PES 2013 Discussion Thread

I couldn't really say, I've never seen it without the blur effect, but IMO the game looks a lot nicer since the patch. I think sharpness is the only change they've made with the graphics but it makes such a difference, especially in night matches. They do seem to look better somehow.

They have done something that makes it look less washed out. The lighting was too strong at night games making the turf look way too light. I am not sure if it was something that actually happened or that the light pitch made the players turning looked more jerky, but game play seemed less smooth at night. Now with the patch the game play at night and day seem much closer to each other.

It's still not dark enough, but it's a lot better.

I started a world cup last night, which is something I would have never done before because of the random stadiums and almost constant night games.

That's probably a fallback solution to prevent people from screwing up their games.

Sorry, but this is not the case. The only place where files can be changed by the exe is the save game folder but there's absolutely nothing in there which could influence the performance or the graphics of the game.

I agree that the first point could be true, but saying that running an exe could only update two locations and couldn't change a setting anywhere in the game that changes the graphics has to be wrong.

I am a developer and have in the past worked on patches for our released software which after running an exe updates all kinds about the program. This change may have even just been changing a single value to reduce the brightness of lights in night games.

Besides, there is now a lot more than just me who is saying that night games look better after the patch

I didn't say that it is impossible in general but it is impossible in PES 2013. I've been playing KONAMI games for years and I know how the patching process works. Neither the /img folder nor the DLC folder was changed when installing 1.02. Stuff like this has always been hardcoded in the exe file and as you have seen in the pictures the game looks absolutely the same when using the 1.02 and the 1.00 exe files. Therefore it is safe to assume that absolutely nothing regarding night lightning was changed in patch 1.02 on PC.

There has to be a way to remove all data associated with PES 2013 on the consoles. Unless you can prove that the game looked worse before installing 1.02, I'm just going to claim that this is placebo.

Hello mates. I'm 38 years old, playing the PES series since 1997,and although i don't think i'm an expert especially in the next gen series because playing time form has been reduced due to the natural evolution of life, i guess i can understand some things about PES.
I didn' t like neither PES11 or PES 12. So i kept on playing PES 6 with some of these amazing patches you can find these days, like Shollym or Phoenix. Both games didn't manage to keep me interesting. A month after i bought PES 2013 (for pc) i had the same impression. I really love this series so when i have time, i take a look in forums like this one which by the way is very good and helpfull. I saw that a lot of people had the same problems with the game as i do.
I have to tell you. My impression of the game, changed when i tried to play on Regular difficulty just for a test. THIS IS PES, or this is my impression maybe. Don't know but i think it deserves a look.
For me is anything but easy. I see the CPU playing football, with backpasses, they score goals in a lot of different ways, generally thw whole picture brings in my mind the old good PES times. Maybe i get too old to follow thw higher difficulties. I really don't know.
But in Regular difficulty ( i use jenkeys tool, PES edit patch and version 1.00 of th game)i found again the beauty of this game. Unpredictability, good rythm, teams really playing as they should. And i'm telling you again, at least for me is not easy at all. I play this game for 16 years, so i guess i'm not the worst player in the world.

Thanks, I'll try out. Have you changed any gameplay sliders on Jenkey Tool, or you're playing with default settings?

No, i use his default settings. Basically i use his tool for the camera settings, because mxsonics tool at least for me cannot work with the pesedit patch.

I have been playing a Master League on Xbox on regular, 10 min games, 1.02 patch and have been loving it.

playing pes 2013 on top player and superstar is a nightmare
the scripting and cheating is so apparent it completely changes the way we must play the game

There is one difference with pes 2012: Professional difficulty is very enjoyable but too easy for me while in pes 2012 it was scripted as hell and unrealistically difficult

Yeah I've found this too. I played my ML in PES2012 on Professional and it did indeed still have some outrageous moments of scripting but did provide a decent challenge. On the other hand, Professional on PES2013 has been too easy to the point of me not having any motivation to play it. Move it up to Top Player or Superstar and it has indeed been an absolute nightmare.

I've also got issue with the options for game length. I find 10 minute games on the higher difficulties just isn't enough time, wheres 15 minute matches go on way too long. I used to feel like I'd been playing for about twenty minutes or something only to look at the in-game clock and see that only 10 minutes of the first half had been played.

Also, the scores in ML didn't seem right depending on the game time. On 10 minute games I used to find that my ML games were far too low scoring, most were 0-0, 1-0 etc, yet move it up to 15 minutes and every match seemed to finish 2-2, 3-2, even 5-4 once.

Of course this could be alleviated by Konami offering loads of game times as in FIFA, going up in one minute increments so I could choose to play a game that lasts 10, 11, or 12 minutes long etc. but that would be far too logical for someone at Konami to actually think up it seems!

Agree. Although, I have made some changes with Jenkey`s tool to get things the way I want them.

Of course that is not to say that the game in regular difficulty is without its negatives. Generally speaking no matter the level you play you still get the feeling that you are not in total control sometimes. What i say is that it gives you a better challenge, better rythm, with the CPU playing smooth football compared to the other levels. There are still these through passes, but they are definately less than in the other levels and there is also definately built up play by the CPU. You see more reasonable things on field. REVIEW could you please give me your tool settings to give them a try?

Sure bud. I'm using Jenkeys 2.00 tool. Haven't tried 2.01 yet.

Here are my settings. Let me know how they work out for you.

shot power: 118
Ball speed: 85
Ball weight: 85
AI Level: 1
Animation Speed: 105
Velocity: 90
GK Reaction: 135
Ball Curve: 200

Evening gents, not been on PES in a while so the latest patch has passed me back.

Any consensus on whether its made on the game more difficult? Wouldn't mind getting into a new ML, but i found it a bit of a doddle when i gave it ago earlier in the year.

Also which are the best patches? I just want proper kits and latest teams. Downloaded the PESEdit one and it aint even 1.02 compatible

There are no 1.02 compatible patches using kitserver at the moment.

Hmm, liked these settings. May persevere with them.

AND.....FK ME, I HAD A PENALTY..........

YouTube - PES 2013 - A penalty....at last!

It was saved, naturally, but I almost pulled out the balloons and party cake that the ref actually pointed to the spot.

I may start the game afresh and turn off player development too, it seems to nerf all the players directness by late first season, I can only imagine what the teams will be like by season 2 or 3.

Has anyone here noticed what the patch 1.02 has made to the goalkeepers? Everytime i go with a player slightly to one side of the field, the goalkeeper moves completely to the nearest post leaving the goal wide open ... I'm having a lot of results like 6-0, 5-1, 4-0, mostly due to this, almost every shot i make is goal, and i play in Superstar!
It is so annoying...how can i uninstall the 1.02?! i prefer playing with black boots, than score almost every time i make a shot on goal...very disappointing...

Absolutely love playing PES during those sessions where everything comes together, when your mind works as fast as your hands with the gamepad... Just played 5 or 6 games on manual where I was just reading the play so well and scoring some delightful goals against fully assisted opponents.

Stopping the ball with R2 then immediately bursting away past pressuring defenders is so effective and looks very realistic at times, especially to make some space for a cross or cut inside, scored a couple of peaches cutting inside onto Robben's left foot and bending it into the far corner :).

Really enjoying demo 2 with full manual on professional level, feels imho more free than the full version. Is there somewhere a time-extender that works with demo 2-PC?

I began to lose a bit of faith a week or so ago, games were getting samey, the game felt too arcade and the game speed just went through the roof, I really wasn't enjoying it although I was winning in the main. To put it short, I hated what the game had become.

So today I thought let's try 1.02 and really dig a little deeper and try and work out why the game started to play so badly in my eyes. Having spent the last few days PES6'ing it, I wanted the game to be more midfield orientated or at least have some element of build up with different pace changes, but in order to get what I'm after I had to ask myself some serious questions of how I approach the game, and was I contributing to the mess that the game had become. By mess, I mean Superstar mode just going ballistic with the CPU directness and just counter after counter after counter.

1) So the first thing I did was change to this 1.02 on PS3. I heard that the CPU play a bit more cautiously and there is more variety in its play.

2) The second thing I had to do was to ask myself why the games were panning out like they were? Why there was acres of space in places that I didn't want. Why players were doing things I didn't want them too off the ball, and how the CPU was exploiting me with such directness on the counter. Now, this may be right or wrong but this is just my experience.

Firstly, I had to totally erase what I had previously thought was right about player positioning on the tactics board. I had tried cramming players in the middle of the park, deep, and still I was getting countered. Player support wasn't too high, so what was the problem? My 4-5-1 was still making the game play stupidly.

So onto the Offence/Defence setting, and this is where I think the problem lies. On the default (which is off, which equals no preference) my players just seem to do what they want, players get ahead of the ball and this is where things go berserk. I switched this to defensive firstly. I then switched away from 4-5-1 and now play 4-1-2 with the 1-2 being deep on the tactics board with a lone striker and two wide supporting wingers. The result therefore looks like midfield space, but the player positioning pans out much different due to this defensive setting being made.

It's this midfield three though that are now staying where they should when I switched to defensive. Instead of Lucas, Gerrard and whoever, always getting in front of play and leaving the midfield practically vacant, now my team had shape.

Also, I wasn't fooled by the 'defensive' nature of a defensive strategy. This is another thing where KONAMI just need to be clear about what stuff does. Players can still make runs with player support set accordingly, but now the defensive mentality just kind of kept players in their positions.

So, with 1.02, and then a change of mentality to either defensive or super defensive, this went a long way in stopping the silly CPU counters. But these two things in collusion with number 3, has just really opened the game up for me to another level.

3) R2 (And yes I know, I'm late to the party) Whilst I have garnered success on Superstar it has come at a cost, and that is playing a way that I did not want to play. I'm a PES player through and through, but I have always neglected the intricacies with regards to controls in favour of the pass, long pass and shoot approach. If I could master these, I could master anything.

But R2 this year....well....it's sublime. I persisted through three hammerings. Atletico schooled me 4-1 in the Europa, then Arsenal beat me 3-0. I then lost a tight game to QPR. I was adamant though that I was having some of this R2 stuff. By game four, things started to click. And this is another major point I want to raise.

It seems that half the problem, without using R2 in the past, has been down to the way I played. I analysed a couple of matches, and my general play was highly team-work orientated, highly inter-changeable with a multitude of players involved in the move and getting forwards of the ball carrier. In short a Barcelona style game just waiting to be countered.

With R2, because it brings out the individual battle element, I now don't have to commit players forwards of the striker in possession (or wingers) all the time. It means that my game has changed from predominantly pass and move, to a mixture of pass and move and individual battles. This is extremely handy in the final third.

Where's R2 been all my life?

I'm expecting the backlash, but quite honestly, it is probably the single best mastered thing I've ever committed too. Suddenly Downing, Suarez for example are fixing their man in the sights and taking him on, nullifying Superstar levels lightening reflexes. Also, R2 slows the game down brilliantly, commits players and just creates so many more opportunities in terms of player runs and general positioning. In fact I almost use R2 with virtually every attack now, to change the landscape of the pitch.

The result of these three things, has been four awesome games today. Simply awesome. The last two, have been particularly great. The way I have everything now, the gamespeed is at last realistic, the CPU is playing some football, and I'm playing the type of football that I want to play and get enjoyment from.

Here's three goals that are all down to R2.

YouTube - PES 2013 R2 build up play

The first was a lovely ball from Suarez to Downing, who traps it and sells his man hook line and sinker after drawing him in with R2.

The second is two fold. Some lovely hold up play from Robinson brings into play Gerrard, who laterally moves his man creating time and space for Borini to finish.

The third may not seem like much, but just by using R2 it changes the picture of the game and moving laterally whilst others changed their paths, winning the ball back (probably because of Gerrard's tenancity) and then just a simple ball gives Suarez the chance to finish.

So with a few things tinkered about with I am now getting more satisfaction out of PES than at any time leading up to today. The last two games, a 2-0 away to Stoke and a 2-2 v Villa have been just outstanding in terms of realism and balance and with me looking to master R2 plus the tactical tweaks, I feel that it's on a far level playing field.

PS

The last thing I just want to say is that I'm back playing where I want to be, on my big tele on the PS3. I'm also using Long cam as I feel closer to the one on one battles and Superstar mode, 15 minute matches, -1 gamespeed.

Great post, I too have been getting more enjoyment out of the game of late.

I'm trying to get the CPU to play decent football against me using different style etc eg stoke long ball Liverpool possession.

It works to a point but I find you're defensive discovery interesting, I will try it out

Have you changed CPU to defensive also

Cheers
