Guy I dnt know where u got the aspect of them not changing the script. By the sound of things they have same two guy for english commentry. With new scripts. Lets see how it works out, u never know what they got planned out. If u watch ITV u will know that Jim Beglin is actually much much better at commentating than in pes. Sometimes I forget pes even uses him. So lets see how it goes with the rework they r claiming wether its still annoying or likeable. Personally I wanted a whole new team so they dnt remind me the bad bits of old pes and this 2014 is a new start.

If I was developing a football game, I wouldn't waste time on commentary at all. I'd redirect all that effort into making the crowd audio as exciting, variable and responsive as possible. Personally, I'd much rather have a great stadium atmosphere and no commentary.

pes had many things to improve, i think most of the guys here are asking to mutch in such short amount of time, they basicly implement everything we ask for, there is always room for improvement but i´m very happy with the changes they introduce if they come correct and bug free.

True dat.

That and licenses. I think licenses are a waste of money, I would rather have a deep editor. And besides that, on the PC (the best platform ever) we have modding/patches !

Especially since you are often in place of the manager, who can't hear the commentators anyway.

I agree. But Konami dont know to make good atmosphere. Chants are like fans singing from barrel, its horrible.

That's not 3 years of every single member of staff slaving away over it though. The first year will have been a handful of people looking at the Fox Engine, maybe creating a tech demo of one player and the goalkeeper. Year 2 it would have ramped up, but still attention would very much have been divided.

What we're seeing now is what it takes 3 years of varying levels of staff input to accomplish. Even now, Konami are divided between this and the next-gen version.

It doesn't matter. Bottom line is the trite, terse and emotionless commentary is long overdue for significant improvements and changes.

I totally disagree. If you have no control over the arms of your player then how can you be penalized in any way whatsoever. What next cramp!

then turn it off if you dont like it..i like how FIFA has done it and have never felt cheated..and why would cramp not be in the game if a player gets low stamina, other injuries are in the game

Actually yeah FIFA does do handball really well. I like how you have the option to turn it off/on, and restrict it to outside the penalty area so you don't get shafted by random handballs. Gives you the best of both worlds. Don't see why PES can't just copy that system over and add user options.

Agreed. I use to be against handballs in footy games due to the non-control of player's arms etc... but FIFA has implemented it well, like you said, and I've never felt cheated.

Nope. Bottom line is that the gameplay, and aspects that directly affect it, should always take precedence over secondary aspects like commentary.

Of course gameplay comes first in video games. When has it never. Are you on the Konami payroll:LOL: Trouble with Konami is they've been using that line I bolded for far too long now to cover up their failings in recent years and they still can't get the gameplay right. Time for a paradigm shift.

And for those not using the PC, I'd make the editing and sharing as easy and accessible as possible. Like inside a certain option file, you'd choose what you'd wanna import. If you're interested and socks and stadiums only, or shirts, shorts and balls.
Importing option files should be made much much more logical, there are certain elements I'd take from x and others from y.

Couldn't agree more, especially when one considers how historically awful the announcing in PES is. Here we are moving into the PS4 era, yet the English commentating feels like it's left over from their PS1 game. That's not just bad, that's incompetent.

Ah, the Konami payroll line. The PES discussion equivalent of tipping your king on its side. *Sigh* Not sure EA would have been best pleased if it was, having flown me out to Vancouver and invited me to Guildford HQ to play early versions of past instalments.[/copy&paste from most other times I give PES the benefit of the doubt]

You used the term 'bottom line' and then said something that was nowhere near bottom line - I merely corrected you. Yes the commentary is shit, but so is the gameplay, in ways the fanbase's last men standing do and don't accept. I'm sure if Konami had got the gameplay up to snuff over the past 5 years the commentary would be sorted by now. But that's demonstrably not the case.

I used the term "bottom line" in regards to Konami's lack of attention to commentary, not the overall game. Your original gameplay point was obvious to me. No reason why over all these years Konami could not have improved the gameplay and the ambiance, to include commentary and the crowd. Even incremental improvements to the commentary would have been pleasing. It's a symbiotic relationship for me when it comes to football and the atmosphere. Sound is incredibly important for immersion. Try watching a streamed football game on ESPN3 where there's no commentary. Just not the same. Anyway, it's not a gamebreaker but my original point stands--I'm disappointed. Just my opinion:))

I know it's not a solution when a videogame sports, I've had it enough with the commentary, I switch to a language I don't understand at all.
Psychologically it really makes a difference.

On the 4th and 5th of July, KONAMI welcomed members of the PES community and journalists for a presentation of PES 2014. Manorito Hosoda, Marketing Producer of PES, was present and answered some our fans’ questions.
We have compiled them to give you all the latest updates on PES 2014:

  • The weather will affect the game and make the kits dirty
  • Goalkeepers animations have changed considerably
  • Players will be able to change teams and coach a national team in Master League mode
  • League mode for multiplayer online will be available on PES 2014
  • There will be more emblem slots on Edit Mode
  • Third kits will be available in the game or as DLC (no plan for paid DLC)
  • There won’t be offline community mode but additional features on myPES will cover that
  • PES 2014 will be available on Steam and other online services on the release date
  • PES 2014 will have new stat system, using a combined stat page to equate values. Goalkeepers will have their own stats as well
  • New system to prevent cheaters

Online league mode. Drewl.

I hope you can have multiple players on one team that would be great.

Totally agree. Or turn it off and do your own commentary. I've been doing that since PSone days.
No matter how good they make it, it will become repetitive after a while anyway.

I switch to Spanish, cause even if I'm doing shit the sheer optimism in their voices makes it seem like I'm doing great!

My scrotum was already bulging in this heat, but the news about switching teams in Master League is causing some aggressive expansion.

Besides which - do we know whether this definitely means hiring/firing is in? 'You can change teams' could mean anything.

Thank God for chant packs then. The chant packs are so good once installed, it can be hard to tell the game from a real match. Konami's default chants that I've heard, are rubbish. It just sounds like they've just dragged a load of Japanese people into a studio and have them do the chants without knowing the proper rhythm or anything!

Especially since you are often in place of the manager, who can't hear the commentators anyway.

Good point. I might change the commentary to a different language just for a laugh. :)

Amen to that! Stuff the licences; instead give us loads of empty league slots that can be implemented into the ML and allow the community to fill them!
