What on earth has happened to the player faces!

For e.g. I am looking at the spurs team and only a couple of the players resemble their real life counterparts. I don't get it, even the players which looked good in PES 13 now have one of those generic faces.

A bit OT but I'm desperate here, my PSN code provider is sold out of UK Codes, You guys know of a good site which sends you pre-paid codes via email? (can't use pcgamesupply or gamepointsnow).

Try Play-Asia.Com. Of course, most reliable website and instant digital download and they always have stock. I got my £70 worth of codes only yesterday.

Not sure what you mean by this Dan, unless of course you're saying you preferred that one ? :CONFUSE:

I like the options we now have with both R3 and R2 for first-tocuhes, I think it's better and more varied than just R2.

L1, if pressed when dribbling at speed, when timed correctly, cuts inside at an angle. It's like a body-swerve or quick drop of the shoulder at speed.

Defensive AI is so poor in this game. It doesn't matter if there is 1 attacker with the ball on 4 defenders in a line because there is absolutely no covering and the defenders are slow to react to any runs or movement. as soon as you go to take on one of the 4 defenders it's like being 1on1 because the other 3 will stay in their line and not cover leaving you through on goal if you beat the defender

Bought the game for PS3 yesterday.
Mixed emotions for me really.

I love the new animations. Passing, shooting it all feels good.
Love the fact that shots do not feel so floaty.
Scored a couple of beauties already.
Graphics are fine with me.

Things I have problems with

Cursor changing, it feels very random, have a hard time getting the right player under control.

The physics system is also a mixed bag. On one hand there are some great tackles, collisions.
On the other hand there is something wrong. Often when trying to get past a player my attacker gets stuck. His upper body is passed the defender but somehow his legs and waist get stuck.
It’s looks very awkward and it’s clearly a foul however the ref does not whistle.

There are too many moments where the defender will just run into you and due to the physics system you lose the ball. These are mostly fouls which are not given by the ref.
Too bad really cause the system has potential, it just needs a lot of fine tuning.

Dribbling : feels very very sluggish like moving a tank as somebody mentioned before.

Skill stick. I never liked this. It’s one of the reasons I never liked fifa.
A few moves are nice of course but I think Konami are overdoing it.

So, what can I say. I see improvements but have a hard time getting into this game.
I’m 44 with 2 kids which means my gaming timing is much more limited than in the past.
I guess I want a more arcady game. Don’t have time to learn the game inside and out anymore.
Do understand the road Konami are taking though, maybe it’s just not for me.

Not bashing the game or anything, just my 2 cents.

Ah okay thanks for that, do you still use L1 for any dribbling purposes other than this? Some people have said they did. More hidden Konami controls!

Finally picked up my copy on the way to work this morning. Can't wait to do a league mode with Napoli, gonna use that ace cammo kit they have, assuming it's in the game.

I use L1 and R2, Sprint and Sprint Tap. Between those options, I can literally do anything. Then add The Right Stick and Left Stick for the contextual tricks.

The reason I say contextual is that the basic tricks are relevant to the direction you push the Right Stick initially. If you push it in the opposite way to the direction you're moving, then push the Left Stick in the direction you're running, it will peform a drag-back/knock forward skill.

Pushing the Right Stick up then the Left Stick in the direction you're moving performs a kind of directional feint, Elastico, whatever, the same applies to down on the Right Stick.

Forward of the Right Stick and then Forward on the Left Stick can perform a 360 Turn, or whatever is player specific.

I know it's prob been covered but just can't get a header on goal from a cross or corner

Does anyone have an answer to this? It's driving me mad

PES Productions must put this quote in their offices, because usually their menus were usable, but this year they failed in both Interface Design and User Experience.

I just can't believe that, for the first time ever, it's faster to make a quick substitution in FIFA. Seriously, PES 2014 UX is that slow.

UI animations run at 30FPS, this didn't happen in previous PES, so it adds a lot to the sluggish feeling.

Imagine you are playing a real match. When the ball is in the air, coming towards you, a split second before you head it, you imagine the direction you want it to go, right?
Well just apply the same principle with the joystick, pressing the pass or shoot button and the direction button just before the ball reaches you.
It is the only way I can explain it - so I hope it helps :)

Hi there

i am a pes fan since over 10 years but this year i have a teriible problem with the game maybe you guys can help me.

i really want to love the game, but i have a feeling that:

with every 1-2 high through ball i can have success with the cpu defence (probably the bug everyone is talking about?) is there a way to do something against it? playing on top player

Yeah it's pretty bad, but if it helps, try using the D-pad to navigate the gameplan instead of the L stick.

Talking about controls: Sometimes the CPU shields the ball by putting his body between you and the ball. Than he does nothing, and I find it very difficult to win the ball that way. Especially annoying if you are behind and the time is running out. What is the best way to counter this?

I've not seen a shred of evidence that L1 dribbling enables you to do anything you couldn't otherwise do just by using the left stick. There's no difference in speed, animation-set or movement. Seems like another one of those psychosomatic PES controls, where people press a button and go into a different mode in their head, therefore perceiving slightly different outcomes.

Yeah, L1 does not do anything when dribbling. One evo-webber had changed his button config though to where R2 was on L1. Made for interesting misscommunication. :)
On default button mapping, L1 does nothing. Easy to check, just turn in a circle in the training ground, and vary holding and not holding L1. There is no difference in proximity to the ball, frequency of ball touches, or otherwise.

I disagree. Go into dribbling training and use sprint button and then l1 it cuts in at a tight angle. Jimmy is right

WHEN WILL THE DIGITAL DOWNLOAD OF PES 2014 BE AVAILABLE ON THE UK PSN STORE?

The tight-turn is definitely correct, I told me brother to try it last night, and it was him that scored that Turan goal against me. And he did that with L1. 100%. The sharp directional change is clearly there to see in that video.

As for the close-control side, I'm not so sure to be honest. I'm using it alongside other buttons and getting the results I want. But that isn't to say, as Rom mentioned, it's in my head.

I know Zee also feels like it has relevance, but maybe that's us just moving away from the old-skool R2 way.

Nudge your Right Stick towards him to nudge him, barge him off the ball. It even works as a standing type tackle, Han.

The wait is killing. Have had a tough week at home with some family situations. Was really hoping that PES 2014 will be available to lift my spirits. Unable to get the game here in India and the digital download on UK PSN store is also not up yet. Hate waiting for PES. In fact, in all my years of owning game consoles, the only game I ever wait for and long for is Pro Evo. And that's the one that's always elusive too. Hope they put the game on UK PSN as soon as possible. Can't wait anymore.

Same here really. I'm waiting for the PSN version too. Not sure what time the store updates normally but I have a feeling it will be soon.

Count me in that group, "patiently" waiting! I still don't have my code from Play-Asia though, they seem to be processing it. Then the game will no doubt take a little while to download. I probably won't be playing it until late today.

I'm going to half miss going between shops to see if it's out though.
