PES 2013 Discussion Thread

since the latest patch my game has took a turn for the worse.
if i thought this version was bad before, then now its absolutely the pits.
the AI of team mates on my team is utter utter shocking. they constantly run away from loose balls, if i had a pound from konami, every time i spotted it, then i would have more money than donald friggin trump.

real life football this game definetly is not.
a quick half hour play is ok but long term its like a babys dirty nappy in a disposable bag. a bag of shite!!

Does anyone else think they have tweaked the lighting on night games?

They have also done something to make the game feel better at night. I cannot normally stand the game at night but with 1.02 on I have just played 6 games at night in different stadiums and enjoyed them.

Game play wise it's more like 1.00 than 1.01. Games are more open than 1.00 and forwards seem to have more pace. All players seem to be more skill full

There are no gameplay changes this time, chaps. They were subtle last time, but they were unmistakable (faster pace, etc) and had a very obvious effect when combined. This one's a rushed-out patch to fix a few issues. There's no discernible alteration to the gameplay at all.

I agree, I don't notice any gameplay changes. I do think the visuals on night games has been touched up, but nothing else. Certainly nothing in gameplay. But I do think, though it is hard to believe, that ML is even more ridiculous than before. I started a new one as M United and in my first game, at home, I lost to Vila 0-6, with Bent scoring 4 times (he hit the post once or twice also). I must have had 12 players on purple arrows. So here is the first game of my exciting new Master League and Konami, in their perverse wisdom, want to make sure I don't enjoy even a moment of it. Rooney, Van Persie, Nani, Valencia, De Gea, Giggs, Scholes, all purple arrows. First game. Exciting mode. Thank you Konami for trying your best to make me not enjoy your game. Idiots.

--good day!

smoother gameplay after patch?no no..is placebo effect!nothing change in gameplay and in online mode is the same 11,12,and now 13 pes(running on flanks over and ..)!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. The two things I noticed about ML were the fact that I keep winning boots after almost every game (as opposed to pre-patch where it was 3 or 4 times a season) and the ridiculous form arrows, which are worse than PES 2011. Every away game, I had 10 or 11 purple arrows in a 25-man squad. What is that supposed to simulate? Home advantage? That's not how it works!

Someone actually looked at Master League as it was pre-patch, thought "hmm, what needs changing here?" and decided "yes, they need to win boots *more often*, so the already-daft idea of earning stat boosts is totally devalued and all the teams can be full of 105-rated players by the end of the first season... oh, and there aren't enough totally random purple arrows making it completely impossible to establish any kind of continuity in team selection." That was it. That was what they changed.

Started up new Master League after downloading patch.

7 games in and i can't detect any obvious gameplay changes. However, it does appear to me that the form arrows have a greater effect during games now. More of my players seem to randomly be on purple arrows. God only knows why. My best defenders are constantly on purple arrows (5 of the 7 games). This has made me constantly fall victim to the CPE's constant spamming of the through ball which i always seem to fail to deal with despite often being closer to the ball. The attackers, in spite of whether they are actually any better, faster or stronger than my defenders always seem to be able to hold off my defenders. I copped 4 goals in the exact same way in my 1st game in this way to lose 4-2 (of course, i had the customary 60% possession and 18 shots to their 5). Immediately started adjusting defensive line tactics but all to no avail as the purple arrows just seem to reduce my defenders to fecking stone henge boulders.

I am just getting bored of this game now. Call it AI cheating, scripting or whatever but the game has such glaringly obvious cumbersome faults its becoming a yawn to play it. You see the same things happening over and over again - through balls you deal with, fouls not given when you have been kicked up in the air, fouls given to the AI when you have got the ball, stupid clipping issues that allow the AI to score, blah, blah, blah...It really detracts from what are some of the finer points such as player ID as it just gets lost in the all of the more glaringly obvious defects.

Fuck me MLO is hard this year.
Sorry I haven't got time to commit to a league. (Players of a certain type will know whom I'm referring to). I'm struggling to balance the books and buy new players.
It's a real slog on zero assists, but ultimately rewarding at the same time.
Totally addicted.

There's a definite difference especially on the lighting and for some reason it does not seem as heavily pixelated as before, which is really wierd as you see it immediately. The pitch seems a softer brighter shade.

Played online and noticed that lastnight.

Well, that settles it then... will stay with 1.00. Since I'm using Dr.Hany's pitch-texture-pack, I'm not in urgent need for a nightgame-looks-improvement.

I always play exhibitions, using same conditions all the time, same stadiums, ball, difficulty, green arrows for both teams..I can definitely notice changes in 1.02.

@henry's hand, I would advice you to try it for yourself and see what you prefer

I thought I could, but I have gone from 1.00 to 1.02.i never played 1.01 that much as I switched back. My first reaction was that 1.02 was better than 1.01, but the longer I played it I became unsure.

The night match improvement is a big deal for me, but I have just bought it for the pc so I can pick times of day using jenkey's tool

Personally I've noticed the AI "thinks" differently, better refereeing, better collisions and there is a change in animations, I can feel it when dribbling with the ball, perhaps subtle but it's there. If you're on pc change Texture Filtering to High Quality on your graphics card CP if you haven't done it already, makes a big difference in how things look.

See, this just underlines the problem with PES these days. The constant tinkering by Konami and releasing of patches, which means the patch and option file makers have to continually adjust their work to be compatible with latest update, and the fans have to keep downloading and re-applying data.

Part of me yearns for the old days before patches and updates. The whole process of patching PES is so complicated now.

Well I've learned my lesson from last year's game and I haven't started editing my option file until around February when things will have settled in terms of patches/roster updates. I too preferred the old way of no updates but it seems things don't work like this in the gaming world anymore, it takes a while to have a "finished" product.

I nearly lost the plot with this last year. I edit every player to get the game playing as realistic as possible and every time I was nearly happy with it they would change it.

such a strange, frustrating, exhilarating game. Man U is at Sunderland and the game gets that weird feeling that you're not in control of everything. One pinball bouncing ball and its 1-0. Well that's not so bad. And then one of those Suuuuuupertalk goals with otherworldly physics and its 2-0. I don't feel totally in control of my players but I claw one back 2-1. What, maybe 45 seconds later dribble pass dribble shoot 3-1. Sweet lord. 18 minutes left, I throw on Van Persie on blue arrow and replace Anderson with Scholes. Van Persie has 7 touches 4 passes 2 shots 2 goals (87, 90+) and we take the point like thieves in the night. When I put Van Persie on, the game just opened up and I could do what I wanted. it was both an excruciating and thrilling game. there is an evil genius at the heart of this game and he may not be a genius.

Recently I had a strange occuring: I wanted to shoot but the CPU-defender-opponent got to the ball a second earlier and shot/passed the ball to his own goalkeeper who jumped and grabbed the ball with both hands... referee said nothing!

Well, for me patch 1.02 has added a little more life and balance to proceedings. I'm not saying there are massive changes deliberately coded in or anything, just that the matches I have played since the patch have been amongst the best I have played in this years PES. If others wish to insist nothing has changed for them, then you won't find me trying to correct them as Konami never laid out any specifics of what would change gameplay-wise if anything would at all. However, at the same time I don't need folk telling me that nothing has changed, it is all placebo and I am imagining it etc. and so on as what is happening is happening, and that is that I am enjoying the game more than I ever have.

My last 7 games on Top Player have ended with me no more than shading possession and there being more football played by the COM, and it ain't me doing anything other than just being organised at the back and the COM AI readjusting to that. It still plays and instinctively direct game, but what I find now is that defending actually works with regards to the COM slowing it's game down and playing more lateral and backwards passes if I defend solidly. Before the patch I felt the COM would just try and steamroller through you regardless of how well organised you were and that is what started to frustrate me hugely after intense sessions of play.

Agree with chimps regards night time matches - look sharper and I can't say if it is the turf fix or they have boosted contrast levels or whatever. Again, what is happening is happening and I am playing more night matches and not having that sensation that the game plays massively better in daytime as I felt was the case before. Still work to be done there and in a number of of areas but so far so good since patch for me. Maybe I am just getting better but regardless, the game is playing well and that is all I want from any game.

Played the most ridiculous game ever earlier, I lost 9-2 against Lyon in the Europa League as Levante.... the previous game I played I won 5-1 in the league against Deportivo La Coruna with Martins scoring a hat-trick and what is his condition arrow for the Europa League game? yep, purple! FFS!

Also, the game was just a joke, at least 3 of their goals they scored I should have been given a free-kick just before, but no... and there were so many lucky ricochets that landed at Lyon players, ahhhhh man, moments like this make me fucking hate this game, it didnt feel like a fair thrashing.....

This was on Superstar difficulty btw, I played 7 games prior to that 9-2 beating, and I never got that kind of bullshit before, its almost as if the CPU was like "oh you won your previous game 5-1 huh? HAVE SOME OF THIS!"

I don't think the game can play that much better on the current engine. At times it has you on the edge of your seat but then you also see some things that aren't so great but you have to accept unfortunately. hopefully those things are entirely rectified by PES 2014. Don't want to see incremental changes. Has to be wholesale improvements, with a view to refining them in future iterations.

Curdstar - do you know anything about the progress of the new London studio or what timetables Konami are working to for PES 2014?

For what it's worth, I started a ML campaign with Atletico. After 2 or 3 games I had a frustrating experience. Played the FIFA demo and after 2 or 3 minutes knew exactly why I didn't buy it this year. Dropped the level on PES to Regular and have been having a blast on ML. Possession stats are usually in my favour at at a reasonable figure. On FIFA's legendary I was hitting 60% or more. I don't think those stats are the be all and end all anyway.

Noticed that I can skip away from players more naturally down the flanks but not all crosses result in shots on goal. Also noticed a lot less of the stumble animation. It's not just a walk in the park though. If I turn the ball over stupidly the AI will still punish me. The AI keepers can still keep out most of the shots you hit at them too.

It's not as easy as I thought it would be thankfully. It seems to allow you more chances to get into the forward third of the field - but not necessarily score, which is good. Shots on target and goals scored have been realistic too and if you cover the gaps well, the AI does still knock it around. The main thing I hate to see (and this is regardless of the level you play) is the aimless hoofed long ball the AI does under pressure....or not even under pressure sometimes.

All in all though, much fairer game on Regular for me. And I've had a mixed bag of results. And I don't think I'm a shocking player either so don't discount me on that :P

So, let me get this straight. Konami introduce the boot stats thing. With very minor exceptions, virtually everyone across the board slates this inclusion and state they hate it. Konami take on board this feedback and subsequently patch the game so that you are awarded MORE boots than before, thus making the feature that everyone hated more noticeable than before? Proof if anything that those Konami feedback forms are a waste of space.

Also, it's sad to hear the form arrow issue hadn't been patched. I buy this game each time so I can play ML, but this time I abandoned my ML in PES2013 because the form arrow issue got out of hand. It set out to ruin my game by making over half of my starting eleven have purple arrows every single week despite the fact that they were improving through training and even when I won matches. My striker scored four in one game once, next week he was on purple. I remember signing a better coach with a better form rating and yet my players' form got worse. It kept targeting both my keepers despite them having high form ratings, meaning I'd go into a match knowing the CPU would score from almost every shot on target.

I don't get this idea either that you can improve a player's stats via training yet he'll then be on a purple arrow. If a player improves his ability via training then that most likely means he's trained well and will be on good form, but not in Konami's eyes clearly.

Like some on here I've now all but abandoned the game, I've barely touched it in weeks, mainly because I only like to play a proper career on ML. The mode, this time around, is an absolute shambles.
