PES 2013 Discussion Thread

In my third ML season and with all COM teams pimped up to a point where every player on their team can basically outdribble, outrun, outpass or outmuscle every player on my team (regardless of whether they are unheard of and play for a shit bottom third team with 5 goals by mid season or whether they are Barca, PSG or ManU or whether they are agile attackers or stiff defenders ) I've switched to an old school kind of defending. That is, as soon as the COM gets the ball and does its 0-100 mph in a second, super duper clairvoyant dribbling attacking moves I have one of my players home in on them like rocket and slide tackle the shit out of them.

I know, that's not the way Konami wants me to play the game. They rather prefer that I use their fancy shmancy contain mechanism and have their overpowered bastards of an AI skin me on every occasion so that they can demonstrate how much smarter a computer can be than a human. I prefer it my way, though, and let it rip, and the more virtual ankles I strain, the more COM players I send out on a stretcher, the happier I am. I only wish I could punch the ref every time he calls one of my standing tackles and makes me watch a boring replay...

Seriously: They've made many good improvements on the AI of your own team (albeit there is still enough stuff to work on) but the COM AI is just incredibly robotic and annoying. I want an opponent that commits the occasional stray pass. That occassionally over or underhits a lobbed ball. That is occasionally out of position, or reacts slower to a lose ball. That displays the occasional misunderstanding in their passing. That occasionally stumbles or gets disoriented without my interference. That dribbles and moves according to their stats and to their stats only. That occasionally misses a header. That tries out different things and FAILS in many of them. An opponent that feels humane –like *me* – and not like an overachieving a**hole that always has the right answers at the right time.

Lol, top post.

It's kind of what I do to break the game up with the slide tackling, made many gorgeous crunching ones.

I've had to adjust my attacking/defensive setting to defensive to 'contain' the CPU, it's the only way the game has some sort of normality.

Professional is the best way to play Pes 2013 against CPU. There is the right amount of challenge without blatant script or cheat by AI.

Try using the unassisted cursor setting too, to be in more control of your players especially when attacking. The semi and authomatic cursor switch settings are awful.

Do any of you guys know why the scripting/cheating exists? otherwise you would figure out how the CPU plays and you would win each match....

That's not excusable though. I shouldn't be losing a vital ML match because the game decides to make my defender run away from the ball in his own six yard box.

I also just restart a game if cheating has occured. These funny glitch goals I concede now and again certainly are on purpose - I used to think they were merely a case of the game fundamentally breaking down momentarily but I've come to notice that this NEVER happens in your favour.

In my current ML (which I've kinda lost motivation for now I've experienced how nothing seems to work properly) the only time I've dropped points have been when the game;

- made my keeper run out of his goal to the side, leaving the COM to put it into my net from 30 yards with my keeper by the touchline

- disabled my control of a defender just as a cross come in. It strikes his motionless body and deflects into the net

- several times the COM has scored from through balls I predicted, intercepted, only to find on the replay that the ball physically pass through the defender's body on its way to the striker, who ran through and scored.

- conceded several goals from free kicks where I select my keeper to reposition him across his goal as his starting position is way too far over (an issue for the third PES game running). Sometimes this works, other times you select the keeper and he can't move. He's rooted to the spot. The COM then puts the free kick right where you'd have moved him to.

These are the most common forms of cheating I've seen, always in vital matches which does ruin the whole atmosphere of ML. But my point is that why would Konami make a game that is so pitiful in its attempts to make the game difficult? Even with this engine there must be other less obvious ways and means of making the game more of a challenge? People shouldn't be being cheated out of games by the downright bizarre just so the game can claim to provide a challenge.

I havent touched this for a few weeks as I have been playing Far Cry 3 (great game, completed it now).

Been playing friendly games (Top Player, 10 mins) as I will be starting a new ML soon with Newcastle United.

I just adore this game so much - its beautiful. it isnt perfect by any means but I am having such a good time with it.

Had a stunning game against Arsenal earlier, completely dominated and won 2-0 in the end.

Havent had this much fun on a football game since the old PES days.

Completely hear everyone's anguishes and agree on the most part, but i feel some of the vitriol aimed at the game is a little over-exuberant.
I'm now in my 9th season in ML. Came up after 5 seasons in D2 as champions, first season in the prem, finished 7th, second season, reached the FA Cup quarter finals, Europa League last 32 and finished 5th in the prem, missing out on 4th spot on the last day of the season.
As my players get better, and develop further I feel more and more in control of them, see less scripting (yeas its still there and when it wants to be, can be a blatant fuck you from Konami), and my crowds are steadily growing, to now, a 3/4 full large stadium.
My Club ranking is rising steadily, and realistically and my player development and stats are generally realistic too.

Of course theres the boots and training items crap that give some players super boosts should you equip them, ie Minandinho, - I gave him some boots that increased shot power, its now 98, any shot from him tends to rip the net out.

PES13 has many many flaws and annoyances but its nowhere near as bad as a lot of people on various forums make out, and IMO is the best game play of any PES, including the old classics such as PES5 & PES6.

Its just the game as an overall package, and the modes that Konami really ballsed up.

After extensive, painful research and at great cost to his own sanity I think we can all agree that Supertalk has proved beyond reasonable doubt that PES 2013 Master League is indeed SHITE.

Not that most of us really needed persuading of that fact. It's been shite for YEARS.

People on here barely even bother to argue the case in favour of the game anymore. Even the most fervent fanboys are merely scraping what little enjoyment they can out of the game by only playing certain modes or playing co-op to even out the AI scripting.

Let's face it guys, the results are in and PES is well and truly down the crapper.

Still, there's always next year eh? You guys can buy it on release day or pre-order it all over again! Then come on here to tell us all how excited you all are about getting it and all this PES 2013 crap will be forgotten.

Dear oh dear.

No wonder Konami dont give a fuck what you think.

chill friend, its only a game. People take it all way too seriously.

Just play it and enjoy it. Or dont play it and take up golf. Or swimming. Or play other games.

This "don't pick a defender" tactic is apalling to me on so many levels.

The first level is Konami's idiotic AI making this even an option.
The second, that some use this online.

I understand the guys that play single player, but online..

What's fun about letting Konami play it for you?
Agreed mate the amount of auto defending on PES since 2012 is appalling. I had a few matches MLO over the last 2 years that guys have started a match and for whatever reason didnt play it and still the AI tackles so amazingly well that you struggle to score:SHOCK:

I dont know why Konami are so intent on dumbing the game down and making it easier for lesser skilled players. Look at the throughball success. You playu against a guy who doesnt play proper football but the AI does an auto tackle and he hits throughpass with 4 bar assist and boom goal. You can spend the game passing and running circles around him but the way the AI pulls players into position and helps the player is crazy

I used to think this as well - the CPU has to cheat because it can not compete with a human player. Then the other day I was playing ML and put it on coach mode just for shits and giggles. You know what, with the CPU controlling both teams, the opponent CPU played exactly the same as if I were controlling my team. It spammed the through ball and my defenders were their good old retarded selves. All their players dribbled past my defenders like they were the love child of Messi and Maradona. They had 9 corners and got a shot off on 8 of them (scoring 1). By contrast, the CPU controlling my team (a higher rated team, btw) couldn't hit the side of a barn with a through ball or shot from 5 yards away. Not once did one of my players successfully dribble past an opponent defender.

It was a real eye opener and now my question is, why does Konami do this? If clearly the human vs CPU isn't the issue, then what it?

LOL I'm still sane just about :P

I've enjoyed past iterations of ML, I can cope with it being simple and reasonably basic, what beggars belief is how everything has been altered this time around so that stuff that has always worked in the past now no longer does so. That and blatant issues that would take a minor fix and yet don't get corrected, like the international fixtures issue. Starting my third season in ML, there wasn't a single international fixture for the entire pre-season, literally weeks and weeks with nothing in the calendar then they place a day of international fixtures the very day before opening game of the season - meaning for the big kick off, half my payers were already shattered. After various versions of PES never addressing this, I really wonder exactly what they are thinking and whether anyone properly tests it.

I can cope with stuff even being stripped out of the game, but whatever they do decide to include in ML at the very least needs to function properly, which I don't think it does adequately.

I mean seriously, the issue with transfers is farcical. I have about five or six clubs a week making bids for Djallo, none of them doing as well as my club, but they bid because he's an 80-rated player valued at £1M. I can't change that valuation, no-one will agree to pay much more than that valuation, and the game automatically makes any player who you reject a bid for, hand in a transfer request. So each week teams make the same bid for him, I reject, he tells me over and over and over again how he wishes to be transfer listed. All because the game doesn't let the manager set his own valuations on his own players.

And what's the thing with the crowds not returning this year? It's stupid that I'm lifting the Portuguese title with Benfica and there are about 5,000 fans there. Why did they alter this from previous games? I like the fact that you start out with no fans, but getting promoted and then winning the top division should result in bigger crowds, even if they're not sold out every game.

I'm starting to rant again, but yes, ML this year is utter shite. I'll defend previous games because at least whatever was in the game at least seemed to work properly. Personally, I think the best ML I've played in recent years was in PES2011.

Master League has been dated for years.

But all the problems listed in previous posts make it much worse.
For me, its not be the same since they took player trade out. Great little feature that.

Last great ML was, for me, PES10

In a nutshell - they introduced new ML format in PES 2010, with real leagues (no more League A/B/C/D) and all of the new features that gradually disappeared in 2011/12/13 - meaningful scouts, individual training per player, possibility to train for new positions/skill cards, option to change players' A/D awareness for every match, etc. etc.

Basically, if they had "trade player" option in transfers, I'd call PES 2010 ML format nearly perfect. Not the gameplay, just the format of the package

I've heard other people say that too. Personally, I completely skipped PES2010 so I never tried it. Just our of interest, what were the differences in ML between PES2010 and 2013?

Pes11 was so bad I re bought 10 and played it through 11. Then did the same with pes 12.
Pes10 was by far the best this gen had had to offer.

Don't even get me started about pass assistance online.

It's a travesty that these sklilless mashers are even allowed to compete using pass support. This should be strictly an offline option or pass support players should have their own friendly matches online, thus forcing the ranking wannabes to play with no support online therefore they will need to think football as opposed to button mash pin perfect 45 meter through balls.

Pandering to the skilless IMO.

The lowest common denominator rules today in every field my friend.

Absolute bullshit. Guess why nobody is playing without pass support? It's because the game is not meant to be played that way. They only introduced this option to satisfy the vocal minority of ultra hardcore PES fetishists. Everyone else actually wants to play football instead of overhitting every pass.

Nope everyone wants to win. It has nothing to do with playing football. 90% of people Im playing online are 4 bar players who constantly spam throughballs I finish every match with 60+ possession. Im sorry but there is no football being played with these guys.

I play MLO with filer setings. The las patch acually fixed it. It doesn't have a knob filter though. I just don get why people would go through the fuss of setting up unassisted settings then try cutback after cutback LOL still beter than playing an assised player.

Assisted shooting is almos glich like with the R2 everything and I mean everything is on target. Konami just refuse to find a good balance between a hard as hell shooting mechanism and a pisstake.

I don't call 40 yard laser guided through balls with back to goal all game long "football".

The pass support setting doesn't make the AI better or worse. You are also able to pull off 40 yard laser guided through balls without pass support.
