PES 2014 Discussion Thread

Yeah, it seems platform dependent. Weird stuff, but well, not surprised anymore.

PS3 is probably 2nd to problems posted, but mostly due to stuttering/slowdowns in certain areas/replays. Xbox 360 is without most problems and probably so far, most enjoyable PES 2014 games are on X360.

Sorry, if you found my previous post offensive in any way. Didn't mean it.

Guys, when you say to set 720p what you mean exactly?
My ps3 switch auto to 720p when Pes is loading. What I should do? Set ps3 to 720p by default from display settings panel?

Sorry, I am on verge of breaking DVD now

YouTube - Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 - Just broken GK, yes, again.

This is just bullshit. I can do compilations about keeper howlers ALL day long. Yes, it does mean those fucking howlers happen in 1 game out of 2 :/.

This is beyond a joke. It's game breaker. Whatever klashman and others say, GOALKEEPERS are BROKEN and massive GAME BREAKER not only for me. Believe me, people online will MOAN much more, especially as it can happen anytime in game, be it 1st 5 mins or last 5. Losing a game because of above is just a joke.

You must be in a very unlucky season. That happens, yes. It might even be considered realistic by a few members here. But to me happens about 1 in 5 or 6 matches. 1 in 2 matches is kinda strange indeed.

Actually I´m getting convinced that sometimes the match loads in a wrong way. That bug from the corners happened to me a few times. But most of matches I play them totally bug free.

Considering we play just 10-15min games, you should see those blunders like once a 30 games. A gk blunder once 5-6 games still too big.
Biggest crap with gk's for me are when they parry shot into own net, when the ball goes straight line at them. Also they are very bad at covering shots in near corner, as if its on purpose while cpu team most of the time sends crosses and through balls for a near post.

This, lackluster shooting and illogical defenders awareness (when some of defenders chase down attackers and others stay on higher "line") killing fun of the game for me.

Yes, untick 1080p & 1080i and just select 720p in the display settings. Also try installing the game on HDD but i've had no problems with stuttering, flickering tbh - only a slight delay when a shot went wide of the goal but this stopped after installation. To me, once you get used to the controls etc - the games feels a touch faster and flows better.

Simply put, the right stick represents the weight of the player you're controlling, while the left stick represents their actual movement through space.

So if you run around with the left stick and don't touch the right, the player will just stay upright - but when you start adding movement on the right stick you get the upper body feints and so on, with the weight shifting in the direction you press on the right stick, and the eventual movement coming from the left stick. That's the obvious, basic stuff, but it goes a lot further than that.

Defending: You can use the right stick to lean in on another player when defending, e.g. muscling them off the ball, or leaning on a winger near the touchline to force him to run the ball out of play. You can use it when there's two of you in a foot race - if you think the other guy will outpace you, you can lean right into him as you go and force him away from the path of the ball (while holding square, so another defender will come in and clear up). You can use it to tackle when a foot-in tackle is not possible, by jabbing it quickly in the direction of the ball carrier, so your defender makes a sudden lurch into his path and often knocks the ball away (can concede a foul this way, though). You can use it in mid-air to stop a striker getting up for a header, e.g. if you're controlling a smaller defender stuck against a 6-foot target man as a cross comes in, you can't outjump them but you can sometimes unbalance them as they try to head it. When you're controlling a big defender - or a big centre forward or a midfield beast - the right stick is how you throw your weight around. That's what I mean by "the ugly stuff". It's the key to mastering the new physicality in PES2014.

Dribbling: Obviously the right stick is the trick stick, used in combination with the left (and R2) to pull off all the fancy stunts, but there's more to it than that. You can do all kinds of crazy shit with it - try it out on the training pitch. One of my favourite things is when you're running full pelt with a defender shoulder-to-shoulder: let go of the left stick and push the right stick in the opposite direction, and he'll do a sudden stop and turn, hopefully leaving the defender sprinting off into the middle of nowhere.

General control: You can use the right stick to trap the ball as it comes down, or to bamboozle defenders generally. When the ball is dropping towards you, flick the stick to trap it in different directions. Pushing the right stick in when you're in control of the ball flicks it up in the air, and you can also use this push-in technique (in conjunction with moving the left stick) when the ball is coming down to juggle it past defenders in a rather flashy way. Even on the ground: when you receive a pass, you can give the right stick a quick push in as you turn, to flip the ball around your marker as you sprint away.

There's more I haven't even thought of, as well - it's all very intuitive. It's the key to taking this game to the next level, as R2 was for the last few games.

Got the Xbox 360 version coming this week after trying it on PC and I am sorely lacking in PES knowledge, this post will help a lot, so thank you!

Any other tips appreciated all, not been on PES since PES5....

The problem is, it's not season. It's Competition/Exhibition games.

If Heart/Form has such huge impact on how GK perform then it's not right.

Sure, GKs aren't superhumans and are prone to blunders, but the amount you see in PES 2014 is just beyond joke.

Second thing to ask yourself, why wasn't Joe Hart dropped yet from England/Man City squad? Despite his sub standard performances recently?

Because in real life, you have HOPE, CONFIDENCE and BOUNCE BACK ability. Plus no real substitute for Joe Hart ;).

Same goes for Neuer in Bayern, Leno in Leverkusen, De Gea in Man Utd...

How is it realized in PES? I don't really know the answer.

If I saw blunders and real howlers in one game on 30 I would be happy. But 1 in 2 or 5 is OTT.

Top player on WE is brilliant. I'm playing unpatched version without data packs or option files. 1-bar passing on 0 game speed on default camera. Opponent AI torments me. Haven't seen a unresponsive defender/goalie bug in about 10-15 games. The game is pure joy to play. I'm guessing I won't be sleeping tonight.

You're playing the Asian version.

The Japanese WE retail is out 14th of November. In case you didn't know.

Probably that's why the PES patch is out November too.

Seems like the WE J will be out complete.

EDIT: Seeing the Japanese national team on the cover, I wonder if WE J will get an extra international challenge mode for the Blue Samurai.

Well I knew very well that I bought the Asian version and that's what I'm playing. The Japanese version is always the last to be released. Won't hesitate to buy the Jap version too. After all, this is my flagship game on my PS3.

Something I forgot to mention in that post about the right stick: you can also use it to stop the ball going out of play, if you're sprinting after it and it's about to go out for a throw-in or a corner - "hook" it in with the right stick and your player lunges out to get it. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't (and he looks a clown).

ANyone know of a xbox 360 option file for pes 2014 yet?

I want to play an EPL season but not with Man Blue and with those god awful kits!

Thanks

I installed the game as first thing. Recently I set the ps3 to 720p following what has been said here around. Anyway I still have the stutter when a shot goes wide of the goal, sometimes. I can live with that.
I did not see improvements from setting 720p tbh.

Had a bit of an old-fashioned PES cheatfest last night, in the second leg of the Coppa Italia quarter finals - computer moving my defenders out of the way etc. Bit disheartening, but it was the first time I've felt this on PES 2014 so it may just have been my imagination.

One good thing from that game, though: the computer scored with a shot from outside the box. First time I've ever seen them attempt one - I was getting worried it wasn't going to happen.

Jansen with a Heart on fire, bags 2 goals to beat Internacional 2-1.

R3 does it again ;)

Very subtle, but devastatingly effect. Push Stick in as the ball is received and push opposite direction with Left Stick/Pad for a tight controlled turn. Very subtle, but that's all it takes in football. Less is more.

This game has the fucking lot, niggles aside, freedom is amazing.

It's a great goal, but I have a feeling keepers will be altered with the next patch to be a touch more forgiving with long range shots. I've never seen one from outside the box that hasn't gone in off the underside of the bar. Everything does need to be right when hitting the ball, but a huge number of long range shots in real life go in without needing to hit the underside of the bar first.

I managed to do it with a Balotelli from the edge of the box, but that's about it. Keepers need to be made stronger with shots inside the box and a tiny, tiny bit more forgiving from outside. If they do choose to alter keepers, I hope that long shots are still really hard to pull off. They've generally always got the balance just right in previous versions so I'm hoping a few tweaks can fix it.

On another note one thing I always did with my keeper in previous games was to use triangle (Y) to bring him out for a few yards when saving a shot, to cut down the angle. I think the PES2014 doesn't like this at all, you end to bring the keeper out all the way to someone's feet, or just leave him completely alone. Triangle seems to confuse him and sometimes he doesn't dive when he should, or reacts later than he should. I've tried just leaving it and keepers have been quite a bit better.

Random question Jimmy bit have you taken Pere's advice with 30 minute games, or even 20 minutes? It's another game entirely. I'd recommend you give it a go because I think you'd love it.

Yeah 30 mins is a great game, but too long for me. 15 mins has always felt very balanced, and that's my personal preferred duration of choice.

Jeez, I'm up at 7am, and I'm stuck on the bloody thing. It's worse than Crack.

Loved the way the defender ran past you and then the second defender stood there as you waltzed past before slipping in the ball past an unresponsive goalkeeper. Thats freedom alright.

Yeah theres lots to sort on this. Itsstill not there for me. Been playing more on xbox but theres some annoyances. Keepers are a sticking point. Good at times, horrendus at other times. They need a bit more variation in saving animations, as i dontthink theres enough.

Also the cpu lobbed my very stationary goalkeep with a 6 ft chip my old fella could have caught. Looked totally off.

Also spent all saturday downloading data pack whilst i went to watch the reds beat palace, came back and it was done, tred to install and i got an error and the whole thing needed downloading again. What the hell is that about konami?

My love for this game has increased tenfold this weekend as I've finally become proficient at clicking L1+R3 and manually controlling the keeper to great effect during gameplay. Such a good feature:))

Hate to say this but everything in this video looks completely unrealistic and out of place, from the turn - it's against the laws of physics to flick the ball up with this kind of turn with the insole - to the way the defender reacted incredibly stupid and instead of just making the challenge to get the ball away, he jumped all over Jadson (not Jansen btw), completely forgetting about the ball. I'm not even gonna mention the keeper's "reaction" to the shot...

I scored one with Schweinsteiger from further out that went straight in. Below:

I have to agree with this. Is not a great example of football realism. What level was this? I have not had this sort of things going on with superstar...

Disagree with the turn, he's opened his body, used momentum and his heel to cushion the trap. Actually looks not as good in slow-motion. It's a deft, pre-postured swivel. The keeper should done better but he did delay fake it. Plus the keeper has saved everything tonight.

The point was that option of a tight turn with your back covered.

How can i walk manually when i make a pass with L1+ :triangle: normally my player walks some given route and i cant change it, which leads that i use the ball everytime
