The problem with D-Pad, at least in current PES games, is that favours Speed Merchant abusers. It's so much easier to pull those abrupt turns with only 8 directions.

for me the biggest problem is lack of movement depth. since i had this thought in mind all the football games feel so outdated.

think about how you currently dribble in football games, because you can only move a set distance (jog>sprint, that is it) the defender knows at what distance he can or cannot tackle you. this is why in games the 'right' way to dribble to do ridiculous 90degree turns or turn backwards altogether and shimmy and shimmy until you lose your marker.

with depth of movement you could gently push the analogue stick forward and actually square off face-to-face with the defender and push him backwards. this is not something you can currently do and until it is implemented we'll keep seeing this silly "shimmy everywhere until your oppenent presses the wrong button" technique of dribbling

Yeah. I don't agree with this all for one and one for all setting. Must have options just make sure there are option online as well. Nothing worse than playing unassisted with Getafe and coming up against Barcelona on 4 bars, PES talent is rendered null amd void.

Imho it would be best to just remove the digital-pad-movement altogether and concentrate on a perfected analogue-stick-movement. I still can't believe that Konami didn't use the opportunity and got it over with when they released PES 2011.

They wanted to but then they gave in to the pressure of the public outcry. They should have sticked to their guns.

Again with PES 2014 and the new engine, Konami would have another great opportunity to remove d-pad-movement-control and use it solely for tactic-on-the-fly-input.

But knowing Konami and their lack of resolve it won't happen.

It's really too bad, cause the existence of d-pad-movement also disturbs the potential of the analogue-stick-control, cause they have to make compromises to keep both balanced.

So given the reality, I would suggest to clearly separate d-pad-control-users from analog-control-users in the online-arena. It should be possible to make filters, that allow d-pad-players to play only against d-pad-players... and to prevent changing control once inside the match.

it hasnt happened. they have kept d-pad movement for pes 2014

any thing to back this up? i would be very interested to read about this, because i dont think have ever encountered a game which took use an analogue d-pad, and i'd be very curious to see how well it would work in practice (which i highly doubt it would for a football game)

Pretty much, own PS2 and original Silent Hill, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid series on it.

Those games definitely take advantage of d-pad being analog (responding to 255 levels of pressure).

There is also Wikipedia (though I don't trust it much these days).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-pad

Yes, football games do not take advantage of this. Sadly, programmers don't want to put effort.

Some more:

I was messing around with the SDL compile of mame under blue dog linux and while attempting to assign the d-pad to the directional controls I noticed that it seemed to be recording how hard I pressed down on the d-pad.

If you just tap the d-pad it took it as a button, but if you held it down harder then it would record it as an axis input.

Interesting.....

I just don't remember reading any mention of it. Actually maybe I did and just didn't think anything of it at the time. I know the normal buttons are supposed to be pressure sensitive.

Yeah and the PS2 controller's D-Pads are the same. You lightly press it to sneak in Metal Gear Solid 2 and press hard to run.

I confirm. PS2 had a pressure sensitive D-Pad (see Gran Turismo for example)

the PS3 d-pad is almost like an analogue stick really.

See what I meant when I said devs are lazy and don't know what they are programming for .

the D-pad is sensitive, it's not like you're playing on an NES controller.
i find it really hard to play PES on analog stick since i feel it is very loose.. i mean, it works perfect for other games, but related to PES i really like feeling a tighter control on the player, unlike Red Dead Redemption, Gran Turismo, God of War etc..

whatever rocks your boat i guess.. i'm just happy they let you choose between the 2 options, ad in PES2013 you can even use both of them at the same time. the more options available, the better imo.

Not really bothered with the demo this year. Maybe I will just skip it. Oh who am I kidding I will be all over it the minute it's out.

Just make it 10 minutes, or foul language will be uttered.

Good, could be worse. Counting on 21th. PC on steam :) PC can be released earlier it doesnt need to be approved.

People still play video games on consoles ?

I don't believe that. Why, when you can get a PC Rig.

Ok, so the game is less than 2 months away and we have seen very little to nothing since E3 at all.

No different weather examples, very few stadiums, no graphics and extras such as undershirts, tape, gloves tight kits, drama ingame cutscenes, other stadiums. If this is a case of Konami being unsure how many teams they have licensed or not then fine :) thing is there was reports of a big announcement which never happened. :CONFUSE:

last week we saw a few new images which looked a bit average in terms of graphics.

Interestingly something I noticed in PES 20113 there where lots of new faces such as Falcao, Giroud, Welbeck, Oxlade-Chamberlin, Pirlo etc.. which looked as if they where PES 2014 ready, they where made to fit PES 2014 but where scaled down to meet PES 2013 very limited graphics system.

PES has a gigantic library of player faces, it would be nice to see many of these carried over to 2014, many of them come from Konami's policy to create a face for EVERY single player currently playing for a licences national team, so you will see tons of Swedish, Northern Ireland and the republic, Scotland,, Czech republic, Greece players having faces.

Gamescom is exactly two weeks away and people will expect at least 85/90% finished game on show in a demo format.

Both PC and console users have good reasons to using their respective devices. Let's not start a PC vs consoles debate again.

BTW, sometimes it's difficult to trust Konami with their bizarre PR statements. Remember the first DLC for PES 2013? They said new stadiums would be included in the second one. Where are they?

Yeah they still do that(Every Licensed team has "Real" faces)....... you can even see Mattia De Sciglio in a screeshot! :APPLAUD:
PES has almost all Top-class players with faces.. so... won't be mad if they don't include that much of new faces... for me the biggest names that STILL don't have faces is.. Shaqiri, Verratti, Nastasic, Ramirez, De Bruyne, Alex Sandro, Lucas and maybe Illaramendi.... and I think that theres high probabilities of them making into the game!!
And sorry for this unuseful post :FAIL:
