayAsia? It's almost double the price of Winning Eleven 2014 Asia/PES 2014.

Look, I am enjoying the game for what it is but let's not be blinkered - the game is littered with problems and clearly isn't finished.

That's unacceptable, even in the age of post-release patches.

Then consider this:-

PC players were told they were getting a demo shortly after release. Now they are not getting one at all.

PC players were told the game would be available on Steam, day one. Still waiting.

Player rosters are badly out of date. We have no indication of when this will be corrected. If it comes in November then a wait of two months is unacceptable.

Well over half the stadia have disappeared yet Konami see fit to remove the stadium editor.

If this isn't stark unprofessionalism and disregard for loyal fans then I don't know what is.

I completely agree with this post. At most a week after release there should have been DLC with the correct rosters.

The framerate drops are a disgrace and there should be no framerate drops regardless on what console you play or with what setting on your console or television.

When pre-ordering, we were promised La Bonbonera, i haven't seen any La Bombonera.

Yes, this is perhaps the best football game ever, but it is an unfinished product which should not have gone in retail. It is a disgrace. Konami can learn a thing or two from EA. And don't come with the argument that gameplay is the most important aspect. I don't think anybody on this site will disagree with this argument, but it is not an excuse for an unfinished product.

Some people here are criticising EA, but at least with them you know as customer what you will get (like or not, that is even a service to the people who don't like FIFA), with Konami you never know what you will get...every year the game is completely different and even the demo is different from the retail version.

And after the DLC the game might once again be completely different. I'm not talking about repairs for the obvious flaws, i'm talking about the general feeling of the game. It might be a completely different game once again.

I scored a great individual goal last night only to look at the replay and find out the reason I could dribble into the box and shoot was.because the COM defenders surrounding my player backed off even when I got ten yards from goal. It's quite a big problem.

Another problem is that when I'm through on goal and one v one with the keeper, the AI makes him stay on his line. Because of this I can score virtually every single time, which is the complete opposite of PES2013. In fact twice last night I was able to run the ball to within six or seven yards from goal without the AI keeper reacting and just blast the ball into the roof of the net at full power, because I was so close to goal that I couldn't put the ball over the bar.

The game definitely isn't finished. Expecting big things of the next patch.

The only way we can prevent this in future is to return our games and not get a copy next year until they patch it.

It's a horrific disgrace and to see people defending it even is just.....

The problem is that underneath all this sloppyness and distaste for the customers, there is a great game...that makes it very hard to return our games.

You don't return something you enjoy, but this game lacks a finishing touch. At the best they sold a beta version...

Yes, it's sad I'm not returning the game I paid $60 for to play the training mode for 2 months. Let's see whether I'll still be sad if the November patch does not clear the obvious bugs (framedrops, gks, etc). I'd advice you not to put a penny on it.

I'm not returning the game but I'm struggling to see past the faults at the moment. Yet another ML win last night with a goal from a keeper rebound and another with a back-heeled flick at the near post. Scoring the same goals again and again is why I don't play Fifa. Although right now I'm tempted.

I think I'll wait for the patch before playing this PES any more. Otherwise the love is going to die completely.

Fifa is a good alternative, believe me. Not as good as PES obviously, but as an alternative, it works well.

I'm curious to see the sales numbers from Konami this year, excluding those who returned. It's so fun seeing the complains on Twitter at Adam.

Go and search for "PES framerate" or "PES lag" or "PES slowdown". It's almost daily.

If PES fans return our games in a couple of years we will only have FIFA
If PES fans keep buying such unfinished pieces of software, coming releases will be the same. Are you happy that a good football simulation concept is wasted this way? Sorry, if PES team (and Konami overall) is not capable of providing a 2013 product (you know what I mean) in year 2013, then better they leave this business. If as a programmer I do mediocre work for 7 years, I'm sure I would never find a programmer job again.

Yeah it´s true, after a while this game starts to show its flaws over and over again. I love the feel of it, but then start to see too many times the same issue.

Professional is harder because other levels are indeed broken. What about those goals from low crosses to the near post? AI almost always scores like that against me and its starting to get really boring. The full back takes years to respond and leaves the CPU at will to a low cross, then my CB´s stop and ask for an offside while the AI comes from the back, enters the box at ease and puts it in. I don´t even want to mention the GK. It looks very cheap and scripted.

IMO in the last posts people are too negative over the gameplay, but i maintain that this version should never have been sold.

Well going by this logic I wouldn't bother buying most products today as they're mostly unfinished code with day 1 patches and troublesome online.

And this isn't an excuse, it's just the reality of it.

There are only a bunch that I've enjoyed right out the box this gen.

I agree. I'm trying to see the good things in this game an enjoy them. However I've never played a game that can swing from the sublime to the ridiculous in such a short space of time. PES2014 really is one-of-a-kind in this regard.

For instance I played a game last night where I conceded four goals to keeping errors in quick succession. I just had to turn of the PC and walk away. The game before I saw terrific keeping with many world class saves.

Basically we've been sold a beta or tech-demo.

Come on Lami, there are games that ship with bugs and issues and then there are games that are essentially unfinished. You have to draw a line somewhere and PES2014 crosses that line.

I can't think of many games I have bought that have been unfinished to this extent.

It wouldn't be so much of an issue if we knew these problems would be patched in short order as many other developers do, but this is Konami. The game doesn't require a few fixes; we are waiting on the rest of the game to arrive in November.

As others have said, the best thing to do is not pre-order PES and only buy once we know what we are getting. I'm as guilty as everyone else of blindly pre-ordering this game, but I've been through enough of these release rollercoasters to know that this is an incredibly stupid thing to do.

I will be buying the game post-release next year. You can hold me to that.

Not even FIFA is working seamlessly out of the box. I have seen couple of livestream which their game just froze randomly in the middle of FUT match. Add to that the old laggy menu that plagued the CM since years ago.

Thinking back even back then in the 90's patching, or complete re-released were already happening. The original Half-Life still received continuous patching months after it was released, took several patches before Daikatana was playable, similar to Warcraft 3 (balancing issue), Pod (planet of death) was re-released in multiple format and dozens other.

People are making as if this is a new trend, and only happen with PES/WE. No, it's not. There is reason why developer include post-launch support as a part of development process.

Once a game ships, the maintenance phase for the video game begins.[149]

Games developed for video game consoles have had almost no maintenance period in the past. The shipped game would forever house as many bugs and features as when released. This was the norm for consoles since all consoles had identical or nearly identical hardware and incompatibility--the cause of many bugs--was a non-issue. In this case, maintenance would only occur in the case of a port, sequel, or enhanced remake that reuses a large portion of the engine and assets.

In recent times popularity of online console games has grown, and online capable video game consoles and online services such as Xbox Live for the Xbox have developed. Developers can maintain their software through downloadable patches. These changes would not have been possible in the past without the widespread availability of the Internet.

PC development is different. Game developers try to account for majority of configurations and hardware. However, the number of possible configurations of hardware and software inevitably leads to discovery of game-breaking circumstances that the programmers and testers didn't account for.

Programmers wait for a period to get as many bug reports as possible. Once the developer thinks they've obtained enough feedback, the programmers start working on a patch. The patch may take weeks or months to develop, but it's intended to fix most accounted bugs and problems with the game that were overlooked past code release, or in rare cases, fix unintended problems caused by previous patches. Occasionally a patch may include extra features or content or may even alter gameplay.

Yep, it's wiki. Nevertheless the statement was quoted from trusted source.

Has anybody noticed this bug where when a goal is scored and we have a cut scene shot of the goalkeeper (camera from the back of his goals) celebrating and we can see in the very same goal the opposite goalkeeper who just conceived the goal?!?n

There's a difference between a post-release "maintenance phase" and what I call "finishing the game".

It depends. Not many game and software are finished out of the box, just like few examples that i mentioned before.

To me PES 2014 doesn't have such major game-breaker bug which render it totally unplayable.

Whether it is worthy 40 bucks or not is on personal level, it's subjective.

Most of the goals I'm seeings videos of, I can't help but notice how tragic the defender's reactions are... The complete lack of awareness of danger as well as their inability to tackle properly sometimes.

Sorry to steal your vid Jimmy, but look here:

YouTube - Jansen R3 Turn and Winning Goal

What the fuck is that defender doing who got turned? The guy chasing should be busting a gut to put pressure on the attacker, instead he comes to a sudden halt and backs off, then the keeper only dives once the ball is already past him.

These goals would be infuriating to concede and unsatisfactory to score for me... Some sort of defender/keeper bullshit seems to be responsible for the majority of the goals I see in PES 2014.

Your weak old man.
The Konami force is strong with this one.
